Never a Dull Moment
With the weather as nice as it had been lately, Benji had made the suggestion to move their weekly study session to the grounds instead of the library. Starting to feel more than a little cooped up with the constant stream of dueling practice and classes, Lettie was more than ready to actually be able to spend a Saturday outdoors, enjoying the delightful contrast of cool breeze and warm sun that autumn brought with it.
Lettie was first to arrive, as usual, and began to bring out her History of Magic textbook. However determined Lettie was to get top marks in all classes, it was undeniable that History of Magic was the one class that could nearly bore her to tears. All that was really involved was memorizing dates and events, which was not really the most engaging thing in the world by any standards. She always made sure she did well in it, but having Benji there to break up some of the more dull points was more than helpful.
For this week, they had been asked to write an essay on how witch burning had effected the standards of the Statute of Secrecy in the late 17th Century. Figuring that Benji would arrive shortly enough, Lettie drew out her quill and parchment to start her writing. The sooner she got this done, the sooner she could go do something else, like practice her dueling form or work on a few of the charms they had learned that week.

Never a Dull Moment
Benji rushed down to the grounds to meet with Lettie. He had asked to move their usual location for their weekly study time from the Library to the grounds and did not plan for it taking more time to get there. He had hoped she wasn’t waiting for too long. Benji arrived, half out of breath from rushing to get there and saw that she had taken out her quill and was writing, no doubt something for History of Magic.
“Close your book and put down the quill!” Benji demanded with a half convincing grin. Realizing that he may have just startled his friend, he decided to elaborate on his request further, but this time with less demand and volume in his voice. “Okay – put down your book. I know you really want to do well in History of Magic, but we can do that later. In potions earlier this week, I heard a group of kids talking about how there is a haunted room at Hogwarts! The abandoned bathroom on the second floor. They were saying that no one has went in there in years and that when people even go within 100 feet of it, they hear screaming, crying, and all kinds of creepy noises! We should go check it out, whatd’ya say?”.

Never a Dull Moment
Lettie nearly dropped her quill out of shock at the abrupt arrival of her friend, fearing, from the way he panted and the wild look in his eye that he had some sort of horrible news that someone had been in an accident.
Before she could ask what was wrong, he started spewing something about a rumor of a haunted room. Lettie couldn't help but roll her eyes and let out a small groan. "Really, you sprinted all the way here like a lunatic just to tell me about some old cautionary tale? Honestly, the kids in potions were probably just messing around. You know most of our class is missing half a brain anyways."
Benji looked as if he had sprinted there, which she supposed was not surprising. She had been friends with Benji for long enough to know that when he was excited about something, he got a particularly strong sort of tunnel vision that not even Merlin himself would be able to shake. It was her primary mission to shake him out of this one, though, because there was no way she was going to give up a perfectly good day of studying just to go on a wild goose chase.
Lettie motioned to the space on the bench next to her. "Here, sit," she ordered. "We have work to do. I highly doubt the Professor will be understanding if we don't get our work done due to an allegedly haunted toilet," she scoffed.

Never a Dull Moment
“Are you serious?” Benji asked rhetorically. He watched as Lettie settled herself back into her writing after motioning him to join her on the bench. “I think the Professor would be more worried that you don’t want to find out about the legend of the allegedly haunted toilet. The class is called History of Magic…and this could very well be history in the making! Who knows what could be there, or who! We’ve seen some of the ghosts hanging about the castle, what if this room is haunted by a famous witch or wizard and no one knows because everyone is too afraid to go look?”.
Sensing that he was not getting through to Lettie this way, he knew he might need to resort to something more drastic. Benji reached into his robe and pulled out a worn looking white card that said “Adventure Pact” in colorful writing. This card is something that each of them carried with them at almost all times. When they were younger, there were some activities and adventures that one would want to do, and the other had absolutely no interest in. However, they both agreed that they would not want to do these things alone and that teaming up would be better, even if one person didn’t really want to. For years, Lettie and Benjie have used this to drag the other to unwanted activities which sometimes resulted in some of their most fun times together.
Benji pulled out the card and said, “I’m calling Adventure pact on this one” and offered her the card. “I have two saved up from this past summer alone”. After dropping the card on her book, he closed the book and offered her his hand.

Never a Dull Moment
Normally, Lettie would describe Benji's determination as sort of endearing, but today she had little patience for it. Surely, if the ghost was someone famous, someone would have already found out about it years ago and placed it in History of Magic textbooks for them to read anyways.
Before Lettie could start to formulate a retort, her eyes shot open as Benji mentioned that everyone was just too afraid to go look. She immediately set down her quill and parchment and shot him a glare with her arms crossed in front of her. "You think I'm afraid?! Don't be daft -" but it was too late. Benji had already taken out the trump card.
Lettie continued to shoot glaring looks at her friend, as she unwillingly started picking up her things and placing them back into her bag. She hated it when he used the adventure cards against her. As she took Benji's hand and stood up, she grumbled, "That's a low blow, you know." He knew that she had no choice but to respect the sacredness of the Adventure Card. She turned a stern look at her friend and said, "After we investigate and prove the theory wrong, we do nothing else until our History of Magic essays are finished. Got it?!"
The girl took one last look at the trees rustling in the wind before sighing and directing her gaze back to the castle. She really had been looking forward to getting some fresh air, and she wasn't thrilled to be cutting her time outside short. Nevertheless, they made their way back through the entrance hall, and started up the staircase to the second floor. "So what are you expecting to find in here, exactly?" Lettie raised an eyebrow at her friend. "What if it's a boggart that's been creating all the noise, or a banshee? We haven't learned the proper spells to take care of those yet, you know."
