It's been more than a month since Haley and Charles saw each other, and for Haley it felt like half an eternity. It was a strange feeling, walking down the hallways, imagining how she had walked down the hallway just a week ago with the tall blond at her side. How he leaned against the wall in his black leather jacket, his half-smirk on his lips and completely disinterested in the students who walked past him. Charles was a refreshing change of pace at the time, and even though neither of them probably expected it at first, it had turned into a good friendship.

And while the two friends had actually managed to keep in touch via owls, which was no mean feat over a month, they had agreed to meet up during the vacations. She was just making her way through the crowded streets of Diagon Alley, squeezing through all the people. Everyone was doing their last minute Christmas shopping and maybe it wasn't the smartest idea to meet here on Dec. 23th. But that was the way it was now and as Haley made her way through the crowd, she kept an eye out for a familiar black leather jacket.

She had arrived at the meeting place, but had not yet caught sight of Charles. To her relief, there was less hustle and bustle here, as most were just outside the stores, and while it was still more crowded than usual here, at least you didn't have to squeeze through, but could walk along the path normally. Haley placed herself in a visible spot and leaned against the outside wall of the building she had stopped in front of. She puts her hands into her jacket pocket and there in her right pocket she felt the small box she had with her, reminding herself not to forget to give it to Charles.

The longer she stood there, the more she noticed the cool wind blowing through her hair in regular puffs. Her eyes wandered to the watch on her wrist, it was a typical Muggle watch that her father had given her for her last birthday. The cold enveloped her and slowly she began to shiver, hoping that Charles would show up soon, but it was her own fault, because as so often, she had been there way too early.

December 23rd. Nearly Christmas. Charles haven't unpacked his bags since arriving back at the manor, having planned to spend Christmas with Cassie then the rest of break with Xeno. His boyfriend. The blonde smiled at the thought of the two as he pulled on a brown jacket. His clothes are differnt than what he normally wears but the blonde thought it looked nice especially for this meet up with Haley Rose. A friend of his.

Leaving his room, the blonde walked through the endless hall of the manor. Taking a turn then going down thr stairs to the first floor where he took a left thrn a right turn. Walking down a hall into a spacious living room area. The fourteen year old looked out at the ones present in the room. His father, mother, and grandfather. Charles still haven't came out to his family that he is gay.

The blonde cleared his throat a little than spoke"Father, I have a question for you?" Charles watched the man fold up the paper he was resding and place it to the side. Aaron gave a curt not to his youngest son letting him know that he can speak. Chadles nodded to the action as he spoke"Could I go to diagon alley today to meet a friend?" His words drew the attention of his grandfather who looled up at the lad as well as Aaron spoke"This friend of yours are they pureblood?"

Charles felt his stomach clench and squeezed his hands into fists behind his back. The blonde wanted to shout that it didn't matter but knew his family views about blood status as he bit the inside of his cheek and nodded. His father nodded once, looked over toward his grandfather as he spoke"Charles doesn't have any reason to linger around today, does he?" Charles rested his gaze on his grandfather, the man who sent shivers down his spine as he watched him speak" I don't believe he does, hopefully he won't disgrace the family while out and about." Charles wished that he never asked their permission now and just left as hia gaze found his man who spoke"go on but be back before your curfew."

Charles nodded to his father then turned on his heel and left the room. Nearly jogging up stairs and though halls to a room lined with fireplaces. The blonde stepped into the green flames then found himself in diagon alley.

Charles walked through the busy streets, eyes peeled for the red head. Hands in hia pocket as he towered over majority. Heads turning in every which way untol he saw a speck of red and followed it.

Smiling at the sight of Haley. Charles approached, nodding a little toward her as he spoke"Hey."

Charles wasn't long in coming and as soon as Haley caught sight of him a smile crept onto her lips. "My favourite Durmstrang." the redhead beamed, pushing herself off the wall to meet Charles a little way and take him into a hug. She knew she had missed the tall blond boy, but only now did she realise how much. She released the hug, grabbed her hands on either side of his shoulders and grinned broadly at him "Look at you. Where did your leather jacket go?" Haley joked, giving him a light punch on the shoulder.

As soon as the two were done greeting each other, Haley would twist her arm with Charles' and pull him along with her so the two could walk comfortably through the streets of Diagon Alley. After a few yards, she released her grip and tucked her hands into her pockets to protect them from the cold. She tried to ignore all the people frantically doing the last of their shopping and looked to Charles with a familiar admonishing look. "So, your departure. Simon and you." She looked at him with a raised eyebrow and shook her head with a smirk. "I can't believe you acted like that." She added, but laughed as she did so. She knew that Charles had actually expected a report by letter on how Simon reacted, but it was Simon and there was no reaction and therefore nothing to report.

Since Charles and Haley had continuous contact through Owls, there was no need to ask about how things were going at Durmstrang. She was sure she knew about the things Charles wanted to share and she also knew that Charles was not having an easy time of it and so she did not want to stir up the subject. Not today, not now. "How are the holidays? How is it with your family?" she asked cautiously though, hoping that it was at least bearable. Ideally she would like to invite him over, meanwhile she lived in a huge house with her parents, there would be plenty of room for Charles there. They could spend some time together before school started again and surely her parents would be happy to meet and welcome the big boy from Durmstrang. It wouldn't be the first time and if you've ever been to the Rose's home, you knew where Haley got her big heart from. A big heart with a dark side that she shared with Charles.

Charles nodded toward her words, a smile on his face as he replied"if it isn't my favorite hogwartsian," a slight bending over as he returned the girl's hug with a half one. The phycial touch was a bit unexpected but instesd of usually feeling awkward, the blonde felt comfort as they departed from the hug. Charles heard her words about the leather jacket, felt her shoulder punch. Slightly laughing, the blonde ruffled Haley's hair as he spoke"saving the leather for school." A smilple action as he then slipped his hands into his pockets.

Charles felt Haley grab his arm then pull him along, he allowed her to. Following her along, falling into step with her along the cobblestone pathway. Feelimg Haley release her grip then heard her words, he nodded at the mention of her boyfriend. Simon. The on how he acted. The blonde wasn't phased as he spoke"so it wasn't like a punch him," smiling as he cuaght Haley's eyes. Still walking occasionally moving to avoid the clusters of people doing their last minute holiday shopping.

Charles walked, eyee gazing from shop window to shop window. The glistening of the light reflecting on it, the neatly piled pearly white snow surrounding them. The fau seemed perfect. Charles averted his eyes. Going back to lookong forward as he heard Haley's question, the blonde trusted her. Trust was a large thing with the blonde, having only given a few it but he didn't exactly see her a friend. More like a young sibling. Glancing toward her, he spoke"fine, barley see mt family with visiting others which is cool," the blonde nodded toward the girl as his eyes flickered on her features. Charles remebered what she have told him about her own family as he spoke"and you? How are your holidays and youe family?" Charles felt the warmth emit from the girl, choosing to stand cloae than away. Eyes remained on Haley. Strange, the blonde viewed Drew, Cassie, and a few others as his friends. Maybe even closer than that. However, with Haley Rose. He saw her as something else. Someone thay need help, protection. Simlair to a sibling, a younger one that looked to learn about the dark side.

Favorite Hogwartsian - Haley giggled to herself, shaking her head. "Oh it was better that you didn't punch him!" she continued laughing, "I've told you before, don't underestimate me." She winked at the tall blonde beside her. Of course, she would never assume that it would actually come to Charles hitting anyone Haley liked, especially not her boyfriend. At least she hoped Charles liked her enough that he wouldn't. But just the same, she knew she'd never stand a chance against Charles, and the thought of her fighting him brought to mind the image of him easily lifting her up and putting her on her side. Again she grinned softly to herself at the image.

"Sounds good to me." Nodded Haley, not sure if he was really being honest, but she wouldn't push him to tell something he didn't want to tell. "Stressful. The first few days I've been trying to see as many old friends as I can, besides I have to pack my suitcase and my parents are in total gift stress as we're having Christmas at my aunt's, uncle's and all my cousins this year." Haley couldn't wait to finally see her cousins again, especially Ian. She loved that boy, not in a romantic way, but like a big brother. "It's been a while since I've seen all the boys and I'm really looking forward to spending the holidays with them." The last time she had seen them all was when Ian got into a fight - he and Charles were probably similar in some ways - and was subsequently in hospital. It was a difficult time because the trigger was something the other boy had said about Haley. Later Ian blurted out that Haley was a Parsel, which had again caused drama in their lives and since then they had only been in contact through letters.

It was at that moment that she realised all the things Ian didn't know about her life. The parseltongue, which she now had under control, the lies, the secret trips to her grandfather, what her grandfather had done to her. Oh dear, these were going to be long nights. She could only hope that Ian wouldn't reveal the secrets to anyone again this time, the worst that could happen would be if Haley's parents found out that she had been visiting alone with a man who was actually a stranger and claimed to be her grandfather. Well, he really was her grandfather but he was anything but the right company for Haley.

"Anyway, I'm afraid I don't have too much time today. As soon as my mum buys the last of the presents we have to get back home, wrap everything up and then we'll be on our way." As much as Haley was looking forward to seeing her family, however, she also wanted to spend time with Charles and so she hoped her mother took an extra long time to find the last present. "That reminds me," she spoke, rummaging for something in her bag. "This is for you." Haley held out a small box to Charles. Of course she had a Christmas present for him, as she did for all her friends who were especially close to her. Inside the small black box was a plain black bracelet, with "With you on the dark side" engraved in cursive on the downside.

Charles nodded toward the red heads words, a smile creased his lips as he walked. Hands in his pockets. The air crisp and filled with the smells of sweets and cinnamon. Charles pushed backs the groups of last minute holiday shoppers, eyes flickering between Haley and ahead of them.

Charles listened to Haley's words. Her holiday plans and stress. The blonde smiled a little, it always interest him to hear others since his well he would say his own are dull. The same every year, family and friends come over Christmas night for dinner and then a gift exchange. Nothing festive or upbeat. Although that year, the blonde is looking forward to spend the holidays with a few friends instead of his family.

Nodding toward Haley as he spoke"sounds chaotic, wirte if anything occurs," the blonde wasn't sure how long he was going to be out. Planning to spend the whole day away from his family as he walked shoulder to shoulder with Haley Rose. Charles imagined they had the whole day till her heard the girl's words, only till the shopping was finished.

Disappointed, Charles nodded as he brushed hia shoulder aginest Haley's side and spoke"then we make the best with the time we have," a smile creased his lips as he noticed a stand selling sweeten walnuts. His eyes flickered from the stall to Haley, coming to a halt as he took the gift from the girl. Not expecting much that year to began with he spoke" thank you." Opening the box, Charles saw the bracelet.

Taking it out, Charles held it in his hands. Turning it over to read the words till he slipped it onto his right hand. Pocketing the box, Charles replaced it with a box of his own as he held it out for Haley and spoke"and this is for you, my dear," a smile. Charles got gifts for a select few, not all his friends but a few of them. Four orhers plus Haley. Charles smiled toward the girl sranding still waiting for her to open the gift if she chooses to.

It was that atmosphere that always formed around the two of them when they were together that Haley loved so much. It was so light-hearted, so warm but not cheesy and honest. It was just easy with Charles. Even when she was just walking the crowded streets with him, it was a nice meeting. Without the need for them to do anything special. Those were times when she wished the hours would pass more slowly, but they were exactly the moments when time was running. And so she agreed with Charles, smiling, "We make the best with the time we have."

If she had the chance, she would just take Charles with her. With four boys in a house, surely it didn't matter if there was one more. And Ian and Charles would certainly get on well. She imagined the two of them swapping stories about any fights, talking about keeping an eye on Simon or just trying to get on his nerves out for fun. The longer she thought about it, the more uncertain she became whether this encounter would end well for her in the end. In a funny way, of course, but rather funny for the two boys. But she also knew that wasn't possible and so she quickly put the fantasy out of her mind before she got too attached to this wishful thinking.

Haley watched Charles anxiously as he unwrapped the present. It was only something small but she hoped he would see the meaning behind it and most importantly that he liked it. It was hard to read him. It always had been since she knew him and in the end she just hoped the gift wasn't a complete failure. But it looked good on him and she was pleased that he had put it on straight away. Charles was one of exactly three people in her circle of friends to receive a Christmas present this year. Simon, Cosmo and Charles. It was almost crazy how the two of them had built this friendship in just a few months, but Haley couldn't imagine it without him.

Surprised, she looked at Charles as he held out a box to her as well. "W-What?" she asked confused, she just hadn't expected that at that moment and for a moment she was at a loss for words. "Oh, thank you Charles!" she beamed, taking the gift and wondering what it was.

Charles nodded toward Haley's words. She mentioned being stress and figured this short time that they shared together could be the chance to helo her relax and come to ease with herself. While also coming closer to the dark side without her realizing it as he nodded toward the redhead, listening and smiling. Hs smile small but shown his emotion, those of enjoyment and compassion but also of mischief and rebellion. Charles would be the type of boy thay you wouldn't want your kid to hnag out with and yet something about Haley told him to help her, to protect her even. Uh, strange.

Charles liked the gift, he isn't used to get many but this one touched him. Not a fancy gift or one brought because of a hobby. This one has thought and heart embedded within, Charles smiled at the bracelet now on his wrist. Dropping the wrappings to the sude as they walked.

Charles turned, looking toward Haley as she opened the gift. Listening and watching her reaction, the blonde wasn't quite sure what to her. Haley wasn't the typical female he usually shops for and she isn't Cassie or one of his male mates either. It was actually a muggle store where the blonde found the necklace, a muggle antique shop had the moon necklace and Charles added a gem to it from his mother's collections.

"It isn't much but I thought a star such as yourself only deserves the moon," Charles replied wirh a small smile. His words were genuine not the classic flirting which he does with others. The blonde's eyes flickered toward the vendor selling nuts. A idea formed in the mind of the teenage as he spoke"how has your dark side training been? Still want to join the dark side?" A fun activity disgussed to bring the girl closer to the dark side.

Haley carefully opened the gift from Charles and looked from the necklace with an O shaped mouth to Charles and back to the necklace. "Wow Ch-" she carefully took the necklace out of the box, "Charles, it's beautiful." She was at a loss for words, she hadn't expected to receive such a gift. At first sight she had fallen in love with the necklace. Charming as Charles was, the appropriate remark came and Haley giggled softly as she looked at him with her typical "Oh come on you" look. She held the necklace between her two hands and undid the clasp before turning around, "Would you?" she asked Charles, waiting for him to close the necklace for her.

One last time she now looked at the moon that now hung around her neck and smiled happily to herself, "Thanks Luv." She said to Charles and would have liked to give him another hug or a kiss on the cheek, but she didn't want to cross any line and so she held back.

"Nothing you don't know." She replied honestly to his answer. It wasn't like she was running around Hogwarts telling everyone about her current plan of getting to know the dark side, or about the challenges between her and Charles. That was something that was between the two of them, something very personal and there was no one she would have wanted to share that with in any way. "But yes, still wanting to join the dark side. Your side." At the last sentence she winked at Charles, not only he could let the flirty manner hang out but also with it there was a certain kind of honesty behind that statement.

She had taken Charles to her heart and felt a close bond with the boy. In a way she didn't know. It wasn't like with Simon, apart from that Charles was gay and there would be no room open for such a relationship, although she might even lose her heart to him, but that option wasn't there. It wasn't like with Ian either, but it was more similar. She found it hard to put into words, but what she did know was that she trusted him, wanted to protect him and knew he would protect her.

The blonde looked away at her words, usually not one for the following words or gushing about a gift. Although to get to a gift for someone is a rarity, the blonde only got gift for five people that year and ine of them being his cousin. The teen knew the point of giving something, after all he was raised in a pureblood family but never minded the act.

Nodding as he took the necklace, placing it on Haley's neck then clicling the casp together. Feeling the bracelet, a smile on his lips. A part of him felt warm, running through as he saw that someone saw him. Cared for him. A friend. The teen thought for a moment before nodding toward Haley wanting to skip over the conversation not liking this feeling of vulnerability.

Half listening, nodding toward Haley's words as he caught sight of the vender selli g the sweeten nuts. A small mischievous yet wicked gint entered his eyes as he looked toward Haley, a sense cane over him that perhaps he shouldn't. Stop before something became out of hand. Wanting to protect the girl and not put her in danger. Charles looked over at Haley as he spoke"good, now don't look back and keeping running," the blonde reached out grabbing Haley's arm and pulling her toward the vender.

Letting go of Haley, Charles reached for two bags of sweeten nuts. Snatching them form the vender about to give to a paying costumer, once he had the two bags in hand the blonde yelled over toward Haley.

"Run!"

Pushing himself through the group as the blonde ran, taking large strides and kicking up dust cluchting two bags of nuts. Smiling a little, laughing a little as he ran with a vender chasing them shouting for the nuts and calling them menacing children among other, more colorful names.

Catching sight of a alley way, the teen looked back for Haley as he spoke"in there," sliding to a halt and rolling into the alley way. The blonde slammed his back aginest the wall, a tight space for the two leaving only a few inches between them as the blonde breathed heavily. Sweat dripping down a little from his forehead.

When the vender ran past, Charles laughed not fully believing that they did the following as he offered a bag for Haley.
