An Old Fear
Coden hurried up the spiral staircase leading to the owlery, wanting to get there before Reine. He'd seen owls before, but never used as mailmen. But he did know how scared of birds Reine was, and he didn't want her to be up here alone.
Panting slightly, he looked around the open-windowed room, glad for the cool air. He looked around the circular room, awed by all the owls. Small owls, large owls, spotted owls, snowy owls. You name it, they're here. He shrugged off his robe, rolling up the sleeves of the white shirt he wore underneath. He draped the robe over the railing lining the stairs, taking a moment to inspect the yellow trimming to it.
Hufflepuff. Coden didn't know how he felt about being sorted into Hufflepuff, Reine had never told him about Hufflepuff or Slytherin, she only gushed Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. He knew her grandmother had been in Ravenclaw, and now she was in Gryffindor. Coden hoped that wouldn't limit their friendship at all, he would never admit she was right, but he wasn't very good at making friends.
He walked over to a small spotted owl and started stroking its feathers, bending over slightly so he could see out the small window. He looked out at the darkening sky, briefly admiring its beauty. Looking down, though, he realized how high he was an quickly drew back from the window, the height making his head spin. He brought his hand down from the spotted owl and stepped backwards, accidently knocking over the person who'd been standing behind him.
Whipping around, Coden grabbed the slim and small hand of his good friend, Reine, keeping her from falling onto the stone floor of the owlery.

An Old Fear
Reine found herself running a little late for her meeting with Coden, she hadn't intended to, she certainly never liked keeping her friends waiting, but today had been stressful for her. She had only discovered today that her house was reassigning dorms and she had been rushed to pack her things which she had already strewn about her old dorm.
She climbed the spiral staircase, trailing her hand along the metal railing. Above her, she could already hear the gentle cooing of the owls, making her shiver. Thinking about it now, she found it odd they had agreed to meet here, with Reine's fear of birds and Coden's fear of heights. She smiled to herself as she wondered how her and Coden ever got along in the first place, they were so different from each other. She was a bit ashamed of herself, whenever Coden disagreed with her, she usually tried to argue about it and say it was silly of him to think differently than her.
Reine remembered the time her grandmother had taken to them to a fair that had opened near them. Coden, not wanting to be left behind, only confessed his fear of heights to them when they were at the top of the ferris wheel. He had shrunk down in his seat, squeezing his eyes shut and breathing heavily.
She came back to the present when she reached the top of the stairs and in the large circular room. She quickly spotted Coden over by a small owl that even she, with her fear of them, had to admit was a bit cute. He was bent over, his tall form peering out the window in front of him. He'd always made fun of her for being so short, but she could always counter with his abnormal height, in the end they had to agree to disagree.
Making her way over to Coden, she tried to think of something to say to him. For it had been awhile since they'd seen each other. But before she could say anything, Coden abruptly stepped back, knocking her over. She tried to catch herself before she hit the floor, but he came to her rescue gripping her hand tightly.
Letting out a sigh of relief, she allowed him to pull her up straight to face him. Smiling she said, "Well, I've always said I know how to make an entrance."

An Old Fear
When he'd pulled Reine up straight, he let her hand slip from his, bringing his down to hang at his side. "Well, I've always said I know how to make an entrance." She said with her light French accent, a smile tugging at her lips. Coden let out a breathe of air he hadn't realized he'd been holding, he was probably just nervous about seeing Reine after so long. Even with the people he was closest to, he still got a little nervous and fidgety talking to people.
He ran a hand through his dark brown hair saying, "You can go ahead and keep thinking that, but one of these days you're going to get yourself killed." He frowned, stepping closer to the middle of the room and leaning against the metal railing for the stairs.
Knowing what she would bring up, he beat her to it saying abruptly and defensively "I have made a few friends, there's even a pillow fight in the common room that I'm taking part in, so you don't have to always worry about me." Coden looked down, feeling his face heat up after the outburst.
"Sorry," He muttered, still looking down as he rubbed his neck embarrassedly, "I just don't want you acting like I can't make friends on my own." He glanced up, looking for her answer.
