Gryffindor v Slytherin Broom Race Jan 2022

Violet kicked the ground, she was soon flying above the ground, racing. Immediately, the broom race was becoming difficult, however Violet was proud to see that she was the only one to make it through an area full of trees without even a scratch. The slytherin brunette took this as a chance to try and shoot a spell at an opponent, however she missed. ''Dammit'' Violet cursed under her breath, but continued following the race.

Without even realizing it had all started, Della was flying through the air, her body responding to the race before her brain could. She kept close to her teammates. So far their strategy was to move quickly and get an early lead—it was a race after all. Levi was already pulling ahead and Della kept her eyes on his red figure, pushing her broom to go faster. She could see Nicholas and Xailah in her periphery.

Like they had expected, the Slytherins went for the fifth-year lion, but Hugh was there. Della sighed a breath of relief and concentrated on the trees ahead. It was rough, branches tearing at her robes, covering her in tiny scratches, but it was nothing they hadn't prepared for in practice.

As soon as the woods thinned and she could see a clearing, she started to smell the bundimun's rot. Bracing herself, she pushed through, still following Levi, still in line with Nicholas and Xailah. The acid hurt, more so if it hit one of the scratches she had obtained in the woods. But Della kept her eyes trained on Levi, and miraculously she was through before the burning sensation became too hard to manage.

A roar erupted from their captain. Della, being the more quiet type, smiled and laughed in return. It was a great day for flying—and hopefully, it would stay that way.

Scarlet was pretty pleased with how the race had started for her, she pushed ahead of a few of the other racers and took up a place in the middle of the group. Getting through the woods was no fun, constantly getting a face full of branches in the face, and there was to be no relief from the pain as she fly straight into the path of some bundimum after emerging from the woods. "Oww," she said to herself once clear of the bundimum, the pain from the obstacle sticking with her.

A certain urgency swarmed at the moment of kick-off, and in a flicker, Levi had propelled himself forward. The wind rocked through his hair, strands scattered messily over his eyes before blowing back and forth again with each slight swerve. Still, speed did little for sharp limbs grasping at your shadow, and occasionally nicking flesh. Enough so that the adrenaline rush could overflow his typical null core. Levi winced and his teeth clenched together, a loud grinding sounding in his ears just enough so that the whisper of a beating breeze became a dull hum.

Even once he’d thought it was finished, clutching the injured flesh where used to be a pristine princely façade, he’d failed again to evade the clutches of the wood. There was a second, just a beat, where a childish need for a blameless pallet washed over him, and he credited this to the anxiety brought on by his meeting with Mathias. However, such was beneath him, and again he’d wince and let the hurt rinse away the youth that bled through each thin layer. Once out of the woods (hardy har), this theory was proven wrong nevertheless, as the following obstacle proved just as challenging for someone at his pace and build. Levi pushed on, the occasional grunt of discomfort mixing in with the constant grinding and whistle.

The whole school is rolling fake dice. Trends change, rumours fly through new sky, but Thomas Lestrange was right there where everyone left him. Starting from unit 1, he would see the back side of both his teammates and the enemies. But he wouldn’t let himself be the butt of the joke, the last one to reach the finish line. With his shiny silver arrow, he flew in top speed to catch up or possibly beat the other. Wind in his hair, he was there, evading the tall and muscular trees like a professional racer as he caught up with Hugh Lowe and his fellow flying snakes, Wyatt and Violet. Even the radiating evil presence of Violet Carrington did not bother him even a little bit, he was still able to evade more trees even though the slope was treacherous, the path was dangerous. It seemed like a very different scenario, a bad one, fell upon the other three racers. There was this mysterious way about the tiny Slytherin, though she was small compared to the part giant, she was terrifying enough to make Hugh fly and hug one of the trees, probably looking for some shelter. Though, he did just fine on the second and third attempt. Wyatt Starkey, the third year Slytherin was struggling enough to dodge the challenges, and the fact that the queen of eyerolls was flying near him, it was too distracting for him to fly in bravery. Being so terrifying doesn’t always mean to be fearless. The snake team apparently has two scary people, the other one was Scarlet Salvatore who was in one unit after, just made Violet feel some chill down her spine, causing her to give the tree an aggressive kiss. Bundimun, a very adorable green creature with yellow eyes who likes to spit acidic secretion. Out of the four racers, Hugh was able to notice the presence of this extremely cute beast whilst the others seemed to be way too focused on the race and not the surroundings. Unfortunately, none of them evaded the acidic liquid. It could rot building structures, imagine having it in contact with your skin. But don’t you worry, dear beautiful racers, just cast scourgify and you all good as new. At last, this pain wouldn’t be for evermore. Damages Hugh -> 50 (20% damage reduction) = 40/round for 5 rounds Wyatt -> 50/round for 5 rounds Violet -> 50/round for 5 rounds Hugh’s journey in the second round had to end, but he still has something under his sleeve. He would throw a branch at Scarlet like a cannonball, aiming to hurt her. This was no state of grace, and she didn’t see it coming. No body no crime, though, Scarlet might not let it up until the day she dies. Whilst unit 6 and 7 were free from danger, unit 8 was the time where they had to fight for their lives, again, with addition of some other racers. What does it feel like to grow up that beautiful? Nicholas McCowan, his hair fell into place like dominoes, though his accuracy was—meh. Perhaps he was thinking of the only girl who thinks he's a hot stuff. *aggressively points at the Nichotlas sign*. It was hard to believe that the Gryffindor captain bonked his body on the narrow passageway. Though, he was not the only one. The catwoman, Xailah Alptraum, along with Della Barfield, Scarlet Salvatore, Violet Carrington, and Levi Drakos all failed to get through the confined space. Vale, on the other hand, finally did great. This would be the place where both Violet and Wyatt had to end their round and let the other move on. Unit 8 Damages (Broom speed*10) Nicholas-> 50 Xailah-> 50 Della-> 50 Scarlet-> 50 Wyatt -> 50 Violet-> 50 Levi-> 60 Next challenge, still a narrow passageway, though, it didn’t seem to be as hard as the one before. Levi Drakos, the Gryffindor most charming smile apparently was the most non accurate of them all. Perhaps he needs to calm down, he’s flying too fast! It was the kind of embarrassment time could never mend, if it were anybody else, they would never walk the narrow passageway again. Then the distance between left and right was getting smaller, who would survive in unit 9? Not Nicholas, not Della, not the fearless Vale, and most importantly, not Levi. Third time's the charm, they said. Not for Levi because he failed again. Magnificently cursed, at this point it was nothing new, and more like a regular thing. If only the walls would fall to their knees because of his charm, he wouldn’t have to endure this painful reality. Levi Drakos, however, still wanted to fly further. Little did he know, it would lead him to his demise. X marks the spot when Levi fell apart. He was flying faster than the wind, passionate as sin, but ending so suddenly. The wind was too strong, stronger than the boy ever could be. And just like that, he was nowhere to be seen. Xailah thought she heard something a few ways behind- a sound similar to wood hitting something soft. She wasn't certain though; and at the speed she was going, it would have been too dangerous to take a glance. She needed to keep her eyes on what was ahead of her, so she could anticipate her actions. For a good few minutes there had been absolutely nothing, just clear, open ground. The spaciousness was too comfortable. Something was surely going to spring up soon- something small, and perhaps cramped- like a narrow tunnel with a beast inside- or maybe a passageway?

That was a hint. The narrow passageway was up next. Xailah only realized how small and uncomfortable it was, once she began moving through it. At a distance it was much harder to tell that it was a claustrophobe's nightmare. Were the walls getting smaller? The (dark?) space was navigated with some ease, for sight was not where Xailah would falter. Stalactites would not be the thing to hit her this time. Her steering was off, as she would later figure out when she rammed her shoulder into one of the walls. That was going to leave a mean bruise; but not as mean as some of the bruises that one of her other teammates would be receiving. Up ahead, she thought she saw Levi ricocheting off the walls, like a fleshy pinball. But she wasn't entirely sure.

The corridor was long, or maybe it just felt that way. Time did not exist in the tunnel. Time. Light. Weather. None of it was there; just the walls and the racers. The darkling girl on the Moontrimmer wondered how much longer the passage stretched on. Could it stretch forever of it so wished? No. All things had to end eventually, especially those made by man. The passage was simply lengthy- not forever. Just as Xailah reached the end of her intrusive thoughts, she and her racers reached the end of the tunnel. The Gryffindors shot out of the gaping arch, like spray of bullets leaving the barrel of a gun. All exited more or less still intact. That was always a good sign. Upon reaching the end of the trackway however; breaching back into the light and snow; Xailah quickly spied a problem, which caused her brows to furrow.

Drakos, nor his broom, were nowhere to be seen. Damnit. That wasn't a good sign. Xailah looked to the ground, hoping to see a moving patch of red amongst the pale sea of ice crystals. The small flurries blocked what could be seen- which wasn't really much to begin with. Maybe Levi managed to get farther ahead. That was the preferred possibility out of the two that could have happened. If he had fallen, well, hopefully he didn't die or anything; because he still needed to cross the finish line.

Della was still moving as fast as she could when she approached the narrow passageway. Levi disappeared into the passage's darkness. Xailah and Nicholas were still close by, but she could hear some Slytherins trailing them. Della was glad that they were in the lead so far, for more than the obvious reason—the first-year Slytherin made her uncomfortable, and for some reason, she got an even more terrible feeling from some of the older students. She was worried that it was going to affect her flying.

The first passage was incredibly narrow, as promised. She was knocked about, hitting the walls. That would leave some bruises. The passage opened up more and Della sailed through with ease. However, it suddenly tightened again and she nearly fell off her broom.

But then the darkness gave way to light, and she was out in the open again. A soft breeze moved through her silver hair. Sure it was pleasant now, but it was the precursor to the bigger obstacle up ahead. The older Gryffindor girl and their captain were still in the air near her—thank god, they made it, too. Della faced the wind, looking for Levi's figure, the marker she'd been using to push forward.

He wasn't there.

Snap a twig and throw it down the racing table, see where the dice hit. Only, to Hugh, a twig would be considered a sizeable branch for the others. The part-giant saw his mark get hit and considered it a mild success. Nicholas did say to do "whatever it takes", seemed like Captain Mop was getting his way, today. With no idea, what was going on ahead of him as time passed by. Hugh paid more attention to the road. Or rather the path? Circuit? The way.

Leaving his teammates' battles up to themselves, he figured he was doing a pretty okay job at making sure they'd have their fair chance. The other team had, as expected, targetted him at first sight. But people failed to see behind the large, intimidating figure with the hairy sides of his cheeks. Of course, he would be an obvious target, he literally was the biggest one out there. Now it was just a matter of making sure he'd get there alive. Who knew how long this game would last. The snakes were cunning, after all, their duelling team was gaining quite the rep as the years progressed. And spells were not out of the picture in this race.

His face winced as acid burned across his arms. Why was there always pain? It seemed to him wizards just liked seeing each other get hurt. Maybe it was some weird genetic kick they got out of it. Might explain all the evildoers through history though…

Tunnel vision, it turned out, was a detriment to one who was trying to actually fly through a tunnel. Nicholas’s gaze remained fixed forward, only the occasional twist of his head to review the relative positions of those flying near him breaking his concentration. Of course, such glances were almost entirely miscast, he could barely make out shapes in the dark, let alone place faces to bodies or review how anyone else was going with tackling the passage. Another racer could have hit their head and been rendered unconscious and he wouldn’t have been able to tell, such was the way of things. Still, his glances and lack of care for where exactly he was flying would prove more than enough to make his misjudgement of the tunnel inevitable. Scrapes and grazes covered the length of his exposed skin, and when combined with the stinging of the bundimum’s acid, the pain sung a symphony. Still, he managed to exit the tunnel in due course, brown hair fluttering in the wind. No doubt the sight of the Gryffindor captain disheveled and somewhat wounded would send a certain Ravenclaw’s heart aflutter. Not that he was thinking of her, and any assertion to the contrary would be met with a harsh rebuttal.

The bright light upon exit greeted the still grinning captain, the thrill of the race flooding him with euphoria in spite of his misadventures in the passageway. Such joy was only further compounded by the sight of Alptraum and Barfield in the same vicinity, and not a Slytherin in sight.

Of course, Drakos wasn’t visible either. That transformed Nicholas’s grin into a grimace. If he’d gone and gotten himself knocked out that would be terrible for their racing performance. Of course, he did suppose he should be worried for the other racer’s safety. But that was a secondary concern.

Instead, he shot another cursory glance over at the two lions he could see, confirmed the fact that they were still in fact mounted, and returned his thoughts to the race.
