She just said that if she told someone, they'd get it. Did that mean he would or did the girl just think that's what would happen? "You know, I would think they're pretty familiar with different hexes and jinxes and that sort of thing. We've got the duelling club and all and sometimes they make some crazy things go down..." he paused to think a moment on some of the things he had seen at the duelling matches. How some students could do some of those things to others was beyond him.

She asked what he did, like he did something to deserve being a dhampir and that made him feel a little uneasy. "Alison," he paused, not wanting her to just brush this off or switch to another topic. She desperately seemed to want to but she couldn't do that. "We really need to tell an adult. If you're going into that castle to get warm, then we can go in to get warm, but then we need to figure out who you're going to tell. You can't just let this go and continue."

And the way she seemed fearful on it all just told him it was probably worse than what it seemed to him as an outsider. This was too much for those so young to take on.

The girl's eyes sparkle, "Do you really think I can? Can I protect my little brother at the same time?" Simon nodded yes. This must be a dream, he thought. He would finally get out of that bad place. The girl couldn't help hugging the boy and could only say thank you.
When they reach the hospital wing, the door opens and Alison's wounds heal.
Alison's older sister walks in." For the love of MERLIN, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE. I HOPE YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE PUNISHED. MOM WILL HEAR THAT. AND I CAN'T PROTECT YOU THIS TIME. YOU ARE SHALLING OUR FAMILY."The girl couldn't stand it and said, "THAT IS THE WAY YOU PROTECT ME. IS IT JUST BEING WITH ME AND NOT SAYING ANYTHING AND CONNECTING THEM TO BLACK MY LIFE? But I've changed, I'm not afraid of you anymore, you will not be able to interfere in my or Luna's life."For the first time, Alison was happy to be able to answer her sister without fear. She promised herself that she would no longer be afraid and that she would answer.Because she may want to be in this life but he can't leave her little sister alone.






Every end is a beginning

If Alison's wounds were no longer hurting her, Simon reached out and gently touched her hand. When she'd look his way, he tilted his head a little, trying to indicate that she should follow him. "Come on," he whispered, "this way," and he led her back to where they had been. They didn't need to be there where here sister was and whatever her sister seemed angry about was beyond him, but he wanted to help the Gryffindor girl. Maybe he could.

If he could, he'd lead her away from her sister so they could talk. Maybe he could figure out what was going on, what was wrong at home. Maybe he could go as far as to help her find a solution to whatever it was.

He'd lead her away from her sister, back to where she wasn't being yelled at and hopefully to a place where they could talk. Maybe she could trust him a little. "What was your sister going on about?" he asked curiously. "What...what goes on at your house? I really feel as though you need to be talking to someone. Professor Pendrast is the Head of Gryffindor. Perhaps she can help. She's also quite qualified in Defense Against the Dark Arts. It actually seems like she would be the perfect fit to perhaps help you." He hoped she'd consider talking to an adult.

"I don't want to but I can tell you. My family is one of the oldest and purest families in London. That's why we're so well-known. That's why we do things we don't want, eat, drink and act like we're happy with it. But our punishments are quite different. For example, did you say something wrong about our family? they inflict deep wounds and starve for days. And those wounds hurt a lot as they pass. (her eyes fill with tears) If they heal quickly and they understand this, they are using an unforgivable curse. My sister finds this true and will write letters to my moms because of it. And they will inflict worse wounds. (her voice trembles) I remember all my pain. (starts shaking) I just stand for my brother, live for him, eat and drink for him. Everything is for him"
The girl began to cry, but out of comfort, not from pain, the knot in her throat untied and she began to sob. "She was the calm state of my sister you saw. Otherwise, it's worse.I've seen worse.

He noticed that Alison was a Gryffindor and for her to have such a pureblooded family, he could only think that they probably had rather wanted her in Slytherin. It seemed most of the old traditional/outdated sort of pureblood supremacy values wanted Slytherin, not that all Slytherins were like that. Still, it must have been very hard for her to be a member of that sort of family and he wished that she could have had it different.

"Then I'm glad you're here," Simon spoke. "I mean, I'm not saying it will be easy and I'm not saying the next time you go home you should defy them - but Hogwarts will teach you healing potions and of plants with healing properties. You will learn defensive spells as well as spells you can use to protect yourself if needed. Heck, eventually you could even become an animagus if you wanted and turn into an animal." That was in the later years but still possible, at least if she were human. Simon knew as a dhampir that wasn't an option for him. Sometimes he was curious as to why, but it didn't really matter as it wouldn't change anything. Just another aspect of where dhampirs didn't seem to carry quite the same weight around there as humans did.

Simon wasn't quite sure what to make of the girl there before him. She seemed to have a pretty rough home life and one that was potentially dangerous and for that he worried about her but he couldn't keep staying there in her presence. No, not when she kept threatening to tell 'his secret' and especially not when she thought this secret was that he was a vampire! Being a dhampir at Hogwarts was bad enough with all the limitations that halfbreeds experienced and the propaganda that was written in the school newspaper - he really didn't need a rumor like him being a vampire surfacing. After all, she should know he wasn't full blooded vampire because the two of them met outside on the school grounds during daylight!

"I wish you the best of luck, I really do," he said genuinely. Maybe throughout her time at Hogwarts, one of the professors would begin to see the signs of her family abuse, maybe her head of house, or maybe he'd even slip the information to him. Still, he was in over his head at that moment and needed to be done. "I'm going to head up to my dormitory. You get inside. Be warm. Be safe." And with that, Simon left from where she was.
