This was uh... an interesting matchup. Willow didn't know if her Goddess was playing tricks on her or what. But she had to watch the duel of her last opponent that verbally took her apart, and the last duel she moderated that took approximately three years to finish and was painful to watch until the end. Willow was more nervous than she was when she was on the duelling piste herself, but this is the hand that she was dealt and now had to deal with it.

She was hoping that Alan brought Tiger again so that she would have a cuddle buddy while the duel happened, honestly she should've brought Buttons but she forgot amidst her nervousness. As the duellers approached she made an effort not to make eye contact with Santario, still a little bit confused and upset by her from the last round. These were all seasoned duellists in front of her, so she didn't feel the need to get super into the introduction. The sooner they could start this the better. "Listen, we all know what we're doing here. You know the rules. Remember this time there will be a time limit so- choose your spells wisely." She looked over at Alan and Galton, one of the reasons there was now a limit to the duel time.

"Happy casting my- uh..." She fumbled on the words, realizing that she didn't exactly know if her and Santario were even friends now. "Just do your best." Her hand raised up as was her traditional way of starting the duel, coming down in a quick slash reminiscent of how the show Iron Chef started the competition. "Cast! Or Duel! Just, go! Start!" Willow shook her head, she was really off of her game for this one.

Galton the Glorious would return to the dueling piste once again. As he made his way down to the club room, he couldn't help but feel that his first stage duel lacked a little closure. Maybe it was the way in which he was knocked out, the frenzy of dodging and healing, that left him feeling so. But either way, here he was today; refreshed and ready to seek glory in a duel once more.

And this time, Galton wouldn't be seeking that glory in front of only his peers, he would also be seeking glory in the eyes of his pet, Toad. Inspired by his teammate, Galton was bringing the hairless feline to watch the match. Galton was sure (he presumed) that Willow would be fine with babysitting her. She was such a well behaved girl (Toad, not Willow) that Galton was sure she'd be just a treat. He had even given her a fresh shave for her dueling debut.

So Galton would prance into the dueling club, carrying Toad. Her legs swung with each step Galton took, eyes darting around the large room, exploring. Galton was hugging the feline without supporting her rear, letting the cat's rear legs dangle. Somehow she was used to this.

He made his way up to Willow and set the cat down. "Hi Willow! Toad would like to watch today too." Then he turned and climbed onto the stage to begin his duel. Stance ready, limbs loose, candy eaten - he readied himself for the start.

The Gryffindor was more nervous than ever, he... would finally really see Santario again, he had missed her. She had been avoiding him and it felt like a year or so all over, just worse. The last time she hadn't been able to shake him off, she had been hurt but she was still herself. But now... there was something different, he had seen her last duel and had heard how she had spoken to Willow. It had been cruel, something he was not used to from his friend. Though that wasn't entirely correct if he was being honest with himself, even before whatever happened, happened, he knew it was unwise to cross Santario and make her an enemy. He was a little nervous as he stepped to the piste, before he walked over to Willow, silently giving her a warm smile as he offered an embrace. He did not wish to be so suspicious, but he couldn't help it, he just was! This was not the Santario he knew! But there was Willow for now, a friend he had for since he could remember meeting her for the first time. If Willow were to accept the hug, he would give her a tight embrace before letting go of her and handing her his feline, who also was excited to greet the Hufflepuff once more; and of course the other cat that seemed to be present. Alan was a little perplexed at the cat's shaven appearance. Why? Did it have fleas and Galton had only managed to handle the issue by shaving his cat? Then again it was Galton's cat... he should not even be surprised right?

The Gryffindor was about to head over to his partner, before he caught sight of a familiar person entering the room. Worry was the first thing that crossed his face but for a split second it was overshadowed by the excitement of seeing his friend properly for the first time in a while. Sure he had seen her during meal times, crossing paths in the corridors and even patrols but she had been avoiding him and basically everyone! The excitement of now seeing her was there and so he rushed over to her and was about to give her an embrace, when he froze in place. His arms were still spread out as if to give the girl a hug, but when he got a closer look at her, he was shocked. She looked.... filthy and Santario never looked filthy! Not that she overly cared for appearance but she was always proper and clean. The usual sweet, floral scent of jasmine had been replaced by the sharp smell of old sweat and her tied back hair was greasy entangled beyond imagination as if she hadn't touched it in weeks. Perhaps the most shocking thing yet was her expression and eyes, it was dull and almost lifeless as if she had lost her drive and truly... what had happened to make it come to this? His arms had long dropped to his sides and he was left staring down at his friend with the strangest expression, "what... happened..?"

The fifth year almost forget their duel, he would listen to Santario if she were to say something, but understanding that he couldn't just steal everyone's time either, he reluctantly found his way back to the piste, though he seemed daze momentarily... at least until he heard Willow call the start of the duel. He couldn't let this distract him now, he would need to focus, he had to! He now had a team relying on him, but whatever was wrong with Santario, he would uncover the secret. He wanted his friend back!

After the success of their last duel, Sarah had walked into the duelling round against Gryffindor with a confidence she’d not held the last time around. It was nice, to have her first win under her belt as if she’d been able to prove her worth on her team - that she really did deserve to be there. It was a feeling she’d struggled with for years, feeling as though she’d truly earned her place without needing her name or her father to bully people into it. Like with the annual Lightwood-Huxley broom racing tournament held at her manor, and how she always happened to be on the winning team.

Point being, she had a confidence in herself walking into this duel, not one which left her cocky and assured that she and San would waltz in and win without even breaking a sweat, but one which left her comfortable and excited. Granted, this excitement had wavered when she’d seen who she was up against. It was one thing to be against duellists far more seasoned than her with more experience than she could hope for, but it was another to be up against those from older years. It was inevitable that they knew more spells - better charms and fixes than she or Santario could have learned yet. Though she didn’t let it knock her too much. Ultimately, duelling was tactical, you had to understand your opponent, and they had just as much chance of coming out victorious as anyone else might.

So she was back not he duelling piste, somewhere she’d come to love being, with her partner beside her and wand comfortably in hand. She smiled at Willow, hoping it showed no hard feelings from their previous duel - after all, what happened on and off the piste were to be kept strictly separate, as she’d tried to say when things had gone south in their last stint here. She allowed herself a moments distraction as she grinned at the felines making themselves comfortable around Willow’s feet, making a mental note that next time she could bring Nova. Just before the duel was called to begin, the Slytherin turned to her partner and gave her a resolute nod. “We’ve got this,” she said - they’d done it before, they could win again.

Santario stared at herself in the mirror, looking over her own features. Some small part of her desired to reach up and redo the braid she had been sleeping in the past week. Her fingers, dirty up to the first knuckle now with soil under her fingernails, reached up and touched her hair hesitantly before dropping back to her side. Lingering would do her no good as she decided to leave the bathroom and made her way to the duelling room.

For once, Santario was not looking forward to this duel paired up against the boy she had at one point considered her brother, and if in her right mind still would. She had even taken to calling him Phoenix, not only because it was his favorite animal but because he genuinely reminded her of one. He had been a beacon of inspiration for her for years, and now as she entered the duelling room, seeing him filled her with nothing but annoyance.

She crossed the threshold into the room, and if by some radar, Alan turned to look at her. Don’t do it. Keep your distance. He did it anyway. As Alan rushed forth, Santario would stop her progression to the piste making Alan cross the distance required to speak to her. His arms were open to give her a hug, but before she had to take evasive action, he stopped, and she slowly let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding. His observations were correct as she stared up at him with mostly void eyes; the only thing lurking behind them seemed to be rage standing on the sidelines, ready to be tagged in at a moment's notice. Regardless of the amplified vice in the younger girl, her usual porcelain fine complexion was pallid at best, and that was being generous.

She met his eyes, eyes she used to love to see tinge yellows and golds in excitement. Hers was no longer the striking sapphire blue but dulled like her skin into a blue-grey. When Alan’s arms dropped, half of her mouth twisted up into a smirk, and she allowed his question to linger in the air between them as if savoring what he was feeling. “Take your place, Vanes.” The monotone mud slid from her lips as slick as the grease in her hair. She brushed past him to take her place next to Sarah, returning the nod given to her.

Santario looked at Willow with indifference, almost as if she didn’t remember what had been said to the mage or, perhaps, just didn’t care. It would be far more inappropriate for Willow to attempt to start in on her here, and Santario knew it. The only thing that would seem to make the changeling falter were the felines. She drew her wand as usual as she stared at the cats, her tongue poking out to lick her lips as if they were dry, or perhaps as if she were hungry. She swallowed hard before looking at her opponents, standing at the ready, cherrywood wand in hand.

Willow didn't know what she did right for this to happen, but she had not one but two cats to keep her company during the duel. "Toad? Oh my goodness how- cute?" When she got a good look at Toad she realized the cat was completely shaved. Before she could ask Galton questions he had already walked away, replaced with Alan and Tiger. "You guys are making it hard to do my job, but I'm not going to say no." She got the kitties settled with Tiger at her feet and receiving head scratches, and Toad held like a tiny little infant baby. She briefly made eye contact with Sarah, giving her a small smile and nod in return to hers. Willow attempted to not look at Santario, but it was hard given how absolutely filthy the girl was. Willow's nose wrinkled up in disgust but made no further comment as the duel began.

The badger had forgotten how ferocious the lions could be at the beginning of a duel.Alan went for the ever damaging Pressurized Water Charm, hitting Santario quite hard and soaking her just a little bit. Though the girl looked like she could use a shower. It would be a little hard to see this next round. Especially with Galton attempting to blindfold both of them. As Santario attempted to dodge, she was hit just barely by the blindfold. Leaving a weird window of vision for her. Sarah however was able to dodge it completely.

The snakes did their best, both targeting Galton. Santario attempted Galton's signature spell that Willow had seen so much from him. The Wind Jinx. However, he was able to dodge it easily. Sarah attempted to disarm Galton completely, but it was almost like Galton knew the spell was coming before Sarah had cast it. This would be quite the battle, the lions were steadfast but the snakes were vicious and cunning in their attacks. Willow knew better than to try and predict a winner this early. For now, she was content to watch and pet some cats.

"Vanes?" he retorted in slight disbelief as he stared at Santario, before he cleared his throat. "You never call me that," he demanded, but what? It sounded accusatory and confused but he was not aware what he wanted to achieve with that. He was however quick to cast his spell, launching a burst of water towards the girl, his friend subconsciously hoping it would remove some of that grime and wake her up from whatever living nightmare she got herself lost in. Galton was also more or less successful in delivering a blindfold onto the young girl's face, though it slumped down on one side, leaving enough room for her to still see.

Both of the Slytherins found it wise to target Galton instead of Alan, which caused the fifth year to narrow his eyes. Apparently that was gonna be a constant strategy of their opponents, was he truly this scary to them? In another situation he might have been amused, but his thoughts were still clouded by worry for his friend. "Let's win this," he said calmly to Galton, though the mix of emotion, most of all excitement and worry were present in his tone.

His opening spread had done something! Of course it would! But you never knew when you had to try to slip a spell, aiming was also so finicky. But he'd been able to land a hit (kinda) and that is what mattered!

It also mattered that he had avoided all the scary magic that had headed his way. Toad was watching, the thought of her watching him get beaten up made him want to try that much harder. The words of Alan made him want to try harder as well. Such a relaxing man."Let's!" Galton would blurt out before preparing for his next move.

Alan’s accusation would land at her feet as she ignored him, her attention focusing on Galton. Alan wasn’t the threat; Galton was. She had observed his duels the best she could and knew the Candy King had an uncanny ability to split his spells seemingly on command. This is what made him so dangerous and thus the target to eliminate.

This was the first time Santario had stepped onto the piste and expected to leave on a stretcher. She had only once before, but they had still managed to win due to a forfeit from the other team. Her very first duel. While Santario wanted to win and maintain her spotless record of winning, the other part of her was tired. She didn’t want to be here fighting Alan in front of these people. She was just… So… Tired.

Santario sent out the spell she almost always opened a duel with, Ventus, and the Candy King managed to evade it, something she had expected he was just too nimble. Probably all that sugar. Unfortunately, Sarah also missed. Santario’s luck was running out, not that she seemed to really have any since becoming a changeling. Alan hit her with an impressive stream of water, a spell San couldn’t cast yet, and it was not by any means painless. A half grunt, half growl escaped her lips as she put a foot behind her to brace against the force of the spell, making sure she didn’t move or topple backward. Yet, this, too, would be working against her, mainly being unable to dodge the spell Galton sent her way. A black cloth wrapped itself around her eyes, and whether it was because her face was wet or because she had managed to somehow throw off the intended path of the spell, the cloth partially slipped down, giving her some mercy of vision.

Santario rolled her head around, stretching her neck as she stared at the lions water dripping from her robe plink, plink, plink onto the piste. She looked like the very thing she had been eating, wet rats in the basements; perhaps you really were what you ate.
