A Little Companionship

There was a comfort one could find in the Library. The dry, stuffy scent of aged parchment books, blended against the warmth and protection of the heavy shelves. It was one of the few places, Illowy figured, one could truly think as they were meant to, with only the sounds of hushed voices and the scratching of quills to parchment and the occasional turn of a page. Nothing very bad ever seemed to touch the Library.
For nearly two years, much of the young witch's time had been spend tucked away here trying to gather any scrap of information she might find related to the curse; and while it was still a cause she was committed to solving, with the cure now available it didn't feel as dire as it had before. She felt more at ease wandering through the shelves and searching for a place to study, without the weight of a waning hourglass resting on her shoulders. There was time to focus on where she had started lacking in her studies; at least it was her idea of lacking. Illowy didn't like having less then an O average, and she feared further risking that.
As she tried to settle for a place, she noticed a familiar girl sitting off on her own. If she recalled correctly, she'd been one of the girl's she and Bridget had met for a study group the year prior. Anabelle or Anastasia? Some sort of fancy sounding A-name. Bridget hadn't seemed to be her biggest fan, though she'd never inquired to her friend quite why that was. They'd all seemed to get on well enough in the study group, and she recalled the blonde to at least be competent. What harm to at least try to be friendly, right? After all, Illowy had spent the last two years practically locking herself away from companionship beyond her small, painfully tiny, circle of friends. Best to try to put some of her new found confidence to use and shake away the cold, unapproachable reputation she'd built for herself.
Holding herself a little taller, she took the chance to approach, setting her books down on the table across from the blonde, "Fancy a study mate?" she asked softly, resting a hand on a chair, waiting to get the 'okay' from the other before she assumed a seat. After all, it was possible that the other girl simply wanted time to herself, and Illowy would hate to impose on her solitude.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.
