Friendly Banter or Is It Still A Spat?

Hjørdis enjoyed baking, without a doubt. Experimenting with a recipe, creating a new flavour and discovering something new was always fun. However, spending countless hours just sitting there and decorating the cupcakes or cookies was just as much fun. She spent a lot of her time icing cupcakes but cookies rarely got the same benefit. Mostly because half of the batch would end up eaten before they even cooled down. If she did not hurry, she would not even manage to eat one. Icing the cookies was a dream quickly forgotten when she was busy trying to save one and eat it.
So when she heard that there was a decorating event, she thought it might be fun to stick around and see what happens. In front of her, she had a tray of plain undecorated heart-shaped cookies and a bunch of different colours of icing. Her eyes scanned the selection. A plan began to formulate in my mind as she started to visualise her creation. It was one of the few times she could take a bit of time and create something, without really worrying about anyone else. Mostly because she had chosen a seat at the Professors' table, to avoid having to talk to any nosy students and so, she did not have to listen to their conversations.
Besides, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, she figured she was due some time to do what she loved to do. Though, perhaps she ought to give the cookies away rather than eating them. That part, she had not concluded on. Hjørdis was tempted to eat them all but that sort of defeated the purpose of the event, no? Perhaps the 'nice' thing to do was to gift them to someone and she really ought to try doing that nice thing. It did sound awfully boring though. Hm. Well, first, she had to decorate them. After that, she could figure out if she was going to devour them all or gift them to someone.
Picking up the red, she took the first cookie in her hand and started to carefully ice around it. She covered the entire face of the cookie with the red icing, before putting it down and taking the second one. With this, she did the same whilst she waited for the first to dry. Hjørdis was very careful to leave them spaced out on the plate, icing to the edge and then leaving them to dry. Having red hearts was not the end goal of this but it was the first step. Though it would have been easier to simply throw the red dye into the cookie batter before they were baked, this would have to do.

Marcus Iwasaki strolled into the Great Hall that afternoon unaware of the errand that was being run. Of course, he had known that one of his Prefects would be running a cookie errand this month, but the exact date had slipped his mind. When he entered the dining hall, he was taken aback by the smell of the baked goods. It immediately brought up the memory of the summer, when Nora had him taste-test dozens of cookies that she had whipped up. And speak of the devil-
Having spotted his friend up at the staff table, Marcus made his way through the hall. He paid no mind to the hoards of students laughing and decorating the cookies, aside from realizing that the cookies were all heart-shaped and this seemed to be a Valentine's-related task. Interesting that Nora would decide to partake in it. As he approached the table at the head of the hall, the man couldn't help the smirk that was playing at his lips. Just the idea of her doing something for Valentine's Day was humorous to him.
"Are these all for me, Ms Jensen?" Marcus asked upon seeing the spread of heart cookies in front of her. He was appreciative of the fact that she had chosen to do this in solitude, far from the other students partaking in the errand. Children put him on edge, and he would not be as relaxed if they were nearby. "Such an honor to be your designated Valentine," he added. Without a second thought, Marcus nicked one of the cookies she had carefully filled with the red icing and took a large bite. He pretended to tip an imaginary hat in thanks as he took the seat at the corner of the table next to her.
There was humor in his amber eyes as he looked at her, sure that there would be repercussions but he was hoping it wouldn't be anything serious with children down the hall. So he risked taking it a step further as he swallowed the bite of cookie, "Or are these, perhaps, for your boyfriend?"

Marcus' Intimidation is in effect. It is a sentiment that enters people's hearts when they are in your presence. They feel dis-ease when you are present, even if the interaction is casual or even friendly.

Minding her own business, Hjørdis was happily just decorating her own cookies. It seemed like a good way to encourage the students to take part in these sorts of activities - by being a role model in that aspect. She did not just preach that self-care was important, she practised it. That was until a voice disrupted her thoughts, that was. Quirking her eyebrow, she watched as he wasted no time in teasing her.
Wh- Her eyes narrowed as she followed his hand that was lifting up one of the cookies that she had set aside to dry. As it got closer to him, her eyes almost screamed 'you better not, Iwasaki' but it was too late. He had already devoured a large amount of the cookie in one go. Outrageous! He ate one of the cookies! What was this?! Her expression should have told him that there would, indeed, be repercussions for such behaviour. However, he seemed to be in a good mood - or perhaps a foolish one - as he continued.
Boyfriend. Her face almost reddened at the words. Of all things she had expected to hear come out of his mouth in the Great Hall, that one was not it.
Oh, for the love of Flamel, why did she entertain such behaviour? Hjørdis allowed her eyes to flicker back down to the cookie she had been working on, as she continued to carefully ice it. A plan forming in the back of her mind before she even had a chance to reply. There were so many different ideas. She was far from narrowing them down to anything concrete but give her time, she knew she would. "Oh, you like them? I- I wasn't sure how to tell you. How did you figure out that I felt this way, Marcus? I'm so pleased you've agreed to be my Valentine! I can't believe you also feel this way." She responded, batting her eyes at him with a slightly shy look on her face as though he had uncovered her deepest darkest secret.
He had realised that she had gone through all of this effort, just for him?! It was definitely a sign, right? How adorable! He paid so much attention to her. It really was a blessing. "Though, perhaps you should wait till I finish decorating them to eat them, or am I going to have to slap your hand away from the cookies too? Trust me, I have enough practice doing that." She added, thinking of the aforementioned boyfriend.

Marcus had taken another bite of the cookie in his hand while awaiting Nora's response, and so he almost choked when she did. Wha- Why- The man barely managed to refrain from coughing in surprise. He couldn't maintain eye contact while she batted her eyes at him, so his amber gaze immediately fell to the table in front of him. It was his turn to be flabbergasted, he definitely had not expected her to come back with such a ploy. And there was no way he would play along with this.
"Well played," he conceded, after swallowing the cookie without dying from discomfort. He was finally able to raise his eyes to hers again as she spoke about swatting away hands. He offered a small grin, "I'm sure you do."
Marcus' gaze once again fell to the cookies in front of her. She had a lot of different icing colors and a lot of heart cookies. He didn't think he'd ever asked her opinion about tomorrow before, and with how many cookies she was making, he wasn't sure he would guess correctly. "Are you a big fan of Valentine's Day?" he asked, his tone of voice hopefully indicating he was genuinely curious about the answer, rather than teasing her again. "From my experience, people either hate it or love it, there isn't much in-between," he pondered aloud.
