"Sugar quills and ice mice, please." Gemima said politely.
"o-oh uhm.." Winter was hesitant is asking, "m-may I have some lemon drops please..?"
Junhee couldn't help but admire both their good manners, she could tell Winter felt a little uncomfortable and was still sort of shy. Junhee just decided she would try her best to make her and Gemima feel comfortable.
"You got it," Junhee smiled. Not a bad selection Junhee thought to herself. She handed the treat witch the money, and dispersed the snacks. Junhee chowed down, she ate messily but still well-mannered.
"Thank you Junhee, you didn't have to do that.. I appreciate it very much," Winter said shyly.
"No problem, don't mention it. I love sharing snacks.... and flowers," Junhee smiled giving a little laugh at the end.
Junhee decided to crack off a quick joke to add more conversation,
"Did you hear about the claustrophobic astronaut?" Junhee waited for suspense. "He just wanted a bit more space."
Junhee laughed so hard she had to hold her stomach, her laugh sounded almost fairy like. She was sure she enjoyed the joke more than the other two girls.
"By the way, do you guys like Dragons?"

Gemima accepted the candy enthusiastically. Junhee was laughing uproariously at her own joke, but her laughter was high and sweet, like a fairy's. Gemima couldn't help snorting at the punchline. Her dad had told plenty of those jokes at home.
She eagerly popped an ice mouse into her mouth, and shivered as the familiar freezing sweetness spread over her tongue. Her teeth chattered together. She clapped a hand over her mouth in embarassment as a couple tiny squeaks! escaped her lips. She smiled awkwardly and examined an ice mouse in her fingers. It really was a tiny little mouse sculpted out of shiny ice. She made a note to research them later-it was really interesting.
"Do you guys like dragons? asked Junhee.
Gemima snapped out of her reverie, fumbling for something to say. "Yeah, sure I do! There are so many different varieties and species. Hungarian Horntails and Chinese Fireballs are cool and all, but the Antipodean Opaleye is for sure my favorite. It's so elegant.."
She petered off at that, suddenly realizing how much she had just said in such a short time span. That was unheard of for her. She sucked on a sugar quill, feeling anxiety pooling in her gut again.

"Yeah, sure I do! There are so many different varieties and species. Hungarian Horntails and Chinese Fireballs are cool and all, but the Antipodean Opaleye is for sure my favorite. It's so elegant.." Gemima said before trailing off looking nervous again. Wow, she is very shy, Junhee thought to herself, but she's also very cool and smart.

"Yeah they're all so cool! The Antipodean Opaleye is very beautiful. You know a lot about dragons! My favorite is The Ukrainian Ironbelly. By the way you don't need to stop talking, I like hearing what you know and like. We're friends afterall." Junhee said smiling, before eating a chocolate frog, it's leg kicking inside her mouth.

"dragons, why yes I love them! though I'm more interested in thestrals-" she spoke her mind with a grin "my favorite is the Hebridean Black but both of yours are amazing as well!"
Junhee smiled, she was glad that Winter was talking more, she was pretty cool.

"Thestrals? Oh how could I forget! Thestrals are amazing, wanting to see them is a mix feeling though. That's because I really want to see them because they are amazing, but that means I would have to lose someone I love. I knew someone once who owned a wand with a thestral hair core. The hebridean black is beautiful and mysterious, nice choice."

Gemima pulled the sugar quill out of her mouth in surprise.
"Oh." was all she could say. Part of her was happy that Junhee didn't find her annoying, but the other part was a bit shocked at the sudden declaration. Could people make friends just like that? She supposed that she didn't have much experience to draw from, but did people really move that quickly? Sure enough, Junhee was now smiling and talking away with Winter.
Gem's mind was sending itself into a tailspin again, and she wasn't sure how to react. Her first instinct was to curl into her shell again, to stay quiet, to let people pass her by.
But, whispered a small voice in her head. You're on the Hogwarts Express, a train that will take you to a school of magic! You should just calm down and throw caution to the wind. Go for it! It was like Cath had used sibling telepathy from four compartments over, just knowing her little sister needed reassurance.
Gemima took a deep breath, and turned to Junhee. "I'd love to be friends!" she smiled. “By the way, the Ukranian Ironbelly is a really good choice!" she said, confidence burgeoning in her voice. "Did you know that it can breathe fire that can get as hot as 1,960 degrees celsius?" She wiggled her fingers rather spookily, grinning. "You'd be obliterated in seconds!
Then she shrank back again, a bit awkwardly. "Sorry," she giggled. "Was that too much?" Her hair fell into her eyes, and she stuck the sugar quill back in her mouth as she pensively waited for Junhee to answer. It was becoming a bit of a security blanket at this point.

Winter was happy that Gemima hadn't been scared of her as many had before, she always hated it when people would be frightened of her. After all, she wouldn't hurt a fly unless necessary! Instead of finding it weird or just cool the words the other in the cupboard used were 'amazing', 'unique' both put a bright smile on winter's face and it made her feel so much better "thank you!" Sure the two of them had practically been strangers aside from learning each other's names, instead of asking questions the young dhampir would just observe as she had done to all she came across.

It was only natural for someone to be curious and so she hadn't minded nor been shocked by the questions "well I have exceptional hearing and sight- and as odd as It may sounds, as a dhampir, I cry blood!" it must've been odd to be hearing these things but she had been happy to answer all the questions the girl had, I mean she has been nothing but nice "tendencies, hmm- I'm not sure if this counts but I do enjoy staying up most of the night and I have occasional blood pops from honeydukes! id never do anything to harm anyone in any way unless completely necessary and so you have nothing to worry about"

A girl, out of nowhere crashed into the compartment earning a jump from Winter "Woah- h-hey are you alright..?" she asked but in no time the girl picked herself back up with a bright red face of embarrassment "oh- it's alright don't worry about it, we'd love to have you!" she looked at gemima as her gaze wandered over, showing she agreed that the girl should be able to have a seat. After her hopefully, new-found friend and the other had introduced themselves winter had done the same "a-and I'm winter, it's a pleasure to meet you Junhee! may I just add you are quite pretty" a smile grew as she looked at the girl.

It came as a surprise when the cart pulled up and Junhee had offered to buy for both of the girls, two strangers "o-oh uhm.." she was hesitant and decided just to ask for one simple thing "m-may I have some lemon drops please..?", she wasn't going to be greedy she was rather thankful "thank you Junhee, you didn't have to do that.. I appreciate it very much" the two newcomers were so nice it was amazing! A joke was sent flying out of Junhee's mouth earning a small chuckle from winter.

"dragons, why yes I love them! though I'm more interested in thestrals-" she spoke her mind with a grin "my favorite is the Hebridean Black but both of yours are amazing as well!" Winter watched as they both spoke about being friends "could I be your friend as well..?" she looked at them both with an awkward sort of smile due to being nervous. Despite all the kindness flying around the compartment she couldn't help but feel weird since the two seemed to be getting along quite well and winter was being quiet for the most part.

Gemima flopped back into the plush red velvet of the seat. She was surprised at how energetic she felt. Maybe it was because of all the sugar she had eaten, but she felt really happy all of a sudden. She remembered reading alone under beach shade back home, while the other kids from school ran around on the boardwalk together. They always looked so energetic and full of joy, just content to be in each other's company.
Is this what that feels like? She thought. Her eyes were wide, and sparkling, a small smile playing on her lips. She could definitely get used to this. She felt even more eager to get to Hogwarts than before. Her mind was buzzing at all the possibilities that awaited her, all the interesting people she might meet. Here already were two delightful girls who she had met just by chance. Who knew what her year would hold?
Winter, who had been mostly quiet when Gem and Junhee were talking, perked up in her seat. There was a small bag of lemon drops in her lap. "Could I be your friend as well?" She asked hesitantly. Gemima looked over at her from her seat, and grinned.
"Of course!"

Gemima paused for a while, seemingly thinking.
Did I say something? Junhee thought to herself.
Then Gemima took a deep breath, and turned to Junhee. "I'd love to be friends!" she smiled and Junhee sighed in relief smiling as well. "By the way, the Ukranian Ironbelly is a really good choice!" she said, confidence burgeoning in her voice. "Did you know that it can breathe fire that can get as hot as 1,960 degrees celsius?" Her hair fell into her eyes, and she stuck the sugar quill back in her mouth as she pensively waited for Junhee to answer. It was becoming a bit of a security blanket at this point. Junhee couldn't help but laugh, how could she have so much duality?
"No, not enough actually," Junhee smiled.
Winter, who had been mostly quiet when Gem and Junhee were talking, perked up in her seat. There was a small bag of lemon drops in her lap. "Could I be your friend as well?" She asked hesitantly. Gemima looked over at her from her seat, and grinned. Junhee beamed with happiness.
"Of Course!"
"Absolutely!"
Junhee was more than happy and excited for her adventure in Hogwarts, she just made two new friends what else could await them? Yes them, they were a team now.

The small compartment was full of absolute joy and winter couldn't help but smile at the constant kindness flying around, she had made two more friends just by talking barley. It was a bit odd to her but the way none of the two other had questioned her shyness of made her uncomfortable was amazing to her, she thought to herself about what she could say now.

Of course she thanked both of them "w-wow thank you both so much its a great pleasure of mine to be a friend to you wonderful people!!" her eyes shined and it hit her, they had never been to Hogwarts before and there was no doubt they would be curious. "before we reach the school did you guys have any questions about anything? it can be a bit scary to be in such a crowded spot with different years looking at you guys..!" she paused as she remembered how nervous she was whilst getting sorted.

Shaking the thought away she spoke again "just be yourself, the hat never lies you'll end up in your perfect house!! For example, I'm the only one in my family to have been sorted into Hufflepuff, though I always have been the black sheep of the family, but hey, the difference is just another thing to look at as a unique thing you have right?"

Gemima leaned closer at that. Tips for surviving Hogwarts would definitely be helpful.
Winter smiled."Just be yourself. The hat never lies, and you'll end up in your perfect house!! For example, I'm the only one in my family to have been sorted into Hufflepuff, though I always have been the black sheep of the family. But hey, the difference is just another thing to look at as a unique thing you have right?

"Hmm.. I don't know what House I'll be put in," mused Gemima. "My sister, Cath, is a Gryffindor, and my dad was a Slytherin. Mum went to Ilvermorny in America, where I think she was in Thunderbird? I don't remember what they're all about."
Her brain was teeming with questions about Hogwarts, but she didn't want to overwhelm Winter. "...What classes will there be?" She finally asked. It was a bit of an unexpected question, but her mind had gone straight to what the classes might be like. The muggle school back home had really easy classes, and she knew that she'd be entering different territory at Hogwarts. Cath hadn't told her much about the classes. "They're all a waste of time, except Defense Against the Dark Arts. You're really smart, so I don't think you'll have any trouble."

One more thing. "And, um, are the other kids nice enough?" Junhee and Winter were lovely, but her stomach twisted at the thought of meeting other children. Come to think of it, there were probably hundreds of students in Hogwarts. Would they all be watching the Sorting? Gem pressed her hands to her chin, lost in thought again.

The Hogwarts Express - 1st September 2021

The old train was an impressive thing, all said. The Hogwarts Express had become a staple for the wizarding school, and Aurelius had to admit that - in the days before he was due to take his trip on the express - he had been looking forward to the prospect. From what the Irish boy had heard, compartments were limited in space, so the likelihood of sharing space with people you didn't know was high. That didn't matter to Aurelius, though, he had no concerns or worries when it came to other people.

The send off from Platform 9¾ had been uneventful. Aurelius and his mother had traveled to the station, using magic, as it was the closest to Waterford in Ireland. There were other magical trains that traveled across Europe and the British Isles, certainly, but for simplicity just using the London line was the most direct. So, after a brief - and thoroughly emotionless - send off, the youngest Leeds son had boarded the train with his trunk of belongings in tow.

And here Aurelius was, standing in the corridor of the Express, having needed to stretch his legs. The conversation with some other pure-bloods from the compartment Aurelius had been in, had become tiresome and drivel about blood purity, and the want to wander had increased. Being a curious sort, and not really caring about what others thought, the Irish youth had simply excused himself and left the seat.

Better keep an eye out for a spare seat, now, Aurelius thought to himself, as he walked the slowly rocking and shifting passage. His trunk was behind him, being pulled along, and he was dressed in an all-black nondescript Hogwarts school uniform. This one could be promising...

Several feet ahead, Aurelius peeked into a compartment, and saw a trio speaking. One was even a Hufflepuff, likely a second year judging by her seeming young age, and they all seemed to be enjoying light conversation. In fact, Aurelius heard a girl with dark hair ask about classes - and this immediately piqued his interest, as getting some knowledge from an existing Hogwarts student sounded very beneficial!

"Hello," Aurelius said, as he opened the door to the compartment, a smile on his face and his Irish accent obvious. "I'm looking for a seat. Hope you don't mind me joining you?"

The youth stepped into the compartment, and did his best to weave through the legs, until he was at the space that was unoccupied. He slid his trunk under the seat and sat down with a small grunt. Aurelius straightened his jacket, then looked to the others, who seemed friendly with one another.

They've probably already introduced themselves.

"I'm Aurelius, a pleasure to meet you all," He said with another smile, as he looked between them all with blue eyes, before looking to the Hufflepuff. "And I believe you were asked about what classes are at Hogwarts? I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I'm glad I did... have you discovered any secrets? I've heard there's many, many secrets at Hogwarts."

The new compartment could turn out to be very interesting, indeed...
