Linyum took the train. She was so nervous about everything. While the kids in one of the train's cabin were talking, she was just sitting by the window, watching the trees. She was stuck by many things like which house she get in, who is going to be her best friend or will teachers like her. Being thinking, someone poked her on the shoulder.
''We arrived.''

She felt that she was closer one step more to the sorting ceremony.
''What am i gonna do, what am i gonna say?''
She followed the other student step by step, aaand that's it. Here is Hogwarts.
Hogwarts came so huge to her. She asked herself that would the Hogwarts become smaller while she is growing up like the garden of their house. ''I'll become bigger, again.'' she thought. She was really growing up without noticing.

The sorting ceremony began. One of the teachers started to call names. She was thinking very odd things like can the sorting hat become tired or how it could be that everyone has a sorting hat so they knew their houses before they came to Hogwarts. The time passed by with strangers names.
So it was the time. ''Linyum Hortensia.''

She went forward, sat the chair and waited to feel the sorting hat on her head.

'' Different mind with a different soul.'' the Sorting Hat said.
'' You are thinking many things even at the same time, huh.''
'' You got me thinking. Where to put you, where to put you?''

''Do you have any algorithm to choose, or do you just know it? No, you just do not know. You said you are thinking. So, how can you decide so quickly, then? You can be a Minister of Magic, you know. You are not getting older, your choices never went wrong? Why are you h-..''

The Sorting Hat heckled Linyum's words.

''SShhh.. Little one. I know where to put you. You can be anything but today you are going to be..''

''Ravenclaw.''

Coming to Hogwarts was one of the easiest decisions Richard has ever made. All the time struggling to fit in the society and feeling as he never belonged there, has made it all that easier. The only obstacle and hiccup on the way to reaching Hogwarts was his mother, but thanks to the father's intervention even went smoothly...

"Well, almost smoothly" - he mumbled beneath the breath, thinking about flying pot his mother launched, which he barely dodged on the way out. Nevertheless, negative thoughts didn't occupy his mind for a long, as he entered the Great Hall and was caught of guard by the unbelievable site before him.

Richard was following the crowd of people in front of him mouth agape. He didn't know where he is going or what is next to come, turning his head frantically in all directions, jumping every time something would move or flew past or above him.

It wasn't as he didn't prepare himself for unbelievable but no one or nothing could have prepare him for this. Even the chapters in the books he skimmed through, couldn't have captured the spectacular, dreamy like enormous room that was buzzing with all kinds of magic stuff and the cheerful atmosphere filled with excited, but unintelligible crowd's chit-chat.

As soon as he sat and he recovered the breath, the thought that crossed his mind was. "Hogvorts, gde si bio sve ove godine do sada".

Hogwarts, where have you been all this years in my life.

"I probably should start practicing more to think and speak in English, from now on", he scold himself softly, as his eyes wide open when the plate magically began to fill with food.

"Now this is what I call the life", he shout excitedly to no one particularly and with mouthful he turned into direction of where professors were sitting.

Before she had boarded the train to Hogwarts, Cassie hadn't known much about the world of magic or the wonder that was Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, the minute she’d stepped onto the carriage and picked out a compartment, she had grabbed her Hogwarts, A History textbook and began reading avidly.
It had described in great detail the grand event known as the Sorting Ceremony. The sorting hat carefully brought out to the awaiting crowd, some with bated breath and others itching to have the tattered headpiece over their ears; but nothing is quite the same when its experienced in person.
The atmosphere was like nothing Cassie had ever experienced before in the Great Hall as the huddle of new First Years waited anxiously for the infamous sorting hat to be brought out for them to try on. Behind them could be heard the murmur of the other students, already placed at their tables and impatiently wishing the bowls and plates in front of them would fill with food already.
A hush fell over the hall as finally, the sorting hat was brought into the room and placed delicately on the wooden stool that sat on the raised platform just in front of the Staff table.
Cassie couldn't help it as her hands twisted around each other as the list of names was called out, one by one. Soon it would be her turn and she would find out where her future at this grand school lay.

"Tipperton, Cassandra."

Cassie blinked a couple of times, looking around dumbly before realising that was her name.
Taking a couple of deep breaths, she stepped out from the crowd around her (trying my best not to knock into any of the other students. She kept her eyes firmly on the ground as she stepped up to the platform and took her seat.
The heavy fabric of the sorting hat fell over her ears and the hats rim dipped into her view.

Well, well, well, what do we have here...Skilled most definitely...a little wary perhaps...

Cassie tried to keep the surprise out of her eyes as she listened to the voice murmur on in her ear, a deep boding voice that she knew would either spell success or disaster.

Hmm, rather outspoken aren't we? I could see you doing well in Slytherin...you have the mind for it, the cunning and you're mother certainly did well there...

"What?" The surprise of hearing the hat mention her mother caused Cassie to say the word out loud, and in a much higher decibel than she would have liked.
A million pairs of eyes stared back at her. Some looked confused but some of the others were wearing smiles - like they knew the internal battle she was currently going through, trying to decipher what was in her head and what could be heard out loud.

Although...there's definitely something else there...a individuality and a curiosity that maybe makes you a...

"RAVENCLAW!"

Almost instantly the hat was removed from her head and a hand on her back was indicating Cassie needed to vacate the chair and take her place at the Ravenclaw table.
She let my eyes wander over where she saw a number of seemingly friendly faces smiling and clapping in her direction while some were merely looking over curiously.

Even though the whole experience was undeniably overwhelming, Cassie could tell she was going to thoroughly enjoy  being a part of both her new house and her new school.

It seemed like it was only a few minutes ago that he had woken up with his nerves tying his stomach in knots. What was Hogwarts going to be like? There was only so much that reading in a book could tell you, and reading became rather tedious after some time. In the end reading hadn't been able to scratch the surface at what it would be like to walk through what he had thought had been a wall that, instead, had lead him to platform nine and three quarters at the train station. It hadn't been able to scratch the surface of what riding on the Hogwarts Express would be like. It hadn't been able to scratch the surface of what being lead into the great hall would be like, with all eyes on him and his fellow classmates.

Most importantly, though, it hadn't been able to scratch the surface or prepare him for what it would be like to have a crusty old hat dropped on his head. Somehow the thing seemed to be able to read his mind, probing with various questions that he couldn't seem to stop himself from answering. Others had gone through the process before he had but even so, it was unlike anything he had ever imagined in his life. Whether or not a few seconds had passed, or a few hours, he didn't know but when the hat exclaimed "SLYTHERIN!" to everyone in the Great Hall it had startled him back to reality.

"Bloody hell. That thing smelled like old socks," he mumbled to himself as he sauntered in the direction of the Slytherin table with a wry smile on his face. As he slipped onto the long bench he leaned forward and curiously looked at the rest of his new classmates. It was an odd way to determine who would go where but he supposed it was better than reaching into a cup and drawing a name out of a hat or some other non sensical random way of making a decision.

Moments later his stomach rumbled loudly and his eyes went wide as he hadn't even noticed that he was hungry. Offering an apology to the classmate sitting next to him, he rubbed his stomach to ease the hunger pangs that had come upon him as his eyes returned to the front of the great hall where the next poor chap was having the old crusty hat slapped down upon their head as well. Tadgh hoped they would feed him soon or he just might sneak out and see if he could find a way to a kitchen where he could nab a snack to hold him over. Or maybe there was some kind of magic they would be able to use on him to make him stop feeling so suddenly, desperately hungry.

Howie stood in line with the other first years, his palms sweaty as they all nervously waited their turn to be sorted. He could hardly believe that this was all happening. It had only been a few months ago that the representative from Hogwarts had shown up on his eleventh birthday, informing him that he was a wizard.
He took another step forward as the young witch in front of him went to take her turn. Howie shuffled his robes around, trying to get used to wearing such garments. He thought of what his muggle friend would think seeing him dressed this way. Looking up, he saw the night sky reflecting back at him through the enchanted ceiling. “Wow, this place is amazing.” He thought to himself.
“Howie Tietjen!” A voice called out, snapping him out of his day dream. He looked forward as one of the staff was beckoning him towards the stool. Taking a deep breath he walked over and sat down. Within a moment, his vision was blocked out as the hat was placed on his head, sliding down over his eyes. He tapped his foot nervously as he waited for something to happen.
“Hmm, let’s see.” A voice rang out in his head. Not wanting to be judge poorly, Howie tried to think of something else as the ancient hat read his mind. He thought of his parents, and the small bakery they owned. He worried how they would fare without him. “I see, loyal...caring.” The hat said in his mind. “Steadfast, and a diligent worker. I know just the place for you.” Howie held his breath as he waited. “HUFFLEPUFF!” The hat screamed out to the great hall. The staff member pulled the hat off his head. Howie ran off to the yellow clad table.

Upon entering the castle, Benji eagerly climbed the stone steps with his fellow classmates until finally they arrived at the great hall. What was once a great roaring noise of laughter, shouting, and general merriment soon became still as the doors to the great hall opened and the first year group shuffled in. Benji walked in with his long time best friend Lettie, who appeared very focused. Benji had known Lettie a long time and suspected she may be nervous. Noticing the tension, Benji made a quick remark to attempt to ease his friend’s nerves. “Dibs on not being first!”. Lettie retorted "Mum said they call us out in alphabetical order by our last names, so I'm pretty sure you'll probably be first.. Now shut it, I don't want to miss anything!”. Benji grinned. He and his classmates arrived at the spot where they would wait to be sorted, awaiting to stand trial from a hat that would soon determine where he would be spending the next seven years of his live.

Benji was beginning to become anxious now. His palms were filled with sweat; he brushed them off on his robes and looked out across the house tables to the Hufflepuff table, where his brother Thomas waved. Benji became more nervous and began thinking about how much it might disappoint Thomas if he were not placed in the same house.
Suddenly, Benji heard his name being echoed through the great hall, “Benjamin Addington”. He marched over to the sorting hat and sat on the stool. The sorting hat was placed in his head. The sorting hat felt larger on his head than he had imagined. Suddenly, a voice began speaking out of the top of his head.

“BENJAMIN ADDINGTON…A NERVOUS ONE, BUT CLEVER AND HUMBLE. YOU HAVE STRONG DETERMINATION. A DESIRE TO BELONG. SOMETIMES A STUBBORN ONE, AREN’T YOU? HMMMM…”

“Does this always take this long” Benji thought, feeling an eternity had passed since he felt the heavy hat fall on his head. Suddenly, the sorting hat bellowed “RAVENCLAW” and the hat was removed from his head in an instant. Panicked that he did not get sorted into his brother’s house, Benji quickly scanned the room in disbelief looking for his brother. Benji found Thomas in the crowd at the Hufflepuff table. A pit grew in his stomach. Thomas had a look of disbelief as his jaw seemed to nearly hit the table below. In this moment, all noise drowned away, and there was silence as the two siblings looked at each other. Thomas then grinned and nodded his head. Benji felt a wave of relief as he found his way to the Ravenclaw table. The pit in his stomach remained, but feeling a sense of approval from Thomas helped. He still had Lettie. Her turn would be coming up soon.

Benji joined the house table and was met with warm welcomes and introductions from his new classmates. Benji looked across the table at other first year students and eagerly awaited for the sorting to conclude, when he could then explore the Ravenclaw common room and begin making his own memories of Hogwarts, a new place to call his home for the next year to come.

Vivian found a hard time sitting still in her seat even before the ceremony has started. Seeing so much magic in the hall kept her quite busy though from looking at the paintings, the ghosts, and even the candles kept her attention well enough. Even in her home with her mother being a witch she had never been in a room with so much activity. She couldn't help but feel nervous as she kept fiddling in her seat. As she tried resorting to looking around the room again she nearly jumped out of her seat seeing one of the more 'playful' ghosts jumped out from under the ground next to her. Breathing quickly she kept her eyes on the table again as to not have any more of that happen.

Looking down at the wood of the table she sighed gently thinking about how the year would go, and of course what house she would be sorted in. Vivian's Mother had many years ago gone to Hogwarts too, but she never heard any stories from her about her time here. Her Mother being a Hufflepuff is all she knew from when she had found the robes in her Mothers closet. Vivian wished she had asked more questions now as she felt overwhelmed.

That is until they all had to stand up to get sorted.

With the familiar twinge of fear as she and the other first years stood up it was hard to not just flop back down onto her chair. Still with the talking hat and all getting up and walking with the rest became fairly easy.

As it turned out though watching people being sorted makes it harder not just want to flake out. She almost started chewing on her nails again, but she knew that the teachers and headmaster were watching, and there was no way she would want them to possibly judge her on that. When it finally came to her turn to sit down and be sorted she practically jolted out to the hat. Sitting she could barely even hear the sorting hat speak over her heartbeat. That is until she heard it's voice more clear than glass as it yells out.

"Ravenclaw!"

Widening her eyes she looked up only with her eyes before having the hat taken away and the table of Ravenclaws stand and cheer. Giddy she smiled and stood up walking over to her table finding an open spot and sitting. Looking back up now with another student sitting on the stool, she smiled. She had found her people. Now to get through the rest of the year.

Standing with the group of new students waiting to be sorted, Mikayla couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed. Her dad had tried to explain the ceremony as best he could, having never been apart of it himself, and all the explanations in the world wouldn't have been able to prepare her. With an intensity that surprised even herself, Mikayla watched the first couple students become sorted into one of the four houses. The process was a bit peculiar, what with the giant hat reading everything about them to make a decision that would last for the next seven years of their lives.

She had been so focused on the process itself, that the sound of her name startled her. It took more effort than it should have to place one foot in front of the other and walk over to the sorting hat. She made it all the way to the stool, bracing herself before sitting down on the hard wood surface. The hat was placed delicately over head, so big that it covered most of her face. All the preparation in the world also could not have prepared her for the voice she heard, clear as a bell.

"What an interesting mind. Ambitious, longing to prove yourself, but also a hint of reservation," Mikayla started at the words, wondering how this thing could read her so clearly when it was so hard for her to even understand herself and what she was feeling. Mikayla squeezed her eyes shut, wondering when the hat would finally make the decision that seemed to be lasting a lifetime, instead of just a couple of seconds.

"Slytherin!"

Mikaylaa exhaled, the sounds around her seemed muffled as she hopped off the stool and looked for the green color that would indicate where she now belonged. She turned to where the cheers seemed to be the loudest, and saw what seemed like hundreds of happy, smiling faces. Mikayla started making her way over, already planning the letter she was going to send her dad in her head. He would be proud, no matter where she went, so she wasn't too worried about that. What she was worried about was making friends and fitting in in this completely new place.

Robert was not anxious during the ceremony. He knew where he belonged and so did the hat. Looking around the room, he could spot the other students talking to each other, worrying about the House they were going to get sorted into. "Robert Bush!". He was next. Walking steadily and not showing any emotions he sat on the chair and the sorting hat was placed on his head.

"Oh, Mr. Bush.", the hat whispered, "It's been some time since the last member of your family was sitting right on this chair. It was your mom and dad if I remember right, yes?". Robert nodded. "It appears that you already know which House you want to be put in. You'll become a great wizard one day and your parents will be proud of you. Make sure to use the power you will acquire wisely.", the hat concluded. "SLYTHERIN!". Robert stood up to a resounding sound of applause from the Slytherin table. As he was walking towards it a big grin was painted on his face.

Either I will find a way or I will make one.

Until now the only glimpses of the magical world and Hogwarts grandeur came through the storytelling and ramblings of Alice's adoptive father, Bron Stormblood.  In all honesty Alice had begun to wonder how many of these stories were accurate accounts or fabricated exaggerations.  As the emerald eyed youth stepped into that grand hall of majesty of majesty and light she found her father's stories to be completely undersold.  Never had she seen so many witches and wizards all in one place.  Their numbers seemed as infinite as the tables they sat.  It was overwhelming to say the least.

Alice wanted to slide silently through her peers with a nimble backpedal and vanish into those hallowed Hogwarts halls.  She would rather explore this incredible place independently of the crowd.  Alice was one that enjoyed her solitude and revolted the clamor of the masses.  However, she knew what came next.  The sorting hat.  Bron had told her of the process.  It wasn't standing in front of the entire school that bothered her.  Timid shyness was not her shortcoming.  Rather, having some raggedy old hat peer into the inner workings of her mind and judge whatever it found was what put her on edge. What could the hat possibly decide for her to be? A slytherin snob or a Gryffindor suck-up? Perhaps a Ravenclaw mental case or the dreaded Hufflepuff goody two-shoes.  There simply was no winning.

After what felt like an eternity of names, delegations, and jeering applause Alice finally heard that dreaded summons. "Alice Stormblood?!" Boomed some unplaced voice.  With a grunted sigh Alice sauntered between the tables and to the front.  Despite her age Alice was comparatively taller than most of her peers with a thin frame and long limbs.  Her hair, which changed as wildly as the weather, was short and blond withe streaks of crimson red spiking wildly.  Once before the school Alice couldn't help delivering a sarcastic lazy salute to the long table of famed wizards and professors before dropping into the warmed seat and having the hat placed upon her, hands raised towards her peers as the devil horns of rock and roll.

"Oh, what's this?  There's a nasty streak in here, Alice...." The groggy hat grumbled.  All the while Alice maintaining a face of displeasure.  "But tenacity and cunning... Slytherin could do you well.  Then again... a ferocious fearlessness... more caring for others than you'd like to admit.. where would you like to go, hmm?"  The young witch rolled her eyes. "Azkaban." She sighed.  Alice could swear she heard a mild chuckle from the hat, or perhaps that was just wishful thinking. "There may be a lion in you yet, Ms. Stormblood." The hat continued before thundering to the hall. "GRYFFINDOR!"

Alice seemed taken back by the sudden proclamation.  Just like that her sorting was complete and the hat removed.  The stool she was so eager to be out of just moments before now felt like a newfound comfort zone compared to the long table of cheering house-mates.  The witch jumped to her feet and with a half-smile struggling to be restrained stepped to her new family.

Even in the material world, you will find that if you look for the light, you can often find it. But if you look for the dark, that is all you will ever see.
