Swinging his broom off his shoulder, the boy gave the Silver Arrow a little twirl. Pulling the broom into a readied position, Jack just gave a grin to Towers, "You can try to win, but I honestly doubt it, little girl."

They were off, students upon brooms transformed into streaks of citrine and sapphire as they shot forth from the starting line. All except for two, that was. Perhaps stage fright had taken hold of Winter Wolfhartz, for the dhampir did not move, instead she clung to her broom at the starting line while her companions and opponents both sped off toward the course. Clair Fernandez on the other hand had a far more obvious goal in mind. The Ravenclaw sat perched upon her broom, an improvised projectile in her hands. Where she managed to gather the rock from was anybody’s guess but she took the opportunity to lob it at the other girl. An interesting sight to be sure, two racers electing not to race, and one choosing to instead hit the other girl with a stone.

The goal of the other students was clear. Get as far along the course as one could without falling to the ground below. And to that event, they soared. Bodies sped toward the outcrop of trees, and then through the branches, the ancient oaks and pines proving no match for the allegedly nimble students, only a minor scrape upon Emily proving the difference.

It was only as the trees began to constrict, their branches and roots growing closer together did some of the younger students begin to have trouble with maneuvering through the wood. Avery Gallows, the Hufflepuff captain, was unfortunate enough to catch a branch to the face. Whilst an honest effort could not save Victoria Honest from scraping her arms up against rough bark. Similarly, scrapes could not be avoided by Jack Warren, Simon Kincaid or Emily Brewer. Their speed rendering them too fast to dodge. Yet all the students pressed onward with both Ari Gwild and Lin Evanvleck falling behind after clearing the trees.

The remainder of the pack broke out of the trees and crossed the field as set, only to be set upon by harsh winds. Desperately, the students were forced to cling harder to their broomsticks, lest they be cast asunder. To quote the noted muggle poet Katheryn Hudson, they were like plastic bags drifting through the wind. Yet, they remained steadfast, daring not fall.

As the field spread out, only Serena Towers, Jack Warren and Emily Brewer remained in the lead. The sole Ravenclaw keeping pace with her older rivals, even as the wind strengthened. She pressed on, daring not lose herself to the wind. The armored Serena Towers kept pace, her grip tight around the shaft of her broomstick. However, out of the corner of her eye she could not help but see something peculiar. Jack Warren could not endure the wind, a particularly strong gust, or perhaps old-fashioned butter fingers, but the boy was thrown from his broom. In an instant, Serena was there, catching the boy and hoisting him onto her own broom.

Winter had gotten all set she was wearing all of the safety gear that had been provided, she was nervous but knew she could do this if she gave it her all! She watched as her fellow teammates readied themselves and so she did the same.

She mounted her broom and looked around with a grin as she awaited the signal. She let out a deep breath as her eyes fixated on what was ahead of her, focusing. It was in no time that she heard the signal and she did just as the others on her team had and she lifted off the ground and flew like a dart.

Emily raised into the air. Flying towards. She looked around to keep an eye on her team but also on the opposite team. She took a good grip onto her broom to secure her safety. It was her first game, and if she'd play like a hero? She definitely knew that would not happen, but at least she could try to make it to the best of her ability. The moment she had taken a good grip on her broom, she felt the wind loading towards the racers, she grabbed her broom extra tightly when the wind passed by, right through the branches of some trees, she never thought she'd make it with some scratches hell yea, she got through it!

She had never expected to be able to save herself from this wind, but she did. With a big smile on her face, she continued the race, trying her best as hard as she could

There did not appear to be a huge number of Hufflepuff supporters in the crowd. But she was quite enjoying the kind of hilarious number of fangirls @Simon Kincaid seemed to have gathered. Well then. "Looks like you better win this for the fans," She teased Simon with a grin on her face as she heard his name being screamed by several. It was pretty great.

"When you crack your skull on a frickin' tree, don't come crying to me then," Serena responded, grumbling slightly towards @Jack Warren in response to the lack of a helmet. Of course, he thought helmets were dumb! Aye aye aye, all of these students needed to learn how to put safety first. But Jack was not the type to listen to her.

She narrowed her eyes as soon as she heard his words. Did he just call her a little girl?! The boy was like two years younger than her! The outrage! Now it was fighting time. She had to wipe that cocky grin off his face! What a little punk! Turning to focus on the race, she straightened her broom. It was fighting time. She had an arrogant little punk to beat.

Leaning forward, she immediately set off as soon as they were told to go. With a lot of luck and maybe a little bit of skill, she managed to get through most of the obstacles without much trouble. The same could not necessarily be said for her teammates. Serena frowned as she noticed a few getting hit by the opposing team or the environment. She could not watch them all but she was definitely watching Jack. After all, she had to beat him in this bet! He had called her a little girl!

As though by karma, she watched the badger fall off his broom. Swooping in, she grabbed him, roughly hoisting him onto the back of her own before quickly recomposing herself to hold her broom, "You were saying, little boy?" She asked him, being equally as patronising in return! She smirked a little, pleased that he was not hurt but still - the wind managed to knock him off right after his cocky words! It was kind of amusing.

Victoria decided to ignore the scrapes on her arm, adjusted her pace and was in no hurry, just doing her best. "Okay, take your time," Victoria muttered to herself. She was doing well, she really wanted Ravenclaw to win. She calmed herself and focused on the obstacles. She had confidence in her team and in herself, they could do it.

The captain grimaces as sharp branches scrape against her arms, digging deep and causing beads of blood to surface on her skin. Willing her broom forward, Avery makes a mental note to clean the wound when the race is gone, dead and buried. She lets out a guttural breath as the race continues, go.

With both hands clutching her broom, Lin squinted at the wind. She was used to the cold, but it was January, it was starting to snow and Lin and Ari were fighting the wind.
But Lin wanted to win this race. For her, for Sophie, for all her sisters, for Juni, for Cap'tain Ranvier. So she was going to win. That was a promise.

The course was proving to be as challenging as Ari expected. But as he weaved through the obstacles, he felt a smile play on his lips. He was doing well, and proving to anyone who doubted him that he definitely had some degree of skill. He was proud of his effort.
He was also very proud of his teammates. They were doing their best, which was all anyone could do, but they were doing well. He had all the faith in the world in them.
He made eye contact with Lin, who stayed behind with him, then gave her a serious nod. Even if they didn't win this, he would still be sure to throw a party for his teammates for their efforts out here today.
