Gemima leaned out the window and waved as hard as she could. Cath whooped loudly behind her. “Hogwarts, here we come, baby!”
Back on the platform, their mother got smaller and smaller, but Gemima kept on waving until she was out of sight. Cath jumped down from the window and raked a hand through her pink mop, making it even messier than usual. She cracked open the compartment door. “I’m going to find my friends,” she said over her shoulder. She cocked an eyebrow at her little sister.
“You’ll be okay in here?”It was really more of a statement than a question. Gemima felt panic seeping into her senses.
No! She wanted to say. Don’t leave me all alone! But she smiled and nodded. Best not to burden anyone. Cath grinned back and saluted her. The door slid shut, and her sister’s footsteps faded into the hallway.
Gemima immediately started yanking bobby pins out of her hair. Little by little, her bun came undone, and she sighed in relief as her long, black hair cascaded around her shoulders. Why her mother had done it up so tight was beyond her. She climbed onto a cushioned seat and sat there for a spell, taking in her new surroundings. The compartment was impressive, with red velvet seats, warm wood panels, and ornate looking metalwork on the door and windows. Small cupboards were stationed above and below the seats. Gem slid her trunk into one. It fit like a glove. She plopped down next to it on the floor. There were no sounds except for the ka-clunk, ka-clunk, ka-clunk of the train moving along the tracks.
She closed her eyes and felt the vibrations go pinging through her fingers. With each bump of the train, she felt herself beginning to calm down. "This isn't so bad," she said to the empty compartment. "At least I can read for the rest of the ride."
She had of course brought a large stack of books from home. She scooted over to where her trunk was and lifted the lid. "They've got to be in here somewhere..." she hummed, thumbing through its contents. "Aha!" She triumphantly extracted her copy of Hogwarts, A History, then wriggled back up onto a seat for some light reading--
The compartment door slid back open with a clang. Gemima yelped and tumbled onto the carpet in fright.

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

Winter had been ready once more to return to her beloved Hogwarts home, she missed all her friends and was prepared to make more! It wasn't too good of a day, her aunt once more hadn't shown up to accompany her to the platform but thankfully her cousin Alex and butler Alfred were.. as always. She stepped onto the train after saying her 'goodbye' and 'love you' sentences, it was like usual.

The white-haired wonder made her way onto the train, waving goodbye once more before heading down the narrow hallway. Most seats were full and others were just too crowded with people she hadn't known. After a bit of walking and quite a lot of being pushed out of the way, she found a compartment with only one person a young girl who seemed to be a first year. It was obvious Winter had scared the poor girl if not shocked her, being she crashed onto the carpeted floor. "O-oh.. I apologize I didn't mean to frighten you..." her voice was soft and quiet as she pulled off the hood of her red cloak to show her face.
Once more Winter had got pushed out of the way as she almost joined the young girl on the carpet after stumbling from the sudden push. It truly was her fault for standing in the hallway instead of letting others pass to find their friends. "agh-" she groaned slightly before catching her balance and putting out a hand to help the girl up "W-winter wolfhartz.." she stated "that's my name..." her bright red eyes was accompanied by an awkward smile that showed her missing K9's.
After helping up the young brown-haired girl she brought a hand up to rub the back of her neck "they're quite reckless out there.. do you mind if I take a seat in here? I-I won't bother you!" she held her trunk at her side leaving the compartment door open until she had gotten her answer, she was prepared for rejection since it had happened many times before.

There's a person in here! Gemima thought wildly. Her cheeks pinked with embarrassment, but she shakily took the girl's hand and got to her feet. Her visitor was a bit taller than her, probably a second year. She was wearing an expensive looking red cloak around her shoulders. When she smiled, it looked like she was missing some teeth, but she had the prettiest hair Gem had ever seen. It was a glimmering white, almost silvery in the autumn sun, and it made her look like some sort of otherworldly fairy. The girl--Winter, asked her something, and Gemima realized with a start that she had been staring. Her face went even pinker as she tried to form a cohesive thought. She could practically hear her mother scolding her in her head. Gemima bit her lip nervously. The compartment was getting way too quiet. Say something, stupid!
"Sure!" Gemima said, way too loudly. She coughed and cleared her throat. "Sure, you can. I don't mind at all." She took a deep breath and climbed back up onto one of the seats, book on her lap. She tried to ignore the nerves thrumming under her skin. This was just someone who needed someplace to stay for the train ride. Winter was probably really nice! Everything was going to be fine.
"Uh, my name's Gemima, by the way..."

A small laugh escaped her mouth as she saw the first-year stumble in embarrassment "thank you.." she was a bit more confident about speaking now since the girl too seemed to be shy as she was herself. She slipped off her cloak and folded it in half before placing it on the compartment seat next to where she had decided to sit.

She lugged her trunk further in before lifting it above her head and placing it into the cupboards above the seats. Winter watched as the youngster looked at winter "I must look odd to you.. right?" she wasn't worried about being seen as different but sure she looked off from what the other students had. well, that was after all because she was none other than a non-human.
Winter was one of the only dhampirs in Hogwarts as she had learned from a friend of hers. "its fine I'm sure id think the same if our roles were switched.. I'm actually not human-" she explains with a small smile, her gaze wandering to the window "I'm what people call a dhampir, part vampire" she shrugs "I-I hope that doesn't both you!" she quickly made eye contact once more, hoping the fact she wasn't human didn't scare her hopefully newfound friend.
"i-its nice to meet you Gemima"

Dhampir...
Gemima vaguely remembered reading about such a term, in a book a family friend had lent her. She looked back at Winter, even more enraptured than before. "I think that's really amazing, actually," she said slowly. Thankfully, her voice was a bit steadier now. "You've got something that makes you unique, y'know? Not as strange as what I've seen before." Her mind was bubbling with questions, but she pushed them back down. She didn't want to be rude again.
In fact, if it weren't for Winter's eyes, her simple hoodie and jeans would've told Gemima that she was a normal witch. She looked down at her own outfit and surpressed a groan. Mum had definitely overdressed her; she looked like a child model for Burberry or something. Her mind drifted to Cath, who had stepped out the house that morning in a band tee and ratty jeans. How lucky.
Gem sighed and turned back to her new aquaintance. She picked nervously at the hem of her dress. One or two questions wouldn't hurt, right? Winter probably got them all the time anyways, so yeah, it would be ok. Her curiosity was getting the better of her.
"Do you, uh, have any...vampire traits or tendencies?"

AAAACCCKKK!
Junhee yelped as she was pushed here and there, her overly large family somehow disappearing into the crowd. Junhee didn't even try to follow them, she knew that they would want to hang out with their friends and make Merry. Being homeschooled didn't give her a lot of opportunities to socialize.
Oh wellies, Junhee thought to herself, I'm going to miss my grandparents. Junhee was flat against the wall to avoid being pushed or squashed like a pancake. Everyone kind of looked like ants, which made Junhee laugh to herself.
Though still as stuffed as a Thanksgiving turkey, Junhee thought that maybe she could slide in between people to try to get into a compartment. It proved more difficult than she thought. Finally she felt the handle of a compartment and without hesitation or thinking she pulled it open, falling forward with a shove from behind. She caught herself with her right foot, and her glasses flew off, her hair a mess.
Dang it, she thought. Junhee looked up realizing the two blurred figures where two girls, and she walked in right in middle of a conversation. Junhee's nose, ears, and cheeks turned bright red. She bowed apologizing,
"SORRY!" She said slowly looking up. "I didn't mean to barge in, I was just trying to find a compartment. It's a jungle out there."
Junhee flashed a smile as she quickly picked up her glasses to see the two girls, they both looked around her age.
"Mind if I stay here?"

All of a sudden, the compartment door banged open again, and another girl stumbled inside. Her glasses flew off her face, skidding to a stop a little ways away from Gemima's seat. She picked herself up quickly, though. Gemima took in her new acquaintance, who was now bowing and apologizing profusely. She looked about Gem's age, with fluffy, messy dark hair that reminded her of Cath's. The girl was blushing red in embarrassment. She recovered her glasses and jammed them back onto her face. Gemima fondly (read: not so fondly) remembered her own tumble a few minutes before. Mishaps like that seemed to be becoming the theme for the train ride.
"Mind if I stay here?"asked the girl, smiling at them.
"S-sure," Gemima replied, sneaking a glance at Winter. "That's, uh, fine with me." Her voice was all quiet and shaky again. So frustrating! All her confidence from just moments before had disappeared into thin air, and her stomach was in knots. Her fingers curled tightly around the spine of her book. How much she wished she could just read it alone...
Come on, she reminded herself. You can do this! Fresh start, remember? She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down.
Oh, right.
"I'm Gemima, by the way."

Junhee sighed in relief she had no idea what to do if she had to go back out their with those wild animals. Junhee shut the compartment door, and skunk into the seat next to the shy girl but all the way across. She could tell she was nervous, she had long pretty dark brown hair that hung around her face, she was scrawny much like herself. She was dressed like a doll, which she guessed was her mother's doing. Quite different than the oversized plain clothing Junhee was wearing. But the girl was none the less still pretty, taking a glance at the girl who sat silent across, her eyes shone blood red, they were piercing and gave an uneasy feeling. But Junhee wasn't the judging type, the girl also had beautiful hair that was long and snow white.
Both their hair was nothing like the curly mop on her head she called hair.
"Nice to meet you Gemima, I'm Junhee," Junhee smiled readjusting her glasses.
"a-and I'm winter, it's a pleasure to meet you Junhee! may I just add you are quite pretty" a smile grew on Winter's face, and Junhee exchanged the smile.
"Thank you, you are as well," Junhee smiled a little shy after being complimented.

Junhee couldn't be happier, who knew she would get the two kindest students in all of Hogwarts in the same compartment as her? They were shy, but they were welcoming none the less, what her aunts and uncles described could not touch what the reality was. The train was magnificent, the passing trees and rolling hills outside were none the less beautiful. It was different than home but she loved it, she was hoping one day she would be able to live in the calming country-side. It really was a blessing, but there was one thing she realised she hadn't at all seen yet, one of the best parts of the whole train ride! THE FOOOD! Her uncle Ariel, said they had such a variety of them, ice mice, lemon drops, chocolate frogs, bernie botts beans, jelly slugs, and more. Junhee couldn't HELP but feel hungry.
This all ran through her head, Junhee was barely seated when the door opened to show a young woman pushing a cart of overflowing with treats.
"Would you like any?" She asked kindly.
"Yes, PLEASE," Junhee said immediately digging in her large pockets for money she took a glance at the two girls and said,
"I'm a sucker for the fudge flies! So, what snacks do you guys like? I'm buying!" She smiled.

Junhee had just sat down next to Gemima when there was a soft jingling at the door. The compartment door slid open yet again (What now?? thought Gem) and there stood a lady with a trolley full of sweets. Gemima's eyes sparkled. Cath had told her about the trolley witch! This was her sister's favorite part of the whole train ride. Gem eagerly scanned the bounty of sugar. It might just turn out to be her favorite, too.
"I'm buying!" Junhee exclaimed, hands already deep in her pockets.
"Sugar Quills and Ice Mice, please." Gemima said, without hesitation. Her taste in candy was sometimes, as Cath would say, "Basic as hell", but it was good enough for her. She was thankful that Junhee had offered to pay. First, it was very kind of her, and her mother had always taught her to accept kindness like that, but also, she had buried her money pouch in the bottom of her trunk earlier that morning. She'd honestly forgotten about the candy offered here, and going to retrieve it now would just be awkward. So she sat back and waited instead. The trolley witch beamed and began sorting through her wares for their desired treats.
