The lessons had finally restarted, now Hildegard was walking with two crutches as her walking difficulties deepened.
That day there was snow outside but it was sunny, the Christmas atmosphere had gone away, and the class was pretty silent, probably due to the fact school had barely started back.
Hildegard was wearing the earmuffs she had gotten during the Yule celebration and was listening to the teacher, without focusing too much about the lesson.

-Why is transfiguration so boring ? On paper it sound so fun but it's just... I think mister Wade doesn't do a good job making his class interesting... The girl thought to herself.

As she was inside her own world she got paired with another student, one she did not really know, called Victoria Asminy Honest.
Hildegard got closer to her in order for them to work on Reparifarge, she did not really feel like fully concentrating on the given task so while she was practicing she decided to a little chitchat with the girl.
Victoria seemed foreign like Hildegard, apart from that the girl did not really stand out much to Hilda's eyes.

-Hey do you like transfiguration ? I'm not sure if I hate it because of Wade or because of the subject itself. The disabled girl confessed while trying Reparigarge on a transfigured teddy bear.

Victoria entered the first class of the new year without any real excitement. Victoria looked out the window. The weather was snowy and not very cold. Victoria really wanted to be outside instead of class. Victoria entered the transfiguration class and pulled out her sketchbook and decided to paint instead of listening to the teacher.

Victoria heard that painting would be a match for the lesson. She paused her picture and listened to who she would match. She paired up with a Slytherin girl named Hildegard, whom she never knew.

-Hey do you like transfiguration ? I'm not sure if I hate it because of Wade or because of the subject itself.

Victoria smiled at that. "Actually, this topic is so boring. To tell the truth, I never even listened. Transfiguration is fun, but right now I prefer to be outside."

Having said this, Victoria studied the girl. The girl was really beautiful, but she was carrying two crutches. Victoria shrugged, not seeing this as a shortcoming.

Victoria focused on the teddy bear, watching Hildegard's movements. To start the topic, "Are there any lessons you like? Frankly, it depends on the topic for me." Victoria focused on the teddy bear again, waiting for an answer from the girl.

This topic was boring ? Hildegard thought so too, why would they learn to untransfigurate things ? They would be transfigured that way in the first place for a reason after all.
The Slytherin girl nodded her head in agreement,

-Yeah the topic play an important part, I mean I would not say no in learning how to turn anything into a chocolate frog. Schneider replied.

This Victoria sounded like a good match to just have a casual conversation during class so Hilda smiled at her.

-I love the charm class, miss Fresnel is the best ! She explain well and is not too severe with her grading unlike Wade and his stupid American way of teaching. She whispered to make sure the teacher would not hear her.

-Are you sure ? I mean I am confident that a bad teacher can always make a good topic boring. I get that it can be hard to make it interesting to everyone but for example often when discussing history of magic we get reference to muggle stuff like fairy tales, I know nothing about it so I am just thrown out of the topic. Hilda complained.

-What kind of topics are you interested in ? I just like useful spells and potions The girl asked.

While discussing Hildegard was practicing the spell, failing a few time as she was not putting any concentration in the spells casted.

Victoria agreed with this thought. "Yes, no matter how good the subject is, if the teacher is boring, the subject is meaningless." Victoria was happy to find someone who thought the same way.

-What kind of topics are you interested in ? I just like useful spells and potions

Victoria thought for a moment. "I'm interested in plants and space. Frankly, I hate history." After a moment's hesitation, Victoria continued. "Also I agree with you, useful talismans and potions are the most important, why do we learn things that are of no use to us?" she asked. "For example, we haven't done fortune telling yet, but I don't think it will interest me, the teacher is good, maybe I can do it."

Victoria continued. "Most people say it's a mistake being in Ravenclaw, I'm not very good at classes." Victoria chuckled at the thought. "Do you feel like you belong in your building?" While waiting for an answer, Victoria managed to transform the teddy bear in front of her into another object and sat back.

What Victoria had to say was really interesting on Hilda's mind, she could see how she was a Ravenclaw.
At the start of the year she considered Ravenclaw to be the house of smart people, however upon meeting a few of them she understood that it was not necessarily true.
It was not that they were smart, it was something else, something the disabled girl could not put her finger into.

-I used to think people in Ravenclaw were smart, but upon meeting a few of them I think that it's not exactly what define them, I can't tell for certain what define them tho, I am sorry I can't help in that regard. Hildegard replied.

- Well I think I should be a Slytherin, if I had to sort myself I would put myself where I am, out of elimination. Schneider admitted.

-Oh by the way ! Have you heard of the Space Chamber in the Department of Mysteries ? They study space in there, I heard they have planets replica floating around and that you can fly without a broom in there ! I am not specifically a fan of astrology but this place really make me want to get more into it !
Hildegard told Victoria.

-Do you think that there is other magical plants on the other planets ?That sound really exciting to think about ! Maybe there is other wizards too and other types of magic ? She ended up asking.

For a wizard getting up there in his years, Atticus's hearing was actually still quite intact for someone his age. Changing from group to group, mostly undoing the damage they'd done, was a distinctly common part of his teaching style and typically Atticus was alright with a bit of chatter among his students during this time, as young minds often needed to compare and contrast the results of their spell casting experimentations. Discovery was frequently a conversation between peers. One duo however seemed more particularly interested in discussing their opinions than sharing anything of substantial reason. Openly and without the proper respect for their professor one might add.
"Hey do you like transfiguration ? I'm not sure if I hate it because of Wade or because of the subject itself."
It was a hurtful thing for her to say, but twice as hurtful a thing for him to have to hear. If he could have, he'd have asked them both to take what was coming back, but here he was teaching practical life skills that would no doubt be needed on a daily basis. Given the other spells they had access to in their first year they had likely become desensitized into thinking him boring and dull for teaching them how to undo such things. Atticus disliked the ignorance these kinds of conversations led to greatly, that and politics in most senses of the word, but then he had already learned that sometimes quietly observing others' perspectives was his best course of action. After eavesdropping their chatter for a few more moments, it seemed the two were figuratively trapped in a bubble of their own design.
"Actually, this topic is so boring. To tell the truth, I never even listened. Transfiguration is fun, but right now I prefer to be outside."
Ah yes, well he sort of would have also preferred them to be outside in this moment. If anything, Miss Honest's desires felt entirely relatable. He would struggle to find the right words to let them know just how much they had hurt him, but for now he continued to listen on. If either of them had the maturity to stop so they consider the words coming out of their mouths then perhaps wouldn't have thought it necessary to eventually step in. That was just his hypothesis of course. Another hypothesis was that perhaps this example of disrespect could have been avoided by creatively using their attention to transform the hot air filling the insides of their heads into something more useful, like knowledge, mind-over-matter style. Atticus didn't state either hypothesis however, so his author instead had him watch on bemused, much like one does when they see a car crash but just can't pry themselves to look away. This discourse only served to break Atticus's heart further and further.
"I love the charm class, miss Fresnel is the best ! She explain well and is not too severe with her grading unlike Wade and his stupid American way of teaching."
Bigotry would be added to the invisible list of offenses overheard as Atticus listened on.

Atticus also thought Miss Fresnel to be a wonderful teacher. They had even planned a lecture together! It was this kind of working relationship that had helped him to find the fun in his retirement. So instead of anger, he was almost overcome with a powerful urge to laugh. Not because his "stupid american way of teaching" was a funny thing to say but because this was actually Hogwarts's mandatory method of teaching. There was, of course, no potion (nor spell sadly) to cure any type of ignorance, but instead it was a lesson which required humility, comfortability, charm, and wit in equal measures to teach. Resources which their professor had a hard time conjuring. Doubly so for those who paid little to no attention before passing judgement so swiftly. Still, he kept on listening.
"Also I agree with you, useful talismans and potions are the most important, why do we learn things that are of no use to us?"
Perhaps now they would be more interested to hear his opinion on public education, since he had been polite enough to listen to theirs.

"Well, Miss Honest," Atticus would politely interject taking careful measure to speak over Miss Schneider's response, "If I may be so rude as to interrupt your chat, I can answer your questions pretty easily. This subject, Transfiguration, is one of the few milestones you will need to master if you have any interest in surviving the wizarding world post-graduation." He would smile softly and invite them both to the front of class with a wave of his wand, the other students and their desks moving out of the way as the duo's seats rapidly approached critical proximity to the mustachioed professor responsible for teaching them how to make the impossible a reality.

"There are many examples of useless knowledge: Which potion can turn your tongue blue, how to tie a thief knot, that fact that no number between zero and nine-hundred and ninety-nine includes the letter a in written form. Not to mention the eighty different hues and shades colored sparks you can shoot. I say this all because I could hear the two of you referring to the science behind properly visualizing a transformation as useless. So I would like to counter, perhaps we should consider the possibility that it is the two of you who lack imagination and not I who needs to show you more creativity."

He would pause, dramatically raising an eyebrow to encourage their silence and understanding.

Leveling his wand out, he incanted and turned one arm into a claw, then again with a swish into a tentacle, then once more into something completely unintelligible, the stack of transformations having warped his limb beyond their limited adolescent recognition. "Would either of you care to wager that you already know what to do if a wizard transformed you into something this horrible? Or is this something perhaps you hadn't seen before? How is it exactly that one can revert something if one is incapable of recognizing it?" Another flick of his wand and the transformation was undone, his form unharmed. "Or perhaps you both find concentration too dull? Instead, maybe you could enlighten me as to how we should go about stopping the effects of a curse as it begins to turn your brains to gelatin?"

He would raise the other eyebrow just as dramatically as the first.

Not all of magic needed to be grim to be interesting. Not every mind needed to work the same way, but it was better to learn how to be receptive to new ideas now rather than letting the ignorance ferment like a pickle saved for later. "Of course, I will acknowledge that there are less than absolutely critical theories and spells for us to learn along the way. These impractical ones are meant to open your young minds to the possibility of discovering something new however. You never know, you might just be the witches and wizards who discover something entirely unthought of. Until then I'm inclined to believe you both need some individualized attention."

Atticus would dismiss the other students, reminding them to do their homework lest they fall behind in their studies. The scope of which would take them the next six years to master before they could even think of achieving graduation. Sitting down behind his desk, Atticus looked up at them disappointedly, all too conscious of how his next words would have served him better had they been delivered to him in the prime of his youth. The crimson of his kerchief would then wipe the corners of his mouth after taking a sip of his tea.

"You two are more than welcome to go outside and play with your friends, but I challenge you both to concentrate on being more considerate. Please think of how your words might affect others." If they considered him less than interesting, that was their right, and according to his "American methods," they would both be receiving a more than generous serving of forgiveness. "Now run along before I change my mind and put you both in detention for showing such disrespect."

@Atticus Wade@Hildegard Schneider
Professor Wade was interrupted as Victoria was about to answer Hildegard's question.

"Well, Miss Honest." "If I'm rude enough to interrupt your speech, I can easily answer your questions. This Transfiguration is a few milestones you need to master if you're interested in surviving the wizarding world after graduation."

Victoria was embarrassed and felt bad. When Professor Wade talked about the benefits of the lesson, Victoria knew she was wrong.

"You can both go out and play with your friends, but I invite you both to concentrate on being more thoughtful. Please consider how your words might affect others."

Victoria was very happy that at least she was not punished. But she couldn't relax, she.

"Now go before I change my mind and arrest both of you for this disrespect."

"Sorry Professor Wade, what I said about your lecture was rude," Victoria said calmly. Victoria continued. "I guess I should be punished for my disrespect. You can punish me any way you want, you're right about that." Victoria really regretted it. When She put herself in the professor's shoes, what she said could really break your heart, she.

Victoria shot the professor a guilty look and apologized again, showing her embarrassment. "I'm sorry for myself again."

I just want to be myself.

Hilda did not expect the teacher to have heard their conversation, how much of it was heard ? From what she could guess from his replies probably all.
She would have never said that about Wade, if she knew that him of all people would have heard it.
The girl had to admit that she was careless, she did not admit to herself that she was careless to have said that, she admitted that she was careless saying it in a place he could have heard it.
And she regretted it, not a regret due to empathy like Victoria seemed to have embraced, but regret due to her public punishment, being exposed and somehow humiliated in front of the class.

-Miss Fresnel would never have done that ! The disabled girl thought while getting reprimanded.

As the teacher spoke she made signs of agreement all while internally replying to everything he was saying.

-No wizard is going do that, first of I won't be an Auror, so the chance that this happen is very short, second of all if a wizard really had bad intends against me he would certainly not use transfiguration, more like an hex or a jinx, and thirdly even if they do I would have gone to a nurse or something.

- We find concentration too dull ?No I find it annoying to have to learn this atoms muggle stuff to do magic yes !

Individualized attention ? Really ?! Please no ! Anything but that !

When Wade offered them to leave, Hilda looked at the exit, then looked at the teacher and looked at Victoria.
Victoria's reply annoyed Hildegard a little, she believed it was exactly the kind of reply that might actually make him change his mind.

- I understand professor, I will be cautious with my word starting from now, the Slytherin said.

-Cautious not to get caught, she thought right after.

He was offering them to leave without any detention or punishment so Hildegard took her crutches and headed to the exit, hoping that Victoria's desire to get punish would not go into her own detriment.

Atticus would slowly look up from his paperwork to look Miss Honesty in the eye. It was a look that was two parts "why are you doing this to me" and one part "what the hell is wrong with you." He wouldn't give them the satisfaction of stooping to their level, and instead speak plainly his intentions. "I forgive you, but now I want you to get out of my classroom. Please show yourself the way." After motioning towards the door with his free hand, Atticus would return to his work, one-hundred percent intent on ignoring her until pigs learned to fly.

She had no reason to stick around as long as she had, just as they had had no reason to say those hurtful things about him and his classroom. If anything, he would use his years of experience sitting idly by for hours on end in the way only a masterful instructor could, to teach her a lesson in the respect of mutual silence. The room would fill with the stuff after he asked her to leave him be, and she would likely feel the weight of it if she attempted to provoke him any further. She would get no rise out of him. It wasn't that silence was a friend of his, the contrary was closer to truth.

It was that he preferred the company of silence to hers at this exact moment and there was nothing they could do about it.
