Compartment #15 Open

James could barely hold his excitement in. He was going to Hogwarts!!! Of course, only about a month ago he didn't even know magic existed, but that made it that much more exciting! Before now, James had never seen a live owl, especially one that delivered letters and were kept as pets, and he had never seen so many magical things in one place. Heck, he had never even ridden on a train before! James had been wishing for something magical all of his life, and it was finally here! It was just a bit heavier than he had originally expected...
James lugged his suitcases through the narrow passageways of the train, trying to avoid the other Hogwarts students that were fitting themselves into their own compartments. James was somewhat used to carrying around heavy cases, because he had played violin and trumpet in his Muggle school, so he had those carried around with him all the time then.
Finally, James managed to find an empty compartment, which made him feel lucky that he had gotten on the train so early. James slid the door open with some difficulty, but managed to slip inside and hoist his trunks up onto the overhead racks. Taking a deep breath he collapsed onto the seats, but quickly got back his stamina and excitement. His feet tapped the floor rapidly, not unlike Thumper from Bambi. James just couldn't wipe the smile off of his face. He looked out the window, and then back to his surroundings. He realized then he didn't really know what else to do, except hope that someone else would come in, and he'd be able to socialize.

As soon as Xailah had stepped on the Hogwarts Express, and waved goodbye to her family; she immediately knew she had made a mistake. She shouldn't be there, she didn't want to be there. She tried everything to prevent herself from going to Hogwarts- she hid every letter that she got from Hogwarts; she begged her parents not to send her to Hogwarts but they insisted that it would be a great experience, and a chance to meet new people.

So there she was, standing there with her umbrella in one hand, and her luggage in the other. She stood in the train aisle for a good amount of time (seemed like forever) processing everything that was happening- she wasn't sure how to feel about this anymore.
Pushing her way past a trolley she started to make her way to the compartments.

To her disappointment they were all taken. Except for one- Compartment 15; actually that wasn't entirely true- there was one person in that compartment. No people in a compartment was her preference, but one was better than five in a compartment. She quietly opened the sliding door. "Hallo there..." she purred. "I hope you don't mind me joining you, you see the other compartments are all full." She observed the blonde haired boy- she wondered what he was thinking about. Her golden eyes glowed from underneath the brim of her top hat, as she cocked her head to one side with silent curiosity.

James' wish came true. The compartment door slid open, and James looked up to see another student. This particular student looked a little different than James would have expected, but he didn't let that faze him.
"Hallo there..." she said, "I hope you don't mind me joining you, you see the other compartments are all full."
James jumped at the opportunity eagerly, but checked himself to make sure he didn't scare her or possibly anyone else away.
"Not at all, please do!" James said, smiling, gesturing to the seat opposite of him.
He managed to hold in most of his excitement at someone else magical talking to him. He had only really met two other students before now, and as this girl entered the compartment, James realized that he had only met witches, or girls so far. He brushed the thought off, marking it as not important, and only a temporary thing.
James watched the girl, taking in her features, like the dark hair, and the strangely golden eyes. Whoever this was, James was excited to get to know more about her. Maybe they would be best friends when they got to Hogwarts. James had heard that that often happened. Or maybe they would just stay acquaintances. Maybe they would end up in two different houses. James had been told briefly about the houses, and Hufflepuff intrigued him the most. He wondered which house this girl might like.
James decided to introduce himself, and waited until she sat down and got settled to say, "My name's James, by the way. What's yours?"

Xailah was amused to find that the blue-eyed boy hadn't shooed her away- not that he looked like the type that would. Frankly he didn't seem like he could shoo someone away- of course looks can be deceiving, so there was a chance that her assumption was wrong. The boy gestured to the seat across from him- giving Xailah permission to take a seat.

The boys excitement and positive energy, confused and startled Xailah, but she didn't allow herself to express that. She put her luggage out of sight, and set her umbrella down beside her.
"My name's James, by the way. What's yours?"
James...she wasn't going to forget this kid anytime soon, and it was better to make friends now; rather than enemies- the beginning of the school year was too soon to make enemies anyway. Xailah extended a gloved hand in a universal gesture- a handshake "My name is Xailah- you can call me Kitty, though." She gave him a lazy cats smile.

Raising an eyebrow, she then asked a question that was on her mind from the time she got on the train- "What...house are you hoping for?" That should strike some conversation. She the casually pushed up her glasses.

To James' delight, the girl sat down in the compartment in a seat opposite of James, and extended her hand, smiling.
"My name is Xailah-" she said, "You can call me Kitty, though."
James took the offered handshake, smiling back at her. It was nice to be meeting a new person, especially one that seemed interesting. James thought of the word 'interesting' because Xailah, or Kitty, had a pair of gloves and an umbrella, and seemed to have somewhat 'feline' features.
James liked the name Kitty, so he decided to stick with that one, also because he felt he would mispronounce her name Xalah, or Xaliah, or whatever it actually was. James mentally rested his case.
Kitty raised an eyebrow, which slightly confused James for a moment, before asking a question.
"What...house are you hoping for?" she asked. James felt glad that he was with someone who would easily provide one half of a conversation. He didn't much like it when he was the only one saying things and asking questions in a conversation.
James sat back in his seat, and put on a thoughtful look before shrugging lightly.
"I honestly don't know. I was raised Muggle, so all of this is rather new to me." he admitted. "Although, I will say the idea of Hufflepuff catches my attention."
"What about you?" he asked.

Quinn glanced around nervously, rather perturbed by her own lateness. If only she had gotten there earlier, she would have gotten dibs on a compartment to herself. Next year. The red head decided firmly to herself, glancing around. She knew stories of Hogwarts and rhis train from her mother when Quinn was young and just starting muggle school, but the memories were old and rather faint. Her father being a muggle was no help for her cause either.

Sighing, the young girl continued down the aisle, peering into compartments left and right in search of one that wasn't completely occupied.

"Hmm... I wonder if-" she never got to finish that sentence as she tumbled forward onto a compartment door, face being squished against the glass. Her trainers. They always came untied at the worst moment and she found herself turning bright red as she rushed into the closest door, attempting to avoid the eyes of those who peered after her.

Quinn closed her eyes and took a deep breath, attempting to regain her composure. It wasn't until she opened them once again that the young witch realized that the compartment already had two others.

"H-hi, I'm so sorry. Is there a seat open here?" She asked, her face flushing bright red from embarrassment and shame. They probably thought she was a weirdo but she was just nervous.

"I honestly don't know. I was raised Muggle, so all of this is rather new to me." he admitted. "Although, I will say the idea of Hufflepuff catches my attention."
"What about you?"

"Raised by muggles?!" James was raised by muggles! This sparked so many questions- Xailah was a pure-blood and new very little about muggle lifestyles and culture. Xailah had to hold off on those questions though, and respond to the current one. "Well...I suppose I'm hoping for Slytherin- or Ravenclaw! You see-" She never got to finish her sentence.

There was a sudden thump at the glass this startled Xailah, she instinctively took a protective stance. She looked up at a terrifying view- it was the smushed face of a monster! Oh- nope never mind, just a clumsy first year. Xailah slunk back into her seat, embarrassed at the way she reacted.

A redheaded girl opened the compartment and asked:
"H-hi, I'm so sorry. Is there a seat open here?"

Xailah looked over at James, and then turned back to the girl; "I don't have a problem with you sitting with us- as long as he's okay with it." She pointed at James, she figured that he would let this other girl sit with them.

“Raised by muggles?!” Kitty asked, with what seemed like excitement to James. “Well, I suppose I’m hoping for Slytherin- or Ravenclaw! You see-”
A sudden thump cut her off, and both Kitty and James jumped in surprise. James looked over to where the sound and come from, and James caught sight of a girl who had fallen against their compartment door. The red-haired girl entered and spoke to them.
"H-hi, I'm so sorry. Is there a seat open here?"
Kitty and James looked over at each other before Kitty answered the girl."I don't have a problem with you sitting with us- as long as he's okay with it." Kitty gestured to James as she said this, and James nodded.
“Yeah! Please go ahead and take a seat!” James exclaimed maybe a bit too enthusiastically. “I-if you want!” he added, not trying to sound eager for friends or anything. Well, he was eager to make friends, but he didn’t want to sound desperate or anything. “We were just talking about what houses we might want to be in.” he explained. “I’m James by the way! This is Kitty!” he said, gesturing towards her. He then realized Kitty might not want to be introduced by someone else other than herself, so James quickly tried his best to give her a chance to introduce herself somewhat…
“Well, at least, that’s her nickname. That’s what I call her.” he said, trying to give her an opening to say her own name.

"Thanks." She flushed a deeper red as they introduced themselves. John and Kitty. Kitty was an interesting nickname and the redhead was curious about its origins but decided not to press that particular topic at this moment, it could be a better question once they were fully acquainted.

"My name is Quinn." She introduced herself as she pulled her luggage closer to herself, stowing it in the overhead carefully before taking the open seat next to James closest to the compartment door. She took that moment to regard each of them momentarily.

James was taller than her and lanky with short dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. He seemed eager and excited and like he would probably make good company in the future. Redirecting her attention to the girl sitting across the small compartment, the girl who called herself kitty was pretty in her own way with her long black hair and smooth skin. She found herself a bit jealous of the unblemished and unfreckled face, the way Kitty's hair sat perfectly straight and flawless. These feelings only lasted for a brief moment and she realized there was an unnaturally long pause between the trio.

"Sorry for butting in... what houses are you wanting to get into? I'm hoping for Slytherin, like my mother." The young girl knew she shared more traits with her muggle father than her mother, but she could always hope at least.

Three people in a compartment- not too bad, Xailah wasn't starting to feel claustrophobic yet. Xailah watched as the curly haired red-head took a seat by James. James introduced the both of them, Xailah didn't mind, she just nodded. "Pleasure to meet your acquaintance Quinn! Like James said, you can call me Kitty, but my real name is Xailah." Xailah gave Quinn a reassuring smile; the red-heads name reminded her of one of the female antagonist in Batman- what was her name? Harley Quinn? She liked the name.

Shortly after Quinn had introduced herself, there was a long silence, but it was shortly broken by Quinn.
"Sorry for butting in... what houses are you wanting to get into? I'm hoping for Slytherin, like my mother."
Xailah mulled over that, she didn't know if she wanted to repeat herself or not- but she didn't want to be rude. "I'm hoping for Slytherin, or Ravenclaw- my whole bloodline has only had those two houses." Repeating that made so many worrying thoughts flood into Xailahs mind, it hadn't bothered her at first, but she now wondered if she wasn't going to get sorted into either of those houses.

She looked away for a moment and picked at a scratch on the window that she was sitting by, her eyes quickly lit up. "Oh look!" She sounded exited, as she pointed at some strange creatures that she saw through the window. What were they? Cows? Maybe- Xailah couldn't tell, the train was going a bit too fast. "James, Quinn what are those things?" She was now fixated with the seemingly blurry creatures.
