A Badger, a Lion, and a Small Gray Rat
Coming upon @Zara Wilkins at the Great Lake
It was after classes that Friday and Simon had originally been in his dormitory, finishing up the last bit of assignments he had. He liked to get them done quickly, so that he could enjoy his weekend carefree and not have them linger within his thoughts. The little rat had squeaked several times in an attempt to hurry him up.
Finally having finished, he now made his way out to the Grounds and toward the Lake, knowing it was one of the little guy's favorite places to be. "You're so stubborn," he grumbled to the rat, but was pretty sure that the rat didn't care. It was just happy to be going for some outside time.
He passed a few grounds of students on the grounds. One group was busy with wizard's chess, another talking while enjoying some candy, another group was running about in an impromptu game of tag. It was probably best that they were headed to the Lake at that time or else the gray rat runned the chance of being trampled!
When Simon finally got to the Lake there was a girl already there. "Hey, mind some company?" he asked as he sat his bag down on one of the tree stumps nearby that made a good surface for a tabletop or a place to sit down. "If you'd like to be left alone to your thoughts though, I don't mind. We can go elsewhere." Some people liked alone time to think and he didn't want to intrude.

Zara had been sitting alone most of the time, and she was shocked that someone had asked if Zara wanted company.
"No, please sit, nobody's ever asked me if I wanted company." Zara smiled. She flicked her hair out of her face and looked up she hadn't even looked up from her book, but she a very kind faced boy looking down on her.
"I'm Zara Wilkins a First Year, Gryffindor student, who are you?" Zara said and asked curiously. She was wearing a bright blue t-shirt with a knitted gold and red jumper she had made herself. With almost ripped blue jeans, and of course her favourite shoes. Her hair was down and frizzy. She loved her hair when it was frizzy, and now she was wearing her almost circular glasses but with a slight curve they were leopard coloured glasses.
She took her glasses off and smiled kindly to the boy. He looked a bit older then Zara, maybe a second year as Zara stood up she was the same height as they boy. She had always been tall for her age and was as thin as a stick even though she ate loads she burnt of her energy very quickly.
" You can sit you know." Zara giggled.

Introductions with @Zara Wilkins
"Thanks," he said, and smiled as the girl introduced herself. So often it seemed he was the one making the introductions and he didn't always really know if he was welcomed within someone's presence or not. He was a super nice guy, but he also liked to talk and he also liked to be around people. There were some people who actually didn't like talking much and didn't want to be around others. Zara didn't seem that type, and he was grateful for it.
"I've found I've got to look out for the Gryffindors," he said as he took the seat beside where she was and softly rested his bag down on the ground. The top flap of the messenger bag began to move a little as Rascal wanted out to explore.
"At least the girlfriend. She's got a bit of a temper at times," he glanced around to see if she was there, hiding somewhere. She didn't like it when he spoke about her temper but it wasn't HIS fault that she had one.
With one more thrust, the small gray rat was able to pop the top of the messenger bag and the canvas flew to the side. The movement caught Simon's attention and he leaned down, bringing the animal to his hands. "This is Rascal. Be warned that you're in the presence of royalty. He's also called the Prince of Hufflepuff."

"Don't worry about me, your girlfriend sounds strong and brave like a Gryffindor, but everyone has a temper sometimes." Zara said kindly and in a matter of fact tone.
The rat seemed to look very nice but Zara was really looking forward to getting her pet ferret she was saving up for she currently had 4 gold galleons, 15 silver sickles, and 7 bronze knuts.
"He certainly looks like royalty." Zara said in a posh voice, getting up and giving Rascal a deep bow.
Despite being a girl she had always been more of a tomboy. Zara was kind but sometimes she could get annoyed. But it rarely happened.
"You've introduced King Rascal, but who are you?" Zara began in a posh voice but finished in her normal kind voice.
Zara liked this boy quite a lot as a friend and she was hoping they would become close friends.
"I'm saving up for a ferret," Zara said sitting down, she had finally realised she had been standing up a long time studying the boy.
She had no idea what she would name the ferret when she got one. She was thinking Ali, Zoe, or Mablie. Zara was very excited to get up to 13 galleons despite only almost having 5 galleons.

"Ah, I am nothing but the lowly court jester," he said but smiled to her and set Rascal down so he could scurry about and sniff the area. He never wandered far and so Simon knew he would stay close by and out of any of the preying eyes of any of the school owls or other creatures that might be tempted by a small rodent.
"Simon. Simon Kincaid," he introduced himself to the girl with a smile, feeling rather foolish he didn't say that already. She did, after all, ask who he was - probably not really asking about the rat.
"Ferret would be cool," Simon said of her choice of a pet. "They're those weasel cat-like creatures right? Well, kind of cat-like only cooler than cats." Simon didn't suppose he had ever seen one up close. There were a couple students that had them but they often kept them in their dormitories.
So maybe he could think more along the lines of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, but no, wait, he was a mongoose. Close enough? Different name for same animal? And this, right here, was partially why he wasn't good with animals. He just didn't KNOW much about them.
Luckily though he and Rascal were getting by just fine.
"Won't be long before this Lake is frozen over. I neglected last year to bring my ice skates and even had to miss out on a big hockey game," which was a shame since he had played the sport since he was little. "Hope to at least get some skating in before Spring."

"It would be great to do ice skating." she said thoughtfully. Zara felt like she finally had a friend.
"I haven't seen the lake frozen yet." She said still deep in thoughts.
"Who's the girlfriend?" Zara asked curiously, now out of the thoughts looking at Simon.
Zara had firstly thought about getting a cat but she then decided a bunny or a ferret but she had asked her parents and they said, get a cat! Zara never really listened to her parents but they had recently split up over a pointless argument.
Tears welled in her beautiful eyes and they rolled down her cheeks. Realizing she wiped her eyes and rubbed the tears away laughing it off, embarassed.
"Sorry, it's just I've found it really hard since my parents split up, I don't really know why." Zara was now so embarassed and she looked at Simon expecting him to be laughing.
At home she was laughed at for showing emotion especially by her siblings.
"Um, sorry I'd um, err, better go uh, bye see you again." She said awkwardly, she walked away and was hoping that they would meet again. She was embarassed about crying in front of Simon, but she was happy as it was if she had gained a new friend.
