Feet in the Sand
Reluctantly following @Dan Palmer's lead
Simon stood up and shook his head. "You're really asking for the impossible here, Palmer," Simon said as he stood. They were near the edge of the lake so right now that bit of grass got a lot of moisture, leaving it nice and tender and soft.
"I mean, does it have to be for the ENTIRE rest of Summer Camp? I haven't got so much as more than twenty steps off of smooth hardwood flooring before. It's not like I'm adept to this nature stuff in general," but he began to follow Dan anyway.
Maybe Dan didn't understand how difficult this was for someone like Simon. He was a dhampir, and as such, he didn't take to outside very often - let alone without extra clothing, including shoes, outside. No, this was going to be quite a challenge, especially when they got away from the grass. Simon would try his best to be all cool and collected, because something told him that despite his thoughts on the matter, Dan Palmer didn't want to lift his dare. He wanted to show another how easy it was (whether it ACTUALLY was easy or not) to walk around without any sort of shoes at all.
"Maybe you're the only Hogwarts student destined to make it in the shoeless world."

Dan smirked. He was delighted to finally have a brother in barefootedness, even if it was just for the summer.
When simon asked if Dan would lift his dare, the smirk did not waver.
"Nah mate. Said barefooted the whole o' camp. And its stayin' thus. Ye'll get better at it, trust me. Just gotta be mindful'a where yer steppin'. Oh, and don't be bangin' yer toes on shite. That hurts like hell, it does. Just follow me, and ye'll be fine. You'll have the hang of it by camps end, ye can tickle me all ye like once if ya don't."
Dan led Simon along, moving somewhat close to the forest fringe, but far enough away that very few twigs could be blown on the ground in their way. There was no sense in bringing a greenhorn right up to the fringe other than abject cruelty. And Dan was not a cruel person.
"A'right. Gonna be a couple sticks here n there. Watch yerself, lad."
Sure enough, there were a couple of twigs. Dan deftly stepped around them like the practiced barefooting master he was. Sometimes stepping around, other times stepping on just the ball of his foot and his toes, narrowly avoiding the stick with his arch and heel.
"Are ye payin' attention, lad? Observin' the technique? Ye might develop yer own down the line, but this is a good starter, yeah?"

"It's a good starter," he agreed and smiled to the older boy. He still wasn't sure about this whole lifestyle but it was nice to meet someone new there at Summer Camp and Dan seemed to be an interesting person. He liked that he was unique and not afraid to be who he was. That took strength, that took bravery, that took confidence. Simon followed along, avoiding the small twigs here and there as they showed up upon the forest floor.Following @Dan Palmer
Surely this was much easier for Dan during the school year when he could remain indoors and on the floors in the corridors. "You're a great teacher, Dan. Maybe I'll have to teach you something in return someday. I can't say I'm an expert on much though..." Simon paused for a moment to think what he could possibly be capable of teaching.
"What that would be...well, I don't know. I'm pretty good with the ladies and uh, I'm good with music. I can play the piano and the guitar and I like to write my own songs." Was there anything else? "I think that's about it. I like reading too but you probably already got that down or you wouldn't be here, now would you? "
Simon wasn't a man of many talents. Maybe it was best he stay the student who gained the instruction.
