Adeline was feeling rough, and though she hated to admit it even silently in her mind, she knew that she would not last much longer in this match. Some small words of encouragement came to her from Katrina, and in spite of her body, which ached and begged for a brief moment of respite, she pushed on.

“Not giving up yet,” she said, unsure if she was speaking more to her teammate or herself.

If she was going down, she might as well go down swinging.

The Ravenclaws success had bolstered them, and they carried themselves with a new confidence as the duel continued on. There was a clear target on Adeline, the girl who had just barely remained on her feet moments ago, and who very well may have been shaken. Her body was aching, as the realization was setting in that she could only last so long in this match. Perhaps it showed, or perhaps it was her near fall, but the Ravenclaws would both cast in her direction. Adeline was going to need all of her quickness to escape, but how quick could she be when her energy was draining?

Thomas, still conscious (and judging by the grin on his face, only getting more confident) would cast his wand at Adeline, and he would be able to feel just how successful that was as a jet of green shot out from his wand, a massive Fire-making spell that seemed ready to light his opponent's robes ablaze. But drained as she was, Adeline was not going down without a fight. The Gryffindor girl ducked out of the way JUST in the nick of time. And then it was HER wand that was moving, targeting the boy who had almost set her on fire.

But nothing happened.

The girl was hanging on with the last of her energy, but it wasn't enough. Her fighting spirit wouldn't help as her wand didn't shoot the knockback she'd been hoping for. And whether it was fatigue or that momentary distraction, she would soon see Pericles jinx hit right into her. And then she would begin to laugh?

Was it the futility of her situation? No, it was the tickling jinx...The tickling jinx that had hit its mark perfectly. And as fatigued as she was, after how long this duel had gone, she would find she was far too tired to laugh...it would hurt just trying. Her knees would feel weak...her vision would swim. As she tried to keep her breath, she seemed just about ready to topple.

Adeline would grow weak...surely any second she'd hit the ground, unable to stand any longer. But then a surge of energy would come. Her partner Katrina had shaken herself of her paralysis, and her quick thinking was able to keep Adrina in the fight just for a little bit longer, with a healing spell just in the nick of time! Enough to straighten herself up and remain in the fight, though sadly not enough to stop her fit of laughter.

Spectator Thread

Confidence bolstered by his partner's successes, Thomas found himself casting a powerful fire-making spell. He had done this same thing earlier in the duel--Incendio Duo packed a punch, sure, but certainly not to this magnitude--but this time his spell went wide. Rather than allowing himself to seethe, for once in his life, the Ravenclaw boy decided to try and be positive! Unfortunately, he was woefully out of practice in optimism, and whatever joy he might've been carrying after witnessing the expert cast by Pericles just a few moments prior shriveled up and died.

The smile on his face closely resembled a grimace, and the cheerfulness in his tone was clearly strained. If he missed another spell, he might've lost his marbles. "Wow, I love dueling so much right now!" Thomas wanted to snap his wand in half. Wasn't his core meant to be perfect for reliable magic!? Reliably inaccurate, perhaps. There was no way at all that it was his fault, of course.

Thomas couldn't even bother a negative comment towards the opponent presently pointing her wand at him, so exasperated. He was truly at his wit's end. Instead, he theatrically rolled his eyes at Adeline, not saying a word but certainly conveying his contempt with ease.

Katrina finally regained control in her mind of what was going on. Adeline needed help. Katrina looked to her duelling partner, this time seeing what state she was in. She looked moments away from collapse, the laughter, fire, and everything else that had been sent her way sufficiently taken its toll. Katrina saw her begin to sway, the moments before unconsciousness suddenly seemed much closer than they had before. There wasn't much time.

Katrina quickly sprung into action, sending another healing Adelines way just as she looked about to collapse. The spell did it's job, Katrina was again thankful for her knack for healing. Ok, now that Adeline was literally collapsing, now what?

Adeline could feel the darkness closing in around her. She had never been knocked unconscious before, and had felt confident at the start of this match that she and Katrina would be victorious in a matter of seconds. But as her vision tunneled, her confidence waned and threatened to flee altogether.

A rush of comforting energy washed over her, the darkness pushing back—not entirely gone, but at least sustained for the moment.

“Thanks for that,” she said gratefully to her teammate, feeling bad that her fellow Gryffindor had needed to heal her, and had therefore missed an opportunity to damage the opposing Ravenclaws. “Just got to land a few hits.”

Addie attempted to toss a spell across the stage, but her magic fizzled before it even left her wand. Her weakened state was not doing any favors for the poor spell casting she had been suffering from in this match.

Loss of conscience by tickles seemed a less miserable way to go than being burned til feinting, or bludgeoned by Flipendo. Yet once again, Katrina healed her partner. Pericles sent a pointed frown her way. It was one thing to have the fourth-year on the defensive, another to have the duel dragged out. "Seems a bit cruel," the Ravenclaw murmured without additional context, seemingly commenting on his own internal dialogue. Then, a little louder to the partner at his side, a reflexive line of reassurance: "It was a perfect cast, if a little to the left. Don't let it distract you. Just a little longer...."

The Ravenclaw boys were more determined than ever to win this duel, and they showed that.
As Adeline's conditions grew weaker and weaker, her partner Katrina tried to keep the young girl up for a little bit longer, and cast once more the healing spell at her partner. However, such joy would be short lived, because Pericles' well aimed Expelliarmus made Katrina's wand fly out of her hand once again. It would take the girl a little bit, before retrieving it again.

Almost in an attempt to even out the situation, Adeline concentrated her attention on Pericles, and a powerful Knockback jinx came out of her wand. It would have dealt quite the damage to the Ravenclaw prefect, but that didn't happen as the boy quickly moved out of the way. That could not be said for Adeline, unfortunately. The already weakened girl was hit by Thomas' Incendio Duo; the flames immediately started burning at her robes, and with the fire came the pain. Poor Adeline, she was definitely seeing the worst side of duelling this time.

As the duel kept going, Ravenclaw kept their position on the lead, but nothing was decided yet, and the tides of the duel could still change at any given moment.

Spectator Thread

A well-executed spell always did bring a smile onto Tom's face. There was arguably nothing more satisfied than the feeling of an Incendio Duo striking one's opponent. It was his favorite spell! So when he managed to hit Adeline and set her ablaze, it was only natural that the boy felt triumphant. Further still, his spirits were even further bolstered by his partner's successful disarm.

He almost seemed disappointed that Adeline had stopped trying to knock him out, truth be told. Thomas was basking in the attention, so to see his partner suddenly targeted he was mildly offended at the chance in tactics. Pointing a thumb at himself, he jeered to his opponents both, "You know, I make a much better target than my friend here. A Flipendo or two my way, and I'm certain I'd be through!" The Ravenclaw paused momentarily, before taking a look at Pericles. Was 'friend' presumptuous? It had kind of slipped out by mistake...

The familiar burning of a fire-making spell overwhelmed Adeline once more. Every muscle in her body tensed in pain as the after-effects of Rictusempra continued to prove bothersome as well.

“Just–one–hit–” Addie gasped, directing her wand toward her opponents yet again. “Flipendo.” Out of her chestnut wand erupted a beautifully cast knockback jinx, and though the shadow which had clouded her vision before was hanging heavier and heavier over her, she felt sure that this would be the spell to finally make contact. In this moment, she would prove her strength and show everyone both on the dueling stage and off that she was an asset to her team and to Gryffindor.
