"Swanson, Ophelia"

Ophelia took a deep breath. She wasn't given the time to fully comprehend everything that was happening around her, but she knew one thing; she was bubbling with excitement. She began focusing on her breathing, doing her best to calm herself down the sorting hat was placed upon her head. She had thought long and hard about the house she believed she belonged in, but she always had second doubts. Does she truly have confidence or ambition? Just the thought of thinking about where she would go for the next seven years of her life made her mind spin.

She gazed over the Great Hall. No one seated at the long tables of red, green, blue, and yellow paid any attention to her, or much attention to the ceremony at all; most were conversing amongst themselves. But even without any eyes towards her direction, Ophelia still felt knots forming in her stomach, her heart slowing pacing faster, no matter how much she focused on her own heartbeat.

"Not sure where to go, are you? And the first Swanson of your generation... your parents were Griffindor, no? You have bravery and confidence... but that's only the surface of your true personality."

Ophelia paused. More than the surface of her personality... it was something she couldn't grasp. Truthfully, Ophelia felt like it was wrong to judge and describe herself, and maybe this was the reason why. Her mind began to race at the thought as the sorting hat continued.

"You're not like your parents, are you? You're very, very different from the rest of the Swansons' I've seen. You have strong ideals for someone your age. You have goals and plans for your future. You want to do more than just succeed. If that's the case..."

"SLYTHERIN!"

The sorting hat was removed from her head as she began walking towards the table of cheering green. She couldn't help by smile a bit. Was it relief, or was it happiness? Ophelia wasn't sure, but she began to quicken her pace as she approached the table, excited for everything that the school held for her.

"Graham, Guy!"

Guy looked around at his fellow students, still in awe of the whole scene. It was finally beginning to sink in to him that he was a wizard, thoughts raced through his head: "Why had he been chosen?" "I'm not special like all of these kids!" His first step forward had silenced his mind, he had watched many kids go up before him and thought he had an idea of how this worked. Guy would be seated in the chair and the hat would call out a name, when that happened he walked over to the table he was assigned to. "Just like picking teams in gym class" he thought.

As Guy sat down he realized how little understanding of the Houses he really had. He had read up on the basics, but it is hard to understand culture through a book, and Guy wasn't the finest student anyway. As the hat was placed on his head, he heard it begin to whisper to him, the first words made him jump with surprise.

"Graham, eh? From a Muggle family but I sense ambition within you... Hmmm.. Do you have what it takes, I wonder..."

Guy sat there, bewildered that a hat could sense what he was thinking and who he truly was, he had heard from other students that it is never wrong and always puts students where they are turly meant to be, but what if it wa-

Before Guy could complete his thought, the hat bellowed out: "Slytherin!"

Guy looked over at the cheering table of students in green and let out a smile before walking over and taking his seat among them.

"Arten, Dianis!"
A young girl looked up from her place in the line, taking a step forward. Her fingers enclosed around a small jewel in her pocket she had named Wolf's Eye. Dianis scanned the leather wizard's hat placed on a wooden stool, and a smile reached her lips. She took almost no time to reach the hat, placing it on her head and brushing back a loose strand hair in one swift movement.
For a moment the hat did not speak. Dianis squinted at the rim, confused, heart speeding up--she had expected a quick decision of the hat.
"Well, hello Miss Arten. I don't remember your parents."
"They went to school in Russia."
"Ah, yes, I can see that. Your bloodline is extraordinarily special, Miss Arten."
"How?"
The hat chuckled. "It is...hard to explain. Which house are you hoping for?"
"That is the decision of the hat."
"You value power, dear, over almost everything else. If you were minister, the weak would have no place to live, am I not correct?"
"I value power, yes, and if I were minister, I would give wizards and witches rewards according to the contribution they have made. Real contributions. That would be a truly justified world."
"Well, good luck. Hmm...I still can't see if you are more cunning than intelligent, but you do have ambition, Miss."
A slight pause.
"Slytherin!"
Dianis took off the hat, gazing at the rows and rows of students, but she couldn't hear the cheering anymore. Her eyes shifted to the clock on the far side of the room.
Barely a second had passed since she put on the hat.

Waiting for his turn, Skar had his time to observe environment around him. Excited and thrilling peers that are curious about the fate that the Sorting Hat would endow them, while the sorted ones were going to their tables of their houses, Skar mostly saw happiness and relief in their eyes. He sighed. "Perhaps it is true, that, the Sorting Hat is never wrong." he said to himself. While he was checking the house tables one by one, he was called to face his destiny that will await him in the  Hogwarts' floors.

"Skar Specter!"

Feeling anxious, he took his time, slowly walked to the chair. He was curious of the house that he belongs, because even he was lost in thoughts and didn't have a choice yet. He wanted to honor his father and be a wizard like he wanted him to be, but he was not a Pure-blood. He wasn't sure if he would fit in Slytherin. Skar was a half-blood, who mostly followed his mother, who is a great witch from Gryffindor. and wanted to bring glory to his father in his own way. But again, he had doubts about Gryffindor as well.

While he was still thinking deeply, the time had come. As soon as Sorting Hat was placed on his confused head, it started fetching a long sigh.

"Aaaah...."
Skar was surprised and for the first time since he arrived in Hogwarts, he felt the excitement to his bones.
"I see... A very wild combination... A Specter and a Lyraun..."
Skar was sitting still, awaiting for the Sorting Hat's judgement. He was curiously watching the tables, looking at people who are potential to be his "second family"
"Oh, boy... What happened to you? There are many things that are buried in your heart... Ambition, kindness, courage, a hunger for wisdom... I could have put you anywhere... but you fit one the most..."
After a long pause, the legendary hat ended the silence that have covered Skar in distress.
"I see that you seek power more than anything. Your dedication and ambition is overwhelming. Those are things that will save you. Those are the traits that will heal you from your pain and agony."

"Slytherin!!"

Knowing that now he has a path to walk on, he slowly moved to the table of his so-called second family. He was not so sure about the choice, and he did not know if he could fit in or not. Then, he suddenly saw some people that welcomed him greatly with their eyes. With a big relief, he quickly came to a conclusion;

"Perhaps" he said, once again.
"Perhaps, it is true, that, the Sorting Hat is never wrong." this time, with a smile.

Amazement, Wonder, Happiness, and fear encompassed the feelings that Zachary felt the moment he stepped onto the castle grounds and saw his second home, Hogwarts. He stood there a moment before shaking his head and smiling as he began to walk with the others that were also first years here at the Magical School, his fear soon was overpowered by excitement as he was ushered with the rest of the first years into the Great Hall.

"Wow..." was all that Zachary could say as he continued to walk as he looked at the floating candles illuminating the hall, a great open sky with stars shown as if there was no ceiling, it was a lot to take in. As he stood at the front where First Years remained before being sorted he kept whispering to himself how he wanted to be put into Ravenclaw like his mother.

"PARSONS, ZACHARY!"
Someone, a professor perhaps, called out as Zach stepped forward as the Sorting Hat was placed upon his head.

"Mr. Parsons..."
The hat began to speak as it looked through his very being, weighing his mettle and saying what came to mind.
"Loyalty to family and a hunger for knowledge that shows no boundary...
Dedication to doing the right thing, even if it cost you something like innocence...
I remember your family, Mr. Parsons..."

The hat saw something that Zachary did not, little did he know his house was about to be chosen.
Your father, he was a pure-blood wizard of exemptional skill and showed bravery even through the hardships of his family... He was a Gryffindor
Now your mother...pure-blood and wise, her hunger for knowledge mirrors yours in every way, but she was more cunning and knew when to pick her battles...she was a Ravenclaw
I can see your desire to be like your mother, but a desire to aspire to something great like your father, but your desire does not necessarily match up to what I see...
"I see you becoming something of a desireable wizard when you become older, stronger, and loyal to your friends and ultimately the family you have and will gain..."
"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Just like that the room grew silent for a moment, then cheers from the table full of Hufflepuff house students. The hat was removed from his head and he joined his house table in shock and also with amazement. He was neither like his father or mother after all...He was his own person.

Entering the Great Hall of Hogwarts was something spectacular to behold. The dark sky above them, twinkling with the stars of the night, and filled with hundreds of floating candles, filled Piper with awe. Growing up around magic did nothing to make her feel like this was any less amazing, and it filled her with an eagerness to begin her official journey here.

As the group approached the platform in front of the professor's table, she realized how close they were pressed together. She could feel the nervous energy of her peers, and as she looked around at them, she noticed many of them were fidgeting. Her parents had told her about the sorting ceremony, but her curiosity pushed her forward in the crowd until she had the perfect view of what they were about to face. A small stool sitting perfectly in the center of the platform, with a patched, dusty wizard's hat placed in front of them all. The sorting hat.... She knew she was ready for this, but she didn't know what house she would be placed in. Her mother had been a Slytherin, but her father had been a Hufflepuff. Secretly, she had always wished to take a different path than her family, and hoped she would be placed in Ravenclaw. Whatever happened though, she knew of the old magic that created the hat, and she knew she would be placed where she was meant to be.

Student after student approached as their names were called, and still Piper waited. She marveled at how many first years Hogwarts had this year, and it made her smile. For years, she had heard of the dwindling number of wizards and witches in the world, but it seemed like their numbers were finally increasing. And with all of these new first years, I'm sure to make a few friends. I can't wait to find someone to write to when we're on holiday!

Just as she felt like her turn would never come, she heard her name being called out.

"Holland, Piper!"

With a grin, and an excited bounce in her step, she jumped up onto the platform and sat down. It was finally her turn, and she was ready to find her place at Hogwarts. The professor sat the sorting hat down upon her head, and she felt it slide forward until all she saw was darkness. "Ahh, Miss Holland. I see. Your father, hmm...he showed great compassion for the world. Your mother, though, showed ambition. They worked well together..." It was odd knowing that the hat could see what she was like on the inside. "I see you are the same as them, compassionate, ambitious, dedicated. You have a great thirst for intellect, but you seek something more... You take after your mother more than you think, child. You're destined to be a great witch, and with that it'll be...

SLYTHERIN!"

The sorting hat was whisked from her head, and Piper bounced to her feet with a huge smile on her face. The green-clad table cheered as she walked over and took a seat next to a few of the other first years. It was time to begin her journey at Hogwarts, and she was determined to become the best. The sorting hat's words stuck in her mind about her parents, and herself. If she was destined to be great, she would have to work hard while she could.

I'll become the best potion master the wizarding world has seen. Nothing can stop me now.

God-Modding was approved by Benjamin (Benji) Addington

As the group of first years got closer to the over-sized, imposing wooden doors to the Great Hall, Lettie could feel the air change from unbridled excitement to stiff, cold anxiety. What had been rambunctious chattering not only a moment prior became an uncomfortable silence.

"Dibs on not going first." Benji whispered. Lettie rolled her eyes at her best friend and replied, "Mum said they call us out in alphabetical order by our last names, so I'm pretty sure you'll probably be first.. Now shut it, I don't want to miss anything!" She swiftly turned her back to him to make sure he knew that this was the end of the discussion.

Lettie felt that she could sense her classmates' overwhelming nerves as they entered into a room with a brilliantly lit ceiling and tables that were so long they were almost unsettling. As the other first years goggled and grinned over the lavish decorations, Lettie knew that it was time to get serious. She was not here to play games and to marvel at the superior handiwork of whoever handled the interior decorating around here. She was here to be successful, and she knew that her path to success had started the moment she boarded the Hogwarts Express, and it wasn't about to stop now.

As the anxiety started to rear its ugly head in the pit of her stomach, Lettie decided to pay it no attention and instead took a moment to observe some of the other first years. She made note of small things like how they carried themselves, or who they were talking to. The more she could know about them, the better.

Thankfully, it didn't take long for The Sorting to start, and Lettie continued to watch closely as each one of her classmates sat upon the wooden stool, making mental notes of their names and the houses they were sorted into. If nothing else, it served as a distraction from the massively large lump she could feel forming in her throat. She thought it was almost annoying how predictable it was to see the stupid grin on the first years' faces as the hat announced their house and they went to join their respective tables. Lettie hoped to Merlin that she wouldn't look as stupid as they did when it was her turn.

"Lancaster, Colette." Her name pierced the hall, forcing her out of her internal dialogue and pulling her towards the legendary hat. Lettie could definitely feel her legs moving, but she wasn't certain that she was the one moving them. She sat carefully down on the stool, then shortly felt the weight of the hat press down on her head.
"Ahh, Miss Lancaster.. I sense brash determination, along with a thirst for knowledge.."
Lettie hoped with all her might that she would be placed in Ravenclaw or Slytherin. It didn't matter which from those two, but the other houses were weak and she knew her mum would not approve.
"What's that my dear? Oh yes, you have a desire for recognition, but an equally large curiosity for learning. Yes, I certainly see robes of green or blue for you, but which to choose .."
The hat continued mumbling things like "Hmmm..." and "Yes..." for what felt like ages. Lettie was becoming increasingly aware of the amount of eyes that were fixated on her, which only made the lump in her throat grow larger.
Starting to feel irritated, Lettie's gaze shot up at the hat as she directed her next thought at it. "Hey, do you think you could, like, hurry it up a bit? Everyone's staring, you know."
The hat chuckled. "Oh, and impatient to boot! Alright, alright, I know just the place for you...

SLYTHERIN!

A wildly stupid grin spread across Lettie's face as she nearly ran to the now cheering Slytherin table. She shot a worried glance over at Benji, who she was relieved to see was doing just fine socializing with the other students at his own house table. She had expected that they would be placed in different houses, and she really hadn't been worried about it. There would be plenty of time for them to see each other in classes and around the school grounds.

With that, Lettie happily started filling her plate with shephard's pie. Overall, she considered her first day at Hogwarts to be huge success. Her mum would be extremely proud to hear she had been placed in Slytherin, which was her own alma mater, and nothing made her happier than to think of her mum being proud of her. She knew that this was just the start of a tremendously long and tiring road, but for now, everything couldn't have been more perfect.

"Finite, Quinn!"

She struggled to keep her body from shaking as she walked up the stairs ahead, the sorting hat looming before her. Unlike some others, there was no one to disappoint back home. She wished to be in her mother's home house, Slytherin, but nothing was certain until the sorting hat said it was so.

Seating herself on the uncomfortably warm stool, the hat was placed on her head and it dropped slightly over her eyes, partially blocking her vision of the great hall.

"Ah," the hat was quiet for a brief moment, only fueling Quinn's anxiety further.

"You are quite like your mother, such a shame for an excellent wizard such as her to die so young. Let us see... you are quite ambitious, smart, driven. All good traits to have..."

Slytherin, please, Slytherin. Her eyes were closed tight as the mantra repeated in her head. She desired to feel some kinship even beyond the grave.

"Hmmm... you might not like to hear what I have to say... you will thank me later."

"Ravenclaw!"

Quinn's heart dropped into her stomach as the hat was removed, a slightly disappointed look on her face as she walked towards the rowdy table of blue and black-robed students she would not fit in with.

The Great Hall, where every young wizards and witches gathered to bond with their classmates, teachers and ghosts. It was Kira's first time seeing floating candles without any support. The new sight of environment made her awed and amazed. Scared yet excited with the new environment Kira had put herself into, she walked along with her classmates. Missing her family back home was one problem she needed to handle and now, another decided to come. Her classmates were whispering to each other, enjoying themselves even though everyone was nervous and yet still look forward to their sorting ceremony but not Kira. Her painfully past made it hard for her to be surrounded by crowds of people in a huge hall let alone having to see everyone has a friend already and she is still a loner. "I guess nothing will change here either" as she looked around to the people who cheered as a newcomer was sorted in their houses.

"Park, Kira!"

A voice pierced into her ear making her startled. The voice echoed through the Great Hall. She stepped forward and turned around to face everyone. Everyone's eyes were on Kira as the Sorting Hat was put on her head.

"Umm... Very ambitious I see and yet your life was always filled with curiosity and books. Rather sad for a young girl."

Kira inhaled as her past started to haunt her, "I hate that word" she exclaimed. Getting annoyed she rolled her eyes hoping for this to end quickly as her nervousness starts to kick in even deeper. She tried her best to stop her body from shaking and moving.

"Quit moving young girl. This will end quickly. Um... Very interesting indeed. Ravenclaw or Slytherin. You could be in either of these houses but which fit you the most?"

The Sorting Hat paused for a bit before continuing, "SLYTHERIN!".

The crowds cheered as Kira made her to the Slytherin table, Kira was relieved that it was over.

Not now.

Hailey shivered, tapping her fingers together as they were held securely behind her back. Every few moment she fidgeted, slightly twitching her head to one side, or tapping her foot to a rhythm.

"Jackson, Hailey!"

Oh, Merlin's baggy jocks, that's my name!

Her foot twitched, and suddenly she realised she was tapping it to Morse Code: I love you. Her face flushed red, what if someone knew Morse? Her feet pattered quietly as she nervously approached the seat.

The hat was placed on her head, falling down her ears a bit.

"Hmm.. what do we have here?" A sleek voice muttered in her ear, deep in thought. She flinched again. "Hello?" She mumbled. The hat is talking. This is crazy. The freaking hat's talking. "Shut up about me." The voice chided. "Let's see more about you."

"Hmmm. Brave. Stood up to her abusive mother just so she'd take care of her cat. Maybe Gryffindor?"

"Please finish your decision." Hails mumbled under her breath.

The hat, if anything, saw that it had the right to ignore her.

"Books... so many books you've read. You know so much. You learned so much, just to find your father." She hat was definitely enjoying this now.

"Shut up." She hissed through clenched teeth.

"All right, spunky, this is how it's gonna work." The hat's voice was full of mischief. It shifted slightly, and Hails knew that this moment was probably the most defined of her life.

A pause.

"RAVENCLAW!"
