Katrina Walker searches for the wand.

It seemed like the duel had started to be slightly straining for everyone, even a skilled duellist as Pericles. The young wizard was ready to cast his Incendio Duo towards Adeline, who again seemed extremely concentrated and focused on her opponents, but when he did, something was off, because no spell came out of his wand despite his effort. At least the spell did not backfire against him.

Thomas was determined to bring his team one step closer to victory as well, and he decided to cast the same spell as Pericles. He successfully did that, and the fire left his wand and advanced towards Adeline, but the young girl easily avoided the spell, her high concentration definitely paying off. While the spells were flying around, Katrina had managed to locate her wand and picked it up from the ground, since it had fallen not too far away from her.

With all the duellists now able to cast again, the fate of the duel was once again uncertain.

A swing and a miss.

"Oh you-- I'm the annoying one? How about you quit running around like a chicken with your head cut off and let me set you on fire!" Thomas jeered, fully aware that his request was unreasonable. Still, he was an unreasonable person at his core, so this would hardly come as a surprise to anyone who knew him well. What upset him more than his incompetence was the fact that he was letting it get under his skin to such a degree, his reaction overblown and ridiculous. Later he'd muster up the self-awareness to be embarrassed, but in the moment he was too frustrated to hold his tongue.

"Doesn't have to be fire either! Knockback jinx, tickling charm, whatever will get you off this stage and out of my sight the fastest!" Thomas was exasperated, one hardly needed to be an empath to tell.

The strain was becoming plain on Peri's face. There was a light pinch on the brow, a distracted frown, concentration wavering between the insults slung by his partner and the tears he'd seen on an opponent's cheeks. Though he tried to steady himself with a slow breath, it instead left him as a weary huff. The duel was dragging on. His grasp of strategy seemed to falter while his silvery eyes flitted from one target to the next, before joining Tom with a frankly halfhearted "Incendio." But where he was supposed to have the will and intent to conjure a Duo iteration, he instead forewent a cast entirely. A toot of smoke and a single spark burped sadly from his wand. That seemed to rouse him back to the moment, eyebrows arching in surprise for the failure while a tinge of pink surfaced beneath his freckles. Oops.

Action: As Strategized

Despite Katrina’s previous attempt at getting herself doing literally anything towards winning the duel, she found herself on defense once more.

There wasn’t much one could do to win a duel without their wand. So Katrina was reduced to looking backwards where it had flung so she could get her hands on it once more. Thankfully it was only a few steps away and was back in her hand in a flash.

Now they could get back to winning this. Theoretically.

Adeline smirked at both of her opponents, who were both incredibly intent on taking her out of this match.

The first spell whiffed before it even left the light-haired boy’s wand. The other, though well-cast, soared past her as yet again, she expertly dodged it.

Addie was glad to see that Katrina had reclaimed her wand, and thought carefully about what to do next. Dodging wouldn’t win the match for their team, but as she felt the heat from the irritating boy’s incendio pass her, she recalled how horrible it had been to get hit straight on by a wall of fire, and winced as she imagined it happening again.

“Oh, would you shut up?” Adeline rolled her eyes at the boy’s comments. “The grating sound of your voice is rather painful on the ears.”

Gryffindor moves were not received

The duel continued, as all the competitors began to get more and more tired. Katrina had finally managed to retrieve her wand - just what she needed to get back into the fight! But the Ravenclaws were not ones to let an opportunity pass them by. Before the Gryffindor girl could get back onto her feet, the spells were flying.

A slightly embarrassed Pericles waved his wand, but while his previous attempt had been unsuccessful, he redeemed himself fully with the gust of wind that he created. The gust billowed towards both of his opponents with great force, enough to blow them backwards. Katrina managed to just get out of the way in time, but Adeline wasn't so lucky. The gust of wind hit her head on.

To make matters worse, Thomas would begin to get out his own frustrations with a devious spell, as the ground beneath Adeline would become slippery. With the combined wind and the slippery floor, the girl's feet would skid, and it would take all she had to remain on her feet!

She WOULD manage to stay on her feet, just barely, but the effort of doing so would prevent her from even being able to fire back against the Ravenclaws...and though she'd be beginning to recover from her spell-induced laughter, she'd also feel her energy waning!

Spectator Thread

A light grimace dragged at Pericles' lips. His forehead furrowed, exasperated from his uncharacteristic failure to cast, the bitter banter between his teammate and opponent, the duration of the duel itself. The miscast had at least served to rein him in from distraction, but now he was frustrated. Mind set on a spell, his incantation was spoken sternly this time: "Ventus." A gale of wind erupted from the aspen, and much to his surprise, split. The bitter expression was blasted away, replaced with one of shock, then on into delight. Ventus was a new spell in his arsenal, one he had been especially excited to experiment with for its peculiar potential to split. One step closer, he thought, to learning how some of their seniors split any spell. It was a massive morale boost. Hoping to take Thomas on this confidence surge with him, Peri hollered over the whipping wind, "Steady, Tom! You're about to beat your personal record!"

It was about time they had found success. Even if Thomas didn't prove to be the one dealing the damage, his preferred role, he was more than happy to help. As Pericles' cast was beyond successful, buffetting his chatty opponent with a powerful gust of wind, he flashed the girl a malicious grin. Fine, if she truly wanted him to be quiet, he would have no more words for her, allowing his actions to speak for themselves. Besides, the possibility of victory was more than enough to satiate his desire to prove that he was among the best, if not the best.

To Pericles, he offered the following, not looking away from his Gryffindor opponents for even a moment. "Feels lovely to be conscious this long, I hope it's not a fluke!"

Katrina felt paralyzed, unable to think or process anything before the next thing was happening. The wind going their way, the way the duel was drifting farther and farther away from them.

At last Katrina shook herself out of her mental block, looking around and reevaluating. “We still got this”, Katrina said in a low voice intended for her and her dueling partner.
