And We Meet Again

Drew was confident. Drew was composed. Drew knew how to handle social situations. He wasn't awkward. He didn't stutter. He wasn't nervous. Why was he being like this now? It made absolutely no sense.

Akari stammered that no, she did not have a date. On one hand, he felt bad that he had made the conversation awkward for Akari. She looked almost bashful. Like she was ashamed she didn't. On the other hand, Drew felt immensely relieved for reasons he didn't quite know.

"Oh, good!" he blurted. Then he blushed, glancing at Akari "I mean- I was wondering, if you want to, would do want to-" he shook his head at himself, stopping his rampage of words. Get it together, he told himself. He took in a deep breath, turning towards Akari and looking her in the eye.

"Would you be my date for the Fall Ball?" he asked, finally getting to what he had wanted to know in the first place. "I mean- like- you're really kind and funny and-" (he stopped himself from saying 'gorgeous') "-I really enjoy being around you. I'd like to go with you, if that's alright with you." His words were sincere and he was careful to make eye contact with her.

Puzzled eyes watched the boy sitting in front of her as he stumbled slightly over his words. Akari had no idea how come though, nor had any clue whatsoever about what he was about to ask. Once he gathered his thoughts, he looked over at her, finally vocalizing his question. The Gryffindor's mouth then threatened to fall agape upon processing what he had asked her.
"Wait- me? You want to go with me?" She mumbled quietly in astonishment. Had she heard correctly? Drew, wanted to take her, as his date, to the fall ball? She could hardly believe it. Before she even got the chance to form a sentence to properly reply to him, he went ahead and flattered her even more.

A grin slowly but surely made its way to Akari's face as she listened to him. Realizing that her silence was likely quite unnerving, she then turned her body to completely face him before she responded.
"You really are much too kind. I am beyond flattered" She replied at long last, looking at Drew with an absolutely delighted expression.
"I like being around you too, so sure, I'd love to go with you" She continued. One might have expected her to be rather timid and sheepish in a time like this, but funnily enough, there was no trace of such qualities in her mannerisms. She was positively thrilled, and it showed. She had not expected to be so elated on the prospect of being someone's date, but Drew had clearly changed her mind.

"Oh my gosh, I must go and quickly get everything in order then"
She suddenly started up, realizing that she will actually have to put effort into preparing for the ball now. The date of the event was nearing rapidly, and she had not exerted much energy whatsoever into organizing herself for it, so not only was probably it a good idea to start on that soon, but she actually had a reason to.

Without much thought, and in the spur of the moment, Akari flung her arms around Drew, embracing him in a hug before quickly standing back up.
"Okay, I'll see you later, yea?" She said, as she hastily began making her way off the pitch, but right before she completely exited the stand, she turned around and looked back at Drew briefly. A broad smile was etched on her face as she tried to meet his gaze. This was going to be so much fun.

And then with that, she was off.
