Seriously? You Again? PV Lizzy Solace Closed

The holiday break had been such a great time for Lizzy. So much had been accomplished and she was able to go back to see her family with Simon. Her brother had acted as if no time had passed, razzing her about every little thing she did. It was nice to be able to go back to the muggle world, to how things had been before Hogwarts, if only for a few weeks.

Lizzy had wanted every last second she could get with her family, resulting in her nearly missing the train. She had raced through the barrier, not worrying at all that she'd crash into it. That was quite the change from the beginning of the year. Walking along the aisle she peered in each compartment as she passed, looking for the one that wasn't brimming with students. Who knew so many students went back home for break?

This scenario seemed very familiar to the young Gryffindor, probably because it had happened previously. At the beginning of the school year, Lizzy had walked up and down the aisle just like this, in search of a seat. This time it was different because Lizzy knew a lot of the students on the train. She had duelled, fought, laughed, and solved mysteries with the same people she hadn't known at the start of the year. Honestly, it was truly amazing how many friendships she had made in the past few months. Perhaps Hogwarts brought people together. That was the only way she could think to explain it. Hundreds of children brought together, many of whom did not know each other, to learn how to do things usually thought impossible.

Finally, Lizzy came to a compartment empty save one girl. The girl had a cat on her lap and was facing away from Lizzy, looking out the window. Lizzy had a vague feeling that the girl seemed familiar somehow, but she dismissed the feeling. She had met so many people at Hogwarts, that was most likely why she seemed so familiar.

She entered the compartment with the holiday joy still in her spirits. Still standing, she went to speak to the girl, to ask if she could share the compartment, when she saw the girl's face for the first time. It was Adelaide Barlowe. The girl that Lizzy had argued in the library with for quite a while, and then again on the grounds during a pet training activity. The two did not have the best history and now they were practically being forced to share a compartment? Lovely. Just lovely.

Adelaide's head turned around at the sound of the compartment door sliding opening and someone walking in. Her mood immediately soured as she realized who was in front of her. Lizzy Solace. The one person who grated her nerves so much had walked into her compartment. Perfect, just perfect. It had took the blonde a second to recognize the girl, she looked different somehow. Before she could think better of it, her mouth opened unbidden and the words spewed out, "What happened to your hair?" It was definitely shorter than the last time Adelaide had saw Lizzy. It wasn't horrendous, but it was definitely a sharp contrast to Solace's long hair. It was a bold choice, maybe a bit too bold in Adelaide's opinion.

The reason that Lizzy had walked into her specific compartment had dawned on Adelaide: she probably couldn't find any other free compartments and now the two were forced to share one together. Well, this was going to be a wonderful journey. New year, same annoying people to ruin Adelaide's day. "Well, sit down already if you're going to stay," her tone was harsh as she gestured to the free seat opposite her. "We don't need to talk, since this is obviously less than ideal circumstances, we don't even need to acknowledge each other's presence. Just don't be annoying, got it?" She smiled falsely at Lizzy before resuming her stroking of Nina's fur, the cat meowing in content as Adelaide smiled and leaned down to press a kiss on the top of Nina's head.

She willed the train to go the slightest bit faster so she could get out of this compartment quicker. Whether Lizzy decided to attempt a conversation or throw back a snarky remark or simply stay silent as Adelaide had suggested, she definitely didn't think this journey was going to be the smoothest ride. At least she had Nina to keep her company, and a few books in her trunk that she could take out to read and pretend Lizzy simply didn't exist.

As Adelaide turned to face Lizzy, the first thing out of her mouth was, "What happened to your hair?" That was not exactly something Lizzy wanted to be reminded of at the moment. She had had enough people teasing her about that immediately after the incident at school. What had she done to deserve this compartment?

"Nice to see you again too," Lizzy replied sarcastically. "To answer your question, there was an accident with a pair of enchanted scissors. A couple of friends helped me to make it look better, but there was nothing to be done about the length. It has grown on me though."

"Me, annoying? No, never," Lizzy said rolling her eyes. Taking the seat across from Adelaide, she smiled, not exactly friendlily. "You on the other hand..." It would be ideal not to acknowledge each other's presence like it had been suggested, but because Adelaide had been the one to suggest it, Lizzy would be doing her best to get on her nerves. Lizzy was a bit annoyed that Adelaide had stormed out of the library after remarking she would leave Lizzy to throw a temper tantrum by herself. As if Adelaide storming out wasn't childish enough.

Without quite meaning to, Lizzy realized that she had fallen back into the pattern of snappy replies and over the top sarcasm with Adelaide. "Wh--" she started, then stopped. She was going to ask if Adelaide had made any more enemies, but stopped herself for some unknown reason. She supposed it didn't make much sense to fight with Adelaide when there was nowhere else to go if one of them got really angry. "I see some things have changed with you as well," she said instead. "New pet?"

Adelaide stared unconvinced at Lizzy's hair but decided not to comment further on it, she really was not in the mood for another argument today, especially in a confined space where they couldn't leave even if they wanted to.

She raised an eyebrow as Lizzy started speaking, which was most definitely going to be an insult towards Adelaide, before she trailed off. "What about me, hm?" She asked, a faux innocence painting her expression as she stared at Lizzy. She wasn't trying to start an argument, she definitely wouldn't stoop that low and she is not that childish, although she wouldn't be surprised if Lizzy attempted to start an argument since she was the one to start one in the library. Adelaide still hasn't got an apology for that, even though she was obviously in the right. Alas, it appears Lizzy has not matured enough in the space of time since they last saw each other to realize that. She had last saw Lizzy at the Training Jamboree, maybe she should ask the girl if she had actually dueled Cody. Hopefully she got a detention out of it, that would be hilarious. She decided not to though, not just yet.

Adelaide was so caught up in her own thoughts that she hadn't even realized Lizzy was about to say something until she, once again, stopped. She must be really restraining herself from lashing out at Adelaide, maybe she'll threaten Adelaide with her wand again. Though, what did come out of Lizzy's mouth surprised Adelaide. It was merely a simple question, and Adelaide couldn't spot any malicious intent behind it. She shifted awkwardly at the change of atmosphere in the compartment in her seat before straightening up, "Yes, actually. I got her for my birthday. Her name's Nina."

As if Nina could tell the conversation had shifted to her, she let out a yawn before leaping off of Adelaide's lap and walking over to Lizzy. If Lizzy allowed her, Nina would nuzzle up against Lizzy's leg. Adelaide got a weird sense of déjà vu, the last time she saw Lizzy the cat she was training at the Training Jamboree had also walked over to Lizzy. This was certainly a bit awkward, and Adelaide couldn't help but feel a bit betrayed by Nina on how quickly she had left her to go over to the new person in the compartment. Even after all the love and pampering she had given her. Nina really was the most attention seeking cat Adelaide had ever seen.

"Nothing, nothing," Lizzy replied. She had meant to trail off mysteriously like that. It was like trying to explain a joke, if you explain it, it isn't funny anymore. The intention of her statement had been to imply that Adelaide was the one who had started the argument in the library without directly saying it. She wasn't about to start another foolish argument that got the two girls nowhere, but she did want to make a point about the previous one. Indirectly of course.

After the argument with Adelaide, Lizzy had gotten into several other sticky situations. The school had exposed her to more people than ever before, but more people meant more chances for differing opinions and enemies. She still had more friends than enemies, but she would have preferred to have no enemies at all.

Getting caught up in her thoughts once again, Lizzy rolled her eyes mentally. Why are you so worried about what other people think? Especially the ones who try to get under your skin. If they don't want to be friendly towards you, then don't worry about being friendly towards them, she reassured herself. Trying to please everyone never worked out, so she learned only to please the people she cared about.

"Your birthday?" Lizzy asked, shaking herself away from her mind. "You had it while on break then?" Nina, as Adelaide had introduced the cat, got off of Adelaide's lap and nuzzled up against Lizzy's leg just as Loki, Henry Knight's cat had done. Lizzy reached down to pet Nina softly as the cat rubbed against her.

Adelaide nodded, not bothering to pry or demand Lizzy tell her what she was insinuating. The girl wasn't worth that much effort. The two definitely made it clear that they felt less than pleasant feelings towards each other, so whatever it was that Lizzy was referring to, it definitely wasn't nice. The whole atmosphere in the compartment was uncomfortable, two girls who disliked each other forced to share one tiny space for hours. It was as if they were teetering on the edge of attempting a civil conversation to try and diffuse the tension or to just completely ignore each other.

"Yes," she nodded in response to Lizzy's question. "My birthday is on Christmas, actually. So technically Nina was both a Christmas and a birthday present." She watched as Lizzy bent down and petted Nina, the cat purring in content. A small smile formed on her mouth at the scene, even though she only adopted Nina a couple of weeks ago, the love the young girl had for the Silver Siberian was huge. Nina let herself be pet by Lizzy for a few more seconds before she was satisfied and came back over to Adelaide's side. Nina leaped back up onto the seat beside Adelaide, stretched, and curled up into herself to go to sleep. Adelaide planted a soft kiss on Nina's forehead before, reluctantly, turning her attention back to the brunette in front of her.

"So, what did you do over the break? What kind of Muggle things did you do?" She had not meant for her question to sound condescending, but depending on what way Lizzy took it, it could certainly come off the wrong way. The blonde had merely remembered that Lizzy told her, or rather yelled in the midst on an argument, that she was a muggle-born. Hopefully Lizzy would not take it the wrong way. Hopefully this would not result in yet another argument.

Lizzy shifted uncomfortably as a silence fell between the two girls. She and Adelaide definitely weren't, and had never been, on the best of terms. This conversation was so tense it would turn a whole room from friendly to awkward. Lizzy was counting down the hours until she would be free of this compartment.

She smiled politely as Adelaide mentioned that her birthday was on Christmas, making Nina both a Christmas and birthday present. "She seems really sweet," Lizzy commented as the cat went back over to Adelaide and curled up into a ball beside the girl. Sometimes Lizzy wished she had a cat, or any pet at all, but still, her parents had promised to take her, or rather have her older brother take her, to get a pet soon. Whenever she asked when soon was though, they would always say if she asked it would seem to get farther and farther away.

The next thing Adelaide said was almost considerate. She asked what Lizzy had done over break, but then added a snide remark about her doing 'muggle things.' Lizzy's features tightened ever so slightly, she had worried upon arrival at Hogwarts that there would be some amount of prejudice against her coming from the non-wizarding community. There hadn't been anything really, besides comments like Adelaide's just then, but it still made her irritated.

She breathed out slowly. "I didn't do much, she began. "Mostly messed around with my brother and just enjoyed being back home. Of course I did all this without magic, because magic isn't a 'muggle thing.' Lizzy hadn't meant to say that, it just kind of slipped out. Hoping Adelaide wouldn't take it badly, Lizzy awaited her response.

"Yes, she's adorable, I love her," Adelaide smiled as her attention shifted back to the sleeping cat beside her. It still came as a shock to her, sometimes, whenever she looks at Nina and realizes that Nina is hers. She's eternally grateful for her parents thinking that she was mature enough to have a pet of her own. Adelaide knows that she'll take good care of Nina, she's already spoiled her with love, cuddles and kisses, and she will keep spoiling her with love, cuddles and kisses for the foreseeable future.

Adelaide sighed, she knew it was likely that Lizzy was going to take her words the wrong way. "Actually, I didn't mean it like that. I am very much aware that magic isn't a 'Muggle thing'," She said, doing finger quotes around the two words, "I was just asking because I was curious. You know, being a Pure-blood, I don't know anything about the Muggle world. I mean, I know some things, but not a lot. So I was just wondering, don't go throwing a temper tantrum about it, please."

It bugged Adelaide to think that Lizzy had immediately jumped to the conclusion that she was insinuating that Lizzy was inferior because of her blood status. Of course she wasn't, and Lizzy's blood status had absolutely nothing to do with Adelaide's dislike towards her. Even if Lizzy was a Pure-blood, Adelaide still wouldn't like her. "Also, I'd appreciate it if you didn't just assume that I'm one of them blood supremacists. I may be a lot of things, but I am most definitely not that."

She smiled a small smile at Adelaide as she expressed her love for the cat, now in a deep sleep beside Adelaide. It seemed like Nina and Adelaide really were a perfect match for each other. They looked at each other with such love. Lizzy hadn't thought the other girl would be much of pet owner based on her previous history of outbursts and temper tantrums. Apparently she had been wrong though. Since she had no intentions of fighting with the Ravenclaw, Lizzy kept this thought to herself.

"I had wondered," Lizzy muttered under her breath sarcastically at Adelaide's comment. As she explained herself though, Lizzy found herself feeling more and more guilty at snapping at Adelaide. "Being a pureblood and being curious aren't bad things. I guess it was just the way you said it sounded... wrong. I'm not the one throwing a temper tantrum either."

Lizzy most certainly hadn't just assumed Adelaide was a blood supremacist, she had just been irritated by her comment. She decided to tell Adelaide just that too. "Look. I was not assuming you were a blood supremacist, I was just irritated by your comment."

After a moment's hesitation, she said, "Don't get me wrong here, we are not friends by any means, but if you're curious, I can do my best to teach you whatever you want to know." Nothing Adelaide could do would change the fact Lizzy didn't like Adelaide, but she had put the offer out to be kind. Whether or not Adelaide chose to accept it was up to her. Perhaps her curiosity would just get the better of her and she'd accept. Or perhaps her hatred for Lizzy would stop her from accepting.
