The Bubble-Producing Charm, First Year
Backdated to Year One
I have finally gotten around to this!
It was strange really, another day and another class and everything seemed to be bubbling over with excitement. This confused Alec for many reasons. One being the fact that, for a history class it wasn't often this happened. People had a tendency to think it was rather dull. The oddity was Alec thought the same thing though he loved the class and this sort of learning. Being young and rambunctious however, sitting down for long prolonged periods of time and sitting and reading or listening was something he didn't like doing. Being in classes like such played on his inattention and ability to get distracted. He often had trouble focusing, zoning out he would have to put extra work into his studies later because he was never able to catch more than a few paragraphs of words. However, since everybody seemed to be bubbling over with excitement, Alec was as well. Especially since people had started lining up, meaning he got too stand, he'd been getting antsy in the chair, and it had began to become somewhat of a noticeable thing.
He had been one of the last few to get up from his chair though, as he stood whispering the incantation, wand in hand though he didn't cast. “BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem” he whispered, saying it slowly, much more pronounced then it needed to be, he could do it faster once he knew he was saying it right. He rehearsed it in his head a few times before envisioning the wand movements, he'd missed the lecture but was catching on as his eyes fell on those who were succeeding to do it. Pointing and casting for wand movement, simple. His mind set on it now determination filled him as he got in line. The amount of energy that filled the small first year would be clear as he hummed and moved around shifting a lot in line. Bound to annoy those in front or behind, because he wasn't being as watchful as he should have, being as ramped up as he was.
When it was finally his turn he found himself in front of one of the five volunteers. The one he happened in front of. A person with a mess of brown hair and green eyes. The second Alec saw the other he seemed to still, it being an older student and all of course it became a little intimidating quickly. But when he saw the glint of mischief in the other's eyes, a familiar sight, one perhaps not of a prankster as Alec was, but someone who may have enjoyed practical jokes, Alec seemed to be put at ease.
The boy smiled and nodded to himself, pointing at the target and casting, Alec whispered “Bullarum Immortalem” and somehow despite the hesitance he'd had at first, he knew he would get it.

Did Avery hear Professor Zahid correctly? Were they really going to learn a spell during history class? He glanced around, but found that several other students were just as surprised and giddy at the prospect.
He listened intently as the professor explained the mechanics of the spell and its incantation. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem... BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem..." he repeated quietly to himself, without his wand. He had really found it easier to do things one at a time, and was glad that the professor suggested they do it step by step for the sake of Avery's uncomplex brain. And what was that? No wand movement was needed? Just point at your target? That seemed easy enough, fortunately.
He lined up eagerly in front of the Hufflepuff boy, Leon. Watching as other kids either failed or succeeded in front of him. Soon enough, it was his turn. He readied his wand, pointing it straight at the older boy. "Bul-LAIR-rum im-MOR-ta-lem," he incantated, incorrectly. A few soap spuds dripped from the tip of his wand. He sighed, but supposed he was fortunate that it hadn't exploded on him, at least.
Back to the end of the line he went again, listening to the incantations of successful students. Ah, he really had gotten it wrong the first time, hadn't he? When it was his turn again, he uttered the incantation correctly, and pointed the tip of his wand straight at his target, holding it steady. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem," he incantated, and watched closely for its effect.

#830c4f Lin Evanvleck ✯ First Year
11 years old
Lin entered the History of Magic room. Learning a new spell, of course she wanted to! She sat down in the third row and listened carefully to the teacher. A spell to make bubbles. Nancy would like that! And Lin liked it. A string of golden bubbles came out of the teacher's wand.
BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. Understood, registered. On volunteers? Even better! Bubbles that normally don't burst, what an incredible idea. Lin grabbed her chestnut wand, ready to try it before putting it down. Practice without the wand first.
— BUL-la-rum im-OR-ta-lem. No, BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. Ok, I'll try.
Lin stood up, and walked towards Andrej, the only Ravenclaw in the group. Even though she knew the formula perfectly well, she had decided to miss her first attempt. For the simple reason that bubbles of different sizes and colours are much more fun than copycat bubbles.
— BUL-a-rum im-OR-ta-lem.
Lin is delighted to see the many different sized bubbles, some blue, some purple. Beautiful! With a smile on her face, she blows them up by putting her hand through them. Well, enough laughing, now Lin does it without mistakes.
— This time I can do it. BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem.
Golden bubbles of equal size and shape emerged from Lin's wand. Smiling, she grabbed one and held it quietly in her hand. She turned back to the students who were waiting their turn to pass and curtsied. And she sat down in her seat, her golden bubble in her hand.
Professor Edit: While a success was nice, the lesson was there for the students to practice, so when Zahid noticed that a Ravenclaw had sat back down, he directed her back to the queues. "Well done, Miss Evanvleck, but there is enough time in this lesson to practice a couple more times, you want to be able to cast the spell consistently."Bullarum Immortalem learned

Hands-on lessons were Everly's personal favorites, and the first thing she observed upon entering the History of Magic classroom were how the desks had been moved and pushed up against the sides of the room, and how there were five unfamiliar people standing up at the front. Everyone else filed slowly into the classroom slowly behind her, and once all of them were inside, the professor began to explain the lesson as Everly's excitement grew. This bubble charm didn't seem like it had much of a use to her at the moment, but it looked pretty, and so Everly must learn.
Once instructions had all been given out, the students began to arrange themselves into lines, preparing to cast their spells at the older students. Everly shuffled slowly over to the line in front of a Hufflepuff boy whose name she couldn't remember (fabric? fiber? something similar to that), the one closest towards her. "Bullarum Immortalem," Everly muttered under her breath, wanting to make sure she had the pronunciation down correctly by the time it would be her turn. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem," she repeated, emphasizing parts of the phrase more. Everly had also already committed the wand movement to memory, a simple pointing towards the target.
Soon enough, the line moving quite quickly, it was her turn to face Fiber. Everly made a mental note towards herself to not mess the up. "Bullarum Immortalem," she muttered once more underneath her breath, as if to reassure herself. With her wand lifted and pointed towards the Hufflepuff, Everly concentrated on the spell and the bubbles she wanted.

| ── | Draven had walked in the HoM classroom in a somewhat sullen disposition, storm clouds seemingly hanging above the boy's head. There were dark circles underneath his eyes and he seemed to have trouble staying on his feet, swaying slightly as he gripped the leather strap of his messenger bag. He was mid yawn, pathfinding his way to where he usually sat with his eyes closed and dropping his bag on top of the desk. Only to hear something clang loudly as it landed on the tiled classroom floor instead of the table. Draven startled, his eyes flying open to find there was in fact no table. Some of the students were giving him weird looks, and the desks had been pushed to the side to form an empty space in the middle off the classroom. "My bad," he sighed, picking up his bag again and hopping up to sit on one of the desks. But when Professor Zahid started talking about the spell they'd be learning, the boy perked up. A bubble producing charm. Pretty. Soon enough, they were paired up with the unlucky students who had volunteered for target practice standing at the front of the classroom with somewhat resigned expressions. He was paired up with a rather good looking boy. Curly black hair and warm brown eyes, a slight smile pulling at the corner of his lips. Draven approached the guy, leveling his wand square to his chest, one hand rubbing at his eyes. The room was slightly blurry, and Draven was starting to regret sneaking some coffee off of the teachers table earlier that morning. Instead of giving him the promised burst of energy, it made his hands tremble. "Sorry in advance if I mess this u-" A giant yawn cut him off, one he promptly covered with the back of his hand. "Excuse me..." "No worries" the other boy smiled. "Alrigh-ghhh.....uh I'm so tired. Alright. BUL-la-rum im-MORaghhhhhhtalem" Another huge yawn, this time masked by hiding his mouth in the crook of his elbow. The spell did nothing. Obviously. Draven felt his cheeks turn a light shade of pink. "Take your time." Theo grinned. "Funny." Draven scowled down at his wand. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem" he said slowly. And a jet of golden bubbles begun to flow from the tip, surrounding the other boy. "Can I curl up under one of these desks and take a nap now?" he pleaded, only half joking, the question directed towards Professor Zahid.. |

Professor Edit: Zahid could not quite help a small snort at the cheek. "No napping during lessons, no, Mr. Mirador. Despite having a success already, practice makes perfect." The Bubble-Producing Charm, First Year
-backdated to first year-
Chairs and tables pushed off to the side suggested that something more hands-on would be happening. It peeked her curiosity, noticing the rather tall students that were most definitely not first years. Very few of them could even get to a similar height of the 'new' group of students. Whatever was prepared, it was already interesting.
Lea shuffled to find a spot to stand, listening into the lecture. Bull- what now? While the spell incantation seemed confusing, making bubbles that didn't pop was an interesting skill. A little strange in terms of charms, but magic by itself was strange. And yet, the hufflepuff had to wonder who would've put the time into making such a spell. It only made more sense once the professor introduced why the older years were here- as targets.
The badger would put her wand away into the pockets of her robes in order to figure out the incantation. This one seemed like a more challenging pronunciation- so Lea was sure to try it out quite a few times, softly to herself. "Blarum Immort'lem. BUL-leh-rum. BUL-la-rum. Bullarum. I-mor-ta-leh. im-MORE-ta-leh. im-MOR-ta-leh. im-MOR-ta-lem. Immortalem." Goodness, that took a while. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. Bullarum Immortalem." And finally, it sounded right, the girl proud to have figured out the tongue twister. Maybe it was more challenging because the wand movement was so simple. Pointing? Easy.
Lea would get into line, murmuring the words to herself until it was her turn. Finally, she stood before Miss Ojeda, the red hair quite bright in Lea's mind. She'd extend her wand, deciding to cast despite her mind caught up in the wording. "Bul-leh-rum Im-MOH-ta-lem." Clearly not right, her wand sparked and fizzled seeming almost annoyed. The girl shifted her feet, repeating the incantation to herself some more before once again pointing her wand at Ojeda.
"Bullarum Immortalem." The spell would cast well, but her aim was off, redirected to the red hair and the space above the volunteer. Perhaps it was because of the hunched stature that Lea thought the girl had a little more height. Pointing? Apparently not so easy. Glancing towards the teacher for a quick moment, the girl would stay put at the front to redeem herself. Wand pointed towards Miss Ojeda, she'd incant, "Bullarum Immortalem." Finally, the string of golden bubbles appeared, enveloping the fifth year.
Professor Edit: It seemed nervousness was once again the bane of spell casting even when successfully casting a spell. While the Hufflepuff's bubbles went wide, she appeared to not let herself be daunted by it, despite the short glance his way, as she immediately tried again, this time aiming correctly. "Well done, Miss Hirsch."

History of Magic Classroom
It seemed the class for History of Magic would take an unlikely turn. Instead of sitting down and pouring through history books, as Aurelius liked to do, the Professor had decided to make it a more practical lesson. It seemed a spell was on the cards, as the students were explained to, with the mention of the Soap Blizzard being said; and out of curiosity, Aurelius made sure to note the event down, so he could look it up in his own time, being somewhat interested in the tidbits Professor Zahid spoke of.
Today, however, would be learning the Bubble-Producing Charm, known as Bullarum Immortalem. A somewhat odd spell, truth be told, but as the Professor began to explain more about it, Aurelius began to see some benefits. The idea of bubbles that wouldn't burst was intriguing, as well as the potential uses that came from that, and the potential for using the spell in duelling was evident.
Seeing all those golden bubbles from the Professor's wand, makes me think I could use this spell for disrupting an opponent's view, Aurelius thought to himself, as he continued to watch and learn. Not to mention there doesn't seem to be any wand movement... so this charm became a lot easier. BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. Good.
Aurelius had been taught Latin prior to his arrival at Hogwarts, he had studied it for years, so he was very capable with the language - and variants thereof. So, when it came time for the students to begin practicing the incantation, the Irish student smiled and listened to the others as they made the attempt. There was no need for Aurelius to bother, he could say it just fine, as he waited for the Professor to call attempts. And when one of the older students - the volunteers - was ready, Aurelius stepped over and pulled out his wand.
"Hello," Aurelius said with a nod. The other volunteer nodded back, and assumed a ready stance. "I guess I'll be sending bubbles your way... so, BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem."
Aurelius kept the end of his wand pointed at the other student, and watched as golden bubbles began to flood the area between them. The words had been spoken perfectly, with accurate and precise enunciation and inflection of the words. Latin had been a boon to learn, Aurelius was quickly finding, and it would likely continue to serve him well in the years to come.
"I suspect this charm could be very helpful in duels," Aurelius mused, as he considered just how many bubbles there were. "And if I recall, I believe I heard that Flipendo could help disperse the bubbles, too, as well as Finite."
All in all, yet another helpful and insightful class in History of Magic...
Professor Edit: It was with slight amusement that Zahid overheard the Slytherin's contemplation of the duelling application of today's spell. When Zahid had first learned of the spell, he'd been told it was purely for decoration purposes - how unimaginative his teacher had been. Conversely, at Hogwarts it seemed every spell was measured purely at its duelling prospects. "Well done, Mr. Leeds."

The Bubble-Producing Charm, First Year
He wasn't sure yet how important this lesson might be for his future, but learning magic was fun and there may come a day where bubbles were a dire need in his life. No one would tell him he was only half a wizard for not even knowing how to produce bubbles! Besides, it might be fun to decorate trees in a forest with them. Alternatively, covering enemies in bubbles also might be fun...
He dropped his wand into his robe pocket and practiced the incantation as instructed. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. Bullarum Immortalem, Bullarum Immortalem..." It took some practice and muttering under his breath until he felt he was saying it just as he heard it spoken. "Just point my wand. Okay." It didn't seem so hard, but as he lined up and watched the rest of the students cast bubbles at their practice partners he wondered if he'd get it. "Bullarum Immortalem... Bullarum Immortalem, bullarum immortalem, bullarum immortalem..." He murmured over and over while practicing his hand movements, picturing himself succeeding for his self confidence. His uncle had told him to do this, as long as he put confidence into the things he did and practiced, then he would succeed. Even if that was on the third or fifth try.
When it came to his turn, he faced one of the older students and drew his wand from his pocket, aiming at them as he chanted the words "Bullarum Immortalem!" A stream of colorful bubbles spewed forth and popped all over them, a failure, though a pretty one. Oddly enough, seeing the failure only made him feel better, there was less pressure now for the next try. "Bullarum Immortalem!" This time it was a success! Bubbles sprayed forth and remained where they were until they were disenchanted away. Cain was proud of himself for not losing heart this time.
Professor Edit: Seeing the colourful array of bubbles, Zahid made his way over to the Slytherin, though intervention proved unnecessary as he corrected whatever mistake he had made himself and when he made a second, this time successful, attempt. "Well done, Mr. Corvus."Bullarum Immortalem learned

James read a book as he walked down to the History of Magic class. He closed his book marking his page as he walked into the classroom. He noticed the desks had been pushed to one side of the room again. Hm...seems we are doing another spell today. He thought to himself as he walked to a corner in the back of the room.
The professor introduced the class to the five guest students who were upper year students.
James heard a few murmurs before the silence returned. The professor demonstrated the charm and golden bubbles were produced from his wand. After this the class was dismissed to start practicing.
James started to practice saying the incantation which was a bit hard BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem. He repeated it to himself a few times before practicing the wand movements. It seemed you only had to point your wand at the target. Simple enough. Learning new spells had always been easy for him.
James walked slowly over to one of the lines and waited for his turn to try the charm on one of the older students. Very soon after he was able to have his chance. He took a deep breath and pointed his wand toward the older student. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem" He said just loud enough for people to be able to hear him from across the room but not shouting it.
A stream of golden bubbles all identical in size were produced from his wand and floated toward the upper year student. He was excited for sure but kept his front of being straight faced with a small smile he stepped out of line so the next student could have their try.
Word count: 282
Professor Edit: Given that the charm was a relatively easy spell, Zahid was not surprised to see yet another student succeed in casting it on their first try. "Well done, Mr. Owens."Bullarum Immortalem learned

When it came to spells, Kim was very good at them. He'd always been a quick learner and was very detailed when it came down to it, getting lots of practice in beforehand. Not actually casting the spell, but going through the motions of doing them. So, when it came down to the real test, he usually tended to succeed the first time he tried to do things. But of course, people tended to make mistakes from time to time. Kim was no different, as he was human.
Not a god who never made mistakes.
Upon entering, the first thing Kim noticed was that the desks had all been pushed to one side.
He wasn't entirely sure what was going on but knew it was something different. It actually woke him right up, as it was morning time, the worst time for Kim.
The professor was standing at his desk, with a rather expectant look upon his face. It was almost as if he was waiting for someone, or something to happen. This instantly intrigued Kim and he glanced behind the professor at the five upper-class students standing off to the side behind him. The first thing that popped into his mind was that they were going to be taught some kind of spell, charm or hex. Why else would the professor be standing like that?
And why would the guest students be there? The look on their faces didn't scream seriousness, so it couldn't be anything bad. After everyone had entered and the doors had closed, the professor started his lecture, confirmed Kim's earlier suspicions. So, it was a charm. He perked up a bit when the older man referred to the Soap Blizzard, one of the topics that Kim actually was interested in. But unfortunately, those weren't the type discussed now.
Still, the professor's demonstration was pretty.
This particular charm looked like it might be fun to learn and obtain to use.
As the professor mentioned Christmas decorations, Kim frowned trying to remember. It sounded vaguely familiar, what had it been? He didn't have any siblings, that he knew of, but his parents had constantly reveled him with stories of their days at Hogwarts. ALL. THE. TIME. Kim felt as if he'd gone to Hogwarts all his life from the amount of things he'd talked to him about. They hadn't told him every single detail but a wide generalized sense of it all.
Unless it had to do with a specific memory of theirs. Kim was just glad he was getting to experience things on his own, rather than hear about it second-hand from his parents. Bubbles that wouldn't burst? Awesome. As the professor concluded his demonstration and beckoned for the upper-years to move forward, he introduced them and Kim let his eyes flicker over them. Listening to the rest of the instructions, the Gryffindor took in the words.
There was no wand movement for this charm.
Perfect.
All he needed to do was make sure he got the words correct then.
This one would be easy for him.
Kim took a deep breath and let it out slowly, calming every nerve inside his body as he closed his eyes and focused on the charm he was about to cast before the professor.
"BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!" He murmured a few times and then lined up in front of the first upper-year, Miss Gibbs. Kim was the first person to come over, having wanted to avoid having someone in front of him and behind him. He raised his wand and pointed it at the older girl's chest. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!" Kim said and then turned around to head towards Miss Ojeda instead of going to the back of the line for Miss Gibbs once again.
When his turn came again, Kim cast the charm again. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!" He said, pointing his wand at the older girl's upper arm this time. And again, Kim went to a different volunteer afterward. Mister Vonnegut was next in line. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!" Kim said, pointing his wand at the older boy's foot this time. And off to the next one! Mister Everill was his next target to practice it on. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!"
Kim pointed his wand at the older boy's upper leg and then moved on to the last volunteer, Mister Fabbri. "BUL-la-rum im-MOR-ta-lem!" This time he pointed his wand at the older boy's head, aiming to create a ring of bubbles across his forehead. Finished, Kim took a few steps back, not wanting to get crowded around by anyone. Hopefully, he'd done a good job. If he had to guess, he thought he'd succeeded in all his casts. This wasn't a difficult spell.
The hardest part of casting spells were the wand movements.
And this one didn't have any.
