The Very First Meeting
Lizzy took a deep breath to clear off the nervousness that had been lingering all day. The first meeting of the book club she had founded, On the Same Page, was meeting today. At first, she had been mildly surprised at the amount of interest that her club had received, with more than half of the sign ups happening just a few days after she had hung the signs on the various bulletin boards around the school. Nevertheless, Lizzy was grateful for the attention her club was getting, but also worried. What if the other members didn't like how she ran the club? What if they all left?
Sighing heavily, Lizzy took a last glance around the empty classroom. It had been decorated to match the book and writing theme the club had. It looked pretty good in her opinion. It should anyways, she had spent most of last night preparing for today. Every person who walked in would find a copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first book they would be reading, on a desk at the back of the room, near the door. All the desks and chairs had been pushed aside to make room for the beanbag chairs she had arranged in the center. Lizzy had had to assure the professor whose room this was that they would find everything exactly as they had had it before, once the meeting was over. There was a small circular table which held a variety of magical candies for the members as well.
The room looked great, the books were ready for use, all that was missing were the members. They should be arriving at any moment though. Suddenly, the doorknob turned and the members began to enter the room.
The first meeting of On the Same Page will be on December 5th, and will take place in the empty classroom on the second floor. Looking forward to getting this club started officially with all of you!Each member of the club will have received this note from Lizzy beforehand.

The Very First Meeting
This morning, when Lin received the note from Lizzy, she first wondered what it was. Then she remembered that she had signed up for this book club. It was Sunday, and well, the weather was not great. So Lin did her homework in the morning, in the common room by the window, and at about 4 o'clock she headed for the empty room on the second floor.
She knocked twice, then entered the room. She smiled. Beanbags, books and sweets. Add music and hot chocolate and a fireplace, and it was the definition of winter for Lin. The Ravenclaw walked over to the beanbag chairs and sat down on one of them.
— Hi Lizzy! Am I the first? I thought I was late! How are you?
Lin walked over to the beanbags and sat on one of them. With background music, hot chocolate, a big plaid and a fireplace, we would be back at Lin's house in London during the Christmas holidays. Finally, Lin jumped up and walked around the room with a smile. The Ravenclaw turned to Lizzy and asked:
— Do you have any music? For background music. It's always good to have background music!

The young part goblin believed that he was specifically asked to attend a... book meeting? Did he look like a nerd? Did he act lik- well... maybe that was a little harsh. After all, he knew Henry and Lin, but he wasn't too motivated to see them, knowing that he got detention in front of the older slytherin. It was a painful thing for Cody, embarrasing even!
He would walk into the classroom, see Lin, and hear her ask a question. Cody sat down, but looked at her harshly. "You KNOW we don't have muggle technology to produce music right? Apparently the Wizarding World thinks that the muggle technology just turns them into zombies. Look at Voldemort after all."
He shut his mouth, picked up a book next to him... Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Wasn't that a textbook? Well.. the boy wouldn't have a need for it, right? Not until third year.. or would they need it now, and get a more cruel and sadistic textbook? To Cody, all textbooks were miserable and horrid, perhaps not to others. But Cody wanted to know if there was anyone else in the club, aside from Lizzy, Lin, and Cody.

The Very First Meeting
Youssuf knocked loudly on the door and entered, clutching five Butterbeers in his hands (he'd gotten a second-year to smuggle them out of Hogsmeade for him). He also had a huge fur mattress draped over his shoulder. Butterbeer, he felt, was the drink of the gods - cooling in summers, lukewarm in autumn, warming in winter and the taste was delicious. He stopped in surprise as he saw two people he knew - Lizzy Solace and Cody Stevenson. Lizzy, he thought, was the type of person to read a book while curled up, but Cody? Cody was usually more likely to tear the book apart and sacrifice its entrails to Agni.
He didn't know the other girl; she was pretty though, and he had a notion he'd seen her about. She was a Ravenclaw, he could see.
Youssuf waved to Cody, Lizzy and the other girl; he'd brought his mother's copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It was about 30 years old; his mom had gotten it on her 11th birthday.
He'd heard part of the conversation out in the hall; Cody, as was his tradition, was being harsh to the new person he'd met. Youssuf interceded, "The Small Hall has a record player, I've seen it. It's a bit clattery, but it works. I think it's enchanted. And I saw a really old gramophone in a storeroom. So we have musical capabilities at Hogwarts."
Grinning at the new girl, he said, "I didn't bring hot chocolate, but I brought the next best thing: Butterbeers for everyone! I see you have a beanbag, I brought a fur mattress too, you can spread it on the floor and be warm."
"I know you, Lizzy and Cody. I don't know you, though, new girl. What's your name?"

Henry looked up from his book toward his feline, Loki sat in front of the door. Tail flickering and amber eyes watching his onwer. The teen went back to his book, carefully turning page as he spoke"there was no set time on the note, I'll go at 12," Loki stayed where he was as Henry read through his book on ancient ruins. It wasn't for class but rather a free choice reading.
Once finished, the teen checked the time on his watch that laid on hiss bedside table. 12:00 exactly. Henry set his book on the bedside table, pulling himself open then pulling on his jacket. The teen grabbed his copy of fantastic beasts and where to gind them, the pages stained and a bit teared. It is a old book, his brother had it before him hut the third year still loved it with all his heart.
Loki walked toward Henry, jumping up then crawling up his leg then jacket to Henry's right shoulder where the orange feline sat. Amber eyes gazing out.
The pair left the snape dormitory and slytherin commom room, walked through the dungeons then up a few flights of stairs befire reaching the second floor qhere Henry turned and walked toward the classroom.
The teen pushed the door open a bit as he walked in with Loki on his shoulder, he wasn't the first which allowed the teen to relax a little as his eyes gazed around.
Lizzy and Cody are there, then two unfamiliar students. Book underneath his arm Henry walked closer, all emtions hidden from view of othees except a soft smile as he spoke"Hey Cody and Lizzy," offering both a short nod before looking over at the talkative boy ad he spoke"Hello, I'm Henry and yours?" Loki however didn't seem to like majority in that meeting, the feline jumped from Henry's shoulder and walked straight to the unfamiliar girl (Lin). The feline rubbed aginest her legs and meow at hee fir attention.
Henry saw this and decided to walk over by her, taking a seat in the beanbag next to her as he spoke"His name is Loki, he seems to like you." The teen would offer a soft smile, all other emtions hidden behind the 'barrier'.

Slowly beginning to relax as the other members filed in the door, Lizzy smiled and greeted Lin. "You're not late at all! I quite agree with your music assessment, but the only way would be to have live music I thought. Who knows though, I'm still getting used to the wizarding world." Background music would have made the whole atmosphere of the classroom perfect, but Lizzy had been unsure of how to set it up, so she had just left it as it was.
As Cody entered the room, he immediately criticized Lin's question. She rolled her eyes and looked pointedly at Cody, "This is supposed to be fun, don't put a damper on things, or at least wait ten minutes!" In truth, it wasn't the negative feelings she harbored toward the part-goblin, it was the fact that Lizzy really wanted everything to go smoothly for the very first meeting of the club.
Turning to greet the next person in the door, who happened to be Youssuf, Lizzy put back on her smile. "Hey Youssuf!" She then listened attentively to his statements about Hogwarts's musical capabilities. "I didn't know that. I mean, I must have seen the record player and whatnot, but never actually fully grasped it, you know? And thank you for bringing the butterbeers, that was certainly nice of you!"
Seeing yet another member walk in, Lizzy turned to greet them. It turned out to be Henry Knight. Though he had kind of landed her in detention, she had no bitterness toward him. He was very kind, and kindness seemed to cancel everything else out. "Hi Henry!" Looking around, Lizzy realized this had to be just about everyone, so she decided to get started.
"Alright, so basically we're just going to curl up here and read this book," she said, indicating Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. "After a little while, we'll discuss it. Sound good to everyone?"

— You KNOW that before "Muggle technology" there were gramophones, right? I saw one in the rehearsal room. And Voldemort is an idiot. Muggle technology is great.
Lin had not heard Cody enter. If she hadn't hit him, it's just because he's Juniper's cousin. The boy was sitting a few beanbags away from the girl and she glared at him as her eyes took on a dark red hue. She wasn't going to hit Cody, he's Juni's cousin, and she didn't want to annoy Lizzy.

A newcomer. A Gryffindor whom Lin didn't know. But he agreed with her and she was grateful for that. She was sure she had a record player. On the other hand, she had never tasted butterbeer. She hoped it was good.
— I'm Lin. First year, Ravenclaw. And you?
Lin had seen the cat before his owner. The only "big one" at the meeting. Indeed, apart from him, all the people in the room are first years. The cat rushed towards her, as if attracted. Or maybe he preferred Lin's tranquility to Cody's idiocy. She stroked the cat before looking up at the boy, who was saying hello.
— Hey Cody and Lizzy. Hello, I'm Henry and you?
— Hi Henry! I'm Lin. What's the name of your cat? He's so cute!
— His name is Loki, he seems to like you.
Smiling, Lin takes Loki on your lap, then looks at Lizzy. The introductions are made, it seems logical to her that Lizzy should take the lead. There were now six of you, four first years, a third year and a cat. Lin wondered why she hadn't brought Eleven. But in the end, maybe it was better if we wanted to avoid a cat fight.
— Alright, so basically we're just going to curl up here and read this book. After a little while, we'll discuss it. Sound good to everyone?
— Ok! But, it's a manual, so... Yeah, the next book can be Keeper of the Losts Cities?
Lin put Loki on the beanbag and stood up. She went to get a copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and a butterbeer. Then she returned to her seat. Comfortably seated on her beanbag, the butterbeer on the floor, the book in her lap, Loki... going wherever he wanted, Lin opened the book and began to read, her favourite song in her head.

The group seemed to be have a debate on muggle technology and mugglr music, their points on why muggle technology and music didn't work at hogwarts was off especially Cody's. Henry offered a soft smile as he spoke"Muggle technology and music doesn't work at hogwarts because the sofware in them often goes haywire with the large amount of magic in the air. Also you wrong Cody, there's plenty of wizarding homes who have muggle technology so I don't know where you headd that," Henry took a break for breath and to compose his thoughts then continued"Lin is right to, there are other ways to play music that don't involve muggle technology. I think there's a gramophone in the rehearsal room that we can use next meeting, there's also cassettes, and the wizarding wireless network radio," offering a small smile to the group letting the others speak. He didn't want to talk originally but thought that he could help aid the conversation, plus Lin seemed rather cool in the third year's mind.
Lizzy spoke to each of them then Lin introduced herself, Loki sat besides her. Pawing at the girl's knee his way for askimg for attention, if anyone else tried to per the feline then Loki would give a light growl to them.
Henry noticed the butterbeers that the boy named Youssuf brought and instantly got suspicious. Butterbeer isn't something found around Hogwarts or the kitchens, the only place that had them was hogsmeade. Henry watched Lin get up and get a book plus the butterbeer, Loki maneuvered out of the girl's reach. Keeping his seat between the two beanbags.
"Youssuf, right? Where did you get the butterbeer? Only the three broomsticks in hogsmade carries them," Henry asked keeping his seat as he pulled out seven classic hogsmeade chocolate bars from his inner jacket pocket. The teen personally didn't like choclate but he rarely was without it for others.
Giving one bar to Lin then placing the others in the center of the beanbars as he spoke"here," the teen then sat back in his chair, nodding toward Lizzy word's as he opened the book and started reading.
Loki jumped in Lin's lap and sat down refusing move for anything as the teen hesrd Lin's voice before replying"Fantastic beasts is a textbook and tells one about differnt creatures, it isn't a manual." the teen thought over the book they asked about; Keeper of Losr Cities before speaking"that's a good book, are you a bookworm to?"

The Very First Meeting
Youssuf replied to Lin, "I'm Youssuf Baid, firstie Gryffindor. Nice to meet you." He looked at Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, lying in his lap. He'd read it at least forty times in his uncle's library. His uncle also had a little known copy of Scamander's travel journal and notes on the animals he found, probably one of the only ones in the world, gifted to him by Scamander himself. He was a distant relation of his (very distant; perhaps a grand-uncle by marriage to Tina Goldstein or something like that).
He answered Henry, "I know I'm not allowed in Hogsmeade. I got a second-year to smuggle some sweets and drinks outta the Three Broomsticks for me, for a certain amount of....incentive, of course. I don't think he'd want anyone to know his identity. The sweets, I'm afraid, are long gone, though the Butterbeer remains. Enjoy. And chill, it isn't illegal to get another person to get something out of Hogwarts for you. If it is...well...I think I'm guilty enough to be in detention for the rest of the term."
Youssuf spread the huge fur mattress on the floor and sprawled on it (he much preferred to read lying down; it was his uncle's eternal sadness). He kicked his legs idly as he sipped his Butterbeer and read about Lethifolds. Dipping back into reality for a second, he took a chocolate bar from the beanbag and heard Henry ask Lin whether she was a bookworm too. He chuckled long and loud, "Henry, I think you can pretty much rely on the fact that everyone here is a bookworm to some extent. Excepting perhaps Cody. Look at me, for instance. I'm a prodigious reader, have been since the age of five. My uncle has a library of hundreds of thousands of books, more than anyone could read in a lifetime, both Muggle and wizarding, of all genres. I brought 15 books to Hogwarts too. I recommended the Name of The WInd for this session, but, well, I was outvoted."
He vanished back into Fantastic Beasts and imagined being a Ramora, helping countless men over many lifetimes, bringing luck wherever he went. Then forward! to being a Nundu, spreading death and poison through the air, and stalking through the lands of men.
He loved this book, because you could feel the years, the decades of work and experience that had gone into it.

"Ok! But, it's a manual, so... Yeah, the next book can be Keeper of the Losts Cities?" Lin asked. Lizzy couldn't help but smile. "I wanted to try and keep it as fair as possible, so the vote showed this as the book the majority wanted to read. Keeper of the Lost Cities is a great book series though! You can certainly suggest it for the next book we read." Though Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them may be a textbook, Lizzy had loved reading it. All of the six--make that seven--times she had read it. Newt Scamander had obviously dedicated his life to his work, which made it an even better read.
The conversation had moved to Hogsmeade, a topic which Lizzy wanted to steer clear of. She herself had snuck into Hogsmeade a number of times. It was a truly wonderful place, but as Henry had pointed out, only third years and above were allowed there. She wondered if Youssuf had snuck in too, or if he was telling the truth, and had a older student get him the drinks.
"I believe Youssuf is quite right. Besides Cody, I think everyone here is a bit of a bookworm. I know I definitely am. It's the reason I started this club! Youssuf, your uncle's library sounds absolutely amazing," she said with shining eyes. The prospect of that many books sounded like a dream come true.
As she finally opened the book she allowed herself to become lost in the pages. Textbook or not, it had to be one of her favorites, and nothing beats rereading an old favorite. Reading it, Lizzy couldn't wait to start Care of Magical Creatures in her third year.
