THIS IS A PRIVATE THREAD FOR:
@Serena Towers, @Casssandra Ironwoods, @Sarah Lightwood, @Pea Elena Fowl, @Youssuf Baid, @Eliza Corrids, and Professor @Tuesday Jeremiah Irons
DATE: November 23rd, 2021 | TIME: 4:00 pm / 16:00
Tuesday always enjoyed midafternoon. The day had already exhausted the hustle and bustle of mid-day. So now, as the day began to wind down slowly, the Herbology professor made his final preparatory trip outside. The sun was just starting to wane across the sky, turning the earlier bright blue sky into a navy sea of clouds. The man walked with arms nearly bursting from the supplies he carried. Even if the students did not request certain supplies, the man couldn't help but pick up more than he should have. Paints, brushes, easels, chunks of metal, a bow and arrows, even javelins, it was apparent that these children had a fondness for weaponry. Sadly there was no time to retrieve any enchanted pointed sticks, so hopefully, the mundane counterpart would suffice. The man would have to remind himself to stay away from the children as they mucked about with pointed objects.
The grounds of Hogwarts have ideally suited this specific group of children. Open, spacious, lack of innocent bystanders. A decently sized table was set up, with all supplies stacked up like a cornucopia of creativity. Thankfully, Tuesday had the forethought to separate them into piles of sharp and non-sharp equipment. Nearly thirty or so paces away from the table were two rope targets. The ropes were laced together in a latticework of blue, white, red strands of thick rope. The red, of course, are strung together in the center to form a bullseye. Finally, a single chalkboard sat on its easel with each student's name and respective talent.
The grass crunched delightfully under Professor Iron's boots as he shifted the weight of his body from left to right. The day was chilly enough to warrant the man to stray from his casual flannel and bandanna for a brown Carhartt coat and beanie. Orion typically was the one who dealt with the treats, so now that Tuesday was on his own without his best friend, the man decided on just store-bought candy and water. Tuesday guessed that Rion would be stealing any of the leftovers. Tiny plastic cups were set next to a large pitcher of water, along with a bowl of pumpkin pasties, chocolate frogs, and pepper imps. As soon as the children started to arrive, Tuesday would greet them with a melodic "Hello!" and the American would direct them all towards the table.

Youssuf shivered as he walked to the school grounds. There was a murderous cold outside, which really got into your bones, as if Boreas, god of the icy northern winds, was trying to freeze you solid from the inside out.
Luckily, he'd remembered to wear a warm sweater and a coat over it, as Professor Irons had recommended, or he would've been numbed with cold. It was almost unnatural. Watching the dimming sky, he almost crashed into the Professor himself. Youssuf stumbled and almost fell onto the table, but he managed to recover himself just in time. Blushing, he made a small bow from the shoulders to the smiling Professor of Herbology (or so he heard; the stocky, muscular man with a brown coat looked more like an adventurer or explorer of olden times, or perhaps a ripped Watson). Irons greeted Youssuf and gestured towards the table, where a couple of wooden javelins were lying neatly, side by side.
Youssuf grinned with excitement, and began his stretching exercises. First two full Surya Namaskars, followed by squats and a plank of about 40 seconds, give or take 5. Then finally rolling exercises to loosen his muscles up. Most people had the wrong idea about the javelin throw. They thought it was just arm strength. But it actually needed the whole body to functions as a smooth whole.
First came the run, to build up momentum. Then the slick twist of the lower torso to bring your javelin back and up, as close to your head as possible, and then finally the throw, triggered by the rotation of the shoulders. The body had to function as a single muscle.
Each part was exactly as important as the others. Javelin throwers normally had the speed of a professional sprinter or racer, coupled with the upper body strength needed for sports like boxing.
Youssuf had trained for years to perfect his techniques, and he was still a bit sticky, even though he'd won district championships back in India. He was never going to have the speed needed, however much he trained, so he focused on his torso and arm muscles.
By the time he'd finished, more people were beginning to arrive, so he quickly ran and marked out the 10 m, 20 m, 50 m and 90 m marks. He cautioned his group-mates to stay behind him, and then walked up to the run post without any hesitation whatsoever.
Youssuf took a deep breath and began his first run-up. He'd decided to take five tries, no doubt with varying degrees of success. He really wanted to show what he could do to his classmates and friends. These thoughts flashed through his head as he gained momentum and speed.
Then, flexing and snapping his whole body smoothly forward, he let the javelin fly! It rocketed up and ahead, going a respectable distance before dropping and lodging itself firmly in the ground. Youssuf quickly sprinted to the javelin and measured the distance from the nearest pole. Around 40 metres. Not bad at all, but not great either. He tried to pull the javelin out of the ground, and found he couldn't. Professor Irons came over to help, and wrenched the javelin out easily.
Youssuf walked back to the starting spot, took the other javelin, and started his run-up again. This time his score was slightly higher - 42 metres. The third shot too ended up around the same level, 38 metres. It was around the fourth shot that he really started to do great. His body flexed so easily, he nearly bent too much. There was no sign of the cramps that had come in at the third shot.
The javelin shot high into the air, and kept going. And finally, Youssuf reached 50 metres. A near-impossible task for a first-year without training, but he had plenty of training, and he did it!
Youssuf was unsatisfied, though, and took his javelin up for the last time. He began his run-up, but this time his mind was full of dark thoughts and anger. Youssuf thought about his father, who had introduced him to the javelin, and his mother, who had taken Youssuf away from him. He thought about the bullying he faced every day before he came to Hogwarts, and he was filled with an anger so pure, he felt it flow to his hand and shoulder. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them, they were blazing with pure, undiluted rage. He let the javelin go with a roar of frustration, and it flew. It flew so far that for a moment, it was obscured by mist and fog.
Then it fell. The anger in Youssuf's eyes faded as he looked at the javelin in confusion. Then he ran to measure the distance. He was shocked, utterly bewildered. He had reached a distance of 74 meters, impossible for a kid just after his eleventh birthday. Physically impossible. Then, at last, he understood. It wasn't anger that had flowed through him; it was magic. And finally he got what his mother was trying to tell him; magic, in a child, is triggered by strong emotions. He couldn't control it yet.
Youssuf smiled brightly, amazed, still, that he, a small kid from India, had just done the impossible. Then he flopped onto the ground, tired beyond imagination. He accepted a glass of water from the Professor of Herbology and snatched up a couple of Chocolate Frogs from the table, along with some Drooble's Best Blowing Gum (He really liked the gum; he loved chewing gum all the time, and his sublings used to be super irritated by the weird habit.) Then he looked at the other people there. He hadn't even noticed their activities. He was super interested in their stuff too, though. There was a Indian-looking girl doing something with metal, not actually making it, but showcasing it. A Slytherin girl was practising archery (rather well, too), and three other girls whom he couldn't see properly.
He sighed with contentment. He had done well.

If she was being honest, Serena was a little nervous about today. It was a mix of excitement and nervousness. There had been a talent show type thing, where people could showcase something special to them and she had signed up, kind of excited about it. But as the day approached, she got a little bit nervous, wondering if people would actually like what she was going to show. Her plan was to showcase some of her metalsmithing skills. Unfortunately, since the event was on the grounds and she did not want to make the entire group walk over to the forge, or to figure out how many people were in the group in the first place to see if they would all safely even fit in the forge or not... Serena decided not to do that.
Instead, she opted to do the next best thing... Showcase some of her creations without actually creating them or showing how they were made. It was safer that way, anyway. Whilst she was proud of her skill with metal, she was still a little hesitant that people would quickly figure out the secret behind her talent.
Gathering some of her supplies, she stashed them into her bag. Serena loaded herself with some creations too, wearing a few of them where possible. Slugging her hammer over her shoulder, she almost toppled backwards from the weight. Quickly adjusting, she heaved it with two hands and managed to lift it without making herself fall over.
With her equipment and tools of the trade in hand, Serena made her way to the grounds. She arrived shortly before four o'clock in the afternoon, to spot the Herbology professor already there. With a smile, she greeted the man in return as she approached. There were many unfamiliar faces in the group, which made her a little hesitant. Not many people had seen her creations - or at least, realised they were made by her, even if they did see them. Hugh sported a helmet at the ball not too many weeks prior. A helmet that was literally made out of a cauldron by her. Of course, most people probably just thought he bought it or was wearing a cauldron on his head. Likewise, she wore armour ever since the summer. It was not always discreetly hidden but she never went around telling people she made it, so most people likely assumed that it was bought. It was not too unusual seeing people in armour, anyway. Headmaster Lear sported armour ever since she knew him, and it had normalised wearing suits of metal armour without concerning those around.
Serena dropped her bag, the hammer and sat down cross-legged on the ground near the group. She positioned herself by a tree so she could lean against it. With that, she watched the first person go. As she watched the others, the nerves continued to build up inside her. Eventually it was her turn, and she was really beginning to regret it.
But she was here, and running away seemed like a humiliating option. So when the professor instructed her to go, Serena nodded and stood up, "Hey, so I'm Serena. For those of you who don't know me," Which, was pretty much the entire group. It was kind of nice, actually. Most of these faces likely did not hear the rumours about her or recognise her from what happened years prior, they were not around when it happened. With a weak wave to the group, she bent down and pick up her bag, "Today,
I guess I just wanted to share some of the stuff I made. I really like making things with metal. Like uh," She began as she opened up her bag and rooted through it. Pulling out a small jewellery making kit that her father had given her some time ago, she held it up, "I've been making little wire necklaces and earrings and stuff over the years. Nothing super fancy or hard, just, yanno... fun," She explained as she took out a few pieces that she had been working on and showed them.
One was simply a chain necklace with some beads and a dangling charm, another was a necklace that had wire twisted around a gem as part of the pendant and the last was a wire bracelet with some beads on it. Nothing fancy but she had picked up jewellery making some time ago and it was kind of fun. It was the sort of stuff anyone with a bit of interest could start doing. "The kit even comes with a jewellery making book for beginners, which I've been using," She explained as she showed it. With that, she put all of that away.
This was not really what she wanted to show off but it was something she had been making and it was linked to metal. "I guess I also uh make a little bit... chunkier stuff, I guess," She explained, mumbling a little as she showed the boots she wore. Metal boots with little wings on the side, similar to that of a snitch, "I helped to make these boots - though I can't take credit for it entirely - as my dad did help but yeah," She also held up a small tool attached to her forearm. It held her wand. With a flick, the wand ejected itself and quickly landed in her hand, "This wand holder is another thing I made. It's been handy to store my wand safely when I don't have pockets," Serena explained - though she did not bother to add that it also allowed her quick access to her wand in the event of danger, such as the ball. There was no need to drag up that mess.
Serena put her wand away before running her hand in her long hair and awkwardly scratching the back of her head. Her ears were covered by her hair - a choice she had intentionally made every morning when she styled her hair. The cold weather gave her another way to hide them though. She sported a yellow woolly hat over her ears too. "I've been practising making things like this and like...helmets and stuff, with this hammer and I guess metal like that," She pointed at the fancy golden hammer she had lugged to the grounds to show off before pointing to some of the chunks of metal that the professor seemed to have bought along.
"Soo yeah. I guess my talent is just uh metalwork? Metalsmithing? Jewellery? I dunno. That sort of thing. It's just a fun hobby but it's really fun to make stuff," She concluded awkwardly, not sure what else to really say as she fell silent putting away her items before sitting down.
She had bought a few other things too that she wanted to show - like designs on future projects or sketches of the items that she had shown to supply a 'progress' view for them but decided against showing them those things. Those pages stayed in her bag. It felt too personal, like she was revealing too much by showcasing all of it. This was enough for her.
Sitting down, feeling a little embarrassed now, Serena fell quiet again and watched the rest of the group. She was partially just glad it was over but she was slightly proud of herself for actually displaying some of it and owning up to the fact that she enjoyed making things out of metal. She was a metalsmith and damn it, she was a good one.

Players do not need to wait for another person's character to finish their talent before performing their own. For example, if someone else's character is playing the violin and no conclusion to the performance was mentioned, you may still post that your own character performed a dance. IC, if it doesn't make sense that two talents would be done at the same time, then you might write out your character reacting to another's talent, then showing their own once that talent is finished. There simply isn't enough time before the deadline for everyone's talents to [OOC] be performed at separate times.OOC NOTICE
This also serves as a reminder that the errand deadline is December 14th, barely over a week after the time of this notice. Please be certain to meet the word count requirement and detail your character performing their talent before that time. You may continue to role play in this thread following that date, but if the requirements are not met by then, you will receive no rewards for the errand.

A lot have had happened in Cash's life. On top of balancing school works, Quidditch practices, maintaining their O grade per average, now the third year just had been appointed as one of the newest newspaper writers for the Headliner. The green eyes love being a busy body. Being busy means they did not have time to think about their home life.
Ever since they been back to Hogwarts, there was no single owl from their mother. The Cuban descendant understands that their mother is an important person and holds a prestigious position down in St. Mungo's. But Cash would be lying if they did not wonder how their mother doing these days.
Cash makes a promise to themselves that they will send an owl to their mother before Winter break. Now, it is time to do something useful to occupy their mind. After their afternoon classes had been dismissed by the professor, the young Ironwoods made their way down toward where their house was located.
Usually, the young socialite lounging around on their bed with Aero while waiting for dinner to roll around but not today. Today, they hurriedly change from their school-issued uniform into something warmer since Winter will soon come. Cash decided to wear something a bit thicker. Today they wear a simple white t-shirt, then a denim shirt as the second layer, black skinny jeans, olive jeans jacket as the third layer.
To complete their look, Cash wrapped a knitted grey scarf around their neck. A high-top light grey sneakers on their feet to match with the color of their scarf. The Beater took one last glance at the standing mirror located in their dorm. Once their outfit is deemed appropriate for the occasion, Cash leaves the warmth of their dorm and venture outside.
When their feet stepped into the Courtyard, the cold wind of almost December assaulted them.
The third year walked a bit further until they arrived at their destination which is the Grounds. Once they arrived at the Grounds, they nodded their head as a way to greet the Herbology professor. "Good afternoon, Prof,"They said to Professor Irons.
Cash looked around to the other people that were assigned to their group. Some faces they recognize it, some they do not which is a good thing. The Grounds were big and spacious enough for all of them to show their talent. Cash waited for the first boy to finish and listened to Serena demonstrate her talent.
Cash makes a mental note that they will approach the fifth year and hope that Cash could attain something similar to the wand holder that Serena just shows to the group. Once the two of them were done showcasing their talent and Professor Irons called out their name, Cash stood up from their were situated.
The green eyes walked to where there was two ropes target. The ropes were laced together in a latticework of blue, white, red strands of thick rope. The red, of course, are strung together in the center to form a bullseye. Cash thought their target was the standard issues be it a circular or rectangular one.
The rope targets would be a bit much harder to hit. Before this day, Cash had owl one of their helper back home to bring some of their Archery equipment (arm and chest guard, finger tab, and a quiver for them to store their arrows). Cash rubbed their hands hoping the frictions bring a bit of warmth to their almost cold and numbing hands while walking to the Archery spot that Professor Irons already set up.
Once they stood in front of organized bow and arrows, Cash bend down a little to pick up some of the arrows. They grabbed a couple of arrows and store them in their quiver. They slide on their finger tab on their middle finger, put on their arm and chest guard. The young Ironwoods slung their quiver across their back and picked up the bow.
The bow that the school provided was not as expensive and grand as Cash has back home but it will do. Once all the parts had been put on properly, Cash turned onto the audience. "Hola!" The green eyes greet the others in their mother tongue which is Spanish. "That's mean hello"They translated it. "My name is Cassandra, "They continued.
"Phoenix Cassandra Acosta Ironwoods, goes by Cash for those who do not know me,"Cash properly introduced themselves. It is the first time that Cash tells the student bodies their first and full name. "Today, I will show you one of my talents,"They uttered. "Well, it is more of a hobby than a talent but the same difference,"They chuckle lightly.
"Alright! time to begin"Cash stated then spun around. From where they stood, there were a good amount spaces between Cash and the rope targets. Cash picked out one of the arrows from the quiver and placed it properly under the sight bar. They draw the bowstring with the arrow on it until it reaches their jaw.
Once their hand makes a T shape, Cash release the bow. Cash thought they will make a perfect shot on the first try but the wind blew the arrow slightly and missed their target by a mile. Cash then picked up another arrow from the quiver that slung across their back and do the same motion. Draw the bowstring until it reaches their jaw and release.
The second arrow had more luck than the first one. Their second arrow hit the blue part on the rope target. The green eyes suck a deep breath. It had been a while since the last time they practice Archery. And it was only a normal thing to get rusty on a few tries. The Beater then took the third arrow from the quiver.
Doing the same action as their last two. Draw the bowstring until it reaches their jaw - inhale - and release - exhale -. This time around the arrow landed where Cash intended for it to land which is the bullseye. Cash smiled to themselves. Then they took two arrows at once from their quiver. Doing the same trick and they release the arrows at the same time.
This time both of the arrows landed under and in line with the bullseye arrow. One arrow was left on their quiver and Cash decided to make a show for it. They position their bowstring up onto the air and waited a moment until the chilly wind died down. Once the air seems decent enough, Cash then releases the arrow up in the air and lets gravity do its job.
Good thing Professor Irons decided to place the students that will use pointy objects away from the students that not use pointy objects. Cash paid close attention when their arrow could be seen again. The last arrow landed on the white part of the rope, a bit far from the last three arrows that Cash just shot.
When the third year ran out of arrows, they spun around to the group again. "I think that's about it"They stated. "For the last part, I recommend do not try it unless you have enough experience"Cash expressed. "If any of you wanted to try to shoot some arrows, I could teach you some of the basics,"Cash said to the group.
Their eyes scanned their group one by one until it landed on Professor Irons. "If not, then I think that was it. Thank you"The Cuban descendant nod their head to Professor Irons as a sign that Cash was done showcasing their talent and let others take the Beater's spot to showcase theirs.

Pea just finished all her classes for today. She is feeling a little beaten after a day’s work as per usual. But today she’s actually a little excited, which is rare for her. The reason for her excitement is that she got to show off her talent to a number of people this afternoon. Yes, showing off is also another talent of hers. And of course, showcasing her painting skill is something she is looking forward to. Usually, people that have seen her painting are her aunt and some of her maids in her house so it's not often strangers get to actually sees her masterpieces.
She pull out her uniform and started to wear something a little warmer. It's November so it does get really chilly outside. But as usual, she’s a little stubborn and still chose to wear only a pair of tights under her skirt, which she thought she’s going to regret later. But she guessed that is a sacrifice she’s willing to take for fashion's sake.
Pea looked at the mirror inside her dorm. She looks absolutely cute today. She’s wearing a loose white button-up with a ribbon on its collar and a white chunky cardigan on top. On the bottom, she wore a short skirt and a pair of black tights, and black boots to finish the look. Well again, it's not only her artwork she’s showing off today.
She walked to the school grounds where the event is held. She came slightly late and already saw several students gathered. Some faces she actually recognizes, and also a lot of strangers too. She moves closer and saw the Herbology professor standing and greet all the students. She smiles innocently at the professor, “Afternoon professor.” She greeted him. She was always acting nice and innocent in front of the professors because being on their good side is very important to maintain her good reputation.
From afar she already spotted someone she already knew, and immediately start walking towards them. It was Cash. The third-year she first met also during another activity like this. She smiled at them and stands next to them for the first demonstration.
two students have shown their talents. If she’s being honest she was a little impressed, two talents that actually she hadn’t seen before. Especially the second girl, although her jewelry design is not completely impressed her, she is still quite wowed by the skills.
Then it was Cash’s round. They are doing archery. Not bad, she thought. She saw a lot of rich muggles do archery as their sport, so she could appreciate it when she saw someone skilled at it.
And finally, after waiting for some time, her time has come. To show off her glorious masterpieces. She got up confidently after the professor called her. She did bring all of her equipment, but in order to show her skill, she needs an easel. She grabs one from the equipment stash and lays them in the middle.
There is actually a lot of preparation before she starts painting, like sticking masking tape in a board so her paper won't fall off, prepping her watercolor water, and taking out her brushes and putting them on the easel.
After she finished prepping her stuff, she turns around and looked at the people around her. She smirked, “Hello, my name is Pea Elena Fowl.” She paused, “You all should probably remember it from now on.” She leered lazily and brush her hair out of her face sassily.
“So today I’m going to show you how to do plein air painting with watercolors.” She saw people raise their eyebrows confused by what she was saying, what a bunch of uncultured swine, she thought. Okay, she has to be nice, ..be nice, because there’s a professor here. “If you are wondering what en plein air or plein air means, it is French for open-air, so to put it simply it means landscape painting.” But it is much less elegant if she explains it in English, isn’t it?
“So for the basics, I’m going to show you how to paint with watercolor first.” She pulls out her biggest brush and dips it in the water she took earlier. “So see that tree over there? I’m going to try to paint it.” She strokes the brush where it was just water all over the surface of the paper, that she pick a color called ‘Permanent Sap Green’ on her watercolor palette and gently grazed unto the wet paper in the shape of leaves. “This technique is called water on water, whereas you can see, the color flare out onto the paper making the color spread unto the paper freely.” She continues to paint the other leaves and then the trunk still using the same technique. After the paper is almost dried, she dips her smaller brush into the same colored green, and starts making small leaves details, “This technique is called wet on dry, you can use this technique when the paper is dried and your brush slightly wet, with this you can create small details and sharp edges.” And the last technique, she grabbed another brush, bigger than the brush previously but smaller than the brush she was using the first time, “The last technique is called a dry on dry, where I only use a half-dried brush and paint on top also a dry paper,” She stroked the paper and draw on the tree’s trunks, "you can see the brush texture really well using this method." She added.
“And there you go.” She smiled at the people, and grabs her sketchbook, “Here are some of the paintings I’ve done in the past.” She said smugly obviously very proud of her artworks, “I learn how to paint since I was 4 years of age, so honestly if you don’t get thi-“ She was about to say something mean but catching herself midway, “Nevermind, that is all from me.” She gathers her things and goes back to her previous spot. And after all of that suddenly she feels her legs shivering, she thought that only now that she regrets wearing only tights. But in truth.. she was nervous, ..actually nervous. She might not show it but right after she returned from her demonstration only then did she feel it. Her hands felt numb. And she cannot feel her legs.
