Samantha Salwis
Reducio
Samantha Salwis removes her blindfold.
Effects: Samantha is no longer blindfolded.

Jake kept a close eye on Samantha to see how she was doing, after her run-in with Alec's flames. He couldn't really see her eyes though...on account of the blindfold. It must have been awful not being able to see when you were dueling, sure, but it was a whole lot better than being on fire.

The blindfold gave the Gryffindors time to regroup, especially Alec, who had just gotten done with dodging some explosive casting from the Ravenclaws. He had been on the defensive, but that was about to change. He looked towards his team-mate and asked if she was ready. She nodded back that they were.

And ready they were.

The spells began to fire, duel knockbacks, aimed straight to Dealla. Two spells, coming from two directions. On the outside, Dealla was confident, and Jake didn't know that inside she was beginning to doubt. He also didn't know what she had said to Samantha, her voice too low to carry. This was probably a good thing for Dealla, because her unheard criticisms of the other team's aim was followed up by a powerful knockback straight to the chest, courtesy of a focused Rose Moon, just as Dealla was waving her wand towards the girl herself.

Dealla's wind jinx would hurtle past Rose to the right, missing by an inch. The Ravenclaw girl would be pushed backwards with great force. Whether the others would see it or not, she would feel the toll these knockbacks were taking upon her. She could only fight for so long.

Then the frustrated Samantha would fling her blindfold off of her head, too late to help her partner from the Gryffindor's onslaughts, but perhaps ready to avenge her in the next round.

So... If Alec was being honest, he was completely making up everything as he went. He was ready. He just didn't know what he was ready for. Which would have been nice to know, except he'd spent too much time hyping himself up on the being ready part. He was forgetting to carry it through. Drop strategy, Alec was spouting out whatever spell he could think of. He did. It was flipendo. He wasn't surprised that had been his go too spell, just surprised as he glanced over, and him and Rose were in sync. It had either been the surprise of this as he was casting, or the fact that he'd been completely unprepared. Either way, his spell missed and had been dodged nicely. Alec bit back a scowl. A note for next time then, don't say your ready to make yourself feel ready, and not actually be ready.

His eyes watched Rose's spell, feeling proud for his teammate when it hit. He thought they were doing well. Not as good as he would have hoped, but not as bad as he could have been. He wasn't happy with that, but he was able to find himself satisfied with it. “I hear you loud and clear Prince. It's just a shame,” He shrugged and gestured. “Someone who has gone this far down, and you can't even take it up to be honest? Instead blaming me for the fact you feel you'd be better off without her.”

Alec shook his head and tutted, after such letting out a laugh the seemed to be mixed with a scoff. “I knew you were low Prince,” He let his eyes fall from the girl, instead examining his wand, then smiling to himself, “still I didn't think you could get any worse. It would almost be impressive if the circumstances weren't considered.”

It was lucky on them that Rose could evade well, he hadn't caught much of the spell that had been aimed towards her, but no matter what it was, it would have hindered things. Alec took a deep breath, and looked over at Rose, he nodded confidently at her before getting into position. Ready once more. This time actually meaning it.

The blindfold made it that she could not see, but she could still hear the reassuring from Dee. A little smile appeared on Samantha's face, "I hope you are right!" Dee did have a point, when Dee had been blindfolded not many spells had hit her.

Samantha had expected that the spells the opponents cast would be directed towards her, but to her surprise, she didn't get hit. Was it because their aim had been turned terrible as Dee had said? The young girl was annoyed that she didn't know what was going on and quickly removed her blindfold.

When Alec started talking again, Samantha rolled her eyes. This boy did not know how to stop talking, did he? "Dee does not feel better without me, if you would stop talking for a second and listen you would have heard that." There was so much more the young girl wanted to say. So many sassy and rude comments she wanted to make, but she had promised herself she would be nice so she did not.

She turned to Dee, "Let's just ignore him and let him talk, we are better than him. If we ignore him he will stop with his childish behavior." At least that's what she hoped.

It appeared that the Gryffindors had abandoned strategy completely; there was no other explanation for why they would turn their wands on Dee when Samantha was blindfolded right next to her. She'd blame this for the fact that she only managed to dodge one of the spells coming her way, surprise throwing off both her aim and her ability to evade.

It wasn't a bad thing, though, she supposed. In the grand sum of things, better one of the attacks hit her than both of them hit Samantha. The only trouble was that she was starting to feel it, the exertion of dodging an almost constant onslaught of spells, the aches in her body where their attacks had made contact. She was starting to feel rather worse for wear, how much longer could she keep this up?

At least Samantha had managed to get rid of her own blindfold, and Dee returned her encouragement with a quick smile. "I think you may be overestimating his maturity, even with that low a bar," she replied. "He seems more the type to throw a tantrum if ignored, don't you think?" Might be worth ignoring him just to test this theory.

As the blindfold successfully wrapped itself around Samantha's head, Rose had thought that Dealla and Samantha would pull a similar trick as earlier- Dealla pulling off Samantha's blindfold and Samantha dodging. That's what they had done earlier, right? Just the other way around. Samantha had helped Dealla out earlier, so she was assuming, if they were really equal partners in Dealla's eyes, for the older girl to do the same.

But she didn't. She didn't seem to pay a second thought about helping her teammate, and sent her own spell towards Rose. Rose saw the Wind Jinx coming, however, and was able to sidestep out of the way, much to her relief.

Maybe she could do this, after all?

Why hadn't Dealla helped Samantha? She was just going to leave her on her own when Samantha had helped her? Rose was starting to doubt Dealla, after all. She really should have prioritized her teammate over her visceral impulse for winning the duel. Respect went two ways. Maybe Alec had a little bit of merit to what he was saying. Dealla had been nothing but selfish this duel. She could talk all she wanted about how she did care about Samantha, but what did it matter when push came to shove and she just looked after herself?

Alec had fairly good aim, but his Knockback jinx didn't hit Dealla, either. It had been a risky strategy- trying to go for Dealla when Samantha was the one blindfolded. Rose supposed now that Samantha was successfully distracted, they could go for Dealla instead.

She nodded at Alec, a brief moment of eye contact. They were doing pretty good. They even seemed to be winning.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

How was everybody still fighting...?

It was the first duel that Jake had ever seen...he'd had no idea how tough everybody was going to be. Everybody had been hit by SOMETHING at this point, and the Ravenclaws had been hit by a lot, but here they were...still going. Jake probably would have been crying the first time he got hit.

But it wasn't just that they kept going. Something seemed to change in the air as the duel went on. It was as if everybody knew that they were in the thick of it now...that every spell cast was important. Everybody even more motivated than ever to get that next big hit. It was like electricity was in the air...

For a moment Jake forgot that he was the one in charge of making sure things went smoothly, and found himself anxiously watching just to see what was going to happen next.

Alec did keep trying to rile up Dealla and be mean, but this time the Ravenclaws didn't really answer. It looked like Samantha was saying something to Dealla instead, and they were just ignoring Alec... Jake wondered how that was gonna go...people had always told him that if you ignore bullies they go away, but it had never really worked. What if Alec just got angrier? Dealla didn't look so good after all...you might have had to look hard to see it, but the cracks were starting to show...she looked...tired. More than the rest...

And Alec was strong, Jake could see that...but a funny thing was happening on the Gryffindor team. When the duel had started, Alec had been brash and Rose had been quiet. Jake had thought it was a quiet confidence...he hadn't been able to see she wasn't quite so confident as she appeared. But he DID see the way her face was starting to change now. Her spells kept hitting...she was doing great. Maybe she was beginning to realize she could win.

Then it all started, everybody beginning to move. Jake took a step back at how fast it all happened. Alec went right for Dealla, green flames coming forth again. The timing from both was absolutely perfect. The spell was right on target, and if Dealla hadn't had lightning-quick reflexes herself it surely would have dealt the final blow to her. The spell missed by a split second, passing through where Dealla had JUST ducked away, and Jake almost thought that it was going to light Dealla's hair - but it seemed that the Ravenclaw girl was alright. Alec had missed her again. But it was close...too close....

But Dealla didn't strike back. Instead, she would quickly turn her wand at herself, healing away some of her injuries. Perhaps it was the first show that the duel truly had been wearing down Dealla and that while she might not have been showing it, she was maybe running out of steam.

Samantha and Rose, though...the girls both had the same idea, targeting each other, and Jake saw the two wands swish down almost at the exact same time. The two spells jetted forward, just missing a mid-air collision, and both girls would see another spell hurtling towards them in the wake of their own. Both spells were perfect hits. Rose's knockback would shove Samantha backwards causing her to stumble, just as Samantha's fire-making spell would hit Rose perfectly just below her shoulder. And for the second time, to Jake's dismay, the girl's robes would light, this time even worse than before.

Jake couldn't take it anymore, they kept lighting each other on fire...his breathing grew quicker as he tried to keep composure while everyone was watching, and do the job he'd been supposed to do. But how could he just sit there and watch when somebody was going to get hurt?

The duel was surely entering the final moments. How much longer could these two teams go??

Alec had missed twice in a row. He couldn't remember it had happened a third time, but he suspected as so. He wasn't keeping track of what he'd done only even minutes earlier. He was going to have to retrace everything in his mind later. Figure out where his biggest faults had been an improvements. But seeing it now, it was already clear. Dealla was incredible at being evasive, and Alec needed to figure out how to plan for that and become for accurate. A though reserved for another time he supposed. Right now he had to be in action.

After missing again he couldn't help but silently go over ways in which that split second decision could have gone better. Alec's eyes flicked from Dealla, to Samantha, and then Rose. He had to up his game he was costing them a duel if he didn't. Alec was frustrated, but he wasn't allowed to focus on that. That type of energy was going to bring him nowhere. Alec's eyes would move too look at his own robes while he took a deep breath. Mentally going over list of retorts for someone who has missed, and is also being ignored.

Alec usually didn't like being ignored, he had a want to be listened too and heard. But, his retorts were blabbered out and unprepared, perhaps next time part of his training needed to be thinking these sorts of things through. Being ignored in this instance fed into it just as much as saying something back. He could see whispering. The point of the matter was, that no matter what they liked to believe, he was very much in their heads now. If they had to stop and think about ignoring him or not saying anything back, he was still doing something.

Alec would catch the aftermath of the round, Rose was on fire. Alec looked over at her quickly, then did a double-take. That was also twice now. She could decide what to do about it. Alec wasn't going to decide for her. “Healing now? Already? Prince, I thought you were better then me, you want to believe it. You could be low and better then me, morality isn't pertinent even if it can often be a cause for success elsewhere.” Alec spoke, the words came off his tongue with ease. His eyes were judging but at the same time he looked like this could be a thing and it wouldn't matter to him at all.

“I've heard someone say silence is a virtue,” Alec felt like pacing, slowly walking around the room. Obviously he wasn't able to do that now, and even if he could... There were too many people. It was going to look weird if he did. He didn't want eyes on him like that. “Sit back and learn. You can listen, and knowledge can be attained...” Alec said, his words referring to his earlier comment.

“Experience is the only way you'll attain anything privy too what you already know.” Alec wondered how long he was going to go on, his mind usually jumped from one thing to the next. How he had the ability to focus on this for so long was beyond him. “You should try harder. If your going to go down at least you can say you put up a good fight.” He was hoping for more activity from her, from the both of them, more then this. It was taking a while, but not because the Ravenclaws were putting up a good fight. Dreadful he was wasting any time on this. Alec subsided. Taking another deep breath. He'd look over towards Rose and nod at her confidently as if that was going to help her situation. Then he would prepare.

Last round Samantha had removed her blindfolded, so she would restore her vision. But that had also meant that she hadn't been able to cast a spell. She had felt pretty useless the previous round and was determined to make up for it now.

The nerves she had felt at the beginning of the duel were completely gone. Even though she had failed to cast or missed some spells, she still enjoyed it. She would love to win this duel and be able to tell everybody she won from 2 older students. But before she could do that she would have to win. The scenario of losing was not on the young girl's mind, she believed that they could do this and that they could win.

Samantha decided to go for a spell she didn't know that well, it was a risk, but she was willing to take it. Go big or go home. She focused completely on her spell casting and forgot to look out for spells coming her way. Her eyes followed her spell, which made its way towards Rose.

She was really happy when she saw a fire where her spell had hit, but she wasn't happy for long. The force of Rose her spell made the young girl stumble back. She hadn't been prepared for the power of the spell and it took her a lot of effort to not fall.

She knew which spells she and Rose had cast, but she hadn't paid attention to Dee and the annoying Alec. Dee didn't seem to be hit, so maybe Alec had missed her. What Dealla had done became clear, when Alec started talking again. Samantha didn't blame her partner for healing herself, because she also began to feel the effects of the spells. Rose her Knockback Jinx had tired Sam more than she would like to admit.

Samantha ignored Alec and only rolled her eyes when he said that they needed to try harder. Who did he think he was, deciding that they should try harder. Her last spell had hit and her target was on fire, that was not something he could say.

Again, healing. She didn't like healing, she wasn't good at it. She could have more effect attacking, felt safer on the offense. But truth was, she wouldn't be able to take many more hits, and in the end, wasn't it more important to stay conscious?

Alec's attack had been expected, and she had danced out of the way, narrowly but still. Samantha had not been as lucky, managing to hit Rose with fire once more but taking a hit herself. Things were starting to look rather bleak, the Gryffindors proving more durable than the skinny Ravenclaw girls.

Alec's comments didn't deserve much more than a roll of her eyes. Had he forgotten that they had been the ones to start with healing first? Was he even listening to himself? And she should listen to him to learn what - how to miss a blindfolded opponent? Not a very useful skill, in her eyes, but hey, she wasn't sure what the Gryffindors' training entailed.

So she only responded to one thing. "Aww, sweet that you think that I'm better than you. I'm so flattered." Should she blow him a kiss, too, or was that too much? It should drive the point home, certainly. Wouldn't want to risk him missing her mockery, he didn't seem to have much sense for subtlety.
