Patient arrives in the Emergency Department via private vehicle. Patient appears to be a teenage youth, approximately sixteen years of age with no ID on their person and unable to communicate with providers. His cousin has named him Vladamir Athanatos, pureblood wizarding student that was on a medical leave of absence from Hogwarts since November 1. History significant for a curse that has effected his vasculature was was previously evaluated in one other child, Victor Moore who was discharged to the care to Thaddeus Athanatos a year and a half ago. There is concern that the curse is somehow contagious considering the corollary but there have been no other reported cases among healthcare provers, other patients and their respective families.
V. Athanatos arrives in respiratory distress, suffering from acute hypoxic respiratory failure. Oxygen saturations 78% with noticeable cyanosis and clubbing to his nailbeds. Sternal retractions, diaphoresis and pallor. Tripod position for breathing with halting, rare single-word sentences. The patient required sedation and mechanical ventilation. It is believed that the blood has led to a systemic hypoxia in the patient and he vehemently refused blood draws. Unconscious with the use of emergency protocol, attempts to draw blood revealed the presence of track marks on his dominant arm. His cousin who is reporting for the patient at this time reports no previous intravenous drug abuse but suggests that the patient was participating in blood letting routinely as he attempted to independently investigate the blood.
The patient's cousin also refused blood draws, citing it was dangerous to do so. That the blood was "alive". The cousin was escorted forcibly from the premises and phlebotomy drew 6 phials of blood. The drawn blood in the tubes appeared to be inky black in color and viscous in consistency, not unlike syrup. The phlebotomist reported that it felt as if they were attempting to pierce through a callous and claimed to require an unusually large bore needle. The blood however that pooled at the site did take form before it was bandaged. While overall weak, some sort of dark, shadowy spider-like creature seemed to form from the exposed blood. Aggressive, the dark spider-like creature was destroyed and when it was destroyed it disappeared in a puff of smoke leaving no remains to study.
Consults have been made to hematology, pulmonary and curse breakers. Vladimir will be transferred to the ICU awaiting evaluation.

The patient's condition continues to be a mystery to providers, The patient appears to continue to decline. Chemically sedated, the patient was intubated on admission and has since deteriorated. Hematology was unable to determine a biological cause for his condition. Pulmonary has reported that his issues appear to be circulatory, congestion in his blood vessels have affected his lungs, heart and major organs. The patient is in multi-system organ failure and is expected to die within the week. Family has been contacted and discussions have began to discuss a withdrawal of care and terminal extubation.
His father and proxy has declined comfort care measures and demands continued treatment. A social consult as well as an ethics consult have been made. A meeting for Friday, December 17 at 1300 between providers and advocates has been scheduled. His father is demanding a second set of consulting opinions. The medical community has reiterated the dame poor prognosis and have been able to provide nothing but supportive treatment.
Curse breakers have evaluated the patient and are able to determine that the boy is cursed but they are unable to determine a course of treatment. Due to the patient's instability, his condition is considered to be dire and his chances for recovery are considered to be grim.

He would arrive at St. Mungos on foot. How his secretary-lady was able to keep up in those pointy shoes was anyone's guess. He would rather just stay short. He was holding her hand, the perfect little gentleman. He was not sure what happened to his trunk, he would assume a house elf had carried it off. Their progressive outlook was only for show afterall.
The hospital had a smell to it, it caused Gideon to crinkle his nose. It5 assailed his sensibilities, the dueling scent of bleach and death pervaded his senses. His short legs would dart down the hall, causing his father's secretary to stumble after. He could hear his sibling, not Vlad the little one he could not be bothered to recall the name of because he had no intention of letting it live too long. He wondered how the buried the small people.
He would breech the threshold and burst into the room, screaming father with the sort of elation one would expect from their cherub-faced youth, just not in the presence of their dying elder sibling. His father was stone faced and sullen, not a far cry from his norm in truth. Vladimir looked terrible, his flesh mottled, a mixture of black and grey that had eclipsed his face.
There was apparently not much time. That was what Victoria claimed. He did not care greatly for Victoria, his father's "young, pretty wife". he looked no older than the secretaries he always hired, he wished he would stop hiring such pretty ones, they never knew how to play good games. She was strange, not just the white hair, the seemingly porcelain skin and her golden eyes. She was strange because she was not like them. Little did he know she was not who she claimed. In fact, she had went by many names over the years, for the last 2 decades not a single one of them was truthfully her own. An alleged pureblood from some small Scandinavian country she purported this 'exotic' nature that his family had been historically uninterested in. She was not a Seer, nor was she a Legilimens. Their progeny was probably going to be useless, not unlike himself admittedly -- lacking the Seer talent. one does not spend lifetimes refining a bloodline just to throw it away. This must be what true love looks like -- gross.

It was hard to live with the guilt of it all. A parent should never outlive their children. He simply did not know how to cry and he knew it made no difference, nor did wringing his hands uselessly at bedside with the knowledge that there was nothing that he could do. How could his son be so stupid? How could he have been so foolish? Like father like son, they both made deals with hags thinking somehow they would be clever enough that they could outwit those dark beings. Left to the public opinion of cackling dramatics, he should have known that anything he found useful was equally if not moreso dangerous.
His world had come crashing down around him as he watched his son languish in that hospital bed. He would note the lack of friends that stopped by. Not a single letter hoping him well. Not a single visitor among his peers. He wondered what a lonesome existence the boy must have lived to lead him to such desperation. Vladimir's letters to him must have been all lies. the pretty girls he hoped to woo, the friends he had surrounded himself with and the academic, social and physical successes he boasted about were but a smokescreen.
Those hags would suffer greatly for what they had done, once he found them. He would take from them everything before he finally rewarded them with an end to their lives. Yes, he knew about the hags, he had provided the means by which they arrived in Hogsmeade with an intended destination of Hogwarts. He had expected them to sew chaos, to be just that... hags. To cackle on their broomsticks and be generally useless. To kill a few children and to raise alarm in the magical community that of course anything with the exception of wizard is profoundly dangerous. He never wanted to be so right.
Victoria was a gem really. She never once said "I told you so" but he always knew that she did not approve. They had their son together, he was unusual he had to admit. Already a toddler with a head of cotton white hair just like his mother and eyes that left hm fearful. Like burning coals, yet they burbled and laughed and cooed like any child. Perhaps it was a consequence of such careful breeding finally catching up to him, not that anyone had said that and not that he fully believed it but a grieving man always believe the worst in himself.
Gideon, the middle child was a shining light. Full of glee but a disappointment. No evidence of psychic skill and a failure to empathize with his fellows, Gideon scared him a little also. The common thread being himself, he had become disgusted in himself. This, all of this was his fault. Gideon would laugh and chat, live and stay for hours. He would watch Vladimir malinger, there was never improvement just a slow deterioration that felt like a fresh punch in the gut every time he glanced in the boy's direction.
The days would pass, evenings at home and Christmas at the bedside. Vladimir never got better.

Jurgen would try to visit, it was the right thing to do. Shortly after arrival his parents insisted on a nice meal at a favored restaurant and a bonding evening at home. Who could blame parents for preferring to spend what limited time they had outside of the hospital. Away from the dejection and the desperation, away from the depression and the blaming. Yet Jurgen always intended to find his way there. Only Pride had other plans. Within hours of Jurgen's arrival he had went to work.
The plan was simple -- tattle. The little worm, a snake being far too proud would tell his own and Jurgen's of course of what happened to their cousin Erin Ryan. Of Jurgen's attempted murder. Aghast, a grounding would have been kind for an attempted murder school officials had mostly forgotten until reminded and corroborated. Their memories were foggy, not gone. Of Erin who remembered nearly nothing and no longer bore the scar of Jurgen's assault, Gideon was a witness with an unaltered memory.
That was how Mathias got Jurgen Hess out of the way without needless blood. Winter break was spent in search of another school, perhaps Durmstrang. The former Gryffindor's story ended here.

Deaths in the hospital were slow and dull. This was the worst holiday ever because it was hardly about him, more interested in "the first Christmas they will remember" or "Vlad's last one" nobody cared about Giddy's holiday. He was asked about Jurgen's ability to ruin with knives, he confirmed that it resulted in him stabbing their cousin. That yes, he believed it was on purpose. He giggled before he remembered to pretend to cry. They offered to send him away also, to another school where he could make 'better memories'. That Thaddeus' political aspirations were no more. The somber memory of all that was lost, he was unwilling to go on and take what cold be his with his son's blood on his hands.
A bit dramatic.
It was not as if anyone intended for Vladimir to die. He made the choices he had. Had he not been so insufferable, perhaps he would have had friends. If people are not so self-involved, perhaps they could have pretended to care.
Would one believe that it was Gideon rather than Pride sped things along? It was the intravenous left unattended. A roller clamp spun, the contents of that little bag rapidly exhausted.
Oh no....
Boredom over. The clamp rolled back to approximately where it was, Gideon would fetch a chocolate frog while he waited.

This was how it would end for Vladimir. Nothing proud, nothing heroic. There was not even a reason for it beyond boredom. A want to speed things along and get it over with. An u willingness to wait. There was a cure, nobody seemed to care enough to consider him. Nobody was going to miss him enough to make a deal with hags, he would be nothing more than a fleeting thought, a memory.
The drugs, like a poison would burst through his system and undo the fragile balance that kept him just barely alive. He would seize violently and the nurses would be rushed to his bedside. There were limits to medical science even magic. All that their efforts did would prolong his death, they could not save him. Without a cure it would have happened within hours anyways. Hours Gideon was unwilling to wait. Hours that Gideon would no longer have to spend at this fruitless bedside vigil.
He would not make it. He never had a chance. His death was the consequence of arrogance and greed -- of those that wanted more because what they already had was not enough. Now they had nothing because they wanted it all.

He would watch his son die. It was not gentle. It felt premature even if it was what he uselessly waited for all these weeks. He recalled the sorrow expressed by his son when he came home shortly after Halloween. He was not paying attention, in truth he did not care. He did not pay attention to a lot of things, like how bad the cure he had become aware of the winter before had become. His mourning would not be quiet, it would be loud wretched wails none had heard before but for those who had a child and knew of such loss they would understand the noise without ever meeting him.
What was precocious to him was taken away by callous and cruel creatures for reasons he could not fathom but a part of him knew. It was but their nature. Their nature to be selfish and cruel. He would raze their homes, salt the earth with their tears and make them rue the day they crossed him. Rue the day once his affairs were in order. Until then he would feel hopeless and hollow, angry and... he would figure out what to do.
The holidays were dismal, the New Year dreadful.

Gideon was like most, morbidly fascinated by death. Not particularly mournful of his passing. There was so much else that was interesting in this world besides the loss of what, some guy he hardly knew and the pain of a father that was only bound by blood and social order. Yet that failed to cover how Gideon fades away with this story of an utterly dysfunctional family. Of the dark magic that Giddy would have grown fascinated in. Of the power the unexpected thorny king would have realized in his prime. Of the boy who ws everything they believed his elder brother already was.
Nobody would know. Gideon would fade from relevance, his existence had only piqued the interest of a few. Thankfully his withdrawal would be for the most part unnoticed, hardly felt. There would be a debate followed by a cold insistence that Gideon leave Hogwarts. That after the winter holiday he would move to Beauxbatons, a school known for its refinement and grace. The reasoning was simple, Thaddeus intended to use the geographical cure. To create some space between Hogwarts and his children. To create space between the hags and what was his, not that the hags would be a threat for long. Unlike some people, 'good people' and 'heroes' who had rules, Thaddeus did not suffer from the same disability. The same fragility of manner and character. With enough money, enough rage, all that would remain would be bne and ash.
