The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
Evie walked into the Great Hall while looking nervously around her. Her house would define her, and she wasn't sure if that was something she was looking forward to. The floating candles above her surprised her, she had no siblings to tell her about Hogwarts. Evie hurried forward, yet stayed back, she was eager, yet timid. As the Sorting Hat went through the list of students, Evie awaited nervously. The went up to the hat, and after a few questions, the hat yelled, "HUFFLEPUFF" Evie was happy, but she had no idea what Hufflepuff was, but she heard someone call them a bunch of duffers. Evie then made a promise to herself that she would work extremely hard whilst at Hogwarts. She sat down next to a few girls her age, Evie was so excited she was going to spend the school year at Hogwarts, and she couldn't wait to get started. She looked around as a couple more people were sorting into different houses. This school was already proving magical to Evie, the portraits along the wall were moving, candles were floating in the air, they had plates, but no food. Evie was still thinking about this while the Headmaster was speaking, then all of a sudden, food filled the plates and appeared in platters in the middle of the table.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
"Moriarty, Cyrus."
It took the boy a moment to realize that it was his name that had been called. He'd been rather bewitched by the great hall. He'd seen plenty of nice places in his life but something about here was... well, magical. Of course there was literally magic everywhere from the floating candles to the ceiling showing the stars but even beyond that there was something in the air. The place felt... casual. Sure, it was a school but everyone was talking, joking, grouped up at table. He'd been so busy taking it all in that he had to hurry forward with a nervous smile before they called his name again.
Admittedly after everything his parents had told him about the school and the sorting he'd been expecting something a bit more than a raggedy old hat. Of course he knew it was the genuine article after all the other students before him had been sorted but it failed to impress just based on looks. Shouldn't something so important be taken better care of? It seriously looked like it was ready to fall apart.
He sat on the stool as the hat was raised, waiting for it to come down and closing his eyes as it did so. The old wizard's hat was made for an adult as it easily fit over most of his head after it was plopped on his head, blocking what sight he would have as a surprising fell over him like the thin cloth was blocking out all the sounds in the hall. Then it was followed by just as startling of a voice.
"I see. Another Moriarty. It's been a few years since one of you put me on."
Even after being told that the Sorting Hat spoke it was still quite a surprise to actually hear it in person. Enchanted objects were a knut a dozen but he'd never met one that could talk. What a wonderfully strange thing. He sat there with it on in silence for a few moments, wondering if he was suppose to say something before he heard a thoughtful humming in his ears again.
"Not quite as ambitious as your father. A smart boy too, yes... and eager to meet people. Could make quite the Ravenclaw..."
'Father and mother were both in Slytherin...' he thought, wondering if they'd be disappointed before the voice spoke up with such timing and such a choice of words that it was unlikely to be coincidence.
"Are you sure you want that? I suppose there is a certain cunning to you... but that eagerness to know people. Really you would make quite the Hufflepuff. And that mind, eager to learn. What to do with you...
It was difficult for him to make a plea with the Sorting Hat. He wasn't even sure if he could. Everyone said it was never wrong ever. So it'd put him in the right house, right? His hands blindly gripped the edge of the stool, hoping beyond hope that it would indeed be the right choice.
"Mmm... no, no, it won't do. It's all here in your head. You have the potential for greatness. No sense in throwing all that away. Better make it... Slytherin!"
The last word he heard seemed to boom out more than the rest, filling the Great Hall before he hat was pulled off his head. He looked a bit dazed, looking around before his eyes locked on the cheering table clad in green on one side of the room. He couldn't help but smile at all the people who were excited to see him join. He got down off the bench, half walking, half jogging over, barely able to hold back his excitement as he sat down with them, receiving thumps on the back and having hands offered to him in congratulations on coming to the right side.
'Maybe this is the right place to make friends after all,' he thought, trying to accept as many greetings as he could as the Sorting continued.

As the gamekeeper closed the gates to the Great Hall, Roxanna slowly adjusted to the lighting and gasped. She stared at the magnificent ancient tapestry of the rectangular hall, with golden frames decorating the walls. Dim, half lit candles illuminated the ancient Hall. Roxanna continued admiring the astronomic roof, lost in thoughts, when--
Phillips, Roxanna!
Hearing the loud boom of her name, she jolted in surprised and tripped. Laughter filled the Hall. She was humiliated.
Brushing the dust off of her dress, she stood up and walked through the room with dignity. It seemed hours when she slowly approached the wrinkly, ragged hat. Her blood pumped faster and faster, and she finally sat on the bronze stool waiting for her. Shakily, she grabbed the old, ragged hat and put it on her.
"Hmm.... Let's see.... Interesting!" The old hat muttered.
That hat must be as old as the four founders themselves! Roxanna thought, as she studied the old hat carefully.
"Ah yes, very inquisitive, and yes, I was made by Godric Gryffindor." Roxanna was amazed as the old hat read her mind, and so she controlled her mind more carefully. "Very much like a Ravenclaw, that hunger for wisdom, and the great perception... But wait! Looks like you have had a very hard childhood, and withstood some hard times, like a true Gryffindor." The Sorting Hat was baffled, as it continued analyzing her.
"Red hair... sharp nose... bright lips... must be the daughter of Adalynn Malfoy, she was quite the student. She was a Slytherin, because she was ambitious, determined, and sharp-witted, just like---
"SLYTHERIN!" the Sorting Hat cried. Roxanna jumped at its booming voice, and got up to join the table of Slytherins. Through her insecure life, she had always felt scared of being not accepted, but it felt right when a group of Slytherins at the table smiled at her and embraced her.
"Welcome, sister."

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
After hearing the sorting hats song, Wesley got to thinking about which house he would be in. Was he brave enough for Gryffindor? Well he didn't think so, he had a fear of spiders. Was he loyal enough for Hufflepuff? He was loyal to his family for certain. Was he witty enough for Ravenclaw? He was certainly witty, but not nearly enough for this house in his opinion. You'll make your real friends, the hat had said about Slytherin. He never had a real friend in his life, so this surely wasn't the house for him. Where would the hat place him, what if it was wrong?
"McCormick, Wesley!" Wesley was drawn out of his thoughts as he heard his name being called by the wizard standing next to the sorting hat. His mother had told him all about the hat, so he knew exactly what was going to happen next. He swallowed hard and took a deep breath as he walked up as calmly as he could to the stool that was front and center in the great hall.
As he sat down and had the sorting hat placed on his head, the hat remained silent. He started thinking to himself Will I be in Ravenclaw like my mother? What if I'm not smart enough for them? What if I can't be sorted and I get kicked out and I can't show anybody what I'm capable of?
Wesley jumped a bit as he heard the hat speak. "Worried you won't be able to show your true power, eh? Very telling indeed", the hat seemed to say directly into his ears. Right, it reads your thoughts, his mother had told him that. The hat spoke again, "I read the thoughts you think, and the thoughts you do not. Your mother was an excellent edition to the Ravenclaw house, I'm sure she would be happy if you went that way as well, but she would be proud no matter the outcome. I also sense what path will lead you onto greatness, and that path will be..." The hat went silent for what seemed like an eternity before yelling out so the rest of the hall could hear it, "Slytherin!"
For a brief moment Wesley recalled what his mother had said about the Slytherin house. She had said in the past they had been unaccepting to anybody that wasn't of pure magic blood, but they had become more accepting over the years. Would they accept him even if he was a half blood? All worry was erased from his mind as he heard a chorus of cheers and applause coming from the table of Slytherins waiting to greet their new edition. He stood from the chair, smile on his face, as he walked over to his new family.

Alys smiled as she entered the Great Hall, almost skipping as she walked. It was, well, magical! She barely held back the laugh she felt bubbling up in her throat, as she reminded herself she was now eleven years old. She was almost grown up! Or so her father had been telling her for the past few years or so. She wondered how her father was doing, before placing such thoughts out of her head. Her parents were fine. They had to be. She was a magical school! She would have squealed if she was so grown up now.
"Evans, Alys." A voice cried out. It was someone or something important. All she knew was that she had heard her name. Alys walked quickly over to the chair, where she sat down and waited for the sorting hat to be put on her head. Her mother had mentioned it, but refused to go into many details-
I remember your mother. A sudden voice popped into her head. She held back a grin. This was it! She was going to be sorted.
That is why the call me a sorting hat. So, who are you hmm? The hat whispered in her brain. The sensation was indescribable. "You share your mother's lack of ambition. You have a good heart, or so you believe. Mrrr. I see a lot of dolphins floating around in here. A healthy imagination. I sense no extraordinary courage. Your mother was a wonderful addition to Hufflepuff. But, ah yes, there it is. Alys held her breath, waiting for the sorting hat to continue with it's thoughts. Instead it only made noises similar to what her father made when deep in thought. She wondered if the Sorting Hat knew that, but of course it did. It knew everything!
"I do not know everything Miss Evans. But you, you want to. I can sense it. Underlying curiosity. A drive that your mother lacked, and I thought you did to, until I found it. A purpose if you will. You don't wish to be great. You don't wish famous. You want friends, but you can get them from any house here. Your truest desire is knowledge. The knowledge to help guide you to your dreams. Oh it will take some time for you to find this drive, but you will find it. So you wish to know everything? I think I know just the house you are meant for, though you would make a fine Hufflepuff I believe...
"RAVENCLAW!" The Sorting Hat called out. Alys grinned. She didn't know half of what the Sorting Hat was talking about. But she had finally made it. She had achieved a goal of hers, to attend Hogwarts just like her mum. And she was going to have a fantastic time.

Ace took a deep breath, seeing the castle in real life was nothing compared to the stories her sister had told her. The ornate designs adorning the walls, the looming ceiling of the great hall above her, the little glowing embers of the candles eminating a warmth throughout the entire hall. Even with growing up in the wizard of world, Ace was still enamoured by the sheer capability of magic.
Ace cast a nervous look around her peers stood around her, she never really had been around people of her own age as not many shop owners in Diagon Alley had children, let alone those that were her age, there had been Mr Weasley at Weasley Wizards Wheezes and his family, but Ace didn’t feel confident enough to say anything. She looked around towards the Slytherin table, searching for the reassuring eyes of her sister, Cara, as she found them her sister mouthed the words.
You’ll be okay
Ace nodded in response and returned her gaze to to stool that was stood in front of the group. She watched as one by one her peers were sorted, the houses bellowing and cheering, it all overwhelmed Ace and she blocked all spins out until her named was called.
“Ace Fairfox!”
Slowly she made her way towards the stool, her hands shaking, her breathing laboured. She sat down on to the stool and the hat was placed onto her head. And then she heard a voice in her head.
-Aah Miss Fairfox I remember sorting your sister as if I was yesterday. Do not be alarmed child I’m certain you will prosper the same as she has.-
Ace found the gaze of her sister once more and Cara gave a reassuring smile and thumbs up.
-Hmmmm you have a mind troubled with questions that seek answers, but nervous as to search for them. You want to be like your sister, wishing for the same ambition, but yet want to make your own mark in your life. You’re a smart one you are, while not academically, but are world wise, often times better than book smarts. A strong loyalty to those you love runs through you, willing to do anything for them, a rare thing to find in those amoung your age. I think I’ve thought long enough about this.-
Ace took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
RAVENCLAW!
The house in question cheered, Ace walked over to the Ravenclaw table and sat down. Cara beamed at her from across the hall. Ace returned her smile, her nerves relaxed some what but of course were still there.
Ace sighed and prepared herself for the year ahead.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
Parcel was amazed at the sight before him. He looked at the tables behind him, where all the students attending Hogwarts was sitting. He recognized each house by their colors. When looking he saw that all the eyes of the students at the tables were watching the student sitting on a chair in front of them. The student was about to be sorted.
Parcel wondered if the hat talked to the student sitting on the chair. Well, it could talk, right? It shouted out the names of the house you was sorted into, so it had to be able to speak.. But do you reply? I don't see their mouths moving so how do they replay?
Thinking over this an that regarding the hat, the line of students being sorted grew shorter. The four tables were slowly getting fuller and fuller.
Each time a new student was sorted into a house, the table they belonged to burst into cheers. Welcoming their housemates to their new home.
Parcel felt some cold sweat on his neck. So many people watching, what if i does anything to embarrass himself?
While his nervousness was about to get the better of him, he woke up from his daze.
"Myth, Paracelsus Adger!"
His name was called. Taking a step forward and looking one last time around himself. He noticed that nobody really took any interest in his name. He shrugged his shoulders thinking that not every pure-blood family was as known or as important. He didn't care much for all the "clean family" and "superior blood", and neither did the rest of his family. But, you know, it would have been fun being noticed, or the center, or something. Getting embarrassed by his own thinking he gingerly went up to the chair.
Sitting down and waiting for the hat to be put on his head he took a deep breath.
The hat was almost on his head. Parcel felt the whole world go in slow motion. He could hear every heartbeat in his chest.
dunk.. dunk.. dunk..
"Was he going to have to speak to the hat now? was he going to have to explain where he thought he would belong?"
dunk.. dunk..
The hat was nearly on his head now, only a couple of centimeters left.
"What if he didn't get sorted into a house? What if the hat said he wasn't worthy of going to Hogwarts so he was sent home?.. what would his parents say?"
His back broke out in a cold sweat. His breathing became shorter from nervousness.
dunk.. dunk..
The hat was nearly there.. Only a hair or two away from his head.
When he almost felt it, when the brim of the hat touched the back of his head and almost nothing more than some hairs was in contact whit it.
"GRYFFINDOR!"
The hat went of his head.
Parcel was left with a dumbfounded expression, blinked a few times, and rose from the chair. In his bewilderment he almost didn't know where to go, but managed to follow the sound of loud cheering coming from one of the tables.
Sitting down and looking at all the smiling students wearing scarlet and gold congratulating and saying hello to him all he could think was. "Why didn't the hat ask him questions?"

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
OOC: I signed up two months ago and still didn't do this. About time I do...
Ava walked into the great hall along with the other first-years. The Feast was about to begin, but first - the sorting ceremony. Her last name started with an 'S' so she will have to wait for the others. At least it was not 'Z'. The time flew by and then...
"Silver, Ava!"
Ava's heart started racing. She knew this moment would come and she knew that she will attend Hogwarts, she will be in a house, she will learn about everything she always wanted to learn, she will be gaining and losing points, and... everything will happen. Let's get this show on the road, she thought and walked up to the stool, sat on it and put the sorting hat on.
"Ah, another Silver. Kate, Felix, Lavender, George, Ava Amalie, Matilda, Mariah, Moony... Your whole family. A lot of knowledge, that is for sure... Brave, loyal to your and - somewhat - your family's beliefs..." she heard a voice in her head. Wait... Matilda? she thought. From what Kate told her, the sorting hat will probably hear her. Ava had no idea who Matilda was. "Ah, you do not know yet. The time will come, child. But now, where should we put you... You are just like your family, but somehow you are different..." Ava was getting impatient. She wanted to do something different than just sit here, doing nothing.
"But you still are a Silver." the Sorting Hat said, still in Ava's head, but the next word was yelled for everyone in the hall to hear. "Slytherin!"
Ava gladly took off the hat and with a bit nervous smile walked to the Slytherin table to sit down next to her new 'family'.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
Ava Sharpee patiently waited for her turn, barely successful in managing to sit still. She was hoping for the best. She started humming a little tune before a professor looked at her telling her to stop. Finally the name she was waiting for got called.
”Ava Sharpee!”
She quickly stood and walked to the stool moving a loose strand of her hair out of the way. The hat was placed on top of the pony tail her hair was in. Her knee bouncing slightly while her hand twitched. She stopped moving suddenly though when the hat started talking. ”No need to be so jumpy Sharpee. Ah. I once put your mother... Anna was it? into syltherin didn’t I? I did and she turned out an amazing witch. But you’re different then her... you want to learn more about the world while she wanted to control it.” she nodded. I would love to learn about the world. All the plants, bugs, animals and stuff.
Suddenly the hat continued. ”I have the perfect house for you.” the hat suddenly shouted, “Ravenclaw!!!” I smiled before walking over to my new table. After that she watched the rest of the ceremony managing to sit still. Mostly at least...

Ava Sharpee
You are amazing. Others may say different but what do they know? They don't know you.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
And yet another student was called to the Sorting Hat. Skyler's turn was probably soon and though she seemed like she was calm and collected on the outside, she was panicking on the inside. What if she was sorted into Slytherin? Many of the others on the train told her stories about people from the infamous house. They were corrupt and rude... But this couldn't be true. Stories are stories. She had also heard stories from those wishing to be put in Slytherin about the great wizards and witches that had been produced from the house. They were cunning and held fast to tradition. They were not bad people. This eased Skyler slightly. She did not wish to look down upon any house and would respect them all the same.
"Murphy, Skyler!"
Her breath was caught in her throat as she suddenly froze. This was her turn. Her legs shook as they quickly carried her to the wise old hat. With a flinch, the hat was placed upon her head.
"Hmmm, you're the first one from your line in a looong time... I sat upon the head of a distant grandfather not too long ago. A fine Ravenclaw he was..."
Skyler was surprised. She was never told of a distant wizard in her family... She pondered what he was like. Ravenclaw, huh? She remembered what she was told about that house. Intelligent folks, they were. That seems like the place for her.
"You have a similar mind... You are a bright young lady with a craving to learn more and more... Though there is something inside of you... Something deeper; different... Your true colors seem to be that of a trustworthy companion... A lover of all and a loyal comrade... Ah, I see it now. You, my dear, are more than just an intelligent mind.
HUFFLEPUFF!"
The table of the Hufflepuff house members errupted with cheers as Skyler sat confused. This hat had to be wrong.
"The Sorting Hat is never wrong... Go forth and discover... You may learn more about yourself than even you know..."

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
