The old wood desk was cold under Edme's hand, that lay motionless. Today's lesson was boring as ever, not that she'd point that out. They were honestly kind of scared of the majority of the teachers at the school, as they all seemed somewhat intimidating, with all the power and such.

Her notes were a decent length, about three quarters of the page filled with their scribble of handwriting scrawled out on the lined paper. The corner was torn off, as she was using the small bit of paper as a canvas, drawing an eye. It was really all she could draw, but they did nice eye shading.

Her hair flopped in front of their face for the 50th time that class period, and they struggled to tuck it back behind her ear. It was like a curtain falling before her eyes at every moment, and if infuriated them.

It wasn't long before she realized they had missed a whole row of notes, and she struggled to write something onto the paper to catch up. Their handwriting wasn't very pretty, but it sufficed. It wasn't like her old schools had taught handwriting etiquette. It almost made them feel bad seeing people with perfect lines.

The lesson felt like it had been going on for hours, and the crave to just flop down and fall into a deep sleep for 100 years was slowly pulling at her. They were in a moment where it felt like their body was tired in separation to her eyes. Like her eyes were almost being pulled down by an invisible force, that just kept tugging. It was extremely exhausting.

Cross wasn't exactly a pleasure to teach. The boy's feet were up on the table, and the hood of his coat had been pulled over his face, only the tips of curly black hair peaking out from underneath. His scroll, ink, and feathered pen had yet to make an appearance, and it was clear from the tiny hissing noises coming from the hood that Cross was sound asleep. Or rather, he HAD been sleeping.

Until he moved just a little too much, his chair tipping backwards and sending him crashing down to the titled HOM floor. Like I didn't have enough bruises, Cross though sullenly, getting up with a groan. The entire class had turned to look at him. "What you staring at?" he demanded, raising a thick eyebrow towards a petite blonde boy in the front row. The boy's skin turned crimson as he quickly fixed his eyes to the front again.

Uttering a word which would have made his mother's ears bleed, Cross settled back down, pulling out a scrolled piece of paper. Not to take notes, god forbid. There was a quiet rip as Crpss tore the parchment apart. Thankfully, whatever he was doing kept him occupied for a few minutes.

Key word, 'a few minutes'.

It didn't take long for him to turn around in his seat and aim a tiny paper airplane towards the kid sitting directly behind him. 'How are you not asleep yet?' it said in a scrawly, messy script. It was only after the airplane was flying that Cross recognized the kid from the train. The one with the cool hair. Another airplane went flying. 'How you liking your first year here?'

Just before Edme was about to doze off into sleep, the loud clunk of a chair meeting the floor sobered them quickly. It was a boy who she had noticed had previously been lounging on the desk with his feet up, hood up, and had been dozing off for the majority of the lesson.

The stares were short lived as he told off a little blonde in the front row. Edme hadn't been staring for long, so at any chance she would recognize him, they wouldn't get a good enough glance for it. She went back to resting their head on her palm, barely listening to the lesson.

The students went silence, save for the quiet ripping of paper and the flapping noise it made when tampered with. Though it seemed nothing could stick for just a moment in this classroom, as the next thing Edme knew, a paper airplane had hit her square on the nose and caused them to flinch from grogginess.

She looked at the student in front of them, not willing to spare a glare. If she knew anything about bullies, it was that they fed off of anger. But taking a closer look, they realized this wasn't a bully at all, it was Cross, the same kid who had welcomed her onto the train at the beginning of the year.

Before confusion could reach their features, another airplane hit her on the mouth. Quickly unfolding both of them, she realized the first had said 'How are you not asleep yet'

Honestly, she didn't know herself. They had been so close to it before the chair falling, and afterwards almost had the intention of falling asleep.

The second said 'How you liking your first year here?'. He must have recognized her as well. They grabbed their own piece of paper, quickly writing some words on it and hesitantly throwing it at the other. The paper had read, 'I would be asleep if it hadn't been for your fall. Thank you for that.'. Edme didn't know if that was snarky or actual thanks, but they didn't really care.

She realized quickly they hadn't answered the other question, but brushed it off. She didn't really need to answer, what would they say? I ran into a random kid in the bathroom and had a short talk about hair, got two free chocolate frogs from someone losing a chocolate frog to me, had a picnic, and had a birthday in the library?
