As the duel kept going, more spells were fired back and forth along the platform. Luck seemed to switch between Pericles and Thomas, because in this round, Thomas' spell, although well cast, completely missed Adeline as she avoided it, while Pericles' Rictusempra hit the poor Gryffindor girl. As soon as the spell hit her, she would start feeling a strong tickling sensation, that would not only lower her accuracy when casting spells, but would also hurt her in the process.

Things didn't seem to go too well for Adeline, because as she contorted from the pain that the fire was inflicting on her plus the tickling, it seemed like she could do nothing this round. Luckily for her, Katrina tried to bring some relief to her duelling partner. Aiming her wand towards her, the fourth year cast the Healing spell at her, bringing her health up a little bit, even if the fire still remained wrapped around her body.

This round was relatively calmer than before, and Lydia had the impression that, if things were to continue like that, the tide of the duel could be turned at any point: right now Ravenclaw had an advantage, but Gryffindor wasn't ready to surrender.

Spectator Thread

Profoundly unused to remaining conscious this long, Thomas wasn't entirely sure what to do with himself as yet another one of his spells missed. This was getting obnoxious; at the next dueling practice, he'd be sure to do some accuracy drills to ensure that he'd actually start hitting his intended target more often. It was kind of killing his pride a bit, in truth.

"Nice cast, Pericles," he remarked, tone closer to observational than complimentary. His mild disappointment in himself melted away, a facade of bravado once again crossing his features as he called out to his opponents. "Have you given up on hitting me? I'd understand, it's not been working out for you so far I suppose," Thomas declared, the kindness in his voice poisoned by its potency, sickeningly sweet like a Cadbury creme egg coated in honey.

Katrina looked over to her partner and winced. She seemed to be in shock and wasn’t doing much of anything. Katrina shot a quick healing spell her way, hopefully that would make up for some of the damage and burns, the flames themselves Katrina figured she could handle.

“You got this,” Katrina said quietly, hoping the words wouldn’t be as empty as they felt. It wasn’t looking good for Adeline but Katrina had faith they could still pull through.

The burning was nearly too much for Addie to handle. She was stuck in place, unable to think, move, or act. She could feel the hot flame searing her skin and could smell smoke and charred clothing.

All of a sudden, a small wave of relief passed over Adeline, and looking over, she could see that instead of firing another attack at their opponents, Katrina had chosen to send a healing spell her way.

“Thanks,” she managed to say, though her throat felt tight from the beginning stages of crying.

Addie wiped the tears from her eyes as yet another force impacted her. Thankfully, this spell didn’t include fire, but instead, she felt a tickling sensation taking hold around her abdomen. This feeling grew as the charm took effect until Adeline was nearly doubled over, her stomach tense and stinging from the tickling.

“Will—you—quit—it?! she yelled over at her two opponents, gasping for breath between each word.

For an empathetic and nonconfrontational soul such as Pericles, Dueling had been a learning curve. It took time to perfect the art of reminding himself that it was, ultimately, a sport, intended to hone one's combative prowess. It was nothing personal. Yet he caught the sight of an opponent's tears, shining in the light of the fire that gnawed her robes. His eyes widened with shock. Distraction tugged at the young wizard's psyche, and he hesitated to chew his options. Rather than the blunt force of Flipendo, or a second searing wave of Incendio, he settled on "Rictusempra" for tickling her relentlessly. In spite of his nat one immense distraction and trepidation, and regardless of the unorthodox effects, damage was damage. Pericles tensed with a momentary cringe, answering Adeline with an awkward and airy "Ah, sorry...." A concerned look flicked for Tom, but when his teammate praised him, the Ravenclaw managed a hesitant smile with a relieved "Thank you. You're holding out excellently yourself." An attempt at disassociation was made, expression easing into something neutral. He could not afford to lose concentration.

This round went on similarly to the previous one. While the Ravenclaw team was still focused on attacking their opponents, the Gryffindor team had opted for a more defensive approach. Adeline didn't cast any spell this round, but focused all her attention into trying not to get hit. This proved quite effective when Thomas aimed towards her and cast his Knockback Jinx; the spell never landed on her, because Adeline swiftly moved to the right.

On the other hand, Katrina had decided to help her team mate once again, and cast the healing spell that brought some relief to the poor Adeline, who was still battling against the fire. However, Pericles didn't waste any time, and made sure that at least for the next round, Katrina would not be able to cast any spell: his disarming charm sent Katrina's wand flying out of her hand, landing onto the floor some meters away from her.

Thanks to Katrina’s latest move, Gryffidor had gotten one step closer to being back at the same level as the Ravenclaw boys. Nothing was decided yet, and the fate of the duel could go either way.

Hearing Adeline’s impassioned pleas for his silence, Thomas responded politely, "Ah, here’s a deal, I’ll shut up if you stop dodging my spells…" The last bit was spoken through clenched teeth, smile bright and strained. His irritation was hardly hidden—not that he was making an overt effort to hide it anyways. That spell was perfectly aimed! Thomas was convinced it would strike his intended target. Alas, even his best efforts could be outpaced by someone, simply… Better than him. He didn’t like the thought of that!

"It’s fine, it’s fine, it’s fine," he muttered, self-soothing his temper in the only way he knew how, talking to himself. This was becoming rather irksome.

Adeline could feel her frustration getting the best of her as she raised her wand to fire another spell. Things weren't looking good for the Gryffindor team, and if she was going down, she wanted to take one of her opponents down with her...or at least get one good shot in. But as her mind filtered through all the possible spells she could cast, another option crossed her thoughts.

Angry in spite of the fact that she knew this was for the best, Addie relaxed her muscles the best that she could, though the effects of rictusempra still made it difficult to get a good breath. Instead of focusing her attention on aiming her next attack, the second year instead watched out for any spells that were sent her way.

And sure enough, it seemed that she was the target of yet another spell–but this time, Adeline was ready. With exceptional grace, she ducked to the right, avoiding what appeared to be a knockback jinx that passed through right where she had been moments before.

The spell’s caster was less than pleased with the results of their attack, and voiced this frustration.

“So sorry, I don’t make deals with annoying gits,” Addie mocked with a slight chuckle, some of her vigor returning to her as she witnessed her opponent feeling the same annoyance that she had been dealing with all match.

Pericles' forte for duelling didn't go far beyond fancy footwork and adequate attacking. When it came to banter, the boy was left lacking, as he did his best to have an air of polite formality- a demeanor meant to drive home that setting someone on fire wasn't a personal offense. He could only glance worriedly between Adeline and Thomas as the two snarked sassily after one another. As when he had been Dee's partner, he generally let his teammate handle all the verbal ribbing. The younger lioness across the way was looking worse for wear. But the duel was not over yet: she dodged what may have otherwise been a devastating cast, and Katrina once again prolonged her partner's presence. With a disapproving frown, Peri jabbed out his aspen wand, incanting a firm "Expelliarmus." There- with the fourth-year's knack for magic out of the way, he'd bought them just a sliver more of time, a mere moment, but in duels that could be all it took to turn the tide. The Gryffindor girl's aggravated line was answered with a rueful, sheepish smile and his trademark daydreaming tone. "Terribly sorry, Katrina, but I'm afraid preventing your win is the point." With a glint of something other than apology in his eye, the Ravenclaw readied his wand once more.

Katrina had the feeling that the duel was starting to slip away from them. Being constantly on defense tended to make it difficult to actually win a duel. Katrina sent another healing spell Adeline’s way. Healing was and had always been her forte, but it still wouldn’t win a duel unless they were able to make other progress.

Katrina turned back to her opponents just as her wand shot out of her hand. “It does make it rather hard to actually WIN a duel when I’m constantly having to get my wand back, you know” Katrina said half heartedly in her opponents direction. It was completely their intent but it didn’t make it any less annoying.
