2021, Stage 1 Hufflepuff vs Slytherin: Match 1

The clouds moved over with an expert flick of her wand as Willow pulled off her blindfold only to be engulfed in flames. Perhaps, if her holy goddess activation involved fire, she would feel like she was blessed. Regardless of some minor setbacks, it seemed like things were starting to even out a bit for the vipers, for now at least.

There was a moment of guilt that shifted through her as she cast at a target so unable to defend themselves, though it was quickly dispelled as she realised could still feel the lick of flames at her own flesh. An eye for an eye and such. The ominous clouds which had swirled above her head also now hovered just above the other side of the piste and Sarah felt as though the snakes were taking back some charge of the duel. She dared not wonder how long this control would last as she twisted her wand between deft fingers and readied herself once more.

Willow: [d10: 1], fail
Ana had completely zoned out if she was honest. Prehaps it was the desperate desire to not deal with her immediate problems or the lack of sleep, but she jerked back to the present suddenly. Fortunately, it didn't look like she had missed very much. There was lightning now apparently.

Willow would search frantically for her wand, a task which Ana imagined was much more stressful without a partner to cover for her. Santario would attempt to capitalize on Willow's vulnerable state, sending a Ventus her way, which Willow managed to avoid as she ducked to search for her wand. Sarah had the same idea as Santario, but the execution was somewhat questionable. At least, Ana hoped she meant to aim the spell at Willow. Whatever the case, as it left Sarah's wand, it seemed to shoot towards her partner rather than her foe. Fortunately for the Slytherins, Santario easily dodged the wayward spell before it fizzled out.

Everyone was looking a bit worn out by this point in the duel, including Ana. Still, it seemed that it was anyone's game...

This duel was dragging on and becoming boring for the changeling. She would have preferred to just throw the match so she could just leave and curl up in some random hidey-hole and be left alone. Though something deep inside of her, more profound than the hag slug, fought the urge to leave Sarah on the Piste by herself.

Her Ventus was cast decently, but Willow managed to barely scamper out of its way like a rat. Santario licked her lips, hoping for a distraction to pull her mind away from looking at the Hufflepuff like she was a snack. Though, perhaps, she should have been careful what she wished for as she dropped into a squat to avoid the wayward spell from Sarah. She knew Sarah had not purposefully aimed at her, so she forced her anger into check and slowly rose back to her full height, eyes remaining on Willow.

[font=century gothic]Image posted by the memberSarah watched as Willow scampered around on the floor in search of her wand. The sympathy she’d felt earlier in the duel as she’d watched the girl frantically search fro her wand was however notably absent. She wasn’t sure she’d feel much sympathy towards the Hufflepuff until the singe marks on her skin were gone. She huffed as Santario’s fell, though perfectly cast, was narrowly dodged by Willow and was quick o cast a hint of her own at the blonde. A feat apparently far easier voiced than executed it appeared as something went horribly wrong.

“Shit,” She whispered to herself as she saw her spell flying from her wand of its own accord, directly to her teammate. “San, I’m sorry,” the words came quickly and quietly enough for only those on the piste to hear, but although she was sincere in her apology, her eyes remained on Willow, not straying to the fellow Slytherin beside her. She schooled her slightly shocked expression, knowing it was no good dwelling too much on her disastrous spell - it had done no damage after all - and instead kept her full focus on her opponent. The duel was quickly becoming something irritating as spells continued to fly astray or simply fail to begin with, and Sarah was adamant on getting it moving, and ending, sooner rather than later.

Willow just wanted her wand back in her hand. So badly she wanted her wand back. It was stressful enough not being able to cast and now she had to dodge spells while she was at it? Santario's was barely dodged, Willow's head ducking at the last minute. Luckily she didn't have to dodge Sarah's because her spell went at San instead. Could this duel end any slower?

The next bit of duelling was much the same as the last. Willow searched for her wand again and was successful this time. Santario cast a Ventus that managed to hit Willow, despite her best efforts to avoid it. Sarah managed not to hit her ally, and came close to hitting Willow, but the Hufflepuff would dodge at the very last second. All in all, it wasn't terrible and Ana was certainly grateful that it was less interesting than the earlier portion of the duel, but she was over it now and hoping that things would come to an end sooner than later.

"Don't worry about it" was all the changeling said to Sarah's apology. It happened even Bridget had accidentally slung spells at her before it was just thankful that San was able to dodge this time.

Seeing Willow being hit by their spells gave her a small instance of hope for the remainder of the duel but only time would tell. Regardless of the outcome she was going to make Willow earn if if she did win.

[font=century gothic]Image posted by the memberThis time Sarah managed to cast her spell directly at Willow, something which she mentally congratulated herself on because clearly she was struggling to tell apart her teammate and opponent. Less fortunately, Willow managed to narrowly dodge her spell and grab her wand at the same time, arming her for the next round. The Slytherin felt a heat flood over her body, phantom flames from one of ethnic last spells the Hufflepuff cast. She knew she didn't want to feel the burning lick of flames again any time soon and would do near anything to avoid it. San's spell hitting Willow did instil some hope in the girl that this wasn't a lost cause. They could still do this. Or Merlin knows they would go down trying.

Finally! Willow snagged her wand from the floor, raising it triumphantly to the sky. She missed her wand greatly. She didn't know how long she would be allowed to keep it in her hand, as the other team seemed determined to never let her have it. Just as she stood up, she was hit with Santario's Wind Jinx. "Oof!" She rubbed her chest to try and quickly work away the pain, but she felt a little off kilter after the hit.
