[font=times new roman]Wyatt rarely spent his free time in a public area. Not that he had so little time to himself, he just had to spend it alone, that was not nearly the case. Unsurprisingly, the boy who was known (if at all) by his peers as a twat and/or a loner wasn’t in any (not-secret) clubs, nor was he overbooked with dates or friendly get togethers. He had plenty of time to himself to be relaxing near people, but the idea never appealed to him.

Because of this, most of his time was spent in his dorm room that he somehow got to himself, while the rest of his dormmates had to bunk with one other person. Most people stayed away from his bunk because well… he was him. Would a pale, lanky, messy-haired third year with bags under his eyes be your first choice for a bunkmate if you were a first year? Not that his dormmates were that appealing either, but he was the most outright red flag of a person. And his dormmates would try to lure the first years to their bunks sometimes, being weird as they were and all. Wyatt made no such effort; he didn’t want them.

The next place he’d spend most of his time was the Chamber. Pros. It’s a good place to go if you want solitude. It’s echoey, so you know if you’re alone or not. Cons. It’s damp. It smells. It’s gross. The snake’s bones are still there. They’re huge. It’s awkward. Do with that information what you will. You’ll likely never have to go unless you’re a Parselmouth or know one that’s willing to let you in. Though it sounds pretty awful, Parselmouths are drawn to it. It’s not that if you’re a Parselmouth you’re into the smell of, like, 30-year-old snake bones. It’s just that feeling. It’s not “home,” but it’s comfort. It’s hard to explain.

The courtyard was unlike either of those places. Neither the chaos of the dorm nor the calm of the Chamber could be found there. It was just a place to be, and it was closer to Wyatt’s final class of the day, and he didn’t feel like walking all the way to the stupid dungeons. When a little purple puffball hopped over to where he was sitting, on the ledge of the pond in the center of the courtyard, he wished he made the trek.

As he questioned to himself what the hell this fluff roach was doing coming up to him, he pulled his legs up into a crisscross formation so it couldn’t touch him. It was an odd-looking little thing. He knew he’d seen something like it before, because who could forget something that looked like that, right? It wasn’t ugly, it was just… strange. Though he was not exactly new to the wizarding world, he hadn’t grown up in it, so colorful fuzz critters were memorable. All this to say, this wasn’t new, but it was not welcome.

Wyatt quickly noticed its owner, not far behind the thing.

“Would you manage your dust bunny, please?” He called.

It was tuning out to be a pretty nice day, all things considered.

River had woken her owner up this morning by sticking her tongue up Lucia's nostril, which hadn't been the greatest wake-up call and which had had her swearing to find nose plugs to join the ear plugs which she now always wore when she was asleep. At least then she wouldn't have to spend half an hour desperately trying to scrub out "River's Tongue" smell from her nose ever again.

But the weather was good, and Lucia's favourite skirt was out of the wash (not that she could wear it during school time, but still), and she'd managed to take a book out of the library which she'd been meaning to read for weeks now, and River had stayed silently in her bag while Lucia was in the library, so they didn't get told off by the librarian. Not that there was an actual rule against taking your pets in the library. It was just... discouraged. As she walked out into the courtyard, carrying a small stack of books (well, four, which wasn't really a stack, but calling it a 'stack' made Lucia feel pretty cool, even if it apparently wasn't very 'cool' to read lots, which didn't make much sense to her), Lucia shifted them into one arm and used the other hand to lift River out of her bag and onto her shoulder. Then she went back to carrying her books with both hands and let River look around, occasionally squeaking in her ear or launching out her tongue to catch a wild spider. Lucia had just caught the eye of a friend and smiled at them when she suddenly realised- River wasn't on her shoulder.

Eyes widening, Lucia almost dropped her books all over the courtyard. Where was River?! Usually she could be trusted to stay somewhere on Lucia's person, what with her utter lack of trust for just about any other life form, but- Lucia's books clattered from her hands, making her jump. And then- then she saw her. River, that evil little puffball, had managed to get into a bench, and was squeaking excitedly at the bench's occupant, a dark-haired boy whom Lucia didn't recognise. "River!" Lucia called out, and the pygmy puff suddenly seemed to remember that she was there and threw her a happy squeak before returning her attention to the boy. "What the..."

The boy apparently didn't know what a pygmy puff was. "Right. Yeah. Okay. Sorry," Lucia blurted as she gathered up her books and dumped them down on the bench before scooping up a protesting River in her hands and sitting down herself. "Rivs, you scared me," she repremanded her pet, who in response just rolled around a little in her cupped hands. Lucia then looked over at the boy. "I'm sorry. She usually hates just about everyone, so... I guess you're special, huh?"
