Round Six

As the next bout progressed, it became clear to Dmitri that the duelists have more than compensated for the uneventful first few rounds of this match.

Things were getting interesting.

For one, Sylvie, in the height of her magically-induced upper-respiratory illness, couldn't help but succumb to the curse. Before falling onto one knee, blacking out for a short time, the Gryffindor girl was able to manage a Meteolojinx, conjuring a raging thundercloud above the Ravenclaws.

Robert was able to let out another Flipendo which promptly hit Elsa before she could utter her incantation, which only seemed to enrage the girl more. An ominous-looking flash of light flew from her wand and connected with the boy's stomach. From his side of the stage, Dmitri could see the Ravenclaw visibly turning green before buckling in half. He had to look away.

He didn't want to see... that. Dmitri knew what the curse was, having used it against annoying first years before.

Mars, on their end, seemed to be getting the short end of the stick. Already looking quite worse for wear, things only went further south when their attempted Incendio Duo exploded instead of leaving the end of their wand. Flames now covered their clothing, merrily igniting anything it touched.

Now that he thought about it, maybe Dmitri could enjoy moderating this game.

This round sure gave him hope.

English ⋆ Parseltongue

Nothing feels right about failing a spell. It was like stopping up the flow of a rushing tide, too sudden and damming. Besides, it hurt like a b*tch.

"You really like me today, huh?" they sighed down at the licking flames. The blaze just burned merrily, a little too pleased with itself to understand sarcasm. It wasn't pleasant though, the heat against their skin, the aftershocks of the blows still ringing through their body. The world was starting to swim around them, going a bit blurry at the edges.

Mars picked up the back of their wand, and smack it gingerly against the side of their head. Not yet, not going down yet.

At the very least, Robert was going well. Well, as well as one can when vomiting slugs. But once again, that stunning blue light had found its mark.

"Great hit, Toukmond! Mars said, "You're really carrying this game." Come on then. It was time to change that.

• A Swing and a Miss •

Sylvie felt herself becoming increasingly lightheaded as time passed as she pushed herself to fight this illness with all she had.

Alas, it wasn't enough. The edges of her vision were growing darker and darker. With one last cast from her wand, clouds brewed above her opponents as she blacked out. She gave her partner a reassuring smile before doing so, however. "Wooooooo, yeeeaaaaahhhh. Go Gryffin..dor..." She cheered quietly.... Zzzz...

Robert's smile soon turned into a grimace as Elsa joined his elite club of successful spellcasters. Of course he'd heard of the Slug-Vomiting Charm, but this was the first time he'd seen its effects, let alone feel them. Needless to say, it was not pretty. The redhead most likely looked like a Christmas tree as he turned green and promptly began to live up to the spell's name.

Looking over at his partner, Mars didn't seem to be doing so well either. He winced sympathetically as their spell fired I had to out of the wrong side of their wand, setting them on fire. "See, you're supposed to cast at the other team, not yourself," he lightly teased them, grinning despite the gastropods falling out of his mouth. This duel was by no means over yet.

Round Seven

As the next bout progressed, Dmitri couldn't help but wince in sympathy.

Either the gods have forsaken the Ravenclaws or someone secretly jinxed their luck, because almost in quick succession, Mars not only had their next Incendio Duo blow up in their face again, they also took the full brunt of another Firemaking Spell courtesy of Elsa. Robert's attempt at an Extinguishing Charm—though successful—wouldn't have been powerful enough to deal with three flames on consuming Mars' clothing.

But their bad luck didn't seem to stop there. Sylvie, although seemingly blacking out as these happened, seemed to have left a parting gift for the Ravenclaws. A sudden, angry rumble would reverberate from above Mars, the thunderclouds above them rolling and sparking restlessly.

Wide-eyed, Dmitri threw out his wand arm and yelled, "Protego!" before an aggressive bolt of lightning struck the empty air above the Ravenclaw's head. Sparks would shower out from where the bolt hit the glittering magical shield, lighting up the exhausted and now-prone body of the Ravenclaw duelist. Though the boy was 100% into the idea of an eventful duel, he wasn't cruel enough to let an already-battered student get hit by a few thousand volts of electricity on the way out just to get his entertainment.

The results wouldn't have been pretty had he been a millisecond too late.

"Enough! Medics, please assist Mars T'ien off of the dueling piste. They will need urgent care as soon as possible."

Now, only a single student stood representing the house in blue. It wasn't looking very optimistic, but Dmitri knows more than anyone else that nothing was set in stone.

Especially in dueling.

"They will be attended to in haste by Sir Brumby. Keep your heads in the game." He'd tilt his head towards Robert. "Especially you. Don't let your worries affect your duel. T'ien will be fine." He said, probably overestimating the closeness of the two but too inexperienced about social relationships to care.

The only sign of Robert's sheer panic at his partner's demise would be a widening of his eyes and a catching of his breath. He was much more used to leaving his own teammate to fend for themself than the other way around, and this sudden turn of events left him shocked, to say the least.

The boy took advantage of the short break to recollect his thoughts and think through his new predicament. At least the Curse of the Bogies seemed to have finally put Sylvie out of commission for a short while, but now she was looking much better than before. At least Elsa looked like she was a bit worse for wear by now. This was going to be tough, but Robert wasn't about to give up yet.

Sylvie let out a yelp as Elsa shouted her back into this plane of existence. Had she fallen asleep? Zoned out? Whatever the case, she was back now. "Sorry, sorry. I don't really know what happened there..." She shook her head before surveying the dueling piste. Cloud was still rumbling ahead... Good. And it seemed Mars was M.I.A... Very good! "I'm fine now." She addressed her partner as she readied herself.

Round Eight

It seems that with the previous eventful bout, this one had to be extra dull to compensate.

All three duelists readied their wands once the unconscious Ravenclaw was taken off of the field and Dmitri could see the cogs in their heads turning.

Robert stood steadfast on his side of the piste, holding his own pretty well even after his partner was whisked off in a magically-conjured stretcher. Their misfortune didn't seem to inspire his spellwork that much as his attempt at what seemed to be a Dancing-Feet Spell bounded harmlessly to the side.

Both Sylvie and Elsa had Lady Luck going for them, making their decisions easier; what with there only being one opponent left to take down. However, fortune's favor didn't seem to last very long as their twin Flipendos suffered the same fate as Robert's spell did.

A monotonous round—more so following the previous one. But the Gryffindors have found a new heat and Ravenclaw doesn't seem to be giving up just yet.

Things were only going to get more interesting from here on out.
