Battle Of Wits
━━━━ THE THEORETICIAN ━━━━

Interacting: @Lucia Fox
Mentioning: @Delilah Stewart | @Liana Kerr
A lot could be said about the bespectacled Slytherin first year, but one thing was for sure. He did not like the idea of being second. Perhaps it was the recently concluded first round of his own Wargames that had stirred him. Or perhaps he just wanted to prove that he was better than Miss Kerr.
Whatever his reasons, Hui Ming came up to the duelling with a grim face, determination set in the grey eyes behind his glasses. For all that this event was called a battle of wits, facing down the fifth year who had introduced him to duelling as well as the Defence Prodigy of his year with his current spell repertoire was hardly ideal. But then, no one said it would be easy attempting to challenge the top Slytherin in their year.
A small nod at his partner, Miss Lucia Fox. He knew little of the upperclassman, other than that she was part of the official duelling team. It should have been a comfort, but then they were facing a veteran of duelling on the other side.
The smallest nod at his teammate, followed by a formal. “I might not be as experienced on the duelling ring as our opposition, Miss Fox. But I shall assist as well as I am able.”
And with that, they began in earnest.

And once again, after her first successful hit, the one that followed missed the target. Almost as if she had been jinxed to perform that exact way no matter where she went. The girl pressed her lips together, trying to suppress a rising sense of shame. It would do her no good to bash herself about this unfortunate tendency right now. Self-criticism could wait until after the duel, unless she wanted to get distracted and fail some more. At least Delilah landed a yet another spell, and it didn't look like Lucia would need much more before being rendered unconscious. On top of that, their opponent's attempt at disarming the fifth-year proved unsuccessful again. One could have said luck was on their side, but really, it was most likely just the Ravenclaw duellist's skill.
It came as a bit of a surprise when their standoff was halted and Matt got removed from the stage. This did not seem to follow any duelling protocols she'd ever heard of, and neither did the invitation for one of the spectators to replace the disqualified competitor. For some reason, Hui Ming chose to volunteer. Which made Liana wonder what exactly his game here was. It's not like he could really emerge victorious, not unless he got extremely lucky multiple times. Did he want to show off his... what? Reckless courage? That would be a rather Gryffindor-ish foolishness; she had thought he was more mature than that. Or did he just want to sling a few spells her way to see if he could take down the DADA prodigy that so many of their peers thought to be somehow superior, and thus a threat? Either way, she was certain that some attacks would be coming her way, and soon. She'd have to be ready for that.
The redhead gave a short nod of greeting to her housemate, before raising her wand again.

Suddenly, Mathew was pulled off to the side, and Cash called out for a spectator to replace him. Well, that was one way to go about it, of course. A boy who looked to be in around his first year at Hogwarts answered the call and stepped up onto the stage beside Lucia, even offering her a little nod, almost like the small bows which the less flamboyant duellers gave to their opponents. "Well." The boy - Hui, as Cash had introduced him - had an unflinchingly formal tone to his voice and language which immediately put Lucia in mind of upper-class, high-society (or middle-society, depending on how well Ebony's rather up-and-down reputation was doing, or even low-society if it was a really bad week, although Ebony made a point of never attending 'things like that' unless she had to) pureblood gatherings. "That's good, at least," Lucia offered now. Her words were semi-formal really, but could be taken either way. She could be friendly, or she could be professional, or anything in between. Only the hopefully encouraging smile on her face would tell Hui which of those she was.
As they were talking, however, Delilah - that was her name, right? - slung a Knockback Jinx towards the Hufflepuff which caught her off-guard, sending her flying backwards. Wincing with pain, Lucia fought to keep her balance, won, and then decided firmly that she was never facing a fourth (or was she in fifth?) year in a duel ever again. She'd just walk out, that's what she'd do. (Well, no. She wouldn't walk out. She wouldn't do that.)
In hopes of revenge, Lucia sent a pretty well cast (if she did say so herself) Disarming Charm in Delilah's direction - but the older girl just hopped out of the way and it spun on past her in its own merry little path. Traitor.

Battle Of Wits
@Liana Kerr | @Lucia Fox | @Hui Ming[font=times new roman]Seeing Matthew leave and be replaced by a familiar face, a first year who had approached her once in this very room. She was glad to see he ended up interested in duelling, but felt a bit sorry that he had to face against her, this duel really didn't seem fair with del on it. She had signed up with the hopes to be against some of her fellow fifth years, maybe even fourth years, but instead this seemed exceedingly unfair.
It was almost certain that Delilah would be healing the younger students, hopefully, they didn't hate her too much for this duel. she gave a small wave to ming, but remained focused, this duel should, hopefully, be over soonish. Del bounced on the balls of her feet, she wasn't sure if she would need to dodge anything, but she was ready to if she needed to. One thing about duelling was that it certainly was exercise, dodging the spells that were sent towards her, bouncing backwards and forwards when they are sent towards her. For being small, she did have a surprising amount of energy sometimes, other times she didn't want to get out of her bed but that was understandable, duelling gave her energy, it was exciting. although this duel was just a bit sad honestly. It was too one sided.
