Alec laughed, he seemed amused by the prospect of the situation within her words. Obsessed, He'd pause for but a mere second, as if taking it in. “Wow, you really are a terrible team player-” More laughter followed. Now wasn't the time to question what he was saying. He stood, though he seemed to be leaning slightly, his posture was more relaxed now, even while his shoulders were tight. The visible cues almost pointed to the ease that came with bad-mouthing Dealla, instead of being quiet. Or even the avalanche of good lucks from that one duel. What? Did she want him to shake her hand after the duel. He rolled his eyes, he wasn't sure how well that would do. Walking into the hospital wing, ah yes, the person I just had a duel with and bad-mouthed. Oh, nurse, I want to shake her hand. The very idea was amusing. With her claims it made the idea even more tempting. When they won, why not rub it in?

Dealla wasn't going to be able to beat him. He was going to make that clear. He supposed shaking Sam's hand wouldn't be a bad idea either, but she seemed feisty. He almost worried about the repercussion of an action like that for someone like her. Dealla would have to bite back her words, she wold have to go with it. Otherwise it was flat out saying she was just as bad as them- no- him. Rose wasn't apart of this. He needed to separate this part in his mind, Rose was not allowed to look bad because of him. Point was, Dealla had to shake his hand if he did it. Sam had no obligation and seemed the type for possible physical violence, so avoid at all costs. Possibly tell Dealla to shake Sam's hand for him.

“You're implying you'd rather me go after the inexperienced duellist? You'd rather your younger teammate then you.” Fine, it was was the was she would want to play it, he would oblige. Perhaps she felt it was unfair. Why not spread the love? Even the score... Not something he expected out of Miss Prince. Someone who seemed so big on teamwork and good sportsmanship.

When he landed his spell on Sam, something flashed through his eyes foreign and unfamiliar. He couldn't figure out if she had been in any duels last year or not. His memory failed him. Had she caught on fire yet in this duel? He couldn't remember either... Um- uh- “You'll be fine, the flames are barely anything, don't even waste your time on trying to put it out-” Alec's words came fast, he sounded... Worried? Maybe for the wrong reasons. The fire was stupid really people needed to not care so much. He just didn't want fire to be the thing that scared he away from duelling. Or drove to stupid decisions like putting herself out with a spell. The flames weren't going to last long, it was easy to see that. He placed it as going easy on her. He didn't think burning for multiple rounds was going to help anybody.

Beyond that, what the heck was he doing? Alec's surprise was visible, he wasn't as steady, as focused. He was- he was going to ignore that he said anything. He turned to his teamate, “Ros-” he didn't know what he was doing. Why was he asking for her? Was he trying to orient himself? He'd made the stupid mistake of saying anything at all just earlier. He would have gone on but his eyes spotted dealla's wand, and her spell-

It was going towards him.

He didn't have time he to react because he was caught up and- well, it hit him. He was sent stumbling backwards, his robes blowing slightly. He didn't understand. Hadn't Rose been the one Dealla was aiming for? His eyes flicked around. It didn't matter, he was caught up in a situation now. He was the one taking the fall. Why hadn't he been prepared?

Samantha ignored the conversation Alec and Dee were having about Alec being obsessed with the other and Dee not being a team player, because she knew that she wasn't going to be able to say anything nice about it and she had promised herself she would be nice. She wanted to duel, not fight. So that's what she did.

She aimed her wand on Rose and casted the tickling charm, just like she had done at the beginning of the duel. But then she had aimed at Alec and hit, this time she had missed her target. Samantha was slightly annoyed, but it wasn't to bad, at least this time she had been able to preform the spell. Last time she had failed casting the spell, so it was looking up a little.

However she didn't have much time to think about it before she was hit by Alec's spell. It wasn't just any spell, no, of course the boy had to set her on fire. She had never been on fire before! She could feel the heat of the fire that was burning on the side of her robe. What was she suppose to do?

Alec answered the question she had asked in her mind, but the young girl didn't appreciate his advice. Who was he to talk and tell her she will be fine! He had been the one who set her on fire. If it wasn't for him, there would be no fire. She gave him an angery look, "the flames wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you." Samantha hadn't noticed Alec sounded worried. She had never been good at estimating how people felt, even if the signs were clearly there.

When Dee asked her if she was okay, Samantha looked at her with a little smile. It was nice from Dealla to check on her. "I am fine, apparently these flames are barely anything." she said as she rolled her eyes. She still was little stressed out, but somehow the words of Alec had calmed her down a bit. Maybe the flames really were not that big of a deal. But still, she didn't want to be burned.

Alec kept passive-agressively chatting with their enemies, and Rose shook her head a little. What he said about Dealla did have some merit, but it didn't mean he always had to say it. But if they were winning, Rose wasn't complaining. He hit Samantha with an Incendio Duo, and now she was aflame.

He looked over to her quickly, beginning to say her name, for whatever reason. She saw the Wind Jinx coming towards Alec before he did. A look of panic in her eyes sparked there.

"Alec-!" she exclaimed, a split second before the Wind Jinx hit him. She was able to dodge to the side, but Alec wasn't. Wait- the Wind Jinx had split?!

Rose winced as the wind hit Alec. Hopefully he would be okay... "Keep your head in the game, Alec!" she said loudly.

Rose, who moments before, had been on fire herself, turned her wand upon herself. "Reparifors," she murmured, and felt strength return to her.

Jake put his face in his hands. The lull in the fighting had only lasted for a moment, but now it had started again. Dealla had said she wasn't going to fight back but she WAS. He tried to stop it...he really did...but they hadn't listened. What was he going to do now? And, even worse, Samantha's robes were still at least a little bit on fire, and though the flames were still small, small flames could become a blaze quickly.

Samantha seemed understandably stressed out by this first brush with real danger in the dueling chamber. Jake felt the same way....not Alec though. Alec said that the flames were barely anything. They sure didn't look like barely anything to Jake. (though Jake was often afraid, especially with fire, and unlike Alec, Jake hadn't yet seen incendio in a duel)

Alec even told Samantha NOT to put it out. What kind of advice was that? Did he want the fire to get worse? He WAS the one who had put it there in the first place...

What Jake didn't catch was the hint of worry in the boy's voice or the hesitant look that came to the Gryffindor's eye. Perhaps this time it might have been genuine advice.

What the Hufflepuff also might not have picked up on was the way Alec's eyes flicked towards his opponents, startled by the gust of wind that had blown him back. Though Samantha had burning robes to deal with, for the first time in this duel, Dealla had gotten the freedom to focus on her casting. And from the look in her eyes she'd been waiting a long time for this.

Alec was in big trouble.

It seemed what was on Alec's mind now was defense. Was it a plan or just plain instinct? If it WAS an instinct, it was a good one. The girls' spells both came hurtling towards him. Another vicious gust of wind from Dealla, and a knockback jinx from Samantha, fighting bravely despite her burning robes.

But Alec was QUICK...and Jake's eyes widened as he watched the way the boy was able to duck and weave. The spells came flying through where he'd been standing just moments before, and he was already gone. With all his focus on dodging, it was amazing what he could do. Was he baiting the Ravenclaws to attack, or was he struggling for his life? Was he in control or struggling to keep it? It was impossible to tell, but SO busy was Alec dodging the Ravenclaw's spells that he didn't even get a chance to cast himself.

Maybe that was ok though...because while the Ravenclaws were distracted by the brasher of the two Gryffindor duelists, Rose (recently re-strenghtened by her own healing spell) was waiting. She'd been the quieter of the two, staying mostly out of the fighting, offering support for her team-mate. And she came to his rescue now. As the Ravenclaws pelted Alec with spells, Rose would use one of the Gryffindor teams' own favorite spells to halt the Ravenclaws' comeback. This time it would be Samantha's vision that would go dark, unable to even see the progress of the flames that had been ripping at her robes as the blindfold appeared from Rose's well-aimed casting.

Luckily, Jake could see, and he saw that the flames had burned themselves out. Samantha would have started to feel some pain where they had been, but the fire was out. Luckily after the duel the healers would be quick to fix her up. Jake hoped they had burn-healing paste all ready for her and Rose.

Alec was in a compromising situation. At a disadvantage. Of course, this disadvantage was going to be used as a proper advantage for the other team, with plans to make use of this newfound moment of weakness. One Alec knew well since that had been what it was many times before, in other duels and beyond. It was commonplace. He couldn't do much to criticize it. When the round was over, a round full of dodging, Alec took in a breath. He hadn't had time to reply because he'd preferred dodging too whatever you called the words he'd been speaking thus far.

His eyes quickly overlooked the scene before him. Rose had cast a blindfolding spell, Alec's lips curled into a small smile. He had to take another minute to become serious and not smile, before looking Samantha's way. Rolling his eyes though she couldn't see it. “What~? Your biggest complaint now is that I'm exercising good sportsmanship. I'm sorry our casting is too much for you, princess.” It fit perfectly, they already had a prince. Besides, she acted as if that wasn't the general objective. Did she want Rose and Alec too forfeit? I would have been worse on their team then it would have been for Rose and Alec. He'd be practically doing it if he chose to do was avoid casting spells at her. It would be an easy win and therefore nothing well earned. There was an age difference, even just between them, but he thought it petty that someone might claim it was unfair. If you were a good duellist. If you were a skilled duellist. It would matter, strategy was more important than the actual wand-waving ever would be.

When they won, she would find that out. It wasn't just enough too join the duelling team, maybe practice every once and a while and expect results. Alec's head turned too look at Rose. He hoped his expression earlier had been enough to tell her she was doing well. Alec took a deep breath, his eyes would settle on his teammate, searching for signs of hesitance, or the general feeling of being unsure. They were going to win the odds were in their favor, she had to know that. “Are you ready?” He didn't want to keep on complimenting her because that was ending his whole soul in a painful and slow process. Therefore he'd check up on her instead, and if he knew how she was he could figure out where they were at. She wasn't inflicted with any spells, so she seemed fine for the most part. Alsoo perhaps he figured that his are you ready would come out as one of the motivational ones. Where a coach or captain is pep-talking a team... Yeah, he didn't know what he was doing, or why he was doing it..

When Alec called her a princess he couldn't be further off. She was nothing like a princess, her sister was more like it. Sam never liked to dress up or do anything girly, and begin a princess was very girly according to her. "I never complained, I just stated a fact. These flames are here because of you," she said slowely like she was talking to a five year old, who didn't know what 2+2 was and she needed to explain it.

Samantha aimed her wand at Alec, with the intention to use the spell that Dee had cast earlier as an advantage. Even though she missed, she didn't make a big deal out of it. She needed to keep going otherwise they would most certainly lose and that wasn't something Samantha wanted to happen.

Despite the fact that she disliked Alec, she had to admit he was a pretty good duellist. He had dodged a lot of her spells. But Rose defiantly wasn't bad either. She was so good that Samantha was unable to dodge her spell, even though the second year had tried really hard.

When the spell hit, the brunette couldn't see anything anymore. It was frustrating, she had no idea what was going on. She could only hear the others, but not see. Samantha realized how much she relied on her vision and was very annoyed. But she didn't allow herself to be too frustrated, as this was only her first time being blindfolded in this duel and Dee had been gone through it three times.

Did Alec just not get sick of hearing himself talk? A wonder, considering how little sense he made half of the time. "Not sure how you made the deduction that I'd rather you go after Samantha than I, but I think you need to work on your listening comprehension skills," Dee replied, rolling her eyes.

Sadly, there was little she could say about his dodging skills. Apparently aware that the wind meant they would target him, Alec focused on evading and easily managed to get out of the way of both her and Samantha's spell. Meanwhile, Rose returned to their old tricks and blindfolded Samantha. This really wasn't going very well.

Alec using the nickname princess had her twitching - there had been several people who had called her that in the past, but she quickly realised it was directed at Samantha this time. How... creative. "Don't worry about it," she told her partner in a low voice. "Their aim apparently turns terrible whenever they blindfold someone. Seems like the blindfold affects their vision more than ours." But at the same time, her thoughts were racing. What should they do now - how could they turn this around?

Oh Jeez Louise. They were arguing again. Rose didn't understand the meaning anymore to it. Honestly, it was a little bit stupid. Like, honestly. Just duel. You don't need to sass your opponents' faces off to win, you needed to Flipendo their faces off to win.

Alec didn't send a spell towards the Ravenclaws this time. Instead, he dodged. Inwardly, she nodded. That was a good decision, and he was able to dodge both of the spells sent towards him by the Ravenclaws. She couldn't quite make out what they were, but they would have been nasty if they had hit him, that was for sure.

Rose nodded towards Alec, signaling she was ready when he asked her. Sure, she was ready. Totally. Definitely. Completely ready.
