With your scholarship, it's in your dormitory. The scholarship if you save up is enough to buy you a pet, you get more as in each year

Some others earn extra money as well from being a dueling captain, quidditch captain, prefect, part Goblin, and professor

Then there's the ones who have shops in leaky cauldron to earn extra money
