There had been an ongoing talk of something invading a particular corridor at Hogwarts for the entirety of the past week. Some of the rumours said that it was a bunch of gnomes occupying the way, a group of deceitful Slytherins had said that a dragon was laying its eggs there, others presumed that a couple of students were kidnapped by acromantulas. But Enrico was certain that it was none of those. Had that been the case, the entire Hogwarts staff would have been already made everyone aware and confirmed (or denied) the rumours for the benefit of the students. Given the time it was, it seemed like the perfect occasion to pull of a major prank. Seeing as it was, after all, Halloween season. Truth be told, now that Enrico had started thinking about it, every whisper he heard started to make more sense, and Enrico's curiosity was more ambitious than that of whatever killed the cat. He was sure the saying went along those lines.
The Hufflepuff took a good look around him, noticing that he was the only person showing interest in actually uncovering whether or not the rumours were genuinely true. Everyone seemed to be literally unphased by the talk, clearly, the lot had already lost their muse for adventure within a month of school. Enrico was ready to witness a grand creature to appear out of the dark corners of the never endless stream of cobblestone. Whereas usually, he'd need a solid distraction - mostly because he couldn't risk someone snitching on him and telling a prefect that someone had gone into the forbidden area - this time no one seemed to even bat an eye and within a few minutes, the corridor was left empty, with the students shuffling to whatever class they had next. Enrico was supposed to do the same, but missing out on one boring lesson or another was at the top of his list of things to do. Especially, if it was to bask in the glory of a new discovery. All that time spent with the lions of Gryffindor started to kick in some sense of chivalry within Gathorne.
Enrico took out his wand, knowing that it won't serve him usefully, took a deep breath and stretched his arms around and about, his bones cracking in the process. He was certain that whatever laid within these walls, was going to embark his name in the history books, and maybe History of Magic could at last stop being so boring (even though he actually enjoyed the subject, at times he found it miserably dull).
Moving forward, the fires that normally lit the hallway seemed to have diminished... or put out. Enrico almost felt like he was some detective trying to discover the truth behind a hundred years old case, looking for clues here and there, raising his eyebrows suspiciously at every creaking sound that he could hear. One thing he could very much notice was how cold it quickly got. It was so unnatural Gathorne had actually begun to worry - something he usually never did. He flicked his wand trying to produce some light, but the tip of the wooden stick only buzzed a tiny beep of bright white, in a way as if it told him that it was too busy sleeping and didn't want to be disturbed.
"Stupid wand! Just this one time, silly!" All efforts were eventually useless. His own whispers echoed, and though he hated to look back, the slight glimpse he managed to achieve exposed him to more darkness behind him. Enrico was now trapped in shadows.
He swallowed emptiness, his entire body quivering in fear, face red, hands shaking and he could feel eyes staring at him. There was the instinct to ask if anyone was there, but the first year flinched at such showings of bravery and preferred to cower back to where he came from. But when he turned around...
"BOO!"
Enrico fell on his bum, his wand throwing itself away in the process as he let out another one of his pesky screeches.
"Please don't eat me! Please please I have kids!"
Then nothing happened for some time, and Enrico opened his eyes slowly. Fearing the worst, only to find a ghost of a small knight, the size of a dwarf from the many fairytales he had, with an even shorter sword and a head bigger than the rest of his body. The creature was flourishing in the moonly colours of white and glowing in blue. He was entirely covered in what seemed to be like armour, helmet and all.
"What- who are you?!" Asked Enrico, miserably.
"A knight! Can't you see, peasant? I am a knight!" The dwarf ghost spoke in a weird Scottish accent that scared Enrico. "You're the first one to dare find me, it's about high time someone did so. I have a proposal for you, peasant, but first, another must arrive..."

For his part, Eliphas had heard precisely zero rumours about the corridor. Maybe he just didn't pay enough attention, or perhaps it wasn't as wide spread as some had made it seem, either way such adventurous talk was not what drew him down the darkened corridor that day. No. Instead Eli was led on by one distinct thing. A voice screeching "Please I have kids!"
That was a bizarre enough thing to hear at Hogwarts, nevermind when the voice itself belonged to one who could not have been a member of the faculty. It was just perplexing enough a statement that the young Ravenclaw could not simply pass up the opportunity to investigate. So he hurried down the hall, thankfully between classes and in no real rush, to find a boy clad in Huffepuff colours stood before a-- a--- ghost!
Though there were plenty of ghosts here in Hogwarts, and though he had seen many of them here and there, he had always done his best to respectfully ignore them. The very thought of their existence boggled his brain and made him feel a weird sense of dread. He did not like to be in their presence, and to see one so brazenly stood in the way, before a pitiful First Year, made him freeze in place.
Eliphas had stumbled in on their conversation part way through, and thus beyond the initial shriek which had caught his attention he heard only the final part, mention of another needing to arrive. He gulped down his fear, had the ghost seen his approach?
The Ravenclaw took a few steps back, finally able to move though not too much. The only thing which kept him from running away entirely was the sight of the miserable Hufflepuff boy. He couldn't rightly leave him alone, now, could he?@Enrico Gathorne

Through the transparency of the little ghost, Enrico saw a beacon of light and hope. Someone had been brave enough to follow him. Someone whose face was familiar, yet Enrico could not put his finger on who the mysterious figure was. For all he knew it was an illusion of his desperation - just another trick of the mischievous ghost who he had encountered. Maybe this was destiny - maybe someone hoped and prayed that Enrico gets to taste his own medicine and be picked on - whoever it was certainly wished to traumatize the poor boy as well.
Ghosts had always sent shivers down the Hufflepuff's spine. Be it from stories to now actually having to share an entire castle with them. The idea of it perplexed his mind and he couldn't understand why the grown-ups couldn't just call ghostbusters or something of the sort - surely, there must have been some sort of wizardry alternative for ghost hunting, right? If there ever was a reason to get rid of them, Enrico's ever so terrifying experience showed a clear example of why.
Once he saw that there was a chance to receive help, Enrico did not hesitate to call for help. He didn't care if he disturbed the naps of the portraits, or further annoyed even more ghosts from their resting. All he could care about at that very moment and time was to shoo the dwarf spirit away.
"Hey, you!" Enrico shouted, panic still stuck in his voice, "don't just stand there! Do something! Or call for help!" There was also a clear sense of frustration within his squeaks for help. Had he seen someone being tormented by a ghost, he would have immediately gone to assist them (that was a lie and a half), not just pretend nothing was happening.
"See dwa- Mr Knight, help is on the way!"
"It sure is," replied the short ghost in a rather cocky manner and an even mischievous voice than the one Rico usually put on when he was up to no good.
"Here's your quest, peasant! Find me a body taller than mine and I will never torment you again! The sturdier the better..." concluded the ghost, pointing his little at the same figure Enrico was shouting at, before jumping off into a puff of smoke of sapphire blue.
Gathorne stood up as fast as he could, almost losing his footing in the process, and supporting himself up using his hands. His wand had been on the floor and so he immediately bent down to pick it up, in case somebody- something else, tried to be funny.
"You're not a-another ghost, are y-you?" Asked Enrico frightened, his skin drenched into an even paler white than his original one.

It took the boy crying out directly to Eliphas for him to snap out of his own dread and put one foot in front of the other. He took back the distance he'd lost in his cowardice and then some, picking up the pace as he rushed toward the Hufflepuff and the Ghost at a speed even he was surprised by.
"Hey, leave him alone!" he shouted, adrenaline beginning to course through his veins now that he had been thrown into action. All of his fears were cast to the wayside all at once, and his boots clacked against the stone flagstones at their feet. In his mind he couldn't help but envision a hoover, and how swiftly the situation could have been taken care of with such. Just suck the bugger up, and leave it for the caretaker to find.
In the same thought, he realized that wasn't a very nice thing to do. Even if the ghost was tormenting a fellow student. Could you claim self defense in such a case? Was that even plausible? He didn't know.
As quickly as he'd spotted the ghost though, it up and vanished with just a few words said to the other boy. In his haste to approach them, and with the rush of blood thumping in his head, he didn't quite catch what was said at all. By the time he reached them the ghost was gone, and Eliphas was left feeling rather silly as a result.
Had he scared it off, or had he rushed over for no reason at all?
"Are you okay?" he inquired all the same, ignoring his own embarrassment to ensure the other was in one piece. "He didn't hurt you, did he?" The question posed his way broke all semblance of composure Eliphas had, and he began to chuckle with a shake of his head. "No I'm not a ghost, you look as pale as one though..."@Enrico Gathorne
