Velvet grew up under the watchful eye of two overbearing parents, Avalon and Leo Gardner. After the birth of their daughter, Avalon and Leo had a revelation that would end up influencing their parenting style - neither had done anything "excellent" within their lives, nothing that would leave a metaphorical fingerprint. They believed that things had to be different with Velvet. Living solely in the magical community certainly helped with this plan, allowing Avalon and Leo to teach Velvet about magic from a young age - at least compared to others without such access. They fueled her excitement to attend Hogwarts from the very beginning, feeding knowledge into her like coal to a furnace. As a child, all she wanted to do was please her parents, to make them happy; nowadays it extends much further. She grew particularly fond of magizoology and herbology, this interest has only grown along with her - to this day, her cold exterior melts around creatures of all shapes and sizes. Naturally she idolizes Newt Scamander and plans to do her best to follow in his footsteps! As Velvet grew older, she became a bit overwhelmed by the pressure set on her shoulders to "make a name for the family." By the time she was 8, sneaking out of the house turned into a nightly experience, eager to feel rather than hear. Half the reason for her reckless exploring was the hope that she'd run into a new magical creature or plant...or something! She never did find anything new, but that discouraged her none. She became quite skilled in stepping quietly, hiding, and climbing trees, thanks to said exploring. In fact she didn't get caught doing so for nearly three years, unfortunately after she came home sporting a collage of bruises, needless to say they have been much stricter and protective since. That certainly didn't stop Velvet from trying again and again though, stubbornness is a prominent trait within her.
