Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 2

As one, Samantha and Dee changed target to cast at Rose instead. It would perhaps surprise the Gryffindors, and anything that changed the flow of the duel was a good thing at this point. Her spell went off almost flawlessly, and finally, some of the time she had spent training her aim seemed to pay off as the spell hit Rose perfectly, leaving the girl on fire.
She didn't have much time to gloat, however, seeing (or not seeing) as the world went dark around her - again. At this point, Dee didn't know who she was more annoyed at: Alec, or herself for her constant inability to dodge blindfolds. Still, didn't the Gryffindor know any other spells? Did they not have any sense of flair, any desire to win with style rather than by brute force?
Pride of Pendrast? One-trick Ponies of Pendrast was more like it.
Frustration boiling inside of her, Dee prepared herself for the attacks that were sure to come.

Samantha Salwis & Dealla Prince
ReducioSamantha Salwis removes Dealla's blindfold.
Effects: Dealla is no longer blindfolded.
Even Alec seemed to have calmed down. There were no taunting words to Dealla this time. Although Rose's spell had missed its target, Alec was encouraging his partner. He didn't judge (externally at least). And his encouragement seemed to be working. Rose nodded her head, with a new confidence...
But she hadn't seen Dealla's spell coming, and soon a fire was lit upon her, small green flames working at her sleeves.
In the moments before, Jake had seen Samantha's face turn red, and his own face had turned red FOR her. It must have been really awful dueling with everybody watching...If you made a mistake, or your wand didn't work, then everybody saw. To mess up with everybody looking...? It seemed horrible.
But now he saw what horrible really was. the Hufflepuff boy's face was pale as he couldn't take his eye off Rose's sleeve. The girl kept her composure, but her face perhaps told a different story. He didn't step in or move, just watched those flames, his left hand drifting down to wrap around his wand. He wasn't allowed to use it, but....
Bravely, the Gryffindors dueled on. Two knockback jinxes were fired once more, in the direction of Dealla. This time it was Alec's wand that would fail him, the knockback jinx not firing when he needed it most, to take out his rival. Somehow it was Rose who was able to cast, fighting despite the flames on her sleeve, shooting a knockback jinx towards Dealla.
Perhaps Dealla had been taking her time to listen, because when the spells were cast she dodged again. Maybe she knew by now who those spells were going to be aimed at. But even though there were two incantations, only one spell came her way, and she just managed to duck out of the way beside it. With the missed spells, and Rose's burning arm, there was a momentary lull. It was just enough time for Dealla to turn her wand on herself, and attempt to undo some of the damage that she'd been taking. Her vision would return to her seconds after, as Samantha also took the moment to regroup and removed the blindfold once again from Dealla's head.
This all happened in the blink of an eye, and Jake missed most of it.
He was too busy watching as the flames on Rose's sleeve began to die out, not spreading any longer. Jake sighed with relief, watching her for signs of how she was feeling. He really hoped she wasn't hurt...
But the fire was out. The fighting had even stopped. Maybe things were going to be ok after all.
(It was a good thing Jake couldn't read minds)

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 2

Well, at least she'd thought that attacks were sure to come. It was a desperate move, choosing to heal herself, knowing that her healing ability was very limited compared to the damage her opponents' spells could do. She'd done it anyway, and dodged to the side at the same time, towards Samantha, following her instincts, but still expected at least one spell to make contact. They'd managed that much before, not that it was much of an achievement to hit a blindfolded opponent.
But while she had clearly heard two incantations from across the field, neither of them seemed to come even close to hitting her, and when Samantha (thankfully) removed her blindfold once again, Dee blinked against the light for a moment, confused.
"Thanks, Samantha," she said, giving her partner a half-questioning, half-grateful glance. "Did they... cast at you?" It was the only explanation she had, as little sense as it made. Samantha, however, appeared unharmed. "Great job dodging, in that case."

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 2
Time and time again results were proving something other then the reality the Gryffindor wanted. Time and time again proven wrong, and yet he'd chosen to ignore it. Feigning ignorance was easier then facing the reality that there was a chance that he'd underestimated the second-year Ravenclaw in front of him. Spent too much time encouraging Rose to not let her see her faults(She needed to be quick and learn. Much as anybody else did. Taking it into account right away, the oversight vanished. Alec had chalked over it.) Overestimated his own abilities. There was no way he could just- not have a spell work! Not have his wand cooperate with him!
Hex code:#A0A9B8
He'd poured hours into practice, you have to work until you physically can't. Yet, here he was. He swore his heart was beating a million times in a minute as he tried to swallow the lump in his throat. They were in a bad position. Both their spells either not ending up right or hitting the target. The conclusion was something hard for him to take in. Why was this happening to him? Why now?
Alec's hand gripped onto his wand. He was trying to steady himself. Duelling wasn't just wand-waving and incantations. It was a game of mental strength. If he let the pressure get to him, this was how it was going to go. He was going to keep messing up. “Ey! Prince, try a little harder! Maybe if you were able to dodge when you were supposed too you wouldn't be going blind every other round!” The edges of Alec's lips curled into a smile, now, that was more like it.
It didn't even matter if she could come up with a witty reply back. The fact that he was able to say it out loud in a way that made himself take a pause, think on it reflectively, It stood some ground. It was true enough. He was just lucky his memory hadn't failed him on last names. Lucky he was able to peek and see names on most of the house teams, enough to remember what had been written down for all of her's.
Alec's eyes jumped back to Rose, he would see her, and finally turn his head her way. Sympathetically. He wasn't going to give any more empty encouragement. “You tried, and it would have been pretty good if it hit...” He said, and left it at that, trying to indicate encouragements though his tone held less of it. His tone indicated respect for even the process of the trial and error, nothing more. Yes, maybe he wasn't fully backing down from empty encouragements, but it was enough to get him started. He wasn't sure if she would be able to take what he actually had to say anyway.

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 2
Samantha didn't pay any attention to the flames Dee had created with her spell. The young girl focused on her partner. She would remove the blindfold as soon as she had the chance, so Dee could see again. Contrary to what Sam had expected no spell hit Dealla.
After she removed the blindfold she smiled, happy that no spell had hit her teammate. "No problem!" It was best for the team that both of them had a good vision and Samantha wasn't going to leave it up to Dee to remove her own blindfold again, even if that would mean Alec would make a comment about it again.
"No, they didn't cast at me," she said and was very surprised when she realized it. "I think they aimed for you, but I only saw you dodge one spell." Samantha tried to remember what had happened, but realized she had been to focused on getting the blindfold off that she had no idea.
The brunette was about to reply to Alec, when she reminded herself she had promised to be nice. "He is just jealous that you are able to dodge spells while you are blindfolded, I mean it is really cool that you can." The young girl deliberately spoke louder then normal, so that Alec could hear her as well.
The fact that not a single spell had hit her our Dee this round gave her hope. "We can do this!" she said to Dee as she got ready again for the next round.

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 2
@Alec Mason | @Dealla Prince | @Samantha Salwis
The fire on Rose's arm went out, to her relief. She steeled her gaze at Dealla again. "Flipendo," she said quietly. Her spell seemed to have been the only one cast towards the other team. Dealla was miraculously able to dodge her spell. Samantha tugged Dealla's blindfold off, and Dealla healed herself.
Alec was now feeling frustrated again and trying to spark a chat that was a little bit more aggressive than passive aggressive. He wasn't wrong. Had this been the third time that Dealla had been blindfolded?
Anyway, he then turned to her, switching demeanors quite quickly. It would have been a little unnerving if Rose was paying attention. She had been focused on the duel, and wasn't really thinking too hard about Alec's mood changes. He did seem less enthusiastic than usual, however. Rose nodded and smiled at him. His encouragement, though appreciated, was getting quite repetitive. She knew he was really trying to lift her spirits, but it was effective without him commenting on every spell she cast.
She shoved this thought aside. He was just trying to be sweet! She had no place to complain about the frequency of his compliments. "We got this," she said. She wasn't really sure what to say to Alec- his own spell hadn't really worked. Rose was okay with that. He had been very consistent about casting spells before, and one little flaw was okay with Rose.

Jake didn't know if he was imagining it, but something seemed wrong with Alec. The spell he had tried to cast hadn't worked, and now he gripped his wand tightly as he faced down the Ravenclaws, who had started to work on their defense. And then...oh no...the mean words were starting again. Jake's eyes flickered back towards the Ravenclaws, and especially Dealla who Alec was talking to. Dealla had said she wasn't going to argue back last time but would she really be able to do that when he was saying those things right to her face? Jake hoped she had meant it...maybe Alec would tire himself out of trying to make her mad.
Then, Jake didn't know WHAT happened first, but all of a sudden spells were flying. Alec, perhaps desperate to prove himself and hold onto the momentum of this duel, had sent an Incendio Duo towards Samantha, who was trying to send a tickling jinx towards Rose. Perhaps it was the green flames starting to eat at the side of her robes that would cause her spell to go astray...
At the same time, a gust of wind would hurtle towards Rose, who managed to duck out of the way. At the last second however, the gust would branch into two directions, and before Alec could react he would be pushed back by an errant gust of wind! Jake gasped, he had heard that this could happen, but he'd never SEEN it. Alec was unable to stop the unexpected gust and his robes would billow as he stumbled backwards. Jake was sure Dealla couldn't have done that on purpose...could she...?
But while Alec may have faced the blast from Dealla, he would soon see that the flames he had sent were beginning to slowly spread. Once again, there was a fire in this duel. Jake leaned forward nervously. Why couldn't that spell be banned?
Rose, lucky to have escaped the spellfire, was able to turn her wand on herself and heal herself after her encounter with the fire which had just recently been extinguished. She would feel rejuvenated, any remaining burn on her arm beginning to cool and fade.
Everybody had taken some attacks now, and the ongoing duel might be beginning to take its toll. Soon they would be getting tired, and what would happen then?

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 2

So they had aimed at her, Dee thought as she turned to look over at the Gryffindors, amusement spreading on her face. Two spells aimed at her when she'd been blindfolded, and neither had hit? That had to be some sort of record.
Her grin only widened at Alec's words. He wasn't in any position to call her out, and both of them knew it. Apparently she was still getting under his skin without even saying anything, and that alone was incredibly satisfying. It was one of her uglier sides, rearing its head, one that she hadn't let run free in quite a while. She'd almost forgotten how fun it was to rile people up, how much she enjoyed looking for weak spots and pressing into them until something cracked. It'd been a while, but Alec, yes, Alec was asking for it, and her decision to hold back her retorts disappeared as fast as it had come.
"So," she called back across the stage, the sound drawn out and lazy. "You blindfolded me three times, and in all of those three times, you only managed to land two spells on me between the two of you. And you're telling me I need to try harder?" In truth, perhaps Alec was trying too hard. His casting, his insults. This was a boy who had something to prove. Not that Dee noticed, not that she would have cared if she had. "Maybe if you weren't so obsessed with me, you'd manage to focus enough to do more than blindfold me."
But, enough talk, time to get back into it. Her wand raised, Dee focused back on their target. It seemed to have been a good decision to switch to targeting Rose, it had worked out well for them so far, so she'd stick with it for now, although her choice in spell changed. The Wind Jinx was a new favourite of hers, one she'd only learned recently, but it had some rather fun effects.
"Ventus." The focused blast of wind shot from her wand, swirling towards Rose. But wind acted in odd ways, and suddenly, the gust split into two, one veering off towards Alec instead, and two blasts of wind were much harder to control than one. Perhaps it spoke of her own fixation on Alec that this second gust ended up being much better aimed than the one at Rose, perhaps it was chance, but either way - it connected with the boy. The first time in this duel that no wand was aimed at her, that she could focus fully on casting rather than dodging spells, and suddenly, duelling was much easier. She breathed out, satisfaction rushing through her, reminding her of what duelling felt like when things went right, when her spells did not backfire on her and she was not blindfolded. What it should feel like. Exhilarating.
Sadly, it appeared that Samantha had not fared as well, and Dee winced when she noticed the flames flickering on her partners' robes. "Are you okay?" she asked, shooting the girl a quick glance. Things may have improved, but they were still far from having the upper hand. "Seems like they finally got bored of repeating the same two spells all over again."
"One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar."
