Meet Me in the Library
Soon to meet @Eliphas Dune

If Simon Kincaid wasn't in the Rehearsal Room located on the Fourth Floor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he could probably be found in the Library. He would go to the Library for a good many reasons - sometimes to meet up with a friend, sometimes to meet up with a study buddy, sometimes to study, sometimes to research, sometimes to read, sometimes to write his music, or sometimes just to relax.
That particular afternoon he sat with a notebook of parchment open and a quill rested, already inked and ready should he have any thoughts to write down as he skimmed over one of the books. This particular one was called The Unnatural World and he paused as he got to one section. Simon sat up a little straighter, learned a little closer towards the book that rested on the table, and skimmed over the wording once more as he traced his path with his finger. It had said that dhampirs were much stronger than humans (which he knew) and it was thought that in addition to inheriting their vampiric parent's strength, they can also be as strong as, if not stronger, than a pure vampire.
Finding this interesting, he jotted it down into his notebook and wrote down the book in which he found the information, just in case he ever had to go back to it.
Simon then set his quill back down and this time paused to shuffle through his bag where he pulled out his water bottle. He took a sip from it as he looked around the large school Library.

Meet Me in the Library
Though this was far from his first venture into the Library at Hogwarts, Eliphas could not help but feel remarkably small and out of place among the many towering shelves which formed its interior.
Some reached right for the heavens, extending so far that the thought of scaling a ladder to the tippity top made his stomach twist uncomfortably. Others were sectioned off entirely, what lay within their shelves off limits to the likes of him.
There were a few good nooks he had discovered in the few other times he'd come here. Truth be told, he might have visited more had not the Ravenclaw Common Room a rather sizable library of its own free for their perusal. It had the added benefit of being much, much smaller, and thus easier to manage, simpler to find what he needed from it.
But, obviously, it did not hold every piece of knowledge imaginable. It did not house every book a boy might need. Or want, as was the case with today's venture. One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi... Written by a former Headmistress no less. Eliphas had never considered himself to be at all interested in plants, that was until the train ride over to Hogwarts wherein he'd met one @Orla Finch who had mentioned sneaking one of her mother's herbology books into her luggage.
Something about that cheeky act had left the boy curious. What exactly had it been about the world of plants and fungi which had led his fellow First Year to want to sneak it in the first place? Evidently there was something he was overlooking, and the Herbology classroom hadn't done much to satiate his curiosity in that regard. When the Ravenclaw Library hadn't given him the answers he'd sought either, he'd turned to one of his fellow Eagles - an older student, of course - and asked if they might recommend something to help him.
Thus, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi had been brought to his attention.
Yet as Eliphas walked between the rows of bookcases he felt any hopes he might have had uncovering its whereabouts dwindling by the second. There were so many books... He didn't even know where to begin. A look of bewilderment set itself upon his expression, as he turned full circle and tried to make sense of whatever system lay in place to help categorize them. There was always a system.
Maybe he should have asked the librarian for help, but the idea of sauntering up to a member of staff about something so trivial as a book he didn't even really need was unnerving. So it was that he continued to gawp around like a fish out of water.

Meet Me in the Library
Approaching @Eliphas Dune and offering help
Simon didn't pay much mind when he saw the boy walk by. The amount of traffic from one end to the Library to the other was not uncommon, due to it's immense large size and high volume of books. Still, when Simon caught the boy from the corner of his eye come around a second time, without any book at all in hand, that's when he seemed to realize that the boy might need some assistance.
There had been many a time he had helped someone with their books, whether it was to reach from a higher shelf (since he was taller than most his age), help locate a specific title or section (he frequented the Library - a lot), or help carry a heavy stack of books (which he could easily do due to his dhampir nature) he liked to assist where he could.
Simon glanced down at his workspace quickly as he stood up and he pulled a notebook over to rest atop his other notebook and then set off towards the boy. He approached the brown haired boy with a smile. "Hey there," he said to him, using a lower voice so not to startle him. "Saw you walk by a couple times. Need any help with anything? I might not be as helpful as the librarian or one of the library elves but I know the place pretty well," except for the Restricted Section which was - well - restricted. He often wondered if anything rested within those books that would be beneficial to him. "I'm Simon. Simon Kincaid. Second Year Hufflepuff."

Meet Me in the Library
Soon enough Eliphas was all sorts of turned around.
Hadn't he passed this shelf before? He recognized that sign, and this book spine, and... He huffed a disgruntled sigh and raised a hand to rub the back of his neck. Now how had he managed that, exactly? Had he taken one too many rights? He felt as though he hadn't, but now he wasn't so sure.
So lost in thought was he, that he didn't immediately catch on to the approach of another. Thus when the words were uttered, even with just a quiet tone, he jumped slightly and turned to face the older student. Though his cheeks flushed, he tried to downplay his embarrassment and act as though he hadn't been frightened at all.
"Hello," he responded, with a sheepish smile to accompany the word. Apparently he was right in his assumptions, he was in fact going in circles. It was like the Staircase all over again, dizzying and confusing. This time though it was his own two feet which had betrayed him, not some enchanted steps.
"I uh... I don't know where to find the Herbology section" he confessed, glancing up and around them as though to emphasize the grandness of it all, before settling his gaze back on the student. He was quick to introduce himself...
"Simon. I'm Eliphas, Eliphas Dune. Ravenclaw..." He looked down at himself and his obviously blue-trimmed robes and his cheeks flushed. As if that hadn't been obvious, doofus!
"Do you know where I might find this book?" He held up a slither of parchment with the books title on, all too aware of all the Second Year's time he was wasting in the process.@Simon Kincaid

Meet Me in the Library
Offering assistance to @Eliphas Dune
The boy extended out a piece of paper with a title written on it. Simon remembered lookingat the book the previous year for an Herbology assignment. Yes, he remembered it now. "Follow me," he said, trying to remember the boys' name. Eliphas. That wasn't like all the Jacks, Olivers, Henrys, and Williams back home in London. A lot of the staff and students at Hogwarts seemed to have fancy like sounding names and it made a name like Simon seem far too simple.
"Ah yes, follow me. Follow me, follow me. You're right; Herbology would be the right section," he said and handed the piece of paper back to the boy before leading the way. "Know what your issue is?" he asked and then smiled because that could sound wrong. He didn't mean the boy had an issue, he meant more, do you know the reason you're having difficulty. He hoped the boy wouldn't take it the wrong way. "Earlier, there were three very immature first years and they were taking the signs and switching them. That got the library elves upset and the one stormed around the Library and removed all the section signs so they couldn't keep messing with them."
Otherwise, of course a Ravenclaw would be able to find his way around the library. "Here you go. Herbology Section. Straight ahead." It also didn't help that it was sort of tucked away in a corner, where all the other sections were right out within the main area of the Library.

Meet Me in the Library
What luck he'd had thus far, in finding helpful individuals willing to assist an out-of-his-league First Year. First Jack, now this... Simon. He decided rather quickly that he quite liked Simon, he was quick to the point and seemed knowledgeable enough, beyond that usefulness though he was polite and pleasant. Some of his fellow First Years had proven that they could already have a rather mean spirited side, did that wane off over time? Or had he simply lucked out with the older students he had encountered?
No matter.
"Thank you, Simon," he said as the pair set off through the shelves in search of the Herbology section. Well, Eliphas was in search of it - Simon seemed to know exactly where he was headed. Even so they ducked and weaved until they reached the region which was slightly more tucked away than the rest.
"This looks like a nice quiet area, he remarked, as though the rest of the library hadn't been similarly quiet. Perhaps it was just the privacy which further supplied that feeling. "It would probably good to study in." He couldn't spend all of his time locked away in the Ravenclaw Common Room, after all. As tempting as that was. Besides, he'd already begun to make friends outside of his House, maybe this could be somewhere they could come to study together, as a group!
"Switching signs? That seems rather foolish, doesn't it hurt them more than anyone else? It's not like they know the layout of the library yet!" He chuckled lightly, shaking his head at the thought of the poor House Elves chasing after wayward students. At least Eliphas' level of mischief never delved into the realm of truly inconveniencing others. He was more the search hidden corridors and unearth lost secrets type.
"Herbology, perfect!" Now to find the book itself. He glanced over the spines, a great many of them, eyes narrowing in focus. He realized after a few moments that he had quite forgotten to thank him properly.
"I appreciate your help. What are you studying? Is it something interesting?" He turned back to the shelves, hoping to kill two birds with one stone. After all, Eliphas Dune could certainly multitask, if he hadn't been able to then he'd never get anything done!@Simon Kincaid

Meet Me in the Library
Book searching with @Eliphas Dune
"I think that this would be an excellent area to study in. I call dibs over tot he far corner just that way," he pointed to his favorite study spot. "Use it when I'm in here to just chill or you know, a snogging session or two." Probably too much information and at that, Simon paused a moment. But nonetheless, that was his favorite place in the Library when he didn't need to spread out a bunch of books because it was tucked away from the large beautiful windows that let in all that sun. The sun wasn't kind to those like Simon.
"It was no problem at all," he said of the boy's thanking him. He would do it again in a heartbeat. Simon was drawn to others and had been around those that helped each other his entire life. It was ingrained within him.
When the boy asked what he was studying, he kept his eyes remained forward on the shelves, trying to also locate the book in which the Ravenclaw was searching for. He just met him but most were intelligent enough to perhaps piece things together, especially a Ravenclaw. Still, bending the truth was like a lie and Simon didn't want that option.
"I uhh, I was looking up some information on vampires," he said truthfully. And then he'd add some details to maybe make it not so apparent. Real details. "I've got this notebook and page after page is full of questions I have about the wizarding world. I like to come here, pick a topic, and start investigating."
"What about you, mate? Did you grow up knowing about all this or is it new to you?" He knew by now that that even if you grew up in the magical world, Hogwarts gave you such exposure to so much magic, that it still gave one a sense of wonder.

Meet Me in the Library
Eliphas stuck out his tongue and made a yucky face when Simon mentioned using the spot for snogging. He was still at that delightful age where the idea of girls being anything more than just friends was disgusting to him, it seemed silly and he'd sworn that he'd never ever kiss one! Primary School mentality was still well and truly within his mind.
Even so he perused the area close by and spotted a nice armchair he'd like to use for himself. "Fine, then I'll take that seat!" Back to the shelves he turned, noticing that his companion was also hunting down the book with him. It was a long title, surely it should be quick to spot among the sea of spines.
Simon's explanation as to what he had been studying made the First Year's eyes light up. The connotations didn't immediately come to mind, because his brain immediately took him to fantastical stories he'd read in the muggle world instead. No way Vampires could be real, right? Just fiction!
"Vampires? Cool! Mum always says I'm still too young for most of those kinds of books... She wouldn't even let me read Dracula!" He pouted slightly at that thought, before shaking his head. It didn't matter, one day he'd read them!
But then Simon continued on, and the way in which he explained the notebook made the young Eagle all the more curious. Questions about it? It almost sounded as though Simon was studying them as though they were... real? "Wait, are you telling me that there really are Vampires?" The thought was... dizzying. Maybe a little exciting?
"No, I didn't know magic even existed until a few months back! My Dad's a wizard, but he kept it a secret... You're new to it all too, then?"
As he was speaking, his eyes fell over a spine with more than enough words to fit the bill. He reached up on his tiptoes, after all it was fairly high up on the shelves, and pulled it down. Huzzah! Just what he was after. It even had some embossed flora on the spine and the cover, some of it was inset with gold leaf! Cool. It felt fancy.
"Here it is! Blimey, look how thick it is!" He could sit and read for days and probably not even make much of a dent. "What was I expecting from something named a thousand anything?" He gulped, and then turned toward the little seating area the nook housed, curious if Simon would join him.
He didn't have to, of course! But Eliphas was interested in the whole premise of Vampires being real...@Simon Kincaid

Meet Me in the Library
Hopefully not scaring poor @Eliphas Dune
"There's probably at least a thousand," he said, smiling at the Ravenclaw boy's reference to the title. Although, joking aside, if he looked at it from a perfectly logical and systematic point of view the way that an author of nonfiction might or a Ravenclaw might, Simon might see that it really wasn't a joke at all - just a straightforward sort of title.
"There's some crazy cool plants within the wizarding world," he said, wondering if he should let the boy be. In some ways he still seemed curious to talk to him, but he also knew he had some research to undergo and some didn't like to be bothered when they were trying to look something up. "Yea, Dracula isn't much for kids..." he had read some of it and put it down himself. "I read that a little back in London before coming here. But I don't mean the fictional ones." Oy, no. Was he going to scare the boy? "They're not super prevalent or anything." Maybe it was best to change the subject a little. Yes, change the subject a little.
"Can you believe that DRAGONS exist? Blows my mind, mate." At this current state in time, that's maybe what Simon thought about doing someday - being a dragon tamer.

Meet Me in the Library
A thousand pages. The way in which Simon said it made him chuckle a little, but no doubt there was truth in his words. Unless it was more like a glossary of plants? No, no it definitely seemed thick enough for at least a page per plant. That made five hundred leaves of paper... He turned it so he could get a better look at the pages, and then nodded.
"I think you're right, you know. Do you know much about plants?" He wasn't exactly looking for all of Simon's knowledge to be shared, a lot of the fun of learning was researching for Eliphas, he was simply curious where the other boy's interests lay. Hogwarts had way more room for interests in basic subjects than muggle schools did. Herbology and Potions and Astronomy and Flying! It was so much cooler than simply Maths and English though he did enjoy those too.
He was realizing as he considered it though, that many of them did overlap. Potions was like Chemistry, wasn't it? And from what little he'd read on Transfiguration, it was very much along the same vein as Physics. Eliphas knew exactly nothing about physics...
"I think I'll read it soon, maybe not this year though..." Maybe next? He'd be older next year, after all. He'd barely finished that thought though when Simon explained what he was actually researching. The real thing? His eyes widened slightly.
Eliphas' thoughts on Vampires had always had a weird dichotomy to them. On the one hand, Vampires were terrifying right? The very idea of something being out there looking to feed on blood and the like sent shivers down his spine. But on the flip side.... "I imagine a Vampire would have time to read the entirety of this library, wouldn't they?" he said, with a slight grin to mask the more cowardly of his thoughts.
"Are any of the other supernatural beings real? I mean, I've seen Ghosts first hand... And I've heard Unicorns exist. And Dragons! Now Vampires..." He shook his head some at that, mindboggling. Utterly mindboggling.
"Can you imagine having been raised with all of this as .. normal?"@Simon Kincaid
