There was no way that River would succumb to the fear of being blinded again. Nope. She decided to turn her attention towards bringing more people to her current team. Which she had to think twice about to remember what team she was currently on. She second guessed which of the two spells to cast, and perhaps that was the reason it did not go her way. She’d picked her target, and with the slightest hesitation she cast flipendo, aiming at her fellow perfect Xailah.

The spell went in the general direction of the girl, but whizzed past her as the stealthy gryffindor dodged out of its way. While all this was happening, she was attempting to keep an eye out for anyone targeting her with a green-sparks charm, though she was happy to see no one had it out for her at this moment. River took her chance to look about the field, and was confused to not see Pericles. He was just there, and then he was gone. She’d been too focused on the game to notice him leaving towards the forest, but as she looked around she noticed the back of the familiar boy leaving the game. River turned her attention back to the game, assuming Peri just had business to attend to.

The frustration was building, bubbling up inside. Her body was a cauldron filled with boiling water without a lid, things started to spill everywhere. “STOP MOVING!” The initial target was the girl she didn’t know, but for some unknown reason, her hands were unable to stop shaking. She missed, again, almost hitting Pericles’ scary friend but as expected, she dodged effortlessly. How embarrassing.

Never once her mother taught her one or two spells nor showed her how it looked back when she was still a kid. Only a little amount of magic ran in her blood, but does that make her unworthy? Was that four eyed guy right about everything he said? Though he didn't technically point out that Aurora was the equivalent of a house pet, he did give another example of another half blood. Born from a muggle born mother and a half blood father, she could call herself a quarter blood if that was a thing. The memory of how degrading his words were just increased the hatred that she had. He talked about her friend as if she were less than a human, an unacceptable behaviour that will never be forgotten. But on the other hand, when it came to herself, Aurora was scared that someday she would end up knowing the fact that it was all true. That she didn’t belong here, she was tainted.

Emotionally exhausted, Cassandra’s fake sadness was interpreted otherwise. Knowing that another person was disappointed in her again, she couldn’t help to let tears streaming down, just a little, but maybe the Slytherin beater wouldn’t fail to notice that. “I’M SORRY I DIDN’T MEAN TO” Quickly wiped it with her free hand as she walked to the other team, the boy’s kind welcome just put her off the edge, though she didn’t say anything other than sending a glare his way.

She watched her spell split, as normal, the game seemed to be a lot more balanced than she had originally expected it to be, but unfortunately, her 2 spells missed each of their opponents, welp, that was disappointing, her hit streak was certainly faltering recently, but it'll be alright, she will just have to train her accuracy a bit more in her spare time before the duelling championship starts up again.

Accuracy was a funny thing, you could train and train and train on hitting your target and you could still miss in a real duel, proof of concept was her duel last year against the gryffindors, Everly, despite being a 1st year, managed to dodge dels 4th year spells repetitively, it was quite impressive, although eventually, she gave in to the side effects of the spells that they had sent earlier in the duel, if she remembered correctly, Delilah had sent roughly 15 spells in that one duel, it was a bit crazy honestly, but that duel was a brilliant lesson in strategising in Delilah's opinion.

This game was fun, that was undoubtable, she didn't expect it to be nearly as fun as it was, she thought it would be fun of course but not as fun as it ended up being.

Round 5

There was some bitter irony about the following round, a weird stand off of a sort and it was clear that the game might be over very soon. Sooner than the fifth year had anticipated if he was being honest. It started off as a five against four, but luck favored the bigger team which was an awful fate as one green spark charm after the other exploded in the face of their opponents. All of their spells would hit their mark, whereas Aurora would bide her time dodging the spell that had come for her. She was lucky in the sense that her focus on the defense had saved her from switching sides. Not so lucky would be Liana who would get hit by one of the students on the Flipendo team, specifically she had been hit by Scarlet. Alan would watch as the students would switch sides. He assumed that Liana would now regret having hit River, after all if she hadn't she would have at least one more companion on her team. But now she was all on her own, facing off against a team of eight and Alan was glad it was her who was on the knockback jinx team, otherwise it would have ended rather painfully for the girl. Wouldn't it be a fun twist of events if Liana actually managed to turn this situation around? He truly hoped for an interesting end to this game, as he took a glance over at Flash, wondering if he was alright.

It was quite pleasing to see the entirety of team Verdimillious right on target. Satisfying even. Xailahs mouth relaxed into a content curl, while she watched each spell pick off the other teams players. A modest nod was given to each shiny new member- a welcome. They were all very good players; a boon to whatever team they found themselves on, no doubt. The game might as well have been over then and there; but a former (now returning) member of team Verdimillious had other thoughts. One spell from team Flipendo would meet it's target. A moment that should have been for rejoice, and congratulations, turned into one for confusion; as Liana made her way to the other side of the field. By herself. Well now- how in the world did she manage that?

What a cruel twist of fate. What gods did that poor first year anger? Eight against one. It was hardly a fair fight; and little Liana looked quite funny standing there, across the pitch, without a teammate at her side. Xailahs lips slanted slightly, into a crooked frown; disappointed to witness such a sight, but also secretly thankful for not having Liana's luck. The lioness would call across calmly, to the lone Slytherin; in the same fashion a dentist might use when speaking to a patient. "I strongly advise you to stay very, very ssstill." No, it was not meant to be a threat. Advice? Yes. A threat? Absolutely not. Even if the ominous undertone, implied otherwise. Xailah was not one to bat first years around- not like she did with the other years. She was simply speaking with Liana's best interest in mind. Presumably. Xailah, with some hesitance, shifted her grip on her wand; her golds flitting with a softening light.

Come to think of it, Liana was quite fortunate, given the unfavorable circumstance she was now in. A bombardment of green sparks wasn't nearly the worst thing the yearling could be facing. She should have been thanking Merlin that Flipendo, was not her home team. The poor kid would have been sent flying into next week- hell, next year, if the tables had turned in their favor. She was a lucky kid, in a not-so-lucky kind of way. Now, if only she could be swayed to stay put. It would make Verd- her life much easier.

This time, her aim was true. And for the third time today, Liana hit River; hopefully, the upperclassman would not hold a grudge against her. She really seemed to be the only one that the cherry wand was willing to inflict harm on during this game. The girl was too focused on her casting and aim, however; and thus she failed to evade an incoming attack, which hit her rather painfully, almost knocking the wind out of her lungs. Unsurprisingly, the attack had come from Scarlet, making the redhead regret not having cast at her instead. It was too late now; she had to switch sides. Luckily, Scarlet was switching as well - which meant that Liana's need for vengeance may be satisfied very soon.

A lot of people seemed to be switching over, actually. All of the Flipendos joined the green side. And when the shuffle was done, the first-year found herself facing eight teenagers, all by herself. This was not going to end well for her eyes. She was suddenly gripped by an intense urge to squeeze them shut tightly; but then, she could not attack. This was a hopeless situation, yes, but Liana did not intend to back out just because she was facing a certain defeat, at least not in a game, not when the spells cast at her would only harm her vision for a short while. Hopefully, not all eight of her opponents would attack, and perhaps some of them would miss, too.

Xailah was insisting that Liana stay still. For what purpose, exactly? So that more spells could hit her? They only needed one person's sparks to touch her, really; no amount of evasive maneuvers could prevent the outcome of the next round.

''I sure will, thanks for the advice,'' she responded in a deadpan manner, not at all intending to make it any easier for team Verdimillious than it already was.

Wow, everybody against just Liana, Delilah certainly didn't expect it to become so lopsided so quickly, it seemed like almost everybody hit their mark pretty nicely. There were only a few misses, and thankfully one was sent at Del herself, she dodged out of the way as quickly as it was sent, spells were everywhere, but hopefully it would be over soon. There would be a bit of healing for del to help with once it was over. Although considering the winning team weren't doing actual damage, they should hopefully be okay.

This game became quite unexpected with how quickly the tables turned, the team Delilah had been on for almost the entire time had now become almost full. She jumped a little with a smile, her first game in this club and her team was winning..although, there wasn't much losing in this game. Suppose she didn't think her happiness through too much, unless she got knocked out, winning was basically the default, but oh well. It was fun. It was really fun actually, it had been quite fun strategising with a full team rather than just 1 teammate like in duelling, it was different, having a few people doing things instead of just 2 of them. But it was almost over, almost time to finish. But that didn't mean that del was ready to give in.

It was apparent that this game was not in River’s favour. At this point she’d lost count of how many times she had switched teams, and it was not over yet. She was too focused on casting her next spell to even notice the one coming straight for her. Her flipendo didn’t even hit her target, it was all for nothing. The only thing that came out of her moment's distraction, was a flash of green, once more blinding her vision.

She wouldn’t be surprised if this all led to her having permanent eye-damage from now on. This was getting ridiculous. Her arms shot up once more, trying to shield her eyes from some of the light. They were obviously not fast enough, and once more she’d have to struggle to regain her level of sight. Glasses were expensive, she just hoped they would not become necessary because of this game.

River was looking forward to heading back to her dorm after this was over, to lay under the covers and just sit in the dark for a bit. Maybe read a book if her brain wasn’t too tired from all this strategizing. It was quite exhausting. And you’d think she was used to it from her games of quidditch. But nope. She still found it just as difficult.

After switching over to the verdimillious team, she took a quick glance around the current state of the game. And it seemed there was one player left, against all the others. Now this game had to be coming to an end. Right?

Autumn remembered two minutes ago, when she had mentally remarked that she wouldn't fail again. Oh, how wrong she had been.

She had sent the jinx flying flging Henry's way, and watched, disappointed, as he dodged it. It had gotten somewhat close, but not nearly close enough, and Autumn wasn't mad at herself, she was just- yeah, no, that was a lie. She was absolutely, one hundred percent mad at herself.

She didn't have much time to think about it though, as a blinding light of green sparks emitted from the fifth year Ravenclaw's wand, going straight for her. She tried to dodge, and she got fairly close, but luck wasn't on her side, and the spell grazed her arm. Ugh. Guess she had to switch teams again.

But as she did, she realised something rather pitiable. The only first year in the game, on a team, all by herself. Autumn wanted to feel bad, because it did seem to be the appropriate reaction, but she also really wanted to win, so hopefully the little snake didn't turn the game back on them.

Hey, at least she was on Flipendo's side. The green sparks wouldn't do any damage, and even if she got hit by every spell sent her way, right now she was the only person in the game who could do some actual damage.
