Outfit: x Being forced to wake up early on a morning when you could sleep in was not something most people favored. So naturally, Adelaide was quite annoyed when her mother had shook her awake and told her to get dressed to head to Diagon Alley. Once her half awake brain had oriented itself with her surroundings, her mind filled with questions. Why were they going to Diagon Alley on Christmas Eve? What was so important that her mother had to have her there? It was Christmas tomorrow, which meant it was also Adelaide's birthday, but she didn't remember asking for anything that would require her to go to Diagon Alley. Most of the time, her parents surprised her with presents.
Despite her confusion, she still obeyed and now found herself roaming the streets of Diagon Alley with her mother beside her. It was surprisingly busy for early in the morning, but she suspected that most of the people running about were last minute Christmas shoppers. "Why are we in Diagon Alley?" She asked her mother. Her mother didn't seem to be steering her towards any stores that Adelaide would be interested in, and she definitely seemed to have a destination in mind as she weaved through the crowd of people.
"Well, since it is your birthday tomorrow, and also Christmas, your father and I decided that we would give you a little extra surprise this year, considering it is your first year at Hogwarts and everyone needs a furry companion." Her mother winked at her conspiratorially. Furry companion? Was her mother getting her a teddy bear? I mean, she appreciated the gesture, but she also didn't really need one. Though, the young girl quickly understood as her mother stopped in front of the Magical Menagerie.
She gasped and looked at her mother in shock, "Really? You're letting me get a pet?" When her mother nodded in confirmation, she squealed and wrapped her arms around her mother. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" She couldn't believe it, her parents were really letting her get a pet! This was definitely one of the best presents she had ever gotten.
Her mother laughed, quickly returning the hug before urging her daughter inside. "Let's go choose a pet, you can get any one you like." The possibilities were endless. Should she get an owl? A cat? A pygmy puff? A toad? Adelaide was usually quite good at making decisions, but once she walked into the shop and was greeted with the most animals she's ever seen in one place, all her decision making skills left the room.
Once they walked in, the duo were greeted by a petite woman wearing a beautiful floral dress, "Hello dear!" She smiled cheerfully at Adelaide. "Are you looking a pet for Christmas?" Adelaide nodded and the woman's impossibly bright smile widened, "Wonderful! Take a look around, we have loads of animals here that are just waiting for some place to call home. My husband and I will be right over here if you need any help." She nodded towards the counter, where a man was standing, he waved at her and she waved back. Her mother left her to go talk to the elderly shopkeepers as she viewed the various cages throughout the shop.
Owls peered at her curiously, toads ribbited as she approached, and cats purred as she drew closer to their cage. She came across a cage with a fluffy kitty in it, who was looking at her with wide, curious eyes. "Hello," she said softly. It meowed enthusiastically in response and Adelaide laughed. This was the one. She didn't know how she knew, but her heart was telling her that this was the cat for her. Calling her mother and the elderly woman over she pointed at the kitty, "I want this one!"
"Aw, it's adorable!" Her mother cooed as the kitty meowed enthusiastically, as if it was sensing the compliment.
"This one is a Silver Siberian," the woman explained, "They are beautiful, and are the perfect pets. They are very affectionate towards their owners, so you can be sure that your pet will always stay loyal to you."
"Alright, are you sure this is the one you want?" Her mother asked her. Adelaide nodded enthusiastically. Her mother beamed at her before turning to the shopkeeper, "How much is she?"
"15 galleons."
Her mother nodded before reaching into her pocket to retrieve the money and handing it to the woman. "What are you going to name her?" Her mother asked. Adelaide tilted her head to the side in thought, this was a very important decision. This beautiful kitty deserved an equally beautiful name.
"Nina, I'm going to name her Nina."
