Earl clutched the letter in a sweaty grip. He was staring at it, unseeing, the paper badly crumpled. He'd received it along with a lemon drop, as if the sweet was to make up for what he'd just read. 'I'm going to start dating again', it said, in his father's elegant handwriting. Mr. Gray was a man of few words, and this letter proved as much. Contained nothing else. It was a bold statement, one that should not have disturbed Earl as much as it did.

But it did. And he was sitting at the Hufflepuff table feeling a bit dizzy. A part of himself, a small, incredibly foolish part, hoped this his dad would get back together with Rory. That they'd be a happy family.

That wasn't gonna happen.

The tiny boy sighed, folding the note and putting it in his pocket, head going to rest in his hands. It was an eerie sight. Earl, slumped at the table, food sitting untouched in front of him. Over the course of breakfast, he took a few half hearted stabs at the plate filled with fruit, looking a bit green. He called it quits halfway through despite having helped the house elves make the towering stack of pancakes earlier that morning, pushing his plate to the side and making to leave the Hall.

Liz was parched! The great hall was full of everything. From people to food and owls, it was noisy and lively. She needed a seat, but... the Gryffindor table was full. A quidditch celebration, possibly. She looked around. There was room at the Hufflepuff table, The Ravenclaw, and... well, not Slytherin, thank you. She sighed, sitting down across from a pink haired boy at the Hufflepuff table.

"H-Hello.." Liz squeaked, looking around at the table, and well, the boy. The ambiance of the room was happy, calm, and seemed very quiet. But something about this boy was sad. She set her book on the table, puffing a large strand of hair off of her cheek. She set her light blue sweater onto the bench, and her book bag onto the floor. She was preparing to read into this chocolate frog witch, when she looked back up at the Second year with a puzzled expression.

"Have I seen you before? You look... familiar." She set her quill and scroll down, trying not to invade in his personal space, but also she wanted to, well, see who he was and get to know him. After talking to... a friend, she felt she was strong enough to get to know more people.

"What do you think is for breakfast today, Eddie?" Avery asked his purply Pygmy Puff, who peered out of the pocket of his robes upon hearing his name. "I'm hoping for something like... waffles, or pancakes," Avery mused, already salivating. He really wanted something he could dump a whole load of syrup on. And maybe spread some jam and butter for good measure. Ever since he'd been working out with his dormmate in the mornings and developing a routine for that, he was starving by the time he'd finished his morning shower.

Edward, always tired, always reticent, had no idea what his gregarious owner was jabbering on about. If he wasn't getting any treats for paying attention, he might as well go back into the depths of the pocket and sleep.

The small boy sat down at the first table he came across, because he was ravenous. He never really understood why some students sat at their own house table all the time, anyway. The kid felt that he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Happy to spot pancakes on the table, he stacked a few onto his plate, added some eggs, and reached for the fruit bowl. However, a pink-haired boy with a load of fruit on his plate was slouched on the table, as if he wasn't feeling the fruit today, before getting up to shove the plate away. Avery's hand hovered halfway over the fruit bowl, and he thought twice about taking some for himself. Was something wrong with the fruit that morning? The Hufflepuff boy looked as if he were feeling sick, by the way his face was green and sullen, and his obvious lack of appetite.

Well, Avery ought to ask, shouldn't he? There was no way he was going to vomit his guts out into the toilet again, like he did after cooking Chinese food in his potions cauldron last time. "Oy, has the fruit gone bad?" he asked the boy and the girl sitting next to him, who didn't look like she was eating, either. "I'd just like to know, because I can't risk wasting a few days in the toilet again."

He broke off a piece of a pancake and put it into his pocket for Eddie to munch on. Anyone might wonder why he was smuggling breakfast crumbs into his school robes, but he wasn't that weird, honest.

He studied the pink-haired boy again. Something about him seemed... unhappy. If he had a bout of bad food, he'd be clutching his stomach and rushing in a panic, not brooding like he was. "Is something wrong besides the fruit?" he asked earnestly, voice a bit more hushed.
