Squidward's Not-so-secret Admirer
Juniper wasn't a girl who spent her time thinking about dating boys and all that. She silently judged the girls who talked about cute boys or spent their time trying to impress the wild animals with "cute hair". Boys were friends. Not dates. Not lovers. Juniper saw boys as people who would play video games with her or play baseball or something with her. When she thought of boys she didn't think of cute magazine cover guys that she would want to date. They were basically those friends who you could be weird around. They just didn't care, not that some girls can be like that. Juniper just wanted it to be clear that she was NOT going to obsess over any boys. Anytime soon. Like, at all.
Of course when she says that, she means humans... and... half-breeds and dhampirs and werewolves and all that. But she had every right to obsess over the Giant Squid, who she refers to as Squidward. When she heard kids screaming "Squid, Giant squid!" On their first night here, Juniper's brain went to Squidward right away. Then she yelled "Squid" too, but not because she was making it known that there was a monster. She had been calling FOR the squid, she had wanted to see Squidward. She jumped in the lake, after that. What a night.
Ever since that day, she's been letting her eyes drift to the lake whenever she could see it out a window. In class, in the halls. At one point she did run over to the lake and try to jump in, but some kid talked her out of it. Just barely. At this point, she really wanted to meet Squidward for reals. She hadn't gotten much of a chance to. When she found her free time, she headed down to the lake. Sure, it was chilly out but if she yelled loud enough, Squidward would certainly come to the surface, right?
And even if it was a chilly November, she was just wearing a t-shirt with ratty jeans, and her normal sneakers. She ran to the lake, looking down at the water. "SQUIDWARD! I know we haven't met YET! PROPERLY! BUT I'M JUNE! The girl who jumped in the water that one night!!!" She set her hands on her hips, gazing for any disturbance in the water's flat surface.
Of course, there was nothing. Maybe she just didn't... yell loud enough? Yeah, that had to be it. She took a deep breath, indicating she was about to yell very loud. She would either make Squidward forever deaf or he would hear her and come up. "SQUIDWARDD!!!" She wiped her mouth. "I love you! SQUIDWARD! I'm probably your ONLY FAN HERE!"

Edme had lost been searching for her lost book for at least an hour. Their face was freezing by the bite of the cold, and she was ready to leave her History of Magic book to the frigid outdoors and go back inside for a warm cup of cocoa.
She tucked her scarf up even higher, so it was just over their nose. Chills were sent up her spine in spurts, causing her to shake. They pulled their gloves up, rubbing the wool together. They had a horrible reaction to cold, and rarely went out willingly when it was fall or winter. Her satchel was untouched by the wind, too stuffed with month old hard candy and the three reading books they hadn't gotten to yet because she was "busy".
They were about to turn around and head back to the castle doors when a yell sounded throughout the area and just barely reach her ears. They could barely make out the words, but somehow understood "Squidward" and "Love you!".
"Oh Merlin..." She rubbed their temples, not exactly excited to find out what the source was. But curiosity gripped her spirits, and they gave in to walking down to the lake and finding the reason for such a ruckus.
Of course when they get to the lake they find a random ginger in a pair of worn jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. Why was it always the gingers?
"Um, excuse me..." not knowing her name, Edme searched for any words she could speak to this person "are you speaking to the water?"

Squidward's Not-so-secret Admirer
For a bit longer, Juniper was standing at the edge of the lake, confessing her (not mushy gushy) love for the giant squid in the lake. Poor squid, he must have been having a nice and calm time before Juniper came around since he was clearly ignoring her- or she hadn't yelled loud enough. She brought her hand, gingerly, to her hoarse throat. But she cleared it quickly as if losing her voice didn't faze- or scare- her. No, she had that thought that she was indestructible. One of these days she's bound to have a rude awakening- no one here at Hogwarts seems indestructible. In fact, they all seemed like magnets- magnets that attracted trouble.
Juniper- trouble just seemed to attract her. "Hey hey hey hey hoo hoo! YOO HOOOOO! ilsoqu ko! answer me!" In her moment of- well- Juniper moment- she forgot that the squid couldn't speak. Oh she wished it could- but a thought struck her. If Squidward could speak then why can't this squid? It was perfect logic! "I know you can hear me- and answer me-" She threw back her head and gave a longggg sigh.
"Aaarrghhhhhhhhh!
But then, again- she had what they called a light-bulb moment. If this was a cartoon, surely a lightbulb would floating above her head right now. "Alright, here- you son of a squid- if you don't come out right now-" She took her wand out. "I will- and trust me- I WILL- cast the sneezing hex on you." That was, of course, if she could ever find the squid.
"1... 2... I mean it! 3... 3 and a ha-" Then someone spoke behind her. Juniper jumped and whirled around at a shocking speed with her wand out. "Ste- OH" She moved her wand down quickly, not wanting to hit the student with the incomplete spell.
Juniper glanced at the lake. "Me? Pfttt- NO! Don't be ridiculous." Of course, what she was about to say was even more ridiculous. "I was yelling at the giant Squidward."

The girl whirled around, wand in hand. Edme immediately stepped back, their confusion melting to fear. The other immediately brought the wand down, and said something so as to debunk the question regarding her yelling at the water.
"Pardon me?" Edme had to think for a moment on this statement. Giant Squidward?
She had obviously heard about it, they had once been in a foster home where the child was obsessed with a show called Spongebob Squarepants, where a little yellow sponge went on careless adventures with his friends and worked at a burger restaurant with a money seeking crab and a bored squid. She presumed the squid was squidward then.
"There's... there's a Squidward in the lake? And you were yelling to it?" those words felt weird coming out of their mouth. This sounded ludicrous of course, but with what Hogwarts had shown her so far, the idea wasn't entirely off the table "Why ever would you do that?"
The cold was already unbearable, but this situation held absolutely zero help to that. Edme had met interesting people here, but not often those who cried their voice hoarse for the sake of a cartoon squid. Edme was beginning to forget why she was out here.

Juniper tucked her wand away "My apologies, my apologies."She offered an embarrassed smile at the girl. "I didn't mean to scare ya." The student seemed both confused and scared, so Juniper pointed to the water. "There is a magical giant squid-thingy in there. Like REALLY big. Maybe there's a book with a picture on it in the library. But it's OBVIOUSLY squidward, right?" She looked at the girl, waiting for her thoughts to be confirmed. Not that she needed for the student to agree, but it was easier that way for the both of them.
Juniper couldn't remember a time when she wasn't eager to believe things. Beleive as in, let herself know that there's was always a little sprinkle of magic in the world. Boy, did she feel like a winner when she got a letter to a magical school. It made her want to shove her face into those who told her magic was not real, but she obviously couldn't do that.
However, unlike June, the student was having trouble believing there to be a giant squid in the lake. It was just so magical and amazing. "Yes, that is what I said." She waved her hand in front of the other's face. "Are you okay? Why are you having trouble believing this? There are unicorns here, too, so why NOT a giant squidward?" She thrust both her hands out towards the lake.
"Why would I do that? Because he's friendly Im sure! When we were riding the boats to the castle on the first day, a kid fell out and he rescued the kid! She left out the part where she purposely jumped in next, not wanting the student to think she was insane."Ohhh and I'm Juniperrrr"

The girl began explaining her thoughts and reasoning, one of the reasons being that a kid fell in the lake and was rescued by Squidward. That surprised Edme a bit, not actually thinking there was a real Squidward in the water rescuing children. And the more she thought about it, yeah. Unicorns were real here. So why not a fictional talking squid?
"I suppose- well..." Edme looked at the ground for a second, unable to come up with a valid reason as to why there wasn't a giant Squidward in the lake, "Have you... have you spoke you him? Is he kind?"
Edme couldn't believe she believed this, as this was the kind of thing she would be scolded for believing in. But it just seemed so plausible, it was just right there. Why shouldn't she believe it? If this girl said that there was a giant squid in the lake named Squidward who worked at an old burger restaurant and liked to bully kids for fun, what was stopping Edme from calling out to the squid as well.
The girl introduced herself as Juniper Kelly, and Edme quite liked that name.
"That's a nice name. It kind of reminds me of like... flowers and spring and stuff." Edme liked the correlation, and was proud with her observations, "I'm Edme. Not Esme, but Edme."
It was required she made the correction, as her previous parents had always made mistakes with that. It would be Esme, Ellie, even Exer at one house. But it was always the same, Edme. And she quite liked it, too.
She held her hand out for a handshake, and quickly realized their hand was still swallowed by the sweater she had set up camp inside. They quickly and awkwardly un-burrowed her hand and held it out again.
"So you're in love with this Squidward?" Edme questioned in the most polite way possible, "Does he love you back?"
