In the Name of Science
Hogwart's library was perhaps one of the largest libraries that Aspen had ever been to, and she had been to many libraries growing up. Thousands of books upon thousands of other books was almost too overwhelming for the young girl. Just imagine what books they had! Books on every topic from the small ant to the mysteries within the power of magic. Aspen's mind was overflowing with excitement from all of the possibilities. One could easily get lost in such a library.
That day, Aspen was hoping to find a few books to study for her classes, but she also was looking for books to read for her personal enjoyment. She didn't care much for book of fiction but rather books of science and fact. More specifically, she was looking for books on the magic of the stars. She wanted to know more than what she was learning in her classes. What really were the stars? What more is there to them than what muggles have studied? Is the sun the true source of magic? So many questions, so many books, so many answers. If only she knew where to actually look for those answers.
Being a shy girl as she was, she was far too nervous to ask for any sort of direction, so quite naturally, she found herself to be, in fact, lost among the sea of books and bookshelves while in search for books on science and astronomy. Her small stature didn't help much as she found it difficult to read some of the labels for the shelves, making it possible she could have already passed by where she needed to be. How will she ever be able to find what she wants in this library?
Currently, Aspen was looking around in the history section, struggling to read the labels. She spotted a book of interest, but was quite frankly too short to reach. Standing on the nearby step stool didn't help much either.

Well, well. Look who it is, Rachel can't seem to just stay away from the library. She's almost a regular student there. Walking the aisles of books again for the many times this month, she was searching for something to peak her interest after she and Eliphas searched every corner of the library to get a book about constellations. But finding anything Astronomy related or perhaps any Science related books are all fine with her. She was currently in the fiction section with no idea how she even got there. But nonetheless grabbed a few to read because why not?
Grabbing two books that weren't too thick, she opened one and peered inside. They were what their section is. Fiction. But Rachel being herself, searched for one more book about thriller. Along the way, she managed to grab two books. One is something about thriller and the other was the book that she recently read. The book about constellations. Finally satisfied for what she had and tired of searching for more books, she made her way to a table.
Passing by the History section, she saw a student struggling to get ahold of one of the books on the top shelf. She tilted her head slightly and approached the struggling girl. Rachel was quite tall for her age but the shelf was still a little too high for her reach. Standing on her tiptoes, she miraculously grabbed the book with her free hand, looked at the cover briefly, glanced at the girl on the step stool and gave it to her. She smiled and said,
"Hey there! Sorry 'bout that, just thought you needed help. Fan of History?"

Being focused on trying to reach the book, Aspen was startled when a fellow student came to help her with getting the book down. "Hey there!" the girl said as she grabbed the book. "Sorry 'bout that, just thought you needed help." Aspen nervously nodded and glanced to the cover of the book. To her dismay, it was not a history book on the magic of stars as she thought, but of famous wizards and witches in history.@Rachel Davis
"Fan of History?" the student asked Aspen as she smiled and handed the book to her (Aspen).
"Not really, no," Aspen replied. "Well, maybe a little, if it has to do with magic and space... But this isn't what I was looking for." She tried to return the book only to fail and nearly drop the book. She quickly caught it and huffed in frustration. "I ah, was actually looking for the science section. I was hoping to study a bit on the stars you see, but um, I'm... well I'm lost and haven't a clue where to go..."
Aspen nervously played with her robe sleeves, hoping she had not bored the poor student with her rambling on about her keen interest in science and space.

Rachel perked up at the mention of space. If the other girl is a fan of things like that then she, Rachel and her friend could even have a study group or anything of that sort. But she didn't want to seem to enthusiastic to not scare the nervous girl. She keenly listened to her but jumped a little when the girl almost dropped the book. "I think I can help you with that! I don't know much about the sections and aisles here but-" She showed the book about constellations. "I do know where to find some books. Follow me!"
Rachel said, starting to walk to the section where she found the book before stopping and looking at the other girl sheepishly. "Do you need help returning that book to the shelf?" She asked, motioning to the book in the girls hands. Realizing that she just keeps calling her 'the other girl' in her mind, Rachel cleared her throat and scratched her head. "By the way, my names Rachel. First year Gryffindor. And you are...?" She introduced herself, while tilting her head a little to the side, various books still in her hands which was starting to be tiring to carry.

Aspen's eye lit up as soon as she saw the constellations book. This girl was interested in just the same things as Aspen was! Was this a chance to make a new friend? Aspen had a few, but the more she had the more she felt as though she fit in. She could remember back in Manchester when she had friends, before she knew she was a witch. She remembered the day she had to be suddenly sheltered away from said friends, and never saw them again. Painful as it was, it was necessary to keep her safe, or at least that's what her parents told her.
As the other started to make her way down the aisle, Aspen followed. "Do you need help returning that book to the shelf?"the girl had asked. Aspen nodded. "Yes, thank you..." She held the book out to the other girl when she asked for her name. "Oh, um, my name is Aspen, Aspen Fernsby..." she answered. "I'm a firsty year Ravenclaw..."
A Gryffindor? Aspen hadn't had much luck talking with Gryffindors. While they didn't really bully her like some Slytherins had, they didn't seem to take any interest in befriending her, especially because of her timid, introverted personality.
