Precisely an hour after leaving the Ravenclaw Common Room, Eliphas hurried himself back to the foot of the West Tower and much to his elation therein found Josepheen Norman waiting just as planned. Part of him had worried that she wouldn't come. Maybe she had been held up by other, more important matters. Maybe she hadn't really liked Eliphas at all and had merely been humouring him previously.

But nope. She was there, as eager as he was to begin their adventure!

They didn't linger long within the West Tower, though. Having spent most of his day cooped up at its lofty tops Eliphas was hoping for adventure a little further from home. He hadn't yet brought the map from its place in his pocket - robes had been set aside for the day, it was the weekend after all, and instead he wore jeans and a slightly oversized grey sweater, his favorite kind to wear - instead he cut across the courtyard and headed toward the main castle.

It wasn't until they reached the Grand Staircase that he slowed to a halt, peering upward at the multitude of ever shifting stairs. Even after Burnett's help navigating them, Eli couldn't help but feel a little unnerved at the prospect of scaling the various steps.

"Okay," he said, excitement filling his tone to the brim, "Let's see..."

Finally he pulled out the tightly folded map from his pocket, and began to carefully open it up so that the pair of them could look it over. There was another spiral staircase nearby, situated between two of the bridges which spanned across the rapid waters below. He couldn't help but have his eyes dart toward it. Maybe they could avoid the treacherous stairways after all!

But this wasn't just his adventure, so he turned to Jo and beamed a smile. "Pick a floor, Miss Norman..." The map revealed a bunch of random corridors which could be found on either floor they decided upon, leading to classrooms and broom closets neither had ever stepped foot in. Many rooms weren't even marked for what they were.

That just made the prospect of peeking inside all the more enticing!

Josepheen had arrived at the meeting place five minutes before she was supposed to, too excited to wait. She was leaning against one wall, still working on her story, occasionally looking up when she saw movement in the corner of her eye. She was shaking with excitement, and when Eliphas finally came, she stood up straight, and put her Notebook and her pen back into her pocket.

“Just know we’ll find something story worthy,” she said grinning widely. “So where to first?” She asked as she followed Eliphas as he lead the way to the Main Castle. “Anywhere except Ravenclaw Common Room, I hope. I’ve been in there enough for one day.”

When they reached the Grand Staircase, Eliphas came to a stop, and pulled out his map of the school, for the both of them to see. Josepheen immediately started looking for the most mysterious looking place, and a classroom caught her attention.

Josepheen smiled when Eliphas asked for her opinion. “Why, certainly, Mr. Dune.” She said laughing, and she looked at the map. “Let’s see,” she said, studying the different options. “I’m curious to see another classroom that isn’t being used… how about…” she pointed at a classroom on the second floor that was unmarked and seemed worthwhile. “That one!” She said. “But, to make things more interesting, let’s take a less direct route! What do you say?”

They were on the same wavelength, it seemed, as Josepheen immediately remarked on how she hoped they'd be avoiding their Common Room for a while. These Eagles needed to spread their wings, fly the coop... He chuckled at that thought, and nodded his head. "Yeah, anywhere but..."

Josepheen was as eager as he to scour the map in search of somewhere fun or interesting to search. He didn't rush her, even if he had a few ideas of his own, and shifted the map closer to her instead. "The only place I've used it with really is the basement... And uh, I don't think you'd like it down there," he explained, effectively cut that off from their choices of where to go. Certainly he didn't wish to return there any time soon, the mere thought of it sent shivers down his spine.

As such he was mighty relieved when she pointed to a second floor classroom. Unmarked, and down a random corridor. Eliphas beamed a grin at the prospect, and nodded his head eagerly. "That sounds great!" he assured her, and as she suggested a less-than-direct route he brought his finger down and gestured to the one set of spiral staircases he'd spied earlier.

"Why don't we take these stairs instead?" he asked, totally not still afraid of the Grand Staircase. No, not at all... This was for adventure purposes only... Honest! "We can get a good look at the bridges on the way up!" Hogwarts was partially surrounded by water, and Eliphas found that intriguing. Maybe one day he'd take his homework out to the covered bridge by the clocktower and enjoy the view.

But today wasn't about homework!

Eliphas suggested one of the spiral staircases, and Josepheen simply nodded maybe the water would give her something to write about. She thought this last part carefully, before looking at the map, and matching it with their surroundings to determine where the staircase was.

When she figured it out, she started heading towards them, hoping Eliphas would simply follow her. When she finally reached the staircase, she stopped at the bottom, and looked out the window that was there. She could just barely see the water below, but beyond the castle grounds she saw a line of hills. She quickly pulled out her notebook and pen, and started sketching the hills, deciding, they’d make quite the enchanting morning. Underneath the sketch, she added the words The Edge of Dawn

She put her notebook back, and simply enjoyed the view, before turning back to the staircase, and taking in every detail. She called this a “Creative Moment”, where she would feel, listen, see, and smell. Though she did it simply for inspiration, it was also extremely calming, and she let in even the smallest details of sights, sounds, and objects in. Things like the screeching of shoes against the floor, creaking of doors, and other usually annoying sounds suddenly became music, singing her into a quiet contentment.

With nary more than a nod of confirmation, and a final glance at the map to garner a sense of direction, his companion hastily headed out to begin their adventure. For his own part, Eliphas first made a quick check that he had everything he needed, including the wand tucked away in his cloak - not that he knew much beyond Reparo at this point, and even then not with any consistency - and then he followed after her.

He caught up with Josepheen at the foot of the spiral staircase. She was staring out the arched window which afforded them a view over the grounds. At this low vantage point he could barely make out the water, though Jo apparently liked what she saw all the same as she was busy sketching in her journal. Eliphas did his best not to pry, though he did catch a glimpse of the hills the girl had drawn.

There was a general din which had settled over the school, prompted by the weekend which meant more students out and about in the halls as they did whatever students did in their off time. Especially in this central part of the castle, there were plenty of footsteps, closing doors, and barely intelligible conversations drifting down the core of the stairwell.

Eliphas glanced upward, imagining the individuals who caused such a symphony of sound, and then without a word he began to climb the unmoving steps. They skipped the first landing, which brought them to the first floor, though he did pause long enough to glance out of the window. A better view of the water was afforded to them because of this. Then he ventured further up.

He waited for Josepheen at the landing of the second floor, should she have paused to take note at all, and leaned upon the windowsill to take it all in. A few students lingered in the grounds down below, and while they were not so small as ants as they always appeared from the Ravenclaw Tower windows, they were still rather fun to watch thanks to the disconnect of space.

Once they were both ready, he stepped off the landing and into the corridor where he paused to glance down at the map still clutched within his left hand. "Which way..." he mumbled, as much to himself as to Jo as he studied the parchment and tried to recall which classroom it was she had been hoping to visit.

When she finally caught up with Eliphas on the second floor, he continued walking into the corridor and he looked down at the map quietly asking which way, either to himself or to Josepheen, she didn't know. Josepheen wasn't good with remembering conversations or names, but that wasn't the case with images. She knew exactly where she was going, recalling that the room was at the very end of the corridor, where there was hardly any light, so it was partly concealed by the shadows. “I know where I’m going.” She reassured Eliphas, before continuing to walk down the hallway.

As she walked, the corridor became darker and darker fro mthe lack of light, until she found a closed door. “This is it.” She tried opening the door, but it didn’t move. “It’s locked.” She groaned. Of course, as soon as she couldn’t enter it, she wanted to go in even more.

She sighed, and turned back to Eliphas. “I guess we have to explore somewhere else. Anywhere in mind?” She asked, though her tone of voice and the way her eyes darted from Eliphas to the door betrayed what she said, making it quite obvious that she was almost desperate to get in.

Why would it be locked? She wondered. What could they be trying to hide?

Josepheen quickly took the lead, no longer reliant on the map. As such he began to fold it up as they walked, turning into a more manageable size that could fit within his jean pockets. The pair continued to walk on in relative silence, though surprisingly it wasn't an uncomfortable silence. He did not feel the need to fill it with any mindless chatter. Perhaps it was the apprehension which filled him to the brim and left no room for small talk. Excitement for what was to come.

Soon enough each step they took seemed to sap the light out of the hallway, until they neared a doorway surrounded by the inky black of night. This was surprising because it was still very much the afternoon. No windows afforded them a view over the grounds, no candlelight illuminated the way. Just their natural eyesight. Eliphas' night-sight wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the best either. No matter.

As Josepheen explained the locked door situation, she didn't very much conceal her disappointment. Her eyes twinkled with a certain mischievousness, even as she inquired as to where else they might explore. Not yet satisfied to move on, Eliphas stepped forward and tried the door himself. Just as she had said, the door was very much locked.

He let out a sigh.

"I'm sorry Josepheen... Hm..." He reached toward his pocket, hellbent on retrieving the map which lay there. Before he could pull it free however he noticed something odd in their surroundings. A slight draft tickled his hand as it reached downwards, and all at once the hairs on the back of his neck stood to attention.

Eliphas said nothing as he turned in a slow circle and surveyed the corridor around them. Then he turned back the opposite direction. He almost dropped the thought, believing it to have just been a natural draft, when from the corner of his eye he spied one of the ancient tapestries ever so slightly warbling in place. It wasn't an entirely obvious occurrence, in fact even he had almost missed it. But it was enough to inspire curiosity within the young Ravenclaw and thusly he approached it, hand forgotten at his side.

"Jo..." he said, enough to garner her attention, though he didn't expand upon his thoughts.

Said tapestry lay upon the same wall as the locked door, just a few feet away. Once before it he pulled the fabric back just enough that he could see beyond, and then without warning he vanished behind it leaving no trace. The tapestry once again lay flat upon the wall, no sign of any boy hiding behind it.

Josepheen had been looking begrudgingly at the door, examining every part of it and admitting it to memory, unsure if she wanted to for her story, or for trying again later.

Josepheen looked towards the tapestry, just after Eliphas vanished. “Eliphas?” She asked looking around for her companion. “Eliphas?” She said a little louder. When she didn't hear any response, she walked a bit out of the dark so she could see around her more clearly, but still saw nothing. "Okay, Eliphas, not funny. I don't normally tell people this, but I have a horrible fear of being left behind." She listened for something, anything, but still heard nothing.

She tried to remember where she heard him from, retracing her steps, and recalled that after he had apologized, he had grown awfully silent as she studied the door. She remembered noticing from the corner of her eye as he walked over to the tapestry by the door, and examining it. Josepheen looked back to where he had been when he said her name.

Her eyes landed on the tapestry hanging on the wall, and went to examine it. she ran her fingers across it until she reached the edge. Maybe behind? She thought and slowly moved it out of her way.
