Fishing For Plimpies Closed

"The sky grew darker..painted blue on blue- one stroke at a time...into deeper and deeper shades of night"...- Haruki Murakami

She knew she wasn't supposed to be out of her dorm after hours, and she knew that if she was caught she would have a detention- but detention was the least of her worries. Xailah couldn't help sneaking out, she loved the night like a dear friend.

Tonight was a quiet night...well almost. Night fowl could be heard  high in the trees- tucking their hatch-lings in for the night; the eerie cry of a Thestral could be heard in the distance, singing a sad yet beautiful song, and if you listened- really listened, you would be able to hear the swift footsteps of an animal- or rather a girl. Xailah ran swiftly- bounding over fallen trees and rocks; she was a mere shadow silhouetted in the moonlight. Nightmarish figures danced around the girl- or so it seemed, but they were only shadows- nothing to be afraid of. On a night like this Xailah would usually wander into the Forbidden Forest; she always found cool things there- lost things or strange nocturnal animals, but tonight was different, tonight Xailah let the moonlight be her guide- and for whatever reason it lead her to the Great Lake. Xailah found a little spot by the lake near some shallow water, above the chosen spot was a big tree- it looked dead and had branches that hung down like claws; ready to grab anyone willing to sit in its shade (or in this case, shadow). Around the roots of the tree were some glowing mushrooms- Xailah wondered what would happen if she popped one of the things into her mouth, but later decided that she was better off not finding the flavors of mushrooms that glowed. Xailah planted herself at the edge of the chosen place, her legs dangled off the short ledge; the soles of her boots tapped the surface of the shallow water. She peered into the silvery pool to find round little creatures floating around in the water- she thought they looked rather funny, and reminded her of tadpoles, or pollywogs (she called tadpoles pollywogs sometimes). Thinking back to her book of monsters she remembered that the small round fish were called Plimpies; what a appropriate name for such a silly little fish. Xailah decided she wanted a few, and whilst humming the song "Memory" from the show "Cats", she proceeded to scoop some up in her umbrella that she often carried around- this looked rather strange, but that was fine since there was no one around to question what she was doing....Or at least she thought no one was around.

Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe....
