Attempting water parkour

Rosella was not prepared for anything that was going on today, she thought she would be but was wrong. The young girl did not expect to be doing so much exercise in a short amount of time just for a fun activity. Attempting to ignore the slight pain in her muscles, the young Russian girl smiled and watched the older girl dive into the water, clapping as she managed to get all the tokens. "Good job Evelyn," she said quietly as they made their way to the next section of the tasks.

Looking across, Rosella shook her head at the thought of having to parkour her way across this, or swim. Luckily the girl knew how to swim, so if she did managed to fall half way through she would still be able to swim the rest of the way. Glancing over, she heard Bridget say that she would go first. Rosella only nodded her head in agreement, "I can go second," she offered as she looked at the others to see if they had any objections to her attempting the course second. If anyone did object, she would willing let them go ahead of her of course.

With the flick of her wand and the command of the incantation, Evelynn's attire shifted and morphed, skirt ensemble withdrawing and darkening against her form until it resembled a wetsuit. From her time in the maze, she knew exactly just how cold that water could be and she had no intention of leaving herself vulnerable to its icy grip if she could help it. A sheath on the exterior aspect of her left thigh allowed her to slip her wand safely into stowage. With a steadying breath, brows pinched and lips drawn taught with veiled displeasure, she stepped towards the water's edge.

"I suppose I had best get on, then.." she murmured, mostly to herself, after lingering in inaction for a moment. Every second wasted was a second the other teams might have to gain the advantage; and while she was under the impression that this wasn't necessarily a race, neither had it been stated that the first to complete wouldn't be rewarded with bonus tokens. Plus, tarrying only tempted her to change her mind about volunteering, an action that did not befit the air of confidence and pillar of role-modeling she aspired to promote.

A quick bend and spring of her knees and she arched forward into a respectable dive. Of course, once below the water, she realized the task was a lot easier to envision than it was to actually complete. Perhaps she'd spent too much time in the air and not enough time in the lake. She struggled with her breath, her demand for oxygen coming sooner than she might have hoped and her groping along the bed not nearly as prolifically supplied with coinage as the instructions might have suggested. Her first dive returned only a single coin which she deposited in a small puddle upon the surface's edge before hastily swallowing another breath and dropping back below the crest. The second brought with it two coins, and the last only one.

Four coins.

In her head, she had surfaced with a fist-full each time. This had been their opportunity to either extend their lead or close the gap with whichever group might be ahead. And all she'd managed to do was get four measly tokens. Neither Collins' praise, nor the commendation of the foreign girl would suffice to quell the disappointment that had settled in her core. To avoid being rude or allowing her own self-depreciation to be aired, however, she put on a front and returned their remarks with a constrained smile. Still, no word would escape her lips as she stood, eyes cast steadily down to the floor as she received the drying effects of Collins' spell.

"Thank you," came the quietly uttered appreciation when it was complete.

Her four would soon be joined by a fifth as the group puzzled out the next task. This last one was rather peculiar and as they made there way to the next station, Evelynn turned it over in her fingers, inspecting its irregular puzzle-like shape and blue-toned hue. A stark contrast from the other gold coin-like tokens they'd obtained thus far. Was it really even a token?

Musings cut short with the announcement of their next trial, Evelynn lifted her attention to watch as Collins and then the other girl took their turns with the test of athleticism. Good thing Evelynn hadn't yet shifted her outfit back to its original form. Pocketing the tokens, she lined up to await her turn. Feeling the acute need to make up for her poor performance in the water, there would be no skipping this task and while the other two girls took their turns, she scouted out the best route for her own.

Roll: [3d20 : 3,20,8] + 10 = 13, 30, 18 → 2 token
Bridget would be the first to go ahead and start, and she would do great, she would run ahead and grabbed the first token. The wobbly parkour would not fathom her as she gracefully rushed past to grab the second token as well until she finally would make it toward the end of the parkour. She just barely would make it to the shore as the floating disk dipped away, submerging her foot into water but she saved herself just barely from crashing into the lake.

DC: 10, 15, 18
Rolls: [3d20 : 13,2,7] + 9 = 22, 11 → 1 token
Rosella would follow suit, her thoughts got the better of her as they became true, right after she had grabbed the first token on the path, she would feel her center of gravity shift, as the inflatable slab slipped away beneath her feet and she made contact with the cold, but not freezing waters. She would now have to swim her way across, but luckily she had acquired at least one of the tokens.

DC: 10, 15, 18
Rolls: [3d20 : 8,11,13] + 12 = 20, 23, 25 → 2 token
Evelynn was agile, there was no doubt in that so this task would barely be a challenge for the seeker. She was used to acting fast and grabbing for gleaming objects as a quick maneuver, if anything this served as further practice for the seeker. Test her agility, maneuverability and accuracy and she would excel in all three of those. As she made it to the shore the fastest and seemingly without even breaking sweat. If she were to inspect the tokens she had grabbed they would clearly be white stones, but as the light caught them they would reflect it in rainbow hues. Truly pretty as it broke the light. If this event had proven anything it was that Alan knew where to find some fancy tokens.

Now there was only one thing left to do, for all the students whether they were drenched in water now or not. Get out of here. The exit expanded at the roof and the ways to reach it were with climbing some trees to the top. They would find a wooden platform there, attached to it a slide or rope that would allow them to drop down and leave. It was mostly to create a fun exit of kind. Alan would go ahead, but stayed at the top in case any of the students needed assistance in getting out.
Mod Note:
Congrats, I hope you enjoyed the event! The last task is flavor, feel free to succeed and do well if you'd like. I will get back to you soon on who has won!

Tokens this Moderation: 5 / Five

The course didn't look too difficult, Evelynn concluded after watching Collins complete her run. It had been tense for that last moment. For a second, Collins' foot had dipped below the surface, and Evelynn was almost certain she was about to have a last stretch failure. A nod of respectful approval would be cast towards her upperclassman from across the way once she had found solid ground again. While the platforms could certainly pose some trouble with the way they floated and gave under the weight of a foot, it was clear that there was a certain level of stability to them, at least.

No doubt, however, the difficulty would only rise with each passing attempt as splashes of water coated their surface in a slick glaze. This was a reality that became only too evident as the foreigner took her turn, losing her footing right after snatching up the first coin to take a tumble into the water. "Are you quite alright?" Came Evelynn's inquiry from the other side as the girl made her way to the opposite "shore". "Is it very cold?"

The water of the diving task hadn't been entirely unreasonable, but after her stint in the groundkeeper's maze, there was very little trust permitted when it came to water. She wouldn't at all have been surprised to find it absolutely freezing. Hopefully, however, she wouldn't have to find out first hand.

When it came time for her own turn, there was no hesitation. Still sporting the wetsuit she had conjured for the last watery task, there was nothing to inhibit her motions as she sprinted across the platforms. Far more accustomed to maintaining her balance in the air than on a fickle surface, it took a few steps before she really found her stride. Once she had, however, she could anticipate how the floating boards would cave beneath her weight, planting her feet just inside their center to counteract their motions. A quick duck as she passed the center and one token was swept into her palm. A few seconds later and her steps landed on solid ground.

"Well... I suppose that wasn't entirely dreadful..." she muttered to herself, calmly collecting the second coin to join the first. Fingers twisted the stones to catch and deflect the light in a way that highlighted their opalescence. They were quite pretty.

A second later and they disappeared into a pocket to join the others, however, her attention returned to the means of exit. Lips pursed just briefly with the realization that they would have to climb. While rather fond of nature, and more than just casually accustomed to seeking the shadowed base of lakeside trees for a quiet place to study, her appreciation did not extend to climbing them. To accomplish that meant exposing delicate hands meant for academic and instrumental use to the rough texture of bark and sticky sap. If only she'd brought gloves at least... Something to remember going forward, she supposed.

Still, there was no use bemoaning her misfortune of having to get her hands dirty, and with the obstinate tenacity befitting her house, she accomplished the task in mediocrity. Once atop the platform, she slid herself down the rope, pulled her wand out at its base, and adjusted her attire back to its base form. "How many tokens did we manage to gather in total?" she inquired once the rest had joined her. "Fourteen, was it?" she wondered, mentally running through the tasks. "No... fifteen," came the self correction. "I wonder how that will compare to the rest...." she trailed off, curious to know how they compared against the rest as the group took leave of the immediate area to await the results.

Hoping that she wouldn't immediately plummet to the waters below--that would be embarrassing--she took the first jump. Heartbeat somewhere in her throat, the landing far from perfect, she threw her arms out for balance and hurried to stand on the exact center to not pitch the platform over. Then, carefully, she bent to retrieve the token, just barely catching it's multi-colored glint in the light before pocketing it; the last thing she wanted was to accidentally lose it to the water were she to slip further along the course.

Before she lost her nerve to the bobbing underfoot, she resumed motion. This time, she landed with no issue at all, adjusting with the taste of what to expect to touch down lightly and just right to maintain the needed center of gravity. A second token was grabbed in fluid motion, and feeling like she'd gained a rhythm, she took right off for the last platform. She couldn't tell if it was because this one was slightly smaller, or maybe it was the disturbed water having it rock before she even touched it, because all of the momentary grace had been lost. It was more of a feeling of dread than clear thought, the realization she was slipping. But if there were a fortuitous place for this to happen, it was here, where she was able to jump before she was submerged and reach safe, steady, dry land. Her shoe was soaked, but that was nothing her second cast of the Hot-Air Charm couldn't fix. "Wait a minute for the platforms to still!" she advised to the two waiting for their turns to cross the course.

Rosella looked as though she had things perfectly under control, her landing on the first platform no doubt far better than hers had been, but something--a turn of luck, bad footing--had her missing the second. Bridget winced sympathetically, but at least she was able to swim the rest of the way just fine. "Hey, one of two isn't so bad!" The encouragement was followed by another cast of Aer Calidus; the role of magical dryer was one she had no problem taking up. Evelynn, as she'd expected, finished them out with impressive grace, and she would offer her a congratulatory "Nicely done." The Gryffindor had certainly established today that her agility was not reserved solely for the skies.

Their last task was to climb a tree. Bridget couldn't say she'd climbed any recently, but perching in the crooks between limbs had once been a favorite pastime. Reaching the top was no issue; she possessed no particular skill in this area, but compared to the other tasks, this was not very challenging. With the slide at the top, which was her choice to reach the bottom, it honestly felt like this whole thing had been designed to bring her back in touch with all the activities she would do as a kid: playground things, swimming, climbing trees.

And, of course, this was also a competition. She hoped they'd done sufficiently well; a one-off thing like this didn't carry the same eagerness to emerge victorious as, say, the duelling championship, but winning was always nice. At Evelynn's inquiry, she pulled her tokens from her pockets, counting those and the others'. "Fifteen," she confirmed. Evelynn clearly shared the desire to have done well, and Bridget nodded in agreement. But at the end of the day, this--meeting Rosella, getting to know Lavinia and Evelynn better--had been plain fun, and she could settle for that.
