Your average day for the young Hufflepuff consists of the following: work, work, and more work. He hardly gives himself time to relax, much less ventures beyond the castle walls to explore the grounds. However, he'd already completed all of his assignments today, and that left him with nothing to do, and too much time on his hands. Taking that into consideration, the condition of the weather, and how bored he was at the moment, he decided once and for all, to take a walk.
And thus, he headed out, dressed in the usual yellow and black garbs required by the school, with an odd-looking wicker basket in his hand. It was falling apart at some places, with random pokey bits of rattan sticking out here and there. One could assume it'd be painful, yet easy, to prick yourself if you weren't looking closely enough.
He crossed over the turf, unperturbed by the partially grey sky. It foretold of an oncoming drizzle, which frankly, was one of the many reasons he chose this time to come outside. He kept to his course until he reached his final destination; the lakeside, near a willow tree (the regular kind, not the car-eating variety).
In this precise spot, lay a gigantic, girthy stump, presumably dead from being harvested. The ground around it, notably, is plain soil. No grass in sight, nor are there pebbles. Here, on the stump, he lays his basket. Then, he reaches into it, to retrieve...
  • A cerulean, 9' beach umbrella
  • A blanket
  • A few pillows
  • Binoculars
  • A book (The Scorch Trials)
The basket is a family heirloom, given to him by his father in his will, making it very invaluable to him. The reason it holds so much, is because the Undetectable Extension charm was cast on it. The coolest part is, there's more in that basket than what he pulled out.
He starts to set up his 'chill zone', starting with the big blanket, which he drapes over the dirt. Secondly, he plants his umbrella into the ground, making sure to get it nice and deep so the wind wouldn't knock it away, should it change direction and blow from the side the tree wasn't blocking. Then, he lays out his pillows. A couple on the blanket, so he'd be cushioned from the hard earth, and another few against the stump. The binoculars and book are carefully placed off to one side of the covers.
Once he's satisfied with how his base looks, he takes his basket, sits down to one end of the stump and deposits it beside the binoculars to prevent it from getting nabbed. Just in time, too, because the second his bum hits the bolster, it starts pouring, instantaneously drenching anything that isn't him, or his lil relaxation station.
There aren't bugs swarming him, and that, he's thankful for. The peaceful patter of rain against the surface of the lake eases his tired mind. Isn't long before he's settled in, and enjoying the scenery and sounds of nature, the smell of the rain filling him just as well as a meal would--
But no matter how nice this was, it was always better to share, and he has plenty room for it, should anyone want to escape the downpour.

Dorothy ducked under a group of trees. It was kind of dry.. kind of. Droplets of rain water dripped from the hanging leaves and made Dorothy feel cold. She glanced about, checking for signs of human life. Nope. She grinned. Then she danced.

One, two, three and pirouette. Step, step, plié, tendú, and arabesque

Dancing in the rain. She liked that. Now Dorothy was really cold. She picked up her book bag and started running towards the castle. Dodging trees and holding her bag close, Dorothy made her way closer to "home". She suddenly stopped, as a large umbrella drew her attention. It sprouted out of the ground like the tree that rose above it. A blanket rested on the ground beneath it, and various pillows acted like rocks, completing the cozy landscape. Dorothy crept closer, until she was right beside it. She peeked inside. A boy sat, reading and enjoying the storm. He was pale, with freckles and dark hair. He was clothed with the wonderful grey and yellow robes that marked him a Hufflepuff. Dorothy smiled.

"Hello! This is quite the club house you made. Do you mind if I join you? It's rather wet out here." She said in her annoyingly (in D's opinion) sweetly, childish sounding voice. Why couldn't a girl sound older when she wished to? She smiled, feeling silly as the rain began running down her back.

"My name is Dorothy D. What's yours?"

To wrapped up in his daydreams, the boy didn't hear the footsteps until they'd grown so loud that he was forced to remove himself from his own conscious. He looked up from his page, only to be met with the sight of a sopping blonde. It would have been selfish to decline -even if she had distracted him from his recollection of sweet memories-, so he nods his head toward the unoccupied part of the makeshift shelter. "Be my guest."
It was always hard for him to do things like this. To even speak up, was like having tetanus for him (Okay, maybe that's a reach, but it's similar, in a way), and his instinct was to retreat. Curl up, hide. Anything but what he's doing right now. The act he's putting on, acting like everything's all fine and dandy, and that he isn't suffering from crippling anxiety.
"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Dorothy. I'm Asher. Lundell, if that matters. Someone told me it didn't, so sometimes I wonder-- anyway, have a seat. You must be freezing out there." Kindness, that was the most noticeable thing about him. Sure, he was a troubled child, but a tender heart always pushed him past his own boundaries. The hat was right to sort him into Hufflepuff.
He starts to pilfer through that raggedy basket again, in search of something. What exactly that was, his housemate would have to wait and see. But first, she'd have to come in, and get out of that rain.

Dorothy smiled slightly before carefully ducking under the umbrella. She pulled her wand out of her robe pocket and held it in front of her. She focused on the wand before relaxing her arm a bit and muttered, "Tergeo." The water on her robes instantly seemed to sort of wipe away, as though an invisible force had quickly swiped at it. She smiled contentedly at her small bit of magic and slipped her wand away. She stepped closer to sit down before frowning. "Not again!" She muttered before pulling off her blocky school shoes. She held them out away from the fort and into the rain and tipped them. Bucket loads of water splashed onto the forest floor.

"Yuck! That happens every time I try the syphoning spell. It all ends up in my shoes. I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong!" She flashed a sheepish smile before slipping her slightly wet shoes back on. She made sure to keep them off the blanket as she sat down. Conversation. That was something Dorothy was good at. Some of her friends back at home said she could practically drag words out of them. She could make them talk, make them feel comfortable. And if that failed, well.. Sometimes she could see their words anyway.

"Thank you so much for letting me come in, Asher. You can call me whatever you like. My friends sometimes call me Dora, or more commonly Thea. I don't mind. Of course your last name matters! At least it's not something embarrassing. My last name is Do. Dorothy Do. How's that for a name? I usually just introduce myself as Dorothy D. It sounds better that way. People who say your last name doesn't matter are probably just jealous because their last name is something silly, like Mumpkins or Goober," She smiled sweetly,"or Do. Anyways, rain is lovely, but once it gets in your clothes it's so very cold and all soggy. It was smart of you to bring an umbrella."

She fiddled a bit with her shoelace before continuing her friendly chatter, " So you're a Hufflepuff, huh? Are you happy with your house? I am, but only because I don't know much about any of the others. I do think we have the nicest common room though. That's a neat basket. Is it magic?"

Dorothy watched him rummage through his basket as if in search of something. She felt it best to fall silent and let him do some talking. She could get very talkative if she let herself.

"No need. Any decent person would have made room for you and.. well, I have plenty, as you can probably tell." Asher wasn't much of a chatterbox, himself, and was likely not to talk very much during this time. There are ways to get his mouth running. Although, finding those methods can prove to be challenging. "Do isn't such a silly last name. Reminds me of doe. As in, a deer. And deer are very graceful creatures. But, I digress-" Your social skills are just about as poor as you are! And you're supposed to be a pureblood! For shame.
And from the basket, he produced a thermos, and a couple of mugs. Still piping hot, too. The moment he screws the top off, it starts to steam. He'd probably snuck some cocoa out at breakfast this morning. Sounds like something he'd done, hoarding his food for later. He didn't eat much for starters. He pours about 1/6 of the contents of the thermos into his cup. "Do you want any?" He offers, quickly cozying up in his nest of pillows with the piping hot beverage. He could set it on his thigh if need be, to fix her a glass and warm her up.

"Yes, but it's d-o. Like, "I do enjoy a good game of gobstones". Or, "Do you have any idea what the weather will be like today?" It wouldn't be so bad if it was d-ō. Oh well." Dorothy smiled. She was pleased that he had said something. Asher didn't appear to be too talkative, but it was a start. She shook her head as he offered her a warm cup of something. "No thank you. You've already been kind enough to let me under your umbrella. Besides, the last time someone offered me a beverage it turned out to be a potion that made the drinker giggle uncontrollably, and I am not taking any chances. "

"Do you like potions? I think they're fine! I especially enjoy the funny ones, except when they're used on me. What's your favorite school subject? I like Herbology, and Care of Magical Creatures. By the way, you haven't, by chance, seen a-" she was cut off by a shuffly/sqeaky sound. She jumped a bit, and stared suspiciously at the tattered the basket. It moved slightly.

"Ugh. It's probably Charles! Do you mind if I, um.. Get him?" She gestured towards the moving basket. Dorothy sighed. Why was she in such a cliche situation?

"Understandable. Just thought I'd offer." He raises a shoulder, shrugging it and meeting her eyes with a tiny, yet dazzling, smile. He identifies with the whole 'not taking any chances' thing to a greater extent than people realize, and it was heartening to discover that not all others just went around spewing their life stories at their classmates. Granted, her distrust is more in accept suspicious gifts than trusting people with secrets as big as depression- still weary, in the end.
The initial trait he observes when it comes to Dorothy, is just how loquacious she is. Even so, he doesn't mind. At least one of them could keep the conversation moving. If you left him with the same responsibility, it would've died already. "Potions is my favorite class. I like the precision of it, and the teacher.. Miss Ethel, was it? She seems alright, even though I haven't talked to her yet. One of my goals in life is to create a new potion. I don't know what kind yet."
Startled by the squeaking, Asher jolted, causing a moiety of the drink to spill over into his lap, rapidly soaking though his robes. A gasp tears from his throat, and he clasps a hand over the burnt area. "Right! Go ahead!" It wasn't her fault at all. He was an easy scare, as a result of paranoia, so this was his problem in reality.

Dorothy winced as he spilled his hot drink onto his legs. "I'm so sorry! Let me just grab..." She gingerly picked up the basket and opened it, reaching her entire arms in. She searched a bit before pulling something out of the basket. This something was black, with shiny fur and a mole-like face. It had hands instead of paws and at the moment was waving them madly as it squirmed about. The something was a he, and that he was a niffler, and that niffler was Charles. "Charles!" Dorothy hissed as she turned him upside down. "You are a rescue and release! RELEASE! Stop following me!" She softly and sarcastically corrected the tiny niffler while shaking him upside down like a pillow case. Coins, jacks, pen tips, and a watch tumbled out of the squirming creatures pouch. "I'm sorry about him, he's not supposed to be around. I released him, but he keeps coming back!" She placed him down and scooted him into the rain. He took one last wishful look at the basket and shiny things before scampering off.

"Silly niffler." Dorothy said before turning back to Asher. "Here." she pulled a handkerchief out of a robe pocket. Grabbing her wand again, she pointed it at the hanky. "Aguamenti." She said, and a stream of cool water soaked the handkerchief. She handed it to Asher with a smile. "You alright?" she said, biting her lip with concern. She didn't like seeing people hurt, and she didn't want to have to escort someone else to the hospital wing. Besides, he seemed sweet. He had a nice smile.

"It's fine, really. Don't worry about me." He insists, cringing as he unfastens the robes in the front and shrugs them off so he isn't sitting in more wet clothes than necessary, leaving him in his collared shirt and jumper. Nothing is stained, luckily, but he reeks of chocolate.
Once that's off, it's at least a little better. His V-neck isn't going to get sullied. But that definitely doesn't help him with the burn on his thighs. In order to distract from the sting, he watches the interaction between witch and creature, going as far as to chuckle a bit, an action he instantly grows repentant for. "Sorry, it's not polite to laugh at your expense." A bad first impression already, Asher. Be more careful.
As he was handed the handkerchief, he furrowed his brows. It was pretty- he didn't want to get it dirty with the hot chocolate. So he came up with a plan, and executed it just as speedily as it came to him. A murmur of a simple spell that was being taught to the younger kids now, because of its practicality. "Glacius." Sure, it turns their breaths white because of the chill it emits, but it freezes the patch of cloth the girl'd given him, forming an improvised icepack. He lays it on his thigh for relief, the cool seeping through and soothing his burn. "Much better. Thank you."

"By all means laugh! He is hilarious. " she sent a mock frown of displeasure in the Niffler's direction before continuing, "Don't worry Asher, I have thick skin. It's a Halfblood thing." Dorothy smiled, and decided to take a closer look at Asher. He was handsome, to be sure. He had dark locks of wavy black-brown hair and bright green-blue eyes. His pale face was adorned with a sweet mouth and a bridge of freckles. He had a skinny frame and knobby knees, in Dorothy's opinion. But he was nice. Definitely unsure of himself and constantly worried about offending her. She would have to dig a bit to learn more about him. Unless she could see. But now didn't seem a time for that to appear.

She giggled as he produced a small spell to freeze her handkerchief. "How clever! Can you teach me? Oh, and you're welcome. Twas' a trifle." The blond sat back and sighed, watching her breath crystalize in mid-air.

Dorothy slid her wand out of its pocket and repeated the water charm. A stream of fresh water flowed from the tip of her wand. She pointed it at the now empty cup and filled it halfway. "Glacius." she muttered, and the water froze. It also started to snow.

"Whoops! These never seem to work the first time." she lowered her wand and the snow stopped, leaving a few flakes to melt into the blanket. "Good thing I stopped it before it could soak your blanket." Dorothy muttered as she brushed a snowflake off her arm. "Help?" she asked, posing like a damsel in distress (while trying not to laugh).
