It was far too early in the morning for Enrico to be doing any mind work and putting his focus on remembering the order of ingredients, their uses, how they were meant to be cut up and an entire list of useless information that unfortunately was not living up to the Hufflepuff's expectations when he learned about the existence - the true existence - of potions at Hogwarts. He had expected something along the lines of simply mixing up a couple of ingredients and POOF! Potion done and dusted, ready to use. Instead, he had to be cautious every second and patient with his work. The fact that he was snoozing tired didn't help either. His head was failing to stay up straight, and at one point he nearly dunked his head into his filled cauldron. That would for sure wake him up.

It was the Herbicide Potion that Enrico was assigned to create - and the idea of having to partner up with someone was both an advantage and not. The good part was that he could sit back and let his partner do all the heavy work, that way, he'll cause no one any trouble. On the other hand, the number of students who wanted to tag along seemed to not even exist, as no one came around, not even the friends he spent time with the most. It was understandable, just not to him. For a moment, he felt his rosy cheeks piping hot as frustration grew. Not even the students who actually had no partner came by!

Enrico would show them how much they were going to regret not seizing the opportunity. Not only was he intending on exceeding everyone's expectations, including that of his Professor, but also to outperform them all! So he started; first by staring at his still cauldron filled with water, not to a boiling point yet. Then he read the instructions from his book, but he could swear that all the words were jumbled up! The boy furrowed his brows in utter confusion, his hand awkwardly scratching at the back of his head, his eyes shifting from his book to his cauldron, to the ingredients laid out in front of him. And the more he stared at the lot, the more time it took for him to get started.

The only reasonable solution was to ask the Professor for assistance, so Enrico did absolutely not do that. He swore he would do it on his own and impress them all, getting help from the potion master himself would be cheating. But temptation started to settle in... at the very least, he could take a peek at the students a table away. They seemed to be getting along quickly and even quicker with the process of the potion. He overheard one of them mention exactly six snake fangs. That was nowhere near to listed on the instruction page for the creation of the Herbicide Potion, but they seemed to know what they're doing, so he really couldn't defy their confidence, could he?

Dummy, that was the recipe for Cure for Boils... Gathorne was too oblivious to even realize that not all students were working on the same potions, more so to realize that he had gotten the first step wrong.

"Six of fangs for the Herbicide Potion... makes sense!" Enrico whispered to himself somewhat quietly, yet not quietly enough, he heard some students snickering, fools! He used his emotions to focus on the task at hand and aggressively started to shred the fangs using a mortar, cracking noises could be heard throughout the entire classroom, and with it was the grumpy sniffing of Enrico, suddenly interrupted by a girl.

Emily was never very well at potions, which was abnormal to her. Her father was a commonly known potion maker, out of a commonly known potion makers family, the Brewers. She liked potions, it was one of her favorite classes, but she just wasn't too good at it. They had to make the Herbicide Potion. Which she knew was not going to end well, for one she had no idea what the potion was, and she had no idea how to actually do it.

She looked around at everyone who had already been started making their potion. She saw that the Hufflepuffs were all not doing too bad at it, just as all the Ravenclaws. Ravenclaws is smart, and Hufflepuff is amazing at plants. "Ravenclaw...Smarts, for so far the Sorting hat sorting me in the right house." She whispered to herself. She was people making pars, starting to work together. She hadn't really met a Hufflepuff yet, so she had no idea who to partner with since all the Ravenclaw were already sorted into groups.

As she looked around, there were only a few people who were not sorted into groups yet. And so she decided to take her best shot on taking someone before everyone was sorted. As she looked around, there was one Hufflepuff that got to her attention pretty soon. The boy had brown hair, as goes the same for his eyes, and had freckles on his face. He looked quite nice, someone she thought she would really enjoy working on a potion with, and so thought so done. She took a deep breath and headed over to the Hufflepuff boy. ¨

She headed to the boy and stood next to him, she smiled and coughed silently, but loud enough for him to hear it, and only once is so it wouldn't come over to rude. As the boy turned around, she looked into his Honey brown eyes. She felt stupid for not saying anything, it was not like she was afraid, she had talked to people before. But she had always been a bit shy, people had thought she was weird, and she didn't want her maybe potion partner to think she was weird, and so she tried to gather herself together. "Uhm... Hi! I'm Emily, I was wondering if you wanted to partner up, for this potion? I'm not really good at potions and, I could really use some help if you'd like to of course?" She said, giving him a small smile.

It was foolish of Enrico to presume that after very few (if any) steps, bubbling his brewing cauldron would start showing signs of near completion. He was indeed overly ambitious at times, but even now he began to realize that it was going to take a whole lot more than just his desires to accomplish the task at hand - at his utmost despise. The numerous times he let out angry frowns and the way his hand ran through his clumsy hair were enough to show how frustrated he was getting. It was annoying mostly because he really was eager and willing to try his best at all the subjects at Hogwarts, regardless of how much he disliked (muggle) school.

His hope, usually glowing and fruitful, was now dimming with every misstep he took. It was almost time for him to let out a scream so loud he'd go deaf himself. But then a glimmer of light started to peak when a girl - whose face was familiar yet not - approached him with all the politeness in the world. Something that Enrico only wished to grasp the idea of. The funniest part was that she came asking him for help, when the Hufflepuff had been trying his absolute best to show all the signs of struggle in the world. At this point, he was willing to admit that maybe he was the worst first-year ever to step into the Potions classroom.

"You're coming to me? For help? To help you?!" Enrico exclaimed, mostly confused, his voice raised high almost sounding as if he was mad. He wasn't, it was just a matter of how taken by surprise he was. His eyes had remained wide open, staring blankly at the girl like she was a new pair of mismatched socks he had been after for years.
"You've definitely come to the right place!" Lied Enrico, his usual grin showing eagerly on his face, "Herbicide Potion is it, aye? Don't tell anyone, I overheard those two over there mention snake fangs and so I've thrown them into the mix." The worst part was that he spoke proudly - as if he knew what he was doing.

Suddenly, he was taken aback by a flash of thought; whereas usually, Enrico does not concern himself with any dangerous outcomes of the trouble he ends up finding himself in, he did not refrain to think about how he could blow up the entire classroom-- no, school, if he proceeded to lie about what he's managed to mix into his cauldron. He let out a moan full of fear and anxiety, and his face frowned upside down almost as if he was going to break down crying. Enrico couldn't contain his emotions even if he had a wand pointing at his head.

"Listen! I'm kidding, I've made a mess, and I don't know what I'm doing. Can I help you? No! But can you help me? Yes!" He grabbed the girl from her wrist like she was a toddler needing assistance to walk, and brought her to his side. His finger pointed at the simple recipe which he could not understand, or read properly. It was not the hardest potion in existence, he was certain together they could do it... mostly her but sure.
"Do you know which ingredients are which?" He asked, panicking.

Emily was happy that the boy didn't react weirdly, he seemed rather nervous but confident at the same time. A shocked look came onto her face when he told her that he was adding snake fangs onto the potion. Was that even an ingredient? She looked around while opening her potion book. She scrolled through the pages, she never realized she had no clue what to actually brew. When eventually she found the right page, she cleaned the Calderon and started the potion all over again. Adding stuff step, by step.

After a long amount of time, the potion finally had seemed to be finished. She had no idea if it was actually brewed correctly but it was worth taking the shot. She looked over at Enrico and then realized she had done the potion completely without him, and there was her guilt. She was never good at working with other people, not because of the fact that she was so selfish to do it alone, but because she was too shy to communicate and just stopped after an amount of time. She had given him no chance to do his input in the potion. "I'm so so so sorry!" She said, trying to make herself and maybe him feel better. "It was never my intention to do this all alone, I just, got dragged into it I think. It should be brewed correctly tho so you'll still get the grades you'd deserve, I just. Gosh, I am so so sorry!! I feel so terrible. If you prefer to make one yourself and never work with me ever again then i totally understand. I must have looked awful." She said. She kept ranting over, mostly to herself, but just out loud. She felt so ashamed of what she had done, no wonder she never got any friends. Not at Hogwarts at least. This wasn't a way to act, and as sure as hell not from her, it wasn't her usual acting. But i guess making friends is still not one of her best trades.

Emily was a guardian angel personified. Not just any angel, but Enrico's very own. She was a blessing, and a disguise was not needed. Yes, he usually enjoyed being independent and doing everything for himself, but this was a completely different story. He had no idea what was going on, and absolutely zero clue about what and how the potion had to be done. But Emily seemed like she knew what she was doing, and even if she didn't, she had become his best hope. So regardless, it was either letting her do what she was good at or fail. And the choice became easier by the second, as he observed every action she had performed.

Lionfish spines? Crushed. Dried, standard herbs? Crushed. Enrico's brain? Crushed. The poor boy couldn't even keep up. Every time the girl added a new ingredient, he forgot the one before it. The cycle was endless and by the time the potion was finished, which took almost an hour, as it needed a lot of time to rest, Enrico had forgotten the entire process. However, that didn't really matter much when the mixture was perfectly still in oozy colours of green, which almost looked like vomit.

The worst part was that Enrico, essentially, didn't contribute much to the whole process. All he did was talk... and talk... and complain... and talk. He just didn't shut up. Not that any of it came to his realization. If he did, he would have stopped. In the span of an hour, he had brought up far too many things irrelevant to what the duo was doing. He might have mentioned his favourite socks combination a couple of times. It was always an interesting topic, especially with the girls, they always seemed to like hearing about his socks. Sent them in complete awe and all.

So it very much caught Enrico off guard when suddenly, Emily was apologizing, and for what? As serious as she sounded, Rico couldn't help but actually laugh it off. His lips curved into a wide, cheeky grin, his eyes all dizzy and confused - almost shut close as he tilted his head to the side.
"W-what are you sorry for?!" He cackled, "for helping me complete the entirety of this stupid potion? I wish everyone was as helpful as you!" He shouted that one last bit as a way to pass a sniggering comment at his fellow classmates who always refused to even sit next to him, specifically during Potions. One couldn't really blame them.

"Listen," he approached her with excitement, his feet shuffling and jumping, "had it not been for you, I wouldn't even have done it!" He hated to admit it, but he had already confessed how horrible he was at the subject, so there was no need to hide his shame any longer.
"If anything I should be the one apologizing, for doing absolutely nothing. But then again, trust me, you wouldn't want my help in brewing a potion. But please, do let me know if I can return the favour." Not that he had much to contribute... but hey, it seemed like words had their way.

Emily smiled. She was happy he wasn't mad about doing the potion alone, he was actually happy she did it. She was relieved that she had finally finished the potion. She never really practiced potions, but apparently, the power of creating potions was in her blood. Her dad had been born in a well-known potion brewing family, therefor her last name was Brewer. The brewing of potions had been in their genes for centuries.

"We should give in the potion before we get a T for not delivering it on time" She heads over to the professor and hands them the potion when she gets back she starts cleaning up the table. It was lovely to work with you, Enrico! I actually had some fun, and i loved hearing about your favorite socks! I love socks! No one ever mentioned socks, sad i think, i have some fancy ones myself, mostly Ravenclaw once, but i got some Hufflepuff's from my brother for Chanukah last year! As a joke since i am not a Hufflepuff, but at least yea i got them haha, never worn them before so if you want them, you can have them!"She said and smiled.

She looked around, seeing people leave the classroom, moving on to the next class or their next break. She wondered which classes she had next. She usually had her classes together with Hufflepuff, but it sure happened that she had classes with Slytherin or Gryffindor as well. Just happened less. Therefore she didn't really have any Gryffindor or Slytherin friends, just Hufflepuff's or Ravenclaw.

She turned back around looking at Enrico. "What are you doing for Christmas?" She asked him."I'm going to a friend, my family doesn't celebrate Christmas, so I can go wherever I want to, I don't know if you know Juniper? She invited me together with some other friends!" She said and smiled
