Everything was happening ever so quickly in front of Vale's eyes. Avery shouting from the area to her, to a heap of smoke suddenly covered the entire area, yet the battle continued onwards. She wasn't even quite sure where the smoke even came from.

But it was all amusing, nevertheless. At least for her, and apparently Avery too. She was so excited she almost didn't catch a Hui Ming from earlier giving her a short wave. Vale paused, taking a moment to scan him over even after the wave. His voice was hard to hear she couldn't understand much of what he was saying, but she took note he was speaking to someone noticeably older than him. She made a small gesture of a wave back, knowing Hui Ming wasn't paying attention to her now anyway. Vale turned back to spectate what was happening right in front of her.

From barely what she can see, making her so unsure about what was going on, were her study peers ganging up on a single person? If it wasn't for Della's shoutout that confirmed what Vale couldn't see on her own, she could only guess who was against who. It made Vale smile at the sadistic ploy that she didn't know her study peers had in them. From Avery's delight to the current situation, even mocking someone named Della. Is that their target? "Ashes, it looks like my new study peers a lot more like me than I anticipated. I can't wait to see what the future will bring for all of us then. But for now," She patted her doll's head, moving one hand through its hair locks with a comforting tone.

", anarchy." Vale made a short giggle, awaiting for the smoke to finally settle and that she can now witness the true nature of her fellow peers.

It was still impossible to see what was going on, but Matt wasn't overly bothered by that. Had he hit? Had he missed? It didn't really matter since he figured the smokescreen would be clearing up soon anyway. Judging from Della's little speech and Avery's words (pretty cool that his dormmate could see through all this, he'd have to ask how later), the Gryffindor at the very least had been hit with a Dancing Feet spell. She'd probably be out soon enough, it was just a matter of who she'd be taking with her. Hey, maybe some spell would come flying out of the billowing white towards him.

One could only hope.

He wasn't keen on winning this thing, not when it would ruin his rep, so whatever happened next to him he'd use more as learning than as a first placer's strategy. Could he win? Unlikely - but possible, since he had a pretty nice repertoire of spells he could start breaking out to shake things up. But if he just continued on with Flipendo, people would probably think that was all he knew and it would be an all around benefit. Striking up a low whistled tune to give away his position, he shifted his wand slightly and raised the game's stakes.

As the fog starts to clear, it becomes easier to see the action in the center.

The sight for onlookers was a strange one. Della Barfield, dancing to a rather high-energy hip-hop beat, managed to shift out of the way of Maggie’s incoming spell. Maggie's woes were not over, though: Avery, sensing cracks in the emerald alliance, seemed to break off first, casting a jinx at the sporty snake, causing her to break into a slow, graceful twirl on her tip-toes followed by a rather impressive ballet routine. It appeared that quite a few of the first years could dance when given the appropriate support.

Elsewhere, Liana Kerr had anticipated a spell coming her way and was preparing to take evasive actions. When the spell finally came though, it was smack dab in the middle of a dance move where the white-haired lion had gone down to the floor, before jumping back to her feet. The odd angle proved a little too much for the gifted redhead to dodge, and she broke out tap dancing, though a lot more gracefully now than before.

Finally, there was Matthew Gray, who was a bit removed from the chaos. Perhaps it was the excitement of the event, or perhaps it was the dragon heartstring in his wand that craved the flamboyant and eye-catching spells. But when the boy moved his wand in a well-practised motion for the knockback jinx, the wand did not send a jinx hurtling towards his intended target. Instead, the spell rebounds badly, hitting his square in the middle.

Ballet. Of all the dances, of all the downright evils in life, ballet was the greatest. Utterly ridiculous and just completely stupid. Ballet did nothing for anyone, nobody benefitted from it, and it was all around just the most inferior form of dance, wasn't it? And Avery Chen, one of the very people Maggie had ventured not to target for fear of harboring a sort of rivalry, had targeted her! This betrayal would not be soon forgotten.

However, the little stunt pulled by one Avery Chen did open up a wealth of opportunity, didn't it? Since he had targeted Maggie, that left it open for Maggie to do the exact same to Avery. No high ground could be taken between either of them because that would simply be silly and hypocritical.

"Seriously, Avery?" Maggie cried, doing a rather impressive twirl up on her toes. En pointe, or something, if she remembered correctly. "You're gonna pay for this, I swear. Gonna regret it, you know? I'll make you regret it!" This was tough talk for someone who prior hadn't cared much about who won, but now? Now Maggie was seeing blood. Avery would regret his targeted attack on Maggie Hawkins, he would, and she would prove once again that she was totally superior in every way. Whether it be in dueling, Quidditch, or anything else. "You just wait till I beat you here like I did in Quidditch!"

It was easily predictable what Della would do once she regained her ability to cast. Which meant there was only one logical course of action for Liana - evading the attack. Or trying to, at least. She had anticipated the spell coming straight at her and stepped sideways; she had not foreseen the spell coming diagonally from below, and it's doubtful that even the Gryffindor girl intended to attack at such an bizarre angle. Thus, the spell hit once again, forcing Liana's feet into the irritating tap dance that she started the whole six-way combat with. And once again, it caused much more pain than one would think a mere Dancing Feet spell could do. Probably because it was the fourth one to hit her.

The redhead grit her teeth, trying to ignore the cramping in her legs as she evaluated the situation again. Matt had utterly failed at casting a spell, hurting himself in the process. Was this done on purpose, to convince anyone watching that his other attacks were truly beginner's luck? That seemed entirely possible.

Maggie and Avery were having a feud of their own, which pained Liana in a whole different way - she had hope the tentative alliance would survive until no outsiders were left. Well, she supposed this was bound to happen sooner or later, and Avery was evidently much more sly than he appeared, turning on his housemate when least expected. That warranted some respect. Even if he chose to mock Liana's failure to dodge a foreseen spell coming her way. The redhead chose to ignore his comment.

Instead, she glanced down at her wayward feet, wondering if they would obey her if she really tried to make them, and prepared to act.

From the length of the duel of the forced dancing abound, weariness was settling in on the duellists. Matthew did not cast again after the rebound of his last casting. Was he in shock, or contemplating his next move? In either case, no spells were forthcoming from him. In the same vein, Maggie's attempt at Avery backfired as well, likely from attempting the wand movement too quickly.

Avery, too seemed to be tiring. He managed to cast a sneezing hex which flew wide from all possible targets. Was that supposed to target Matthew, Della, or Liana? Ming could not be certain.

And finally came Liana Kerr, with a vengeance. When the dancing of her feet finally came to a close, the Slytherin prodigy shrugged off the errant Sneezing Spell sent in her general direction and shot a Knockback Jinx at Della Barfield, who was still dancing up a storm. In a feat of uncanny accuracy that Ming was uncertain he could reproduce, the Gryffindor was actually clipped by the spell. It was a stark reminder that she had was a true prodigy, long used to these duels that the others were just discovering.

"Halt," Ming called out imperiously. In a deliberate pace, the bespectacled first year would get onto the stage, and walk over to the Gryffindor, before levitating her. Seconds ticked by as he unhurriedly retrieved the fallen little lion, and returned to his place at the sidelines, before turning back on the duellists.

Only four left now. The prodigy, the dark horse, the athlete and....Avery. A small moment of hesitation, and a quick sideglance at @Eevelynn Decipio.

No spells flew Liana's way. No smoke hindered her vision. Her legs, albeit still tapping away irksomely, were something she almost grew accustomed to. There was still only one target for her, and that target certainly realized the fact. The pale lioness dodged; the redhead snake foresaw it and adjusted her aim accordingly, her frustration at having failed so many times suddenly sharpening her awareness and focus. The Knockback Jinx hit home, causing a burst of elation in Liana's chest. And Della fell! Did that mean the attack was so potent she got knocked down, much like due to one of Matt's previous Flipendos? The girl's eyes widened as she realized that the Gryffindor would not be rising back up, at least not as an opponent in this battle. She was knocked out! This was the first such occurrence for Liana - rendering someone unconscious. It felt slightly uncanny, and very much empowering. She exhaled and lowered her wand, observing the field while Ming was removing the fainted blonde from the duel.

Maggie's spell had clearly backfired, for she looked more damaged than before, and the redhead was sure she'd heard Avery casting Steleus at someone. Nobody was sneezing, however, so it likely missed the target. Matt had not uttered any incantation, which made Liana frown suspiciously. His spell had just backfired, why was he still taking measures to make people believe he was an inept duellist by being slow with his casting? Was he perhaps unwilling to end up being one of the last ones removed from the game? She glanced sideways at the other two snakes, who seemed to be engaged in their own private duel. Interjecting there would be rather impolite, and could be taken as an offence by either one or both of her housemates. No, she'd leave it to Avery and Maggie to settle their dispute. Unless one of them chose to involve her by casting at her, that is. The question now was, should she remain as a spectator, ready to evade an incoming offence if one was sent her way? Or should she aid Matt in his quest to perform as poorly as possible? Decisions, decisions.
